The First American Prime Minister On Haiti

Really, where better to start?

Someone really needs to get him on the record answering that question. (Just think of the photo op ... "Prime Minister Michael Ignatieff at the Morgentaler Clinic, Port-Au-Prince ribbon cutting".)

curious the fundie nutbars in the Cons got that much stroke.

Guess if your spewing liberal fiscal policy everywhere, Harper had to man up to his base somehow.

Might as well keep them in the huts.

Haiti? I don't get it.

So if I have this right, his position is if we don't kill them then we will put in daycare for those we miss. I'm confused. Other than the taxpayer paying for both I'm not seeing the connection.

read the link Melvin...

If you read the first paragraph that Kate has linked to, it has mention of where specifically, our "first american prime minister in waiting", would like to start the funded abortion initiative.
"... must include abortion in his G8 initiative to mobilize international support for maternal and child health care in the world's poorest countries".

I'm guessing that despite the recent cash outlay for Haiti, it's still on the list of "world's poorest countries"

Indeed, we're constantly reminded that they're the poorest of the poor. Surely, having Canadian taxpayers pay... er, borrow .... for Haitian abortions must be among Ignatieff's highest priorities.

Am I the only one who thinks Iggy doesn’t seem to understand the words "Maternal and Child health care"? How does killing your unborn child put you in need of maternal and child healthcare?

One of my questions for the "first american prime minister in waiting" would include, do you think we should be funding abortion clinics and women's health initiatives including "plan B pills" in these poorest of the poor countries... "Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Somalia, Nigeria, Pakistan"?

I've taken the list from here...
http://islamicterrorism.wordpress.com/2008/07/01/muslims-amongst-worlds-poorest-weakest-illiterate-what-went-wrong/

kind of an interesting monday night read through... but it's not real new information regarding the religion of peace.

Mr. Ignatieff makes a salient point. Publicly funded, safe abortions, birth control and counselling, maternal and child health care and publicly supported daycare must be included and addressed. Conservatives such as Valicott and Trost continually want to undermine the exceptional work that organizations such as Planned Parenthood do and want to inculcate and impose their values and so-called morals on every woman with an unwanted pregnancy. It is time they extricated themselves from the dark ages.

Why should I pay for it T? And while your at it work backwards from 9 months and tell me at what day the baby is no longer a human being.

Mr. Iffy is quite explicit re Dear Leader and the children on the cold floor in Dear Leader's "publicly supported" day/night nursery.

"Violence in N.Korea as hunger woes mount: reports"

"Yonhap news agency, quoting traders near the Chinese border with North Korea, said the number of people dying of hunger is rising."

http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/6753344/violence-in-nkorea-as-hunger-woes-mount-reports/

Comrade T says "Publicly funded, safe abortions, birth control and counselling, maternal and child health care and publicly supported daycare must be included and addressed."

Oh really? Who says so? You? You believe that you should be able to force your views on those matters on people in other countries who may or may not agree with your oh-so enlightened thinking? How very imperialist of you, Comrade.

Who are they going to pay to do the abortions? Witch doctors?

Right now if you want to improve their lot, start investing in innoculations, antiparasitic, antibiotic, and pesticides, clean water, condoms, and a fricking stable infrastructure and government. More people die of malaria and cholera than having one or two kids.

Going into these third world holes and applying our abortion clinics isn't going to help anyone.

I thought Iggy was supposed to be educated on these matters? What an idiot.

Oh wait its the MSM media ploy to make Harper look bad. Ok now I get it.

Well said, ward at February 2, 2010 8:40 PM!

"Someone really needs to get him on the record answering that question."-Kate

It'd also be really nice if someone asked Dual-Citizen Izzy on live TV what he thought of the outcome of the Senatorial election in his home state.

Well, at least one staff member at the Post would agree with Mr. Iffy.

Problem with comments on Klavan post, Kate, which actually ties right in to this post.
Instead of having so many moms and children to help in Haiti(reality), Iggy thinks we should provide abortion, then there would be fewer 'problems' during a disaster.(culture)

Abortions and interference in reproduction on the international front has been a mandate with UN and Planned Parenthood for years.

Dear T, don't you ever get tired of aimlessly mouthing Liberal talking points? Do you have a mind of your own? Is there not one Liberal position you disagree with? Have you ever tried playing "devil's advocate" and arguing the other side of the equation? Why do we need a daycare plan when we are aborting over a hundred thousand every year?
In 2006 (the most recent year for which statistics are available) - 91,377 abortions were reported.

According to Statistics Canada, this number is 90% of the actual number of abortions. The real number should be 101, 530. Participation in the Therapeutic Abortion Survey from which this data is collected is voluntary for private abortion clinics and hospitals.

