These same reporters get the Olympics story more or less wrong as well. Fans and athletes are having a great time at the Winter Olympics and give it a generally good review, despite (or maybe because of) the warm weather.

The British press want to send us to our rooms with no custard (dessert, whatever).

Now there's some nimrod from Venezuela on our case, a 56-year-old luger (say no more) who says our luge track is deadly. Meanwhile the real pros say it has been changed to a "children's track" because of the accidents mainly to the second-tier athletes who the international federation allow in, it's hardly a vote taken by the people at VANOC.

Well that's interesting, a Venezuelan joining the media chorus, and it makes me wonder how much of this is objective reporting, and how much is a set up for our government which the international chattering classes consider hopelessly reactionary.

Not that said government has much to do with the Olympic games, it's really the ultra-progressive BC government (with its lone, stationary wind turbine on top of Grouse Mountain) that is holding the torch, so to speak.

The media ... always the last to know ... they are still just getting their first sniff of the climategate scandal. Why anyone bothers to buy a newspaper or turn on the network news nowadays, I really don't understand.

How bad is it getting when our main stream media are making up stories to deny. At what time do they stop and reflect on where their industry and product are at and if it is still resonating with anyone. I have resorted to not buying papers and turning off my car radio when the news comes on because I am so mad at the spin doctoring, lazy reporting, exaggerating and just plain getting things wrong. On a related note, does anyone think the games are as bad as the media are reporting, I think Vancouver is doing a wonderful job.

Steve, if I read the attached link correctly, it was someone on Twitter who said Lightfoot was dead, and the MSM actually posted the denials.

It's not that they don't screw up regularly, but in this case, they did their actual job.

I understand Kate's satirical take on this. The MSM falls all over themselves to say Lightfoot's not dead. Hey, I'm not dead yet (in fact, I'm feeling much better) but I don't expect to be reading that in the papers anytime soon. It's a non-story, really, but Lightfoot is such an icon of Canadian music, I can see why an editor would feel the need to post the truth.

But I expect the columnists in the major dailies to be writing op-eds saying this is why you can't trust the Internet or the blogosphere, and you can only get the real news from them.

And while Franco is still dead, Chevy Chase is not, although his career is.

I saw GL perform back in'80 - he was dead drunk - so much so that he forgot the words to a few of his songs.

Kate is definitely not dead. On the other hand, she is not Canadian.

Her husband owns 3 Caterpiller tractors distributorships in Texas and Oklahoma. I see her on a regular basis at Republican gatherings.

So far as I know, she has not been implicated in any scandals since her mysterious association with the death of Hunter S Thompson while she was in Colorado.

The RebecaCohn in halifax(stupendous acoustics) is where ich heard him and his stoic chords.

But more importantly, what about Fidel Castro? Is he dead? Or somewhere between alive and dead?

Perhaps the Kremlin has sent their Comrade State Taxidermists to Cuba to spruce Fidel up a bit....so they can eventually pull him around on a small cart so he looks like he is still alive.

Yep, old Gordo has had a problem with the bottle for a long time. It cost him his marriage, his relationship with his kids, and probably a good deal of his career.

Endless Wire, which is my personal favourite besides some of the compilations, deals with the problem in a way that made Tiger Woods' performance today look stilted and amateurish.

Lightfoot is still alive thanks to the efforts of one Mike Marcacchio. A great Doc and a good guy.
(OK -so he fixed a problem in my crotchitorial area a few years ago). Whenever I am asked about the surgery, I always tell people it was done by Gordon Lightfoot's surgeon.
It hasn't got me laid yet, but I'm trying.
