I don't understand, Kate. Does it represent dogs' struggle against Western imperialism or their rôle as slave in the human-dog dynamic?

I guess master has gone off to war in Afghanistan. Did he forget that one boot? Puzzling.

A lot of the "professional" artists don't grasp the self-sufficient bit, that's for sure. One fellow I correspond with is constantly on my back to apply for an emerging artist grant...

"But you'd have more time for your photography if you applied for grants!"

"First, I'd spend my time filling out applications rather than creating images, and second, it would no longer be 'my' photography -- it would belong to whoever was paying the bills."

It's not art if it's not free of liens and encumberances.

A great picture. The idea of supporting popular art, rather than the dreck the Canada Council likes, is wonderful.

Nice werk Kate.

This one always gives me a chuckle. No wonder he's not comin home. You won't get too far in a war zone without your darn boots. Hehe.

As as self-sufficient artist, does this mean that all the proceeds go to you? :-)

Kidding aside, it's a wonderful image. I hope the sales work out well.

"self-sufficient arts"?
So I guess this means you won't be expanding your portfolio to include 300m long flying bananas made of paper & bamboo and you'll just make art people are willing pay for?

He's wearing desert boots. These are old combat boots, probably militia, from earlier days.
Cheers, Eric

Sooo, YOU get all the money, Kate?

Otherwise it would be kinda ironic. heh.

Nice painting.

PITA is not going to be happy, stepping on a dog to get a picture have they no shame? Just kidding the picture is beautiful.

Glad to see you do a little self promotion Kate. I've often wondered about the lack of advertising on your site. I like that but promoting what you do exceptionaly well isn't the same thing. Good on ya.

It's a wonderful piece of work. I'd never put my paintbrush down if I had Kate's talent.

Starts waiting for a shipping tube.

Thanks for giving us access to your work Kate!

A lonely Dog missing its Master. With only his Masters scent to console him while gone.
Nicely done!

AMAZING werk, Kate!

Did we all notice the shine detail on the boot, and the out of focus carpet further back. I can't seem to do that with my G6 Powershot.

I'd hire you to do my portrait but, er, your painting is too truthful!

George Carlin described this well.
For a dog, 5 minutes---5 hours it's all FORE-EVER.
"Gee I'm glad you are back---you've been gone forever........"
Dogs waiting for the school bus.....

Kate, I wish you'd apply to the Canada Council on the Arts for a hefty grant. It would be interesting to see if they'd give a real artist some money.

Nice work.

Actually, I think you might find that most of the world's great artists (and hence their art) were indebted, indentured or in dire straits most of their life.

I love the painting Kate. Thank you.

Beautiful rendering, Kate! Not overdone.
You are very good.

That's beautiful Kate, certainly no art critic here, but maybe there is something to the part about 'I know what I like when I see it'.

When you can appreciate the talent, skill and ability to bring this beautiful work of art to life and know the dedication it takes to do so, it is both humbling and gratifying to see. Thanks for showing.

And for those of you who like me haven't visited Kate's art page for awhile (or before for that matter), it's the first link under 'About Kate', entitled "homepage".

Holy Carp ,Kate
Awesome piece. Fantastic draftsmanship also.

I clicked on the link. Wow Kate you are exceptionally talented. although, i can barely draw stick people, I greatly admire art and how it powerfully reminds us of the simple beauty around us. The world needs to be reminded of the beauty around us. I think it great that you have chosen to share your gift in a way that benefits others by donating the proceeds from your work.

Great artwork! The boot looks like one of my old service boots waiting in the closet in case they have to call up an old guy.

The face shows the love for its two-legged pal.

Kate - What about the original work ... are you selling that?

These are really fine.

"I think it great that you have chosen to share your gift in a way that benefits others by donating the proceeds from your work."

LOL....

Absolutelly sickening.
I worry about the worry in the dog's eyes. But then I am not a dog trainer.
I wasn't a guard at Auschwitz either.
I am not familiar with your work. Perhaps you have more tender scenes somewhere in your work.
You know Kate how much more terror would it be to produce neurotic dogs with cigars in their mouths and cards in their paws.

Are they "Werk" boots?

Okay Okay. Youv'e convinced me. It is faboulous.
Could mine have a bare feminine foot with painted toenails and a gold ankle chain. Now that would make any dog lover go woof!

I'm interested in the Photoshop filter you applied to give that "painting look" to the photo.

There appear to be a couple of art heathens in the crowd tonight.

You are so talented, Kate!!!

Does "self sufficient" mean that you have permission and/or pay royalties to Warner Brothers everytime you use one of their cartoon characters in your art werk?

"I think it great that you have chosen to share your gift in a way that benefits others by donating the proceeds from your work."

LOL....

I caught the word "proceeds" and wrongly assumed you were doing some kind of charity thing. Having answered a phone call from a charity, shortly b4 I posted, that was asking for a donation probably had something to do with my hasty interpretation and subsequent blonde moment. No good deed goes unpunished as they say.

This would also be a good time to remind regulars and others (that includes the trolls too...;) that there is a "tip jar" on the front screen of SDA. Considering the entertainment value alone of SDA its worth the price of a case of beer to play in this sandbox.

No, the original isn't for sale, (but I do take some commissions).

My dog always stayed away from my work boots... but then so did the rest of the family ;-)

Kate,

An awesome work of art, and one which most effectively showcases your talent and your support for the valiant men and women of the armed forces. Thanks!!!!

What a wonderful print! As a Scottie owner, I can tell you that I've seen this look before .
