Sadly, what Rex Murphy writes as tongue-in-cheek sarcasm will be interpenetrated as an example of Canadian outrage. Mr Murphy's brethren at the CBC are already on the bandwagon with a couple of stories about how the Tories are in deep doodoo for propagating Parliament in the first place. That is according to the 6AM CBC news this morning. MSM is already pulling out the torture "scandal" stories from the pending bin and dusting them off. I just hope the aura of Sid the Coal Harbour kid will shield us from 24/7 MSM whining.
Print is dead, television is on it's death throes but radio is still very much alive.Control the internet you control the media.
Did breaking the record for Olympic Gold help ease the ache?
Congrats Canada! While I would rather my country win the game, I am at least happy for your PM, Mr. Harper.
Mr Harper should move to get John Furlong on the Tory team , mind you he better take French lessons.
A gentle reminder to the Liberals. Canadian voters do not ALL fit the profile of Womyn's Studies Professyms at McGill or Birkenstock clad social workers with a constant sense of faux outrage.
Keep pressing the issue and the majority of voters, those that enjoyed an epic hockey game last night, will hand over a majority government to Stephen Harper.
Face it Harper will never attain a majority government. He is polling around 24% in Quebec. The only place where he polls well is in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Typical. However, in Alberta, some Conservatives are less than enamored with his environment minister and his position on climate change.
Politics is the art of the possibility. If you're unable to see the possibilities, what do you really understand about politics? 0.

Canada is changing – subtly, profoundly, and without a public conversation. It's time we start to shape that change, before it's shaped for us."

If Parliament had not been prorogued, we would have to apologise to the World. It would have been embarrassing.
Bluetech; I agree with you 100%. What a nice break from not having to listen to Layton & Iggy.
Cutting sarcasm is deserved for the contrived uproar over the prorogue.
I mean, how can Jack Layton say anything about it after his bald-face camera grab at Gretzky's last night? You think he cares one bit about the prorogue? Heck no.
What a jem Rex is, only his quick wit and writing style could put this non-issue in context for the morons in the Ottawa press gallery. Thank you Rex for a logical look at this burning uncontrollable run for the hills, sound the alarm bells, brace yourselves, you'll be sent reeling, problem of prorogation, good god these people in the media are stupid, like asking Cheeryl Bernard if she would pose naked!
"David Suzuki, Elizabeth May, Justin Trudeau, Larry Campbell, Alex Himelfarb, Michael Geist, Carolyn Bennett, Tim Murphy, Eugene Lang, Niels Veldhuis, Patrick Johnston, Adam Chapnick, and Robert Huish"
Ah, the usual suspects.
Though I can at least understand Justin's frustration.
The Canada his father prepared for him is slipping away.
Inmate Black, from his cell at the Coleman Correctional Complex,* gets it right about the Libs:
"The lesson here is that the Liberals should not imagine that they can easily go back to taking 90% of the Quebec MPs and winning four out of five elections, nor that they can get away with the bunk about Conservatives being 'harsh' and frightening. The two-party system has returned after an absence of 85 years."

* You know, incarceration seems to be a tonic for Black. His columns are quite simply first-rate. Dare we petition the Americans to extend his stay?
JM easier next time. Just about lost breakfast. T Alberta and Saskatchewan are 'have' provinces. There is a reason for that.
What this prorogue has clarified for me is the actual depth of partisan pettiness and intellectual vacancy on the left and their lapdog media. Yes it was hypocritical to condemn Harper's Proroguing when the process was abused by Liberal PMs for decades - and yes the lib-left partisan media played on Canadian's ignorance in pimping the proroguing as any type of dent in democratic process - particularly in light of the troika coup the opposition attempted to seize power from a newly elected government.
But what really puked me out was the constant media pimping their one sided sad anti Harper partisan line even on the thinnest of premises.
The Canadian MSM is truly degenerate. This lap dog 4th estate and the neurotic partisanism it pimps are the REAL threat to Canadian democracy.
No,for sheer excitement, not even the overtime in the gold medal hockey game could compare with Layton or Ignatieff calling our soldiers war criminals.
Whomever tries to pull-down the spirits of Canadians will pay dearly for it at the polls.
I said before the Olympics that we are witnessing "political theatre" and that PMSH would get an "Olympic bump" at the polls. The first has already happened, and I predict it will expand to a lead similar to late 2009.
I still believe the ultimate status of Parliament is this; whom ever pulls the pug will pay at the polls. As I said in 2008, a strong minority for the Conservatives is better for the Conservatives politically considering they have a "defacto majority" and can govern as a majority with political cover(my favourite term of late). The Conservatives are free to move on commons sense conservative initiatives against a weak opposition; then, once they've gotten the majority(sometime in 2011) they can move to the hidden agenda.
We're Back Baby!
Local Liberal rag, the Ottawa Citizen, continued to push the proroguing angle all through the Olympics, as recently as Sunday (Janice Kennedy).
They printed a daily itinerary of the 7 local MPs, so the readers could see which ones were working hard and which were possibly watching the games? A childish gimick which quickly wore off.
Any lingering anger about prorogation will be countered by MI's prattling on about universal daycare and other big-ticket programs (without regard to the cost). The LPC seems incapable of generating ideas beyond new entitlements and more spending which inevitable leads to higher taxes now or for future generations.
Just in from CKNW: "Canada's Gross Domestic Product grew by 5% in the fourth quarter - the biggest gain in nine years."
Is the Harper formula beginning to pay off? Are the corporate head offices starting to run to a safe haven? Stay tuned.
Rex Murphy just gets better by the article. Great bit of humor. Or is it? I've notice a marked decrease in stress as a result of prorogation. Have you?
Yeah, Rex Murphy, now comedy writer along with best phone in moderator ever.
CBC news here 4pm, blathering about proroguing and contempt... Iggy , [not totally out of touch], says, " creating a crises not wise."
How true! Canadians will roast the Liberals if they try to make that phony fuss.
Iggy has wisely stayed off to one side of the MSM spotlight and Liberal polls have edged up ever so slightly.
Someone above commented PCs will have a vote problem in Quebec.
I don't think so. The Quebecer is a smart cat who knows and remembers huge Liberal scams and rip-offs.. Gomery?
Gunny99 @ 3:06 points out a 5% jump in GDP. CBC news says the Canadian economy is "roaring back!".
Quebecers know the PCs are good managers. As long as we respect their French-Canadian culture, a national asset, they are likely to vote for superior managers.
Personally, I can't stand, nor do I trust a Trudeauvian cultist like Rex Murphy. Having said that, it is somewhat refreshing for at least one whore in the MSM to kuffaw at the media manufactured "Prorogiegate". Will Murphy's article stop the MSM from propagating the fiegned outrage over "prorogiegate" and "detaineegate" coming from the Liberal/Separatist/NDP alliance war-room ? Not bloody likely.