That's 278 abortions a day or 12 every hour.

Only the Alberta clinics have provided detailed records which means that we have only 8,159 detailed records when the total number of abortions in these figures for clinics is 43,991.

While the hospitals report more - we still have detailed reports for only 33,371 of the 47,319 abortions performed in hospitals.

54.4% of abortions were undergone by women in the 20-29 range.

21.3% (19,463) of the women were having their second abortion.

10.5 (9,595) of the women were having their third abortion.

The rate of abortion per 100 live births in total was 25.7. Hospital (13.9) and clinic (11.8)

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/daily-quotidien/090824/dq090824e-eng.htm

So tell me T why should I pay for these? I didn't impregnate these women, nor do I believe that all of these women had health issues. Is pregnancy an illness? If it is not then why is it funded under heathcare?

If the heathcare budget can be used to fund abortion under a woman's right to choose, why then is the choice to bear children thru artificial insemination or tubal ligation reversal also not funded? Why does the decision to destroy the unborn merit heathcare dollars while the decision to bear children does not?

If we are concerned about a falling birth rate to the point where we increase immigration levels, why would we not fund new mothers to the same extent as we fund illegal immigrants or for that matter bogus refugee claimants?

Why, when the best outcome for a child is provided by a two parent family and the ideal is one stay at home parent, will the Liberals not announce generous funding for stay at home parents?

In short T why do Liberals care so little about Canada's children?

What ever gives this air head Iggy think that Conservatives would be against Liberals having abortions ;-)

Shouldn't we eventually run out of Liberals if they believe so fervently in abortion and Planned Parenthood?

U...excellent!!
I would only add that a majority of Canadians are unaware that abortion can be performed at ANY time during the pregnancy, right up to 9 months.

Ignatieff states: "This is the last place to start playing politics here and ideology here. " --
So then why is he playing politics with this issue? His comments were clearly made for domestic consumption. The "consensus" around abortion services is a Canadian "consensus" and does not reflect that of countries world wide. Does he think we should push our views on others? Anyway his comment is not about services at all -- it Playing politics, pure and simple.

If you would like an amusing read, go back to the article on Ignatieff and substitute "killing their kids" for "abortion" and then re-reading the article.

Oh, and what do you think the ethnic makeup is of a majority of women seeking abortions?

Enquiring minds want to know.

U, well said! Thanks so much. Awesome. Please run for Prime Minister - you have my vote.

quite frankly. I do not think that abortion "services" would go over very well in those Catholic or Muslim countries.

LindaL

Absolutely for domestic consumption. Oldest card in the Liberal playbook. I can only hope it blows up in their face as the cynical ploy that it is.

Yes Canadians want to have a debate about abortion about as much as they want to discuss the constitution.

Nice. Real Nice.

I recall my attitude/opinion on abotion when this carnage began years past.
Maturing and consequences have altered that.
Those Pro-life TV ads are dramatic. They begin with a crowd scene and gradually erase the images---of people. Then the penny drops.
An aging population without a maintaining birth-rate necessitating imigration to pay the taxes.
Schools closing because of lower enrollment.
Paul Gross commented that Comparing WWI to Afghanistan----we would have 3 million troops in Afghistan and have sustained 300,000 dead.....
I'm not sure about Canada's WWI population but it was only 12-14 million during the second great misunderstanding...when we deployed about 1,000,000 in uniform---ended with the 4th largest airforce and navy and had a separate beachhead(Juno) on D-Day.
Now with a population of 33 Million(?) we can fit them all in Maple Leaf Gardens.
It's not money priorities---we just don't have the demographics. I'm too old for that ---....so is everybody else.
WTF?

Hey T, if that is in fact your real name. What about the life and rights for an unborn child? Oh wait a minute you probably think an unborn child is not human. If it is not human then what is it? If you do think it is human combined with the opinion with which you have just espoused then may God help you. Oh wait a minute you probably do not believe in God. My how convenient for you.To find a point Iggy makes as salient tells me your an idiot which means that if Planned Parenthood and the rest of the Margaret Sanger crowd had gotten their way all those years ago you probably wouldn't even exist. The Darwin award for you.

T, and Ignatieff,

are the people of Haiti asking for this? Isn't it arrogant for us to assume this is what they need, when in fact they're having trouble finding FOOD?

Aid means aid, not genocide.
Someone send that American packing!

Interesting closing comments from Iggy. "let's keep the ideology out of this and move forward." Yet his own position is based on his liberal ideology; claiming that only the pro-life side has formed opinions based on ideology is foolish. Any first year college student advancing that position would be soundly spanked (verbally, that is).

