I stand with Israel and I have the Israeli flag flying from my flagpole as we speak.
Israel has had no better friend in the world than the USA. That appears to be changing with the current administration, however that is not unexpected.It heartens me to see that the Harper government has taken steps to rehabilitate our previous good relations with Israel.
It is all theater. The Saudis desperately want Israel to nudge Iran back into the Stone Age again for a while because Saudi and all of the Arab states who can discern camel dung from Shinola know non-Arab Iran will seek to run the table in the Middle East if they can just get that thing they are not working on. The United States cannot make the necessary adjustment themselves for reasons, too many to mention, but Iraq and Afghanistan would be on that list. If Israel normalizes Iran, the US has to have the plausible deniability to able to say with a (gulf) straight face, "we had nothing to do with it, in fact, we told the Israelis not to, but they don't do what we say...remember that settlement thing when Joe Biden was there? I am not saying that the Shiite will not hit the fan when this happens, but the excuse is now in place. And who is better at excuses than the Obama administration?

the Obama administration is moving forward with a number of middle east initiatives. The first is the acceptance of a nuclear armed Iran. They have established a so called missle shield which is no shield at all, but rather a PR stunt to rationalize their lack of committment to world peace and the defense of Israel.
Many of us are under the illusion that Israel can go it alone against iran which is sad because the Israeli's do not have the equipemnt for a sustained attack. I will come back to that later
because Israel does have one chance which is very risky. They also can't fight a war on three fronts at the same time.
The second part of President Obama's plan is to
help frame world opinion against israel. We see how their efforts are gaining momentum. Lots of rhetoric about Israel building houses and nothing on rockets from Hamas. Lot's of media attention for crap like anti Israel days and none for effective peaceful agreements such as those between Jordan and Israel reclaiming the negev
desert and the dead sea channel.
I would have to write a book to explain it all, but the only real weapon the Israeli's have is the bomb launched from a sub. The problem with that is that Iran has placed it's main reactor near a large population. Thus they would be the world enemy if they used that weapon.
I'm disgusted by the Obama moves to undermine Israel, but that is what he is doing.

I think the Israelis are showing the Yanks the same amount of concern and sensitivity on this issue that 'bama is showing them concerning nuclear Iran.
It is quite apparent that the Yanks - along with the UN - will take no concrete action on Iran, and will be standing in line to condemn Israel when it is forced to move unilateraly.
So, at this point, do you think Israel really gives a damn about making sure that 'bama doesn't lose face?
Hell, why doesn't The Great Man of Peace just fly over there and wave his little medal around? That should calm the waters...shouldn't it?
Hopefully the day will come when Israel realises that the American administration is not their friend and in fact is a big part of the problem. Only then will Israeli leaders cease caving in and pandering to the American administration. I cannot recall any American administration that treated Israel fairly, and special recognition must be assigned to the State Department. They do not represent the majority of the American people who have no difficulty understanding where the obstacle to any form of peace lies.
The American administration continues to refuse to recognise the capital of Israel. Even the Bush administration did the same, so that Jews residing in their one and only homeland are called settlers, and the new-comers, the Arabs, are called Palestinians, which was the brain child of the KGB.

Actually the concept of nationalism in the ME is not really understood by most of the inhabitants...with the exception of Isreal and Iran/Persia.
Most of those countries were invented by Europeans after WW1 when they carved up the Ottoman Empire. Isreal was a 1947 UN invention. The arabs rejected Isreal and a "arab" homeland and here we are.
From 1948-1967 Jordan had annexed the West Bank and Eygpt had annexed Gaza.
If Isreal had been defeated in 1948, the Six day war, or the Yom Kippur war....there would not only be no Isreal but no Palestinian State(democratic or otherwise) as well.

The Obama administration's calculated decision to escalate its open attacks against Israel over a routine decision by the Jerusalem Planning and Building Board to approve 1,600 housing units in Ramat Shlomo neighborhood presents Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu with an unenviable task. He has to either relinquish Israel's sovereignty over its capital by capitulating in the face of the unprecedented American assault, or he can tell Obama and Clinton and their cohorts to go to hell. It is depressing, and let's face it, a bit scary that the US, which has refused to raise a finger against Iran's nuclear program or any other rogue action by any other US enemy has decided to go after Israel in this fashion. It is depressing, but not surprising.
Anyone who paid the slightest attention to who Barack [short for Barakeh in Arabic] Obama is before he was elected knew full well that this man is an enemy of Israel. He was a member of an ardently anti-Semitic church for more than two decades. His friends ranged from virulently anti-Israel and anti-Jewish like Edward Said, Rashid Khalidi, William Ayres, Jeremiah Wright, Samantha Power and Susan Rice -- among others -- to radically post-Zionist like Arnie Wolf, Rahm Emmanuel and David Axelrod not to mention Joe Biden.
Given his pedigree, no one should have been surprised that Obama has chosen to stir up a crisis in his relations with Israel.
