Was watching the Boston news last night at midnight and they were showing live video from a white out....LOL

Well, I guess that is one way to shut down the place.

Does this mean that Mother Nature is a 'denier'? She is obviously supported by 'Big oil", and besides, this storm is not peer-reviewed.

Big snow falls on bad people. It's Mother Nature's way of showing them the error of their ways.

Are you kidding? Any cataclysmic event only serves to drive 'true believers' deeper into the fold, to bitterly cling to their 'computer models and hockey sticks.'

I loved the line from the linked article:

"Hardware and liquor stores were mobbed."

Good to see people have their priorities straight - screwdrivers, and screwdrivers.

quick, cash in those carbon credits for snowshovels.

This is the second Snowmageddon this year. Clearly not as important as Armageddon.

I suggest that they call these now regular occurrences that somehow prove global warming something different(Is it the exception that proves the rule?) Whatever!!

How about Snowapalooza, or Holy Batsh?t Batman - That's a lot of warm snow?

From the Red Star's article on the storm:

http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/761117--washington-prepares-for-potentially-record-snow-blast

“An epic snowstorm has the mid-Atlantic region in its crosshairs,” Jane Lubchenco of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Distraction (NOAA) said in a statement. (emphasis added)

Drudge report says expect up to 30" of snow in Washington DC.

NOAD...seems appropriate enough.

Syncro

Still dumping over DC today - another 6-10" expected before it starts to blow out overnight

I blame George Bush and AGW for this!

Is that a SS detail in the top photo? Maybe the snow is a racist white plot that covers white people looting the WH if the city breaks down? Don't worry, the Art is safe.

"""Don't worry, the Art is safe.""""

at the Klintons????

I read yesterday that this is Vancouver's warmest January on record -- C7.1 average temp. And the Olympics a week away. Snow is being moved down the mountain at Cypress. It would not be a surprise to see snowboarders in t-shirts at the Olympics.

You know, I'm no believer in all this global warming hype, but I don't think you should trot out snowstorms as evidence against warming.

At least where I live (Toronto), for most of the winter it is too cold to snow, and if I see it snowing in February, I know that it's warm day.

It's the clear and sunny days that are the cold ones.

Al Gore's Weather (AGW) says, let's trot out the "glitch". That old nag is "Fraud".

UNabomber Mo Stlong's "panel of experts" put their money on a Fraud named Glitch.

Fire. Them. All.

"U.N. climate panel reviews Dutch sea level glitch (AGW "Glitch" Alert)

OSLO (Reuters) - The U.N.'s panel of climate experts said on Friday it was reviewing whether it wrongly said that more than half of the Netherlands is below sea level in a new glitch after exaggerating the thaw of Himalayan glaciers We are looking into it," said Brenda Abrar-Milani, a spokeswoman for the Geneva-based Secretariat of the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

A 2007 report stretching to about 3,000 pages includes the sentence that "the Netherlands is an example of a country highly susceptible to both sea-level rise and river flooding because 55 percent of its territory is below sea level."

I'm here in eastern Pa, snowbound. Started around dusk yesterday; supposed to go into mid-afternoon to dusk today. Looks like about 2 ft. so far, and another 6 hrs. to go. Now, winds are starting to blow snow around, creating serious visibility to near whiteout conditions.

Considering myself snowbound for a few days. Ah well, have my PC and Internet; TV and DVD player and some new movies. Steaks in the fridge-think I'll do an indoor barbecue today...and raise a toast to The Goracle (NOT!)

After Al Gore finishes his visit to Washington perhaps he could come to Vancouver for a few days - the Olympics need him.

Ah, no. While Toronto may have a lock on most of Canada's "toos", "too cold to snow" isn't one of them. Toronto's usual lack of snow is about geography, not temp (think "Muskoka"). That and Mayor Miller has the army come in really late at night to sweep up any snowflakes that fall.

Gotta love it, thanks for that Kate...

that's almost as good as the "Hope 'n Whoring" non-Treaty held in freezing temperatures...

