But, But, But, TEN experts just came up with a CONSENSUS.....
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100221/ap_on_sc/us_sci_warming_hurricanes
jcl, notice how those 10 "experts" also indicate we'll be getting fewer, but more extreme storms in the future? That's a wholesale change from the More-Frequent-And-Stronger-Storms meme from previous years' so-called consensus.
If the Lame Stream Media were properly doing their job, they'd be calling out these changes in consensus. God Bless the internet. I honestly fear where we would be if the internet wasn't around providing an "open source" media to the world.
Hey jcl, it's Seth Borenstein again! Watch how he and his headline writers torture the worst possible scenerio out of a paper based on predictions that are at best, contradictory.
Well said Colin from BC; We have disrupted the MSM's Algore-rhythms, they are having a harder time trotting out experts, there are thankfully not as many "expert charlatans" as before, willing to spot a michrophone. Other than a few like Goldstein and Gunter, the rest of our MSM repeaters still believe. There's more sattelite dishes on the tops of most Calgary Herald NYTimes buildings than plates in a hotel, and these idiots are still to stupid to check facts, hard to understand why they hate themselves so much to not see the looming UN taxation about to befall them too! Thanks to Kate and WUWT etc to keep shining the light on these cockroaches.
Keep in mind that we are dealing with religion here with a cult like subserviance. Here in Vancouver we now have one of their Icons on the mountains of the north shore. A wind turbine gracing the top of Grouse mountain as a crucifix if you will of their "sign"!
THAT is sad harry moon !! lol
Paul in calgary.
One wonders how much fossil fuels were burned to:
1. Manufacture the wind turbine.
2. Ship it to Vancouver
3. Haul it to the top of the mountain.
4. Install it.
One further wonders how long, if ever, it will take for this single turbine to offset these initial energy costs. I'd put my money on "if ever".
I hope everyone realized I was being sarcastic?
Go green.

"Calif. agency gives waterless urinals the flush
Sacramento, Calif. (AP) -- A state agency in charge of environmental regulation has flushed its six-year experiment with waterless urinals.
According to California Environmental Protection Agency spokeswoman Lindsay VanLaningham, the agency has removed all 56 waterless urinals at its 25-story headquarters in downtown Sacramento."
"But VanLaningham says CalEPA has received hundreds of complaints over the years about foul odors and wet floors. Maintenance costs also grew high."

There were actually more intense hurricanes in the first half of the 20th Century than there were in the second half. Efforts at predicting the number of hurricanes in a season, and their intensity, have proven to be a dismal failure.
Associated Press's Statement of News Values and Principles appears to have about as much credibility as the former Soviet Union's constitution.
jcl -- yes. Your point was taken in the spirit intended. :)

About 14 minutes and well worth the listen. He wants a criminal investigation which wouldn't result in a slap of the wrist. This guy means business.

The ability to accurately predict and prepare for storms shouldn't be hampered by "green" scientists' quest to cover their butts. Any such scientist caught lying should be made to clean up after the storms they thought would destroy an entire region. Maybe then they might temper their predictions with actual common sense!

Current Northeast Storm to Pale in Comparison to Late-Week Monster
Very soon after a storm dumps up to a foot and a half of snow on parts of upstate New York into Wednesday, a second, much larger and much more powerful storm will impact tens of millions of people in the Northeast by damaging winds and areas of heavy snow, heavy rain and flooding Thursday into Friday. Since the storm will behave like a hurricane with snow, it will cut power for days in some areas, while severely impacting travel and daily activities. Full Story"

Neil Cavuto somehow managed to get warmist (crazy) Joe Romm on his Fox show today and using a few doubting phrases as a red flag he just let the climate changer's verbal diarrhea run at max output. It was both frightening and laughable at the same time.
One of the things the warmers do not address is the reality that until the later half of the 20 century, many Atlantic Hurricanes/Tropical Storm were never erported unless they made a landfall somewhere----if fact it is probable that a hurricane which was reported in.....say Trinidad and a hurricane that was later reported in Texas....were actually 1 storm not 2. Meanwhile hurricanes popped up in the Tropical Convergence Zone and then disipated without any record whatsoever.

