"The WWF was more credible when it stood for fake wrestling."
Update:
For exactly what sort of activist organization is WWF? It is commonly assumed that it is a private advocacy organization funded by donations from the public: in other words, a “non-governmental organization” or “NGO.” But closer inspection of WWF’s finances reveals that the “NGO” moniker is here — as indeed in so many cases — a misnomer. It would be more accurate to describe WWF rather as a “PGO”: a para-governmental organization. In fact, WWF receives massive funding from states. Moreover, it receives massive funding not from just any states, but from precisely that federation of states that has made combating supposed “global warming” into one of its highest policy priorities, if not indeed its highest priority — namely, the European Union.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC
Needs to change it's name to
Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Gossip IPCG
Because that is all then have.
"Scientists fear the controversies will be used by climate change sceptics to sway public opinion to ignore global warming — even though the fundamental science, that greenhouse gases can heat the world, remains strong."
I have trouble understanding how this paragraph fits into the middle of that article.
dp, kind of like this:
"despite the fact that Hitler killed 6 million Jews and was burned like a dead dog in a pit, the fundamental science that Nazism is the rational choice, remains strong."
How's that?
at least vince macmahon eventually fessed up it was all theatrics.
WWF -> WWE. 'E' for ENTERTAINMENT
Now I know where all the Enron and Nortel accountants ended up!
All this Bullshit in the age of the internet. What are they thinking?
bob, There you go assuming they are thinking at all!!!
The latest controversy originates in a report called A Global Review of Forest Fires, which WWF published in 2000. It was commissioned from Andrew Rowell, a freelance journalist and green campaigner who has worked for Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and anti-smoking organisations.
nv53, this bolded text must be amusing to you. I think I'll light a Davidoff Mini Cigarillo in celebration.
Oh wait - too soon?
How odd that absolutely none of these new revelations make it onto the tv. How very, very odd. It is almost painful being better educated on the goings on regarding the IPCC and the state of AGW science than probably 95% of the population. Equally scary, is that most of our MPs are probably equally clueless. And even if an MP were well-informed, what does one do if 95% of their base are totally clueless?
Say, where can I get a copy of Dr. Pachauri's latest work of fiction? lol
Whatever happenned to TV rasslin?
Michael, what you don't seem to understand is that "reality" (for us plebes) is defined as what is seen on TV.
When enough of the plebes get pissed-off and demand something, well that's when we hear about reality.
Left to their own devices, the chattering classes and those who focus on whatever they're saying at the moment will always trump those who want to ask pointed questions.
It's getting close to pitchfork time.
How odd that absolutely none of these new revelations make it onto the tv.
The 'tv' is completely absorbed with bring you all the new about Negroes all the time ... from the white house to Haiti to the Grammies this very night.
All to prove again and again how non-racist we are in the new millennium.
At lest that's how it appears. All the beautiful people were singing "we are the world" at the Grammies yet again, to save the usual suspects from themselves ... yet again.
Who has time to report negatively on Climate change? That is an egg head and nouveau Euro hippie thing and and the 'tv' people think it's a done deal. Whatever that is. Something about taxing the productive to support the non productive. And who would they be? Perhaps the same 'victims' that "we are the world" was written for ... ya .. I think I have those dots connected.
What is this "Grammies" you speak aboot.
OK, yeah, I was aware of it, but I spent my time Sunday watching 42 Ways to Kill Hitler on the History Channel and the Mythbusters trying to do science.
Oooh, boy, am I going to have to explain myself at the company watercooler tomorrow.
"What, you didn't see X celebrity pretend to get angry at Y celebrity while Z celebrity distracted the audience? What kind of moron are you?"
Aaaaaargh.
IPCC Infallible Weather Indicator:
http://powinca.blogspot.com/2009/12/infallible-ipcc-weather-indicator.html
Mark Levine has an interesting take on his third hour Friday. Now their saying water vapor is causing the blimp in the warming alternate Universe they live in. Next will be a band by the EPA on moisture laden products or even pools.
It's settled: Choo-Choo's IPCC is dead.
The left-socialists have thrown Choo-Choo overboard.