"We've had a pro-choice consensus in this area for a couple of generations and we want to hold it" Who is this "we" Iggy is referring to? When a country (not just the liberal crowd Iggy likes to surround himself with) has recipients of the Order of Canada turning their awards back in as a protest of Morgentaler's also receiving said award, the imaginary consensus Iggy refers to is not as broad as his statement would suggest. Again, indefensible reasoning. Sigh. What are these self-proclaimed academics coming to?

Ignatieff cares more for those who wish to kill their babies then those who wish to keep them.

Sounds about right.

He has no problem interfering in women's reproductive rights (in other countries, mind you) while telling the Harper government not to.

Sounds about right.

What a sick, sad and pathetic man.

Ignatieff is a total sellout now.

A failure at "being himself" (there's a broken promise already). Who does this guy think he's fooling? He's a fake Leftist, but, hey, a Leftist nevertheless, due to the cynical opportunism he's displaying... selling out his actual "far-right" beliefs/convictions and his intellectual integrity/credibility... just for what Peter DonOLO believes will be a better shot at 24 Sussex.

A success at being a Useful Idiot political leader.

A Puppet of the Hard Left. Much like Barry-O.

Yep. He's now nothing but a Canadian Manchurian Candidate.

The intellectual he once was... is no more. THAT man has been, well, replaced, bodysnatcher-style, or whatever analogy's apt.

It's a crying shame, actually.

Sheesh... Taking some of the most extreme left-wing positions possible, ie. A new "childcare" let-gummint-do-it-all program no matter the deficit, plus an eerily Obamacarian policy of "abortion MUST be taxpayer funded everywhere in the world" (be warned: Canadian taxpayers would, under an Iggy Libby gummint, be forced to take out a loan to finance what's logically, rationally the slaughter of human beings).

Now I can't tell the difference between Iggy and Obama. Both as fiscally reckless and ideologically ultra-extreme as Leftists can get. Of course, Obama's got a better tan...

Note to Mr. Harper and to Conservative tacticians, strategists and communications professionals: Make a big stink over Iggy's apparent selling-out and disingenuousness. In if for himself? Foregone conclusion. Being a puppet of the Hard-Left Man Behind the Curtain? Time to tell the People about that apparent reality.

Once again the Liberals have handed a gift to the Conservatives. What they do with it will determine whether the Conservatives can use it to help the Voters see Iggy and the Libs for what they are: Dangerous Extreme-Leftwing radical revolutionaries who will Obamize Canada.

Use this and every other inconvenient truth about the Iggy Libbies, and don't do what McCain did (ie. don't pretend that being nice is something that will be reciprocated, for Leftists are not going to be nice when they see an opportunity to sucker-punch you).

Play their cards right, the Conservatives will be able to keep the Liberals where they rightly belong: Down, and unable to get up. Just remember: Don't try to be "Mr. Nice Guy", because we know it doesn't work when dealing with the Hard Left. In short, keep on subtly bullying the bullies.

U:

In short T why do Liberals care so little about Canada's children?

Because when you get right down to it, liberals and socialists celebrate death, not life. They're all for abortion, euthanasia, and helping junkies kill themselves. They want to disarm the honest citizens so that it's easier for muggers to kill them. They insist that you only have a right to timely health care if you're independently wealthy. Dr. Fruitfly wants to see the population reduced by over 4 billion, which makes him the greatest proponent of mass death ever. The greenies want to seriously reduce our standards of living and our pursuit of happiness with bogus AGW fears. Lefties generally don't believe in God or religion. Virtually every policy they have has death or destruction of the family unit as its ultimate if unacknowledged goal (well, except the ones that provide nice sinecures for them, like Women's studies programs).

Makes it so much easier to understand lefties now, doesn't it?

Liberal Iffy's abortion trial balloon = L. E. A. D.

The O'Reilly Factor the other day had a segment called "Criminal Christians" about a dad facing criminal time of up to 6 mo.'s for taking his kid into a Catholic church (and breaking a term of a custody agreement).

I think unfortunately that having Christian values IS PROGRESSIVELY becoming more criminal every day. The ultimate battle of good vs. evil is raging everyday in ROE v. Wade. It's affecting how societies and their governments value human life and the rights of the individual.

The current story about the "criminal christian" child trafficking of 100 kids across the Haitian border points an accusing crooked finger directly at a group of christian missionaries taking very sick dehydrated orphans out of a desperate situation to save lives. The underlying message is if the missionaries would have just stayed put and let "nature" take its course on the sickest of the kids that would have been better. "Mercy" is a word not found in the Progressive dictionary.