"The problem with Seth (and others obviously) is that they have staked so much on their global warming prognostications they can not bring themselves to back away and admit they've erred."""
the data has been purposely falsified. its not an error , its fraud.
We must never forget that climate (warm, cold, violent, temperature) has never been the goal of these 'climatoligists' or their Bolshevik masters. Climate fanaticism was designed to be a means (mass hysteria) to an end (economic slavery). It was never about pollution (CO2 is not a pollutant it is a natural gas, essential for the growth of plants, animals and people) it was always about control (if people are prevented from producing products they become dependant no body's - of no importance - nobody fears the wrath of a nobody!). Mr. Monckton explained the whole scenario very well prior to the 'Hoppin and a hagagain' cult fest.
Of note is the fact that the AGW thingie followed hot on the tail of the fanatical anti tobacco and smoking ban rhetoric - not based on truth or scientific facts; it was based on 'health scares'; that scary whacko scam worked so well for the control freaks that they stepped it up to make climate (temperature) the most frighting force on earth. The control freaks once again saw an opportunity to control people and to bankrupt independent business people (a gument cannot control people who are not dependant on gument for their bread and butter); these people are the speed bumps preventing the human hating elitists from taking over every aspect of all people's lives. Control was the motivation behind Prohibition, not concern for drunks or drunk's families - the elitists don't like to see a happy, prosperous population; they want people to be poor and miserable because poor miserable people have hate on the frount plate in their minds and the haters can be depended on to bring down others so they will have the satisfaction of knowing that people they envied have been brought down ('Misery loves company').
Unca Mo and his pals need money to finance their 'helpers'; when GW Bush and the coalition invaded Iraq and ended the 'cheap oil for cash' scam that had been funding activities all over the world (they sold the oil on the free market for huge profits); the elitists had to 'invent' a new scam. The climate control was so bizzare that they set up a test run on banning tobacco (hating smokers) to see how gullible people might be - they threw out the 'yapping lines' to the hysterics - anyone who defended the right to smoke tobacco was labeled a murderer and a child abuser. At the same time the elitists (via msm) destroyed Tony Blair, Mr. Howard (Australia) and GW Bush - the latter because those three leaders destroyed the supply of free money they had been harvesting by trading cash instead of food and medical supplies to Saddam Hussein for Iraq's oil. (The UN was in on the cash for cheap oil racket)
The anti tobacco experiment worked, it bankrupt thousands of businesses and it pitted people against each other; the Climate fanaticism would have put the finial nail in the coffin but for a few bloggers (notably Kate here at sda) a few scientists with integrity (Steve McIntyre and a few others) a few politicians (PMSH, Mr. Vaclav Klaus, Mr. GW Bush, the President of Georgia, Senator Inhofe) one or two msm people: Glen Beck, Rush Limbach, Lorrie Goldstein, Western Standard Magazine specifically Ezra Levant and Mr. Warren.
I knew a few people, like my Dad, who thought the whole thing was a joke (the smoking ban and the hopy changie temperature hyper ventilating) but most people were thinking that the Climate was a problem and that paying for it was our problem (just like the anti smoking rhetoric - some rational people still think smoking tobacco is evil, not a pleasing habit).
When people like us were gifted with Climategate it was a big relief - we did not have to have our intelligence insulted every day by people who were 'going green' - 'for the planet' - preach to us every day and looking at us with contempt and derision when we said that we did not "BELIEVE". We were not going to be forced to down grade our lives to the stone ages! Gloating was a secondary relief.
The elitists are still attempting to save some $$ from their shattered scam, pull themselves together and get on another bandwagon to steal our happiness and Liberty. Watch for it, it is already in the pipes and I think it has something to do with the persecution of Mr. Wilders.
The msm (with the exception of Fox News and Western Standard) has been the human hating elitist's spokesman for all these scams against the living people of the world - it is always good to know your enemy.
Perverts and sex offenders - that's what you get with oil & gas exploration, besides global warming. In the immortal words of Mo the bartender from the Simpsons "please!, God!, won't somebody think of the children!"

Hopes for a swift global recovery suffered a jolt yesterday as freezing winter weather contributed to a sudden drop in spending and confidence across several advanced economies."
"Brian Bethune, chief US financial economist at Global Insight, said the severe weather had undermined consumer sentiment. “Consumer spending is not expected to energise the recovery in 2010, but rather plod along at relatively subdued rates. Today’s report simply reinforces that view,” he said."