"Pachauri fails to get UK support over 'unsubstantiated' climate report claims
Chair of IPCC facing allegations that claims made in key reports did not have required standard of scientific review
Rajendra Pachauri, who has faced criticism as chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change following allegations of inaccurate statements in panel reports, suffered a fresh blow last night when he failed to get the backing of the British government.
A senior government official reiterated Pachauri's position but stopped short of expressing confidence in him. "The position is that he is the chair and he has indicated that mistakes were made," the climate change official said. "There is no vacancy at this stage, so there is no issue at this stage."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/feb/01/rajendra-pachauri-ipcc-claims
The problem is to ensure Pachauri's silence and willingness to carry the can by himself when he departs. That will be expensive. No doubt he has taken precautions to document who said what to him and when as to how he was to run this scam.
One can hope we shall soon see forlorn gentlemen in shabby $5k suits on the street corners of world financial centres holding signs reading "Will trade US$100k long Zimbabwe carbon credits for food. Please help."
"Say, where can I get a copy of Dr. Pachauri's latest work of fiction? lol

Would that be the romance novel or the UN published SciFi?
"even though the fundamental science, that greenhouse gases can heat the world, remains strong."
Well of course they do. If not for the greenhouse effect there would be no life on earth.
We in Alberta have our own "Puchauris", they are Andrew Nikiforkinit, and David Swindler. These two clowns are Albertas own self appointed eco-canarys tweeting away all day about the evil Tarsands as they call the project, never once telling their willing useful idiots in the media, that the oil from the oilsands is, has , and always will be seeping into the river systems NATURALLY. Yes, sadly all these clowns are only on natures side, until their pockets can be filled by duping fools with really scary bedtime boogieman stories.
So if the IPCC gets rid of Pachauri, the IPCC will simply fill his position with another meat puppet who will claim that the mess at the IPCC has been cleaned up. Unfortunately, the fraud will continue.
At least the wrestlers sweat a little bit as they ply their trade; unlike the IPCC bureaucrats who live lavishly off the money they scam as they pour through rock climbing journals and university theses to glean "solid evidence" for their global warming charade.
Of course there is no MSM coverage. Our game plan is to "matriculate the ball down the field", to quote Hank Stram in the spirit of the Super Bowl this weekend.
Oops, sorry Abe, wouldn't want to keep-up with the "Negros" playing ball would we?
OT/ the Grammy's were excellent. Sir Elton showed -up the Lady Gaga wrt eccentric outfits. lol
Hope bringing-up a gay dude doesn't irritate you Abe.

Btw, I thought Jon Bon Jovi gave a half-assed effort during his performance.
REUTERS - It has been reported that Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is to be replaced by the "Slap-Chop" guy.
"IPCC" = "Infernal Pit of Collusion and Corruption"
WWF funding from the public purse!....they have nothing on the fruit fly guy Suzuki....his mansions were funded mainly by Canadian Taxpayers (CBC). Another reason the CBC should be taken off the public teat!
Why is the EU pushing climate change? Won't it hurt them and their citizens? I realize that many pols have personal financial interest in the carbon markets and pressure from crony capitalists but is there hidden benefits for the EU region? Or are they just brain-dead pols like Charest and McGuinty who are so progressive that they do not realize/care about the negative impacts of carbon meddling.
The EU is pushing for more world government just like them. The world needs more enlightened philosopher kings to regulate the acceptable shape of a banana. And they are just doing it for our own good.
I think Kate nailed it on day 1 of ClimateGate. Something about a bottle genie.
Anyways, the more I think about it the more likely it is that 100% of the reports/findings/science regarding AGW is bunk. After all, why would you need to supplement the "good" reports with "bad" ones? That’s if you have “good” ones.
Me thinks this one has taken on a life of it's own.
The main priority(for us) turns to fighting this farce domestically. Many commenter’s have noticed that most of our politicians wouldn't object to pricing Carbon regardless of the motive. It's a race against the clock; can the government(take your pick) institute this new sin tax before the public is aware of what is happening? Once the sin tax is law, we will not be able to go back regardless of what anyone wants. We must break the mentality of our friends and neighbours that CO2 emissions are bad. Even without AGW, most people now believe(especially your children) that burning fossil fuels is bad. People must understand that burning fossil fuels is positive for humans, plants and animals. Without this, the excuses will change but the end game will not.
So if one says something bizarre, you can implement public policy on it?
Jupiter is an enemy planet!
Let the money roll in.
Is there ever going to be a study on how much damage these ludicrous ideas have cost people?
Au contrarians: The science is settled.
Lizard Green says so.

Oh yea, the wildcard in domestic AGW game is the EPA. How much trouble, or orchestrated trouble will the EPA cause for Obama when the Cap'n Trade bill dies in the Senate? I suspect, for the economy, Obama will have to find a way to get the Cap'n Tax done; else suffer never ending class action suits on behalf of Mother Earth against the government. After all, it's for the economy.

