"Shake, Rattle and Roll.." Good stuff Vit. Or is that a Toyota ad?
At DBKP new "Who's Your Daddy?" t-shirts. (George or Karl)
Don't know if this is new or not, but I found this parody on hope and change amusing. (Vit - it does not mention HC, so I think I should be ok)

The Houle letter to Ann Coulter just hit Drudge.

rcmp officers swarmed & beaten to a pulp with brass knuckles & almost relieved
of their firearms by some sort of mob in the cadotte lake/peace river area... national
media being careful not to offer up much detail.
anybody else find that a little curious? they don't want to hurt the bustling tourist
trade? what exactly is the deal here?

neo, the gang-up is being covered. Sounds like the two officers (one a female) are lucky to be alive. 15-20 'people' in that house!

Phantom, thanks. Too bad I commented on the NP instead of Toronto Sun. Most of the NP comments have been pulled.
Liberals have been challenging tax-payers paying for 10%er mail outs -- so here's a question -- if it is NOT o.k. for taxpayers to pay for partisan mailouts, why is it o.k. for taxpayers to give parties subsidies based on voter turn-out? Either way it is subsidizing party messaging. I personally don't object to the mailouts, but I think there is a lapse in logic here on the part of the Libs -- and pushing for this is likely to come back to haunt them.

Re Peace River attack. Nothing a Remington 12 guage loaded with #2 shot could not have fixed! Sad story indeed!
Kind of cool Vit., I was old enough to dance to it but not old enough to remember it.
Toronto Sun article about Anne Coulter's visit to London, Ontario. Of course those of the left quoted in the article think free speech is only for those espousing left-wing views.

Apparently the people who attacked the RCMP officers in the Peace River country have been arrested and charged.
Toronto Star, Sunday, March 21, and National Post, Monday, March 22.
The Texas Board of Education is changing the state's public school curriculum. The board is dominated by conservatives, and the old liberal curriculum will disappear.
"I've never seen this extent of revisionist history", says Megan Boler, a US-born educator now at OISE.
Or perhaps it was the curriculum being expunged that was "revisionist"?
"This is very disturbing", says Roland Coloma, a professor of anti-racist and feminist studies, also at OISE, "The narration of a nation's history is always contested, but this is very much an historical skewing of facts and events, and that's really unfortunate."
"Professor of anti-racist and feminist studies"? Anything not crazy extreme left-wing propaganda replete with skewing of facts and events is usually what's "disturbing" to people like this.
The National Post reports that the term "American imperialism" will be replaced by "American expansionism". This makes sense because only Marxists use the term "imperialism" (the schools should teach the kids to understand this when they hear it).
But another change is to have "capitalism" replaced with "free-enterprise system" because "capitalism does have a negative connotation", according to one conservative board member.
Then it's supposed to be your job to explain to students why it's not negative. Why so cowardly?
Another change will see hip-hop and other musical forms popular in the black community replaced by country and western as a "significant cultural movement". Personally I could live without either.
Finally Thomas Jefferson, who is unpopular with conservatives because he championed the division between religion and politics, is to be downplayed.
However, the entire left-wing Marxist body of thought is akin to a religion. It certainly has no basis in reality. And parents who have kids in public schools would be wise to have that false ideology kept out.
But the moral of the story is that, like Jefferson's separation of church and state, so should there be a separation of school and state, and for the same reasons.
Meanwhile, Monday's Globe and Mail reports that a German family is claiming political asylum in Canada because Germany does not allow home-schooling. I hope they win; people have the absolute right to home-school their kids. It's a shame Germany is violating their rights.
I prefer the blues Vit, yet never checked YouTube for Big Joe T for some reason.
Thanks for the jolt, 'cause his Low Down Dog is great and keyboards are a real treat too.

"Hong Kong disappears in cloud of smog
Hong Kong’s gleaming glass and steel skyscrapers and its verdant Peak disappeared into a cloud of smog and dust as a sandstorm blowing from northern China brought record levels of pollution to the territory.
One side of Hong Kong harbour was barely visible from the other as the Government was criticised for failing to warn residents that the cloud of noxious air was bearing down on the city.
Residents awoke on Monday to a pall of choking murk, borne by easterly winds along the coast, that caused already high pollution readings to jump six-fold to a record high."
"China's expanding deserts now cover one-third of the country because of overgrazing, deforestation, urban sprawl and drought. The shifting sands have led to a sharp increase in sandstorms – the grit from which can travel as far as the western United States."

