Yesterday’s local elections in the Netherlands resulted in a victory for the Freedom Party (PVV) of opposition leader Geert Wilders. On June 9th the Dutch will again be called to the voting booths for the general elections. Yesterday’s outcome reinforces the PVV’s momentum, which may result in a political landslide next June with repercussions all over Europe.
In yesterday’s local elections – the first ever in which Wilders’ party, established as recently as 2007, participated – the PVV became the biggest party in Almere and the second party in The Hague, two of the country’s major cities. The PVV won 21.6% of the votes in Almere and 16.9% in The Hague. The parties of the left had mobilized Muslim immigrants to come out and vote against Wilders. Many of them did so.

A poll taken yesterday by Dutch state television NOS predicts that Wilders will gain 24 of the 150 parliamentary seats next June. This would make the PVV the third biggest party in the country, after the Christian-Democrats (CDA) of the current Dutch Prime Minister Jan-Peter Balkenende, and Labour. There are, however, other polls, such as the De Hond poll, which many consider to be the Netherlands’ most respected, which predicted yesterday that the PVV is to become the biggest party with 27 seats.

Are the people in the Netherlands starting to wake up to the deadly danger facing the country?
F@*k multicultural relativism.

My first thought is "yahoo",the people are slowly pulling off their nose rings, unplugging their ears and opening their eyes. This is a very good thing. It may happen in Canada one day. My second thought was "wow, what a fractured parliament". It is happening in Canada. We have to either push Quebec out,or treat them like the other provinces, and then they will leave on their own, because they just know that they can stand taller on their own two feet. When they come back to the door, cap in hand,we can negotiate an equal Canada,or we can smile and say au revoir, either way Canada will be stronger.
Are there reliable statistics regarding immigration for the world's countries?
In other words, which are most desirable to move to vs. those which are declining in population due to emigration.
"...the De Hond poll, which many consider to be the Netherlands’ most respected...predicted yesterday that the PVV is to become the biggest party with 27 seats."
Neat, eh? This all happening in the land of dope, whores and unfettered immigration.
"Neat, eh? This all happening in the land of dope, whores and unfettered immigration." --- There may be hope for Vancouver (and Canada) after all.
"dope, whores and unfettered immigration."-sounds good to me! But the biggest party with 27 seats out of 150? Ridonkulous!
Geert Wilders percent totals aren't that high. I don't see why a coalition of other parties can't group together against him to at least blunt his xenophobic program. And maybe their brain cells, when put together, will see the detrimental effect by multiculturalism/welfare statism on the integration of immigrants and the need to eliminate said multiculturalism/welfare statism to contain any further irrational backlash against immigration. Or they'll just navel gaze and keep digging. Whatever, if they won't take them then we will!
Canada needs to prepare for the onslaught of mass Islamic invasion resulting from any fumigation of the Netherlands.
Of course this is Canada, so the reality is:
“.....We can obviously control Islamic extremism far better than our Liberal cousins in Europe; we just need to love them more. A few Tim Horton doughnuts, season tickets at the Sky Dome, a Celine Dion record over a Molson and they will all soon forget about all that silly hating the west nonsense.
It’s like our founder John Lennon once said “imagine no more countries, imagine no more war............imagine all the people................”
Political, economic or "religious" refugees - choices, choices............”
I was not happy hearing about the so called lack of skilled labour and the need to bring in immigrants to fill in the gap - we have the highest unemployment rate we have had it decades plus we had a 28% increase in bankruptcies in 2009. What is up that logic, or I should say lack thereof.
You're being silly and the use of the term 'fumigation' here is disturbing. It's not our love or doughnuts that ensures the successful integration of whoever comes here-it's a functional economy. They work = they integrate.

They're just pissed off --
Other parties which did well were the centre-right D66 and the left-wing Green Left party - the two parties that have been most vocal against Geert Wilders.
The Dutch voters are split, but it is clear the established parties are struggling to stay in touch with them. >>

Oh brother there are people here who actually think immigration should be curtailed to bring down unemployment. This is stupid because 1) it assumes 'the natives' have a right to a job, which is the lefty-think usually applied to trade protectionism, and 2) has no basis in reality whatsoever. Singapore allows more immigration than any other nation in the world and its economy is thriving. Want prosperity and lower crime? Get immigration.
I wonder if the Judges. with its Islamist appeasing enablers that have gone after him so viciously. Do they still have dry pants?
Its a rare bit of good news from Europe, lets hope (even if it is forlorn) that other countries sit up and take note.
Its probably far to late for todays mainstream politicians to change, but this should be a sign, the people put politicians on notice they represented us the people, if they don't we will find someone that does.
27 seats is significant because Holland has a lot of political parties none of whom ever get a majority. Thus every government is a coalition government which works reasonably well. There is definitely a move to the right and Geert Wilders is very popular with ordinary common sense people, much like Sarah Palin in the US.
Interestingly in today's Dutch newspapers members of the Labour Party (PvdA) are bemoaning the fact that six Dutch autotone (ethnic Dutch) politians have been unseated by six allochtone (immigrant Dutch) polititians. Labour party members are complaining "the allochtonen are taking over the PvdA!" say the headlines.
I am reading the Telegraaf in which over 300 comments are posted, the general tone of the ones I read are statements like " why complain, this is what you lefties were working towards." and "this is the beginning of the end of women in government" and "people are just starting to understand Wilders".
Good once Geert wins he can put the ass clown judges through the same trial they forced on him without witnesses for offending everyone else.
"The Public Prosecutor argues that by stating his opinions on Islam, Wilders has “insulted” Muslims. The politician, however, emphasizes that he has never said anything negative about Muslims; he has always carefully restricted his criticism to the ideology of Islam and has done nothing else but state what he honestly sees as the truth. Wilders asked the court for permission to summon 18 expert witnesses in his defense. These include academics, former Muslims, but also Islamist apologists of terrorism. In early February the court brushed aside the request, allowing Wilders to summon only two Dutch academics plus the Syrian born American author and former Muslim Wafa Sultan. Moreover, to prevent the trial from turning into a trial about the nature of Islam – with Islam in the dock rather than Wilders – the court ruled that the three experts will only be heard behind closed doors"
