March 27th is Earth Hour, a pointless exercise in which lights are turned out for ONE hour and then turned back on and not used for ten. Really smart. It makes me wonder why Earth Day wasn't chosen. Is energy going to be wasted on that day? Is Earth Hour a carbon offset day?
Instead of "celebrating" Earth Day, celebrate my mum's birthday on the 22nd of April (Mother Earth Day?). She's not a lunatic who kills people.

Personally, I do not observe Earth Hour. Rather, I observe Human Achievement Hour, during which time I:

- turn on all lights in the house
- set the stove to self-clean mode
- do the laundry ... with hot water
- order a pizza, for delivery
- any other activity which purposefully uses up energy

The surviving child needs to lawyer up, pronto! Seems to me there is sufficient evidence for her to sue various and sundry AGW promoters for assault, deprival of parental affection, and Lord knows what else.

Normally this would be a breach of the Criminal Code, I would think. However, would this matter ever be brought before the authorities, I'm quite certain he'd be let off on account of exercising his/her religious freedoms. He would then proceed -- successfully -- to bring to bear an HRC complaint against the owners of the now-vandalized APUs.

Earth Hour has to be one of the biggest laughs at someone else's expense I can think of. There probably is someone out there counting how many people would be gullible enough to turn off their lights. The bigger laugh is how every energy-guzzling device is then turned on and left on while silly people blog about how they "saved the earth" for an hour. Way to defeat an already self-defeating purpose. It's just insanity.

Re: Ira Einhorn - I recall some years ago reading about the founder of Earth Day, and of the horrific murder of his girlfriend. I also recall reading that the matriarch of Montreal's (and Seagrams) aided and abetted Einhorn when he was in hiding in France. I can find nothing of the connection today. Was it not true, or has the family done a wonderful job of erasing it from our memories? She was never charged (to my knowledge) apparently the courts were convinced that she was an old addled lady who thought Ira was being framed by the (FBI/CIA?) because he was either an animal lover or a Jew.