Johnny 100 - the "just look out the window" is a direct quote.... from David Suzuki. For years, everything from the early blossoms of cherry trees to hot days in July to the Rideau Canal not freezing on time are trotted out by media quoting "experts" as evidence of warming. So when it's unusually cold, I say they need to suck it up.

We'll keep throwing this crap in their faces at every opportunity, because it's them what wrote the evidentiary rules, even if it's all pretty much meaningless.

Weather varies all the time so an event such as this is no indication of climate change one way or another. But every time there's a hot spell the alarmists declare it to be incontravertable evidence of global warming. They will also declare this snow storm as evidence of global warming, since the models predicted extremes of weather and this is extreme.

You should know by now, all weather events are caused by global warming. If the world wasn't warming, we wouldn't have weather.

Agreed, Dave. In which county are you? We are in Chester County about an hour west of Philly and an hour northeast of Baltimore.

Meanwhile, here in the Vancouver, BC, area, we've just had (one of?) the warmest January's on record, and are continuing the warmth this month. Usual January temps are about 5C for a high and 0C for a low; most days were closer to 9 or 10C for the high and 5C for the low.

And the last two winters here in BC we froze our butts off!

Its called Weather ! Whether it will be cold or whether it will be warm or dry or wet, it is weather.

Dirtman nailed it - according to the chicken littles "If the world wasn't warming, we wouldn't have weather."

Johnny 100 Pesos:
"for most of the winter it is too cold to snow"

I apologize, Kate, for this slightly off-topic post, but I must step in. What Johnny said is a pet peeve of mine.

"Too cold to snow" is never true. Never. While it is true that most of the time we don't see any snow falling when the temperature is below about -25°C, it is not because it's too cold; it's because it's less likely.
Snow production (dendritic crystal growth) is maximized around -12°C. It decreases dramatically below about -20°C, but never gets to zero.
In other words, it's not that it's too cold to snow--it's that it's so cold that the likelihood of snow production is lessened. However, I have seen snow fall at ridiculously cold temperatures. When it happens, though, the clouds making the snow tend to cause the meager radiation (heat) at the surface to be absorbed and re-emitted, warming the area.

Now back to the topic at hand, I think Kate and all of us have every right and good reason to throw this kind of stuff in the warmists' faces, as they take every opportunity to smear us skeptics (AKA real scientists) as "deniers", a disgusting smear the connotation of which my warmist friends claim to be unaware. Suzuki can only regain his credibility, if that's even possible, by a) apologizing for politicizing this perceived problem, and b) doing an entire season of The Nature of Things (on his own dime, no thank you CBC, I don't want you) to show all sides of it.

Any bets on the odds of that happening?

Al Gore's Weather (AGW): Don't blame Moi; Moi just reports the weather.

"Blizzard Warning for DC, NYT: “Capital Is Crippled as Blizzard Continues “

Let it snow… let it snow… let it snow…biggest snowstorm since 1922, and still not over.

From the New York Times, a crippled government. Even the post office gave up."

But it feels good to use snow against people that tell us we will be able to canoe at the North Pole in five years. It's like rubbing granular snow on frostbite. That is now passe, but the memory lingers.

They keep saying the storm is hitting the 'mid Atlantic' which to my mind is some place to the southwest of the Azores. Did the American tea party finally cut Washington DC loose and set it adrift in the ocean?

And if the 'green' heat was the only heat for all the people living in North America ? How windy is it in DC? How brightly is the sun shining?

The above scenario is what PMSH was talking about when he said that Canadians should be thinking about adapting for any temperature mother nature dishes out. Our dependence on electricity in this country is frightening, IMO.The Yukon would be paralyzed and people would die if electricity in winter failed. The Yukon electrical Co. sold out to ATCO a few years ago and ATCO recently sold out to Direct Energy. Direct Energy has a nefarious reputation.

The Yukon could not even get it's life supporting transfer payments cheques into town without electricity!