Wait,,, there's more:
"BREAKING: Senator Barbara Boxer and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson Throw IPCC Under the Bus"
"Following the release of the Inhofe Report, Boxer claimed she was only quoting "American scientists," and Jackson reversed herself on the use of the IPCC as the "gold standard."
"During the review of the Environmental Protection Agency budget in today’s Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing, both Senator Barbara Boxer — the chair of the committee — and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson distanced themselves from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report (AR4).
Boxer and Jackson’s statements, in addition to being a striking change in policy, are problematic because U.S. climate science is very closely tied to the IPCC reports (as Christopher Horner showed in his recent PJM series on the NASA FOIA emails.)
The statements by Boxer and Jackson followed Senator Inhofe’s release (see the PJM exclusive report) in his opening statement of a minority staff report documenting many flaws in the IPCC report and the other evidence revealed in the Climategate files. (See the full hearing on CSPAN here; the exchanges with Senator Boxer and Inhofe, and Administrator Jackson begin at about 56 minutes into the video.)
Both Boxer and Jackson appeared to be trying to distance the EPA from the IPCC report. Boxer said:
In my opening statement, I didn’t quote one international scientist or IPCC report. … We are quoting the American scientific community here.
When Inhofe directly asked Jackson if she still considered the IPCC report the “gold standard,” she answered:
The primary focus of the endangerment finding was on climate threat risks in this country."

Saw wind power turbines installed off the Netherlands on PBS TV.
Large? 400 tons each.
Kill birds and bats? That size turns slow as molasses.
Take up farmland? They are set in the ocean bed. No land required.
What's the problem with these new modern wind machines?
Also they showed the tidal power gen plant in the bay of Fundy Nova Scotia.
Tides of 47 feet sure can generate BIG power with both tides coming and going.
Well and carefully built. Only three maintenance shutdowns in 20? years.
I'm so easily fooled.. eh?
maz2, would that Environment Canada, Farm Credit Corporation and the provincial environment ministries, including Saskatchewan's (hint, hint), would quit drinking Al Gore's kool-aid and wake up soon.
Jeffery Sachs sez smokers are the people making
'selling AGW to the sheeples a difficult task:
" Later still, the group (smokers rights people) defended the tobacco giants against charges that second-hand smoke causes cancer and other diseases. And then, starting mainly in the 1980s, this same group took on the battle against climate change.
What is amazing is that, although these attacks on science have been wrong for 30 years, they still sow doubts about established facts. The truth is that there is big money backing the climate-change deniers, whether it is companies that don't want to pay the extra costs of regulation, or free-market ideologues opposed to any government controls."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/cif-green/2010/feb/19/climate-change-sceptics-science
So you see the game the guy is playing - a person who supports smoking bans cannot be sceptical about AGW. Puts a lot of resistors out of the loop! Pit people against each other, divide and conquer. Pathetic.
In my opening statement, I didn’t quote one international scientist or IPCC report. … We are quoting the American scientific community here.
Boxer
maz2,
I am sure Boxer thought that was brilliant solution to the IPCC fraud...It's lucky her brain lacks foresight... They are now in a very small BOX …How can they campaign publicly or privately against a Rico Investigation of the IPCC & Carbon Trading fraud….
defended the tobacco giants against charges that second-hand smoke causes cancer and other diseases
Jema 54,
Yes Smokers are very bad..bad...but we know that the Tobacco Giants are NOT our friends. They sold out to the Government in exchange for profit margins. (Not unlike the big Auto/Oil Companies) A little theater goes a long way...
The Indians Tribes have joined together and are now "Manufacturing" & Selling Cigarettes on the reservations ($18-$24 a Carton)
The Govn't insane taxation, Phillip Morris's profit, and the activists, have formidable competition...
Friends of Big Tobacco indeed!

I'm so easily fooled.. eh?

Yeah you are, if you think that the birds and bats are killed by the smaller turbines because of the speed of the blades and are somehow unable to get out of the way.
That seems to demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding on your part of at least one issue related to wind turbines.
OZ,
Higher speed. Isn't that obvious? You demonstrate intentional point blindness.
I love it when dreamers stumble into my iron clad wood chipper logic and become so much mush.
Globull warming was great fun while it lasted and did contribute to less pollution with the promotion of wind farms and electric vehicles.
Horns REV1 Windfarm.. [offshore ocean shallows]
The 489 ton Vestas turbines deliver 2% of Denmark power needs or enough for 150,000 homes. So big and slow, they kill almost NO birds.

The 160MW Horns Rev (Horns Reef) offshore wind farm has 80 turbines off the west coast of Denmark's Jutland peninsula.
Horns Rev was the world's largest offshore project when Elsam installed it in 2002, close to Blåvands Huk in the North Sea. It is now owned by Vattenfall (60%) and Dong Energy (40%).