Ok, so with this CRTC ruling, I may now have to pay for channels I would not watch if you put a gun to my head?
Local TV? Who cares?
http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/9015696.html
Pellet guns are next.
_http://thechronicleherald.ca/Metro/9015698.html
No shots fired. Nobody hurt. Yet police seize and destroy the pellet gun. Because a women thought it was a hand gun.
Here we are the "non-existent" but quite persistent slippery slope.
Atlantic Jim (9:09), I too have a hard time understanding the merits of the "local" broadcasters' complaints in this dispute. Suppose I owned a television station: if someone (say, a cable company) broadcast my programming to a wider audience without charging me a dime for it, I would get more viewers, and therefore more ad revenue. For local broadcasters to complain about that is like a manufacturer asking truckers to pay for the right to transport the product to market.
Furthermore, the whole "local" meme is pure b.s., IMO. With the singular exception of the one-hour suppertime local news broadcast (and the redundant, condensed half-hour late broadcast of same) the putatively "local" programming of my local CTV affiliate consists entirely of recycled American crap with a bit of that Ben Mulroney-type Canadian-style fawning over Hollywood stars thrown in to the mix.
The whole "local" angle is just a campaigning ploy, more or less. There's no local talk shows - zero, none - and no locally-produced coverage of local sporting events, and no dedicated local coverage of city hall, or of provincial politics, etc. The only "local" thing is news, a fair portion of which originates in the GTA - Robert Fife, etc.
Sorry, no link, but I do have a Reader Tip: always look in both directions before you cross the street.
EBD...There is another side to this.
Lets say I own a tv station, I charge resonable rates to advertisers, the cable company carries my station, I'm happy, my sponsors are happy and thankfull that my station is reaching thousands more than if I was just broadcasting over the air.
But..and its a "BIG" but..
The cable company "deletes" my advertisers commercials and inserts their own, they do it on "EVERY" channel they carry.
Not only do they "NOT" pay to carry my station but they are stealing my signal and making profit with it, they are in direct competition with me, my advertisers are saying "why not just go to rogers and pay them for advertising space".
Have the cable companys "STOP" this practice of stealing commercial airtime or make them pay for the signal...!
Simple eh!
Katie Drummond, Inventors Design Less-Lethal ‘Taser Me Elmo’ Rifle
The Lund Variable Velocity Weapons System (LVVWS) is an all-in-one weapon: lethal when used at high velocity, or less-lethal at low-velocity. The gun uses pump action, shoots two rounds a second and weighs a little over six pounds. It also substitutes a hydrogen-powered combustion chamber for a standard cartridge, and doesn’t produce any smoke or powder residue.
And, given that less-lethal rounds can be notoriously dangerous when fired at close range, the LVVWS also uses a rangefinder-based safety system to prevent high-velocity shooting at close-range targets...
> Pellet guns are next.
I just want to see those cops' faces, when they'd sh1t their pants, seeing how my two blast clays and punch paper at the range.
Two different worlds. How can one live in theirs?
William, my experience with commercials and local TV is the exact opposite.
During simultaneous broadcast of a program on CTV and CBS for example, the US station's commercials are ripped out and the commercial for the local business is sub'd in. And it is not just local broadcast either. I have seen many the TSN supplied commercial while watching a NASCAR race while tuned into Fox or ABC.
It's why Canadians have to wait for YouTube to see SuperBowl commercials for example.
Don't forget to turn on all your lights tonight:

The lights will be switched off at landmarks in more than 250 Canadian cities Saturday to mark Earth Hour.
People the world over are asked to turn off the lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time to show global support for action on climate change.

"American Civil Liberties Union, Southern Poverty Law Center, Michelle, Barry, Bill
Lawfare, Voluntary Surrender, and Right-wing “Extremists”"
"Both Barack and Michelle Obama are lawyers barred from practicing law. This is a topic I’ll return to in a moment, but first I want to say a few words about the global “lawfare” that is, and has been, waged against freedom.
Most folks are aware of the communist roots of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and its “country cousin” the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center), and quite a few understand that many liberal lawyers become Progressive, or “activist,” judges. (Here and here.)
Many of us, however, have yet to grasp the extent, intensity, and duration, of the “lawfare ” that has been, and is being, waged against freedom around the world—especially in the Western cultures. We need to take note.
Let me hasten to say that there are a great number of conservative, patriotic lawyers and judges, who have waged a largely unheralded war against the unremitting pressure brought to bear by an army of Progressive lawyers. God bless them for their efforts to counter the myriad attempts to alter the Constitution (e.g. via con-con—a Constitution Convention, and the thousand other ways that the Progressives attempt to co-opt our legal system, and pervert the Constitution). There are also, of course, numerous decent lawyers working in other fields as well. (Here)
In no way am I making a “first we kill the lawyers” blanket condemnation. But there are, as everyone knows, a number of greedy, amoral lawyers, and a vast number of ideological practitioners of legal “lawfare.” (“Lawfare” being primarily, the practice of legally undermining the pillars of capitalism and freedom, and replacing them with a Nazi/Communist-style Progressive big-government agenda).
These are the lawyers who fought tort reform tooth and nail, and who have done their best to destroy our Constitution (e.g. replacing it with a “living” Constitution).
There are way too many of these traitorous lawyers (Harvard churns them out like a doll factory). Both Bill and Hillary Clinton are Harvard trained lawyers, as are both Barack and Michelle Obama. Which brings me back to my original statement."

