Meanwhile over at CBC Evan Solomon is questioning Minister Toews about possible harsh treatment in our prisons,double bunking and all that other nasty stuff.

Great picture. I heard about Sheriff Arpaio but never read anything about him. Good article and I agree, we need many more like him.

Arpaio is a joke. Numerous lawsuits against him, serveral investigations, including a federal investigation. Certainly we do not need anymore of his ilk.

And all at 77 years of age. I love an old guy who can still kick some serious butt. More power to him!

Sheriff Joe is the Man. If not for him, there'd be a hell of a lot more crime in Phoenix. Already bad enough due to the never ending flow of Mexicans, among whom number some of the freakiest criminals you'll ever see. Dirtbags hate that jail so bad, they'll leave the state to get away from it. Rumor has it they usually go back to California or even Mexico.

In Arizona when Sheriff Joe's boys show up after you cap some goblin, they say "Nice shootin', Tex." Slightly less concerned with the rights of the attacker than the attackee, 180 degrees to the dumb-@ss way we do it here in Dumbtario.

Joe says his recidivism rate is about 15 percent and estimates the rate nationwide is 50-60 percent. He makes the citizens of Maricopa county safer. Good for Joe. The politicians go after him because he enforces the law.

Arpaio is a piece of garbage. Not only is there any TOTAL absence that immigration increases crime (while some evidence suggests it is lowered), but his thugs have been caught on camera rifling through a defense attorney's files while her back was turned. In court. It's on YouTube. He should be thrown in jail.

Seems the big O's bunch don't like illegal aliens being hassled when their caught involved in committing crimes.
The Deputy MAY not have practiced proper conduct here but what was in the paper he saw which would cause him to push things so far? In addition, the briefcase was open? Does this make it public? If a lawyer spreads papers across a table in the court room, are they still private? Something smells here and I don't trust CNN to be up front.

It's especially amusing to watch the video of his deputies arresting attendees at a council meeting for applauding a speaker who criticized him,(http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bastard/2009/12/joe_arpaio_foes_score_acquitte.php) or the one of his deputy Adam Stoddard sneaking up behind the back of a defense attorney and searching her files while she is giving her summing up to the judge.
The armed raid on his county government's computer center is a quite amusing story too.
He is very good at picking on very unpopular enemies, to the great benefit of his PR. Which obviously works, because he is getting praise here, on a blog where rights such as freedom of speech and of the press generally get high respect.

Sheriff Joe is a hero to his county and the entire state of Arizona.
We need his attitude here in Canada and IN particular that phony flare up of the liberals howling over 'detainee' treatment by the Afghans.

Illegal=/=criminal. Illegal stuff is just what the state (often arbitrarily) designates as against the law. A true crime is a violation of someone's rights. Immigration violates no one's rights and is vital to America and all countries. It is always good.

One of the catch22 consequences of Joe's active pursuit of aliens, or any Police Officer, asking felons if they are illegal aliens.

In Arizona loitering can result in a trip to Sheriff Joe's chain gang.

Get caught doing 36 MPH in a School Zone...trip to the chain gang. More then 20 MPH over the speed limit trip to the chain gang.

How about public intoxication? Go to a football game, have a few too many beers...off to the chain gang for you.