Another example of our PM's exceptional perception and rational thinking. PMSH is our Ronald Regan and if we stay the course with this exceptional leader, the best is yet to come; if we go 'Obamaisque' via the Blochead led Troika, we will slither off the edge of history. Ducippe will change the national language to French and we will not be able to speak to or understand the 'officials' - everything in the west will rely on truth through gument translators. It is all within the realm of possibility.

dmorris - I will never allow the CTF on my computer screen again - they have shown me their blood red (Commi)colors with this stupid, but telling, stunt.

oops, wrong thread, should be under the CTF's sheep Liberano/dipper ad. above.

Barack Obama, Liedpromises that U.S. emissions in 2050 will be 83 percent below 2005 levels. If so, 2050 emissions will equal those in 1910, when there were 92 million Americans. But there will be 420 million in 2050, so Obama's promise means that per capital emissions then will be about what they were in 1875. That. Will. Not. Happen.

Washington is slient at this hour buried under 3 feet of snow.

Enjoy the calm.

sorry for the double comment,

Now back to the topic at hand, I think Kate and all of us have every right and good reason to throw this kind of stuff in the warmists' faces

Next time your computer crashes, loudly say, "Goddamn Global Warming!"

If you spill your coffee, loudly say, "Goddamn Global Warming!"

When you miss the bus, loudly say, "Goddamn Global Warming!"

If you get fired for falsifying data from computer models, loudly say, "Goddamn Global Warming!"

SERENITY NOW !!!!

IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP YOUR HEAD,
WHEN ALL THOSE ABOUT ARE LOSING THEIRS,
AND BLAMING YOU!

My position is that our DUTY, yes our duty, is not to get excited/hysterical about this mess, alotting blame/responsibility.
Our DUTY is to remain calm...to be the steady rock for those less mature to rely upon for guidance.
We are the ADULTs who saw through this hoax from the get-go. We are the ones to lead our society away from the abiss...not push it over the edge into anarchy.
In the fullness of time, the LORD will deliver them unto our hand.
Let us hope and prayer that this is resolved by a "velvet revolution" not the anarchy and near anarchy of Romania.

is it possible to think of a more deserving place other than Ottawa to demostrate that AGW is nonexistant.

its just too prophetic.

its actually just too statistical. for all the memories of heat this will be the balance and memory of snow and cold.

LOLOLOLOL

central landmasses got socked with cold while maritime regions got warm from elninos and warm oceans. The elnino is mostly done and lanina and coool oceans will rule for awhile.
Think this year was cold for europe?
There will be little ocean heat, depending on factors unknown, and even an active sun won't prevent a FRIGID year ahead...stockup on cheap fuel soonest.

A reminder to everyone..... remember to Google "Solar Minimum" every once in awhile , just to remind yourself of what is really going to happen in the next few years.....

PiperPaul:

You reminded me of a funny, if perhaps apocryphal, story:

After Mao died, his widow and 3 others tried to take over. They were eventually deposed, and decried as the "Gang of Four". The new government blamed every single ill in China on the "Gang of Four".

So it was with some amusement a Western correspondent watched as a Chinese man whose bicycle chain had snapped kicked at his bicycle, shouting "Gang of Four! Gang of Four!".

"So it was with some amusement a Western correspondent watched as a Chinese man whose bicycle chain had snapped kicked at his bicycle, shouting 'Gang of Four! Gang of Four!'."

In the US today, that same bicyclist would likely curse, "Damn you, Bush and Cheney!"

No, silly person, we have dealt with this fallacy before:
http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/010942.html#c369381

I agree with Johnny 100 Pesos.

I don't know why you keep doing this Kate. Pointing out isolated instances of unusual cold spells and/or snow storms in specific locations of the world at a particular time is absurd. In a system as large and complex as planetary climate, there is going to be a tremendous amount of local variation on a short time scale. Pointing out isolated examples of variation consistent with your beliefs is infantile and displays inherently flawed thinking and only fuels the belief of anthropomorphic climate change believers that skeptics are ignorant rubes incapable of logical thought.