"France Abandons Plan for Carbon Tax
PARIS — After months of political rancor and legal obstacles, the French government on Tuesday shelved its plan to introduce a tax on carbon emissions that had been a cornerstone of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s enviromental policy.
Ministers and members of the governing UMP party said the tax would put French companies at a disadvantage to their European neighbors, most of whom do not pay anything similar.
But analysts said the drubbing handed to the center-right government on Sunday in regional elections brought the U-turn from Mr. Sarkozy.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Prime Minister François Fillon said the country’s environmental policy needed to be “better coordinated with the European Union,” particularly so that French companies do not lose ground against their German counterparts.
“It’s a big climb-down linked to the election — it’s political,” said Nicolas Bouzou, director of Asterès, a financial consultancy in Paris. “There was a lack of preparation and a lot of time and energy wasted by the government.”
He said that by arguing that the measure needs to be supported by France’s European partners, the government is effectively burying the tax."

Stinking feeble windmill farms: H/T Don Quixote.
YouPay & Pay & Pay and ...
"Although wind power is expensive, the industry has boomed because of the “renewable obligation” subsidy system, under which consumers pay roughly double the normal price for energy from wind."
...-
"Feeble wind farms fail to hit full power
THE first detailed study of Britain’s onshore wind farms suggests some treasured landscapes may have been blighted for only small gains in green energy.
The analysis reveals that more than 20 wind farms produce less than a fifth of their potential maximum power output.
One site, at Blyth Harbour in Northumberland, is thought to be the worst in Britain, operating at just 7.9% of its maximum capacity. Another at Chelker reservoir in North Yorkshire operates at only 8.7% of capacity.
Both are relatively small and old, but larger and newer sites fared badly, too, according to analyses of data released by Ofgem, the energy regulator, for 2008."

"South Africa police fire buckshot at township rioters
PHOMOLONG, South Africa (Reuters) – South African police fired buckshot on Tuesday to disperse township rioters who threw stones and looted shops to protest over poor housing and lack of rail services.
Hundreds of people in the Phomolong township near the South African capital Pretoria blocked roads with rocks and burning tires, in the latest attempt to persuade the government to supply much-needed infrastructure.
Scores of similar protests have taken place across the country in the past two months in scenes reminiscent of the apartheid-era.
"People have been trying to use formal ways with government, but been given a cold shoulder, so protests are just the best thing they can respond to," a protester told Reuters, before being chased away by a blast of buckshot.
Police Captain Johas Mahesu said the situation in Phomolong was under control, but his force would monitor the area.
"It's hard to tell what will happen next because it's on and off, but we have a strong contingency," he said."

From Drudge
In her speech Mrs Clinton said that US objections to the planned expansion of a settlement in East Jerusalem were not about “wounded pride”.

BS! Talk about a half-truth. Sure it’s not about “wounded pride” it’s about the Democrats and their disdain for Israel. PERIOD!
Mamba
If this starts going down in a bad way, I might waiver from Agnostic POV. “Da proof is da proof” as they say. You might want to consider the same… I doubt ET will come along though; so, if I don’t “bring the chips” you know where I am:)
Triggered by the whole AGW mess and the disruption of the scientific process, I decided to do a bit of research into another area that's been bugging me lately. I've seen comments on this and other blogs that another area that has the same agenda-driven biases is nutrition and health. And, since I've long been skeptical about the adverse affects of salt on the human body (as opposed to things like lack of exercise, obesity, hypertension, etc.) I googled and came up with this report via wikipedia:
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/281/5379/898?ijkey=ATm56Jl8nBVYU
Reading through this, it's absolutely amazing how statistics, mathematics, and poorly-designed studies are being used to further peoples' personal biases.
This issue is having an impact on everything from health care policy (lots of funky stats in the obamacare debate), economics, nutrition (really? 8 glasses of water per day?), health care, even driving laws (anyone proved yet that mandatory winter tires reduced accidents or deaths in Quebec? "Where are the bodies?").
It would seem to me that we need to disassociate scientific research from political/personal goals, and find a way to fund the search for truth rather than what we're getting today...
That's enough ranting for now. 'Night.