[.....Why is the EU pushing climate change? Won't it hurt them and their citizens?]
Euro-crats....They have control of Europe today....tomorrow the world.
When did a bureaucrat give two ????? about the citizens?
Here is my memory of circumstances surrounding the formation of the IPCC and particularly the first report of the IPCC. Kofi Annan was the Secretary General of the UN and Canada's own Maurice strong was his chief advisor. 2500 scientists from around the world were hired to determine what if any effect (Anthropogenic) mankind had on world temperatures and climate. When it came time to submit their report they wrote a summary which in effect they said they were unable to reach a consensus with the information available in the time alloted. This summary was handed in to the secretariat in the name of the whole group. Miraculously a newly minted summary appeared from the Secretariat which changed the duties of the group of scientists to say they were to substantiate evidence of Anthropogenic causes of Global Warming and furthermore they had found positive indicators that this was so. The 2500 scientists were deemed to be signators to this summary. This summary was duly printed and released without further input from the scientists and the summary authors. Bear in mind what I have said is unsubstantiated and sould be interpreted as my opinion only. What is needed is research by a more able researcher than myself to either substantiate my memory of the events of that time or refute them.
My contention is that if there is truth in my take of the events then there is ample reason to suggest the origin of claims of malfeasance by today's scientists of the IPCC relate to them only following the example of a "highly esteemed" leader who had done much the same before them.
I put this up on the weekend somewhere , I'll do it again . The Obama administration is using cap and trade revenue in 2011 's budget . This is money that literally does not exist .
So basically we have the Euro weenies trying to screw over the North American economy in order to smash the American greenback and elevate the Euro.
International Panel of Corrupt Collaborators
Indy at 5.40 is this quote really you?
"The main priority(for us) turns to fighting this farce domestically..."
On the "The Time Has Come" thread you are saying that the current government has done the right thing by agreeing to a 17% carbon reduction and beating on Alberta oil sands producers - over a farce?
I agree with your comments here, but remain of the view that if the CPC adopts this position it will be seen as speaking out of both sides of its mouth and be really scary to the voters. They will ask what is Harper's real agenda.
rroe:
What part of the Alberta government and the Canadian government are working together on this don't you understand?
Rajendra Kumar Pachauri is just following in the footsteps of Michael Creighton....the NYT Bestsellers list.
They didn't agree to a 17% carbon reduction, they agreed to
a "target" or "goal" thereto. They will not try to achieve it.
However, if they don't lie, they won't get elected.
Yes, I've been consistent. If America passes Cap'n Tax then we will follow out of necessity. We lost this argument politically a long time ago. Our only salvation IS BO's weakness. The only thing PMSH has done is take political cover; and yes, I do agree that PMSH runs the risk of losing his base regardless of what he does. He could take your position and subject Canadian exports to whatever penalties come forth, and lead a regional party; or, he can do as he's doing, realizing he has no power, and lose his base as you suggest. The market dictates that you sell what the consumer requires. Conservatives should know better than to show-up at a vegetarian fruit sale with a pack of steaks.
What I’m having difficulty understanding is what are the tangible benefits for PMSH taking your position? Preserving the base? Give me something rroe!
Regarding so called conservatives that would sit-out the election giving strength to central Canada and the Liberals I’d say… actually I won’t say it because, no f-bombs today.
Now, if the Cdn. government cut off funding to the WWF, that would be sweeeeet.
He doesn't risk losing the base, he risks
losing the extremists. How significant that
might be remains to be seen.
Skeptics are being funded by "Big Oil" and it looks like the IPCC and the AGW movement is being fueled by the WWF and tree huggers everywhere. Its madness I tell you! It's time somebody digs up the truth! I tend to be skeptical at the best of times...or is that cynical...I like Bjorn Lomborg's approach to the matter....
And to think I donated to the WWF. Thankfully I saw the light about 3 years ago, it was when I saw a polar bear in their advertising. Now my wild life donation goes to the Marmot Foundation on Vancouver Island.
The IPCC and the AGW movement are being funded by "Big Oil" too. Big Oil isn't stupid, they cover their bases. And cynic and skeptical hardly overlap; to be cynical one must be pessimistic, whereas an optimistic skeptic is completely reasonable.

You have that right... in the US Pll are tired of politicians that don't "LEAD". The go along/come along type will be gone in September....
Just look at the race in Mass. Scott’s positions where in your face reality...Vote No to Heath Care, No Civil Trials for terrorists, etc.. The issues were simple & in direct Contrast to the Dems...
The WWF are the leaders of the UN/EU communist drive for a world Governance.... Pick any Environ Group & the leadership can be traced back to the UN/EU... The California group are engaged in treason ….treason is serious....
"Mark Peters: So basically we have the Euro weenies trying to screw over the North American economy in order to smash the American greenback and elevate the Euro."
Yes, this is exactly what it's all about, and its what it's been all about all the way back to the Rio conference in 1992. The EU has always seen Kyoto as a means of restraining the trade advantage of North America with Asia. North America still has enormous room to grow, given our population densities, whereas Europe does not. That means the axis of the world's economy will increasingly shift to North America and Asia over the next century. Only a clamp on industrial nation development such as Kyoto or various green energy revolutions can possibly put a stop to it. It's a consistent policy and the Euros have been pursuing it for 20 years.