Iggy appears to be releasing a chapter of the waffle manifesto to the media daily, what's the NDP/Lib coaltion's policy on our seniors? Death Panels perhaps? No more rationed waiting lists they'll set up kiosks in the mall where one can go and end it all for 49.99?

Iggy Iggy Iggy.

first we take all the Haitian children then we kill all the unborn.

T - the only ones "concerned with women's reproductive health" (translate - severely restricting and influencing a women's choice to reproduce) in the poorest nations are the elitists - the women have no problem with being or getting pregnant. T- Do you believe your mother should have been counselled to terminate her pregnancy with you?

Henry Morgentaler was sent to Canada by Russian NKVD(KGB) with a mission to eliminate as many potential enemies of communism as he could.
If you think that i am kidding just Google name of Henia Reinhartz and title of her Memoirs: "Bits and Pieces". Henia Reinhartz is Henry Morgentaler's ex-sister-in law and her Memual is posted on the Internet.
On page 58 you will find Henia's picture taking part in pro communist demonstration in Brussels, Belgium in 1948 and right below it picture of Henia and her friends at communist training camp also in Brussels in 1948. On page 60 you will find side by side undated picture of NKVD(KGB) agent named Bono Wiener still in Poland helping Russians to lure Polish Jews to work for NKVD (KGB) and next to it picture of Henia's sister Chava Rosenfarb, who until summer of 1947 was living in Poland with Bono Wiener and was helping him lure Polish Jews to work for NKVD (KGB), with her husband Henry Morgentaler. BTW Chava divorced Morgentaler and married Bono Wiener later in life.

So, if one were to ask how pennyless Henry Morgentaler who arrived in Canada in 1950 with his pregnant wife in tow was abile to afford his studies of medicine at the University of Montreal, the answer to that question is very simple NKVD(KGB) had deep pockets.

T blathered:
"Conservatives such as Valicott and Trost continually want to undermine the exceptional work that organizations such as Planned Parenthood do and want to inculcate and impose their values and so-called morals on every woman with an unwanted pregnancy. It is time they extricated themselves from the dark ages."

Actually, abortion and other forms of infanticide were quite common during the dark ages. Until the present time, a society that outlawed the killing of it's children was always seen as progressive.

And a friendly tip: Placing the words "so called" in front of another word does not invalidate that word. Their morals are in fact morals. They are "so called" because ... well ... that is what they are called. This technique (along with the generous use of scare quotes) so loved by the lefty kool-aid drinkers either indicates the lack of a cogent argument, intellectual laziness, or both.

"T blathered:
"Conservatives such as Valicott and Trost continually want to undermine the exceptional work that organizations such as Planned Parenthood do and want to inculcate and impose their values and so-called morals on every woman with an unwanted pregnancy. It is time they extricated themselves from the dark ages."

"Blathered" is an accurate description.

Let's look at reality, painful as it may be to some.

Vellacott won his riding by more than 10,000 votes. Trost won by almost 9,000. Apparently these men aren't the neanderthals that certain lefties make them out to be. Either that or the voters in these constituencies also need to "extricate themselves from the dark ages."

Which do you think it is?

Read the comments here, then read Iggy's statement. Does he even understand English? Like...the meaning of the word "consensus"?

T: "...undermine the exceptional work that organizations such as Planned Parenthood do..."

Planned Parenthood -- snort! Yes, truly "exceptional work" founded on eugenics, still practised today.

Iggy: "This is the last place to start playing politics here and ideology here."

Exactly! So shut the $%#^ up, Iggy!

"are the people of Haiti asking for this?"

Nope, sounds like attempted genocide to me.

This is obviously Iggy planting the "hidden agenda" seed for future cultivation; it's politics. Personally, I believe the Conservatives will continue to govern as a defacto majority for the foreseeable future. Regardless of what the spot polls say, I've yet to see anything that leads me to believe the Liberals/Dippers/Bloc desire, or are prepared for an election. I suspect that 2010 will be the year the Conservatives put the peddle to the metal and really piss-off the opposition.

Putting the AGW issue aside(because it's settled), the Conservatives will move on common sense conservative initiatives that will be very difficult to stand against publicly. The key is not to provide the opposition with any traction in the form of a “poison pill” . Simple common sense policy, like punishing criminals and not protecting them, and a strong fiscally conservative message moving forward(see the forthcoming budget) will be close to politically impossible to oppose with any vigour . I suggest discipline. No “poison pill”, no political cover for the opposition. If the opposition wishes to protect and release criminals and pedophiles backed-up by the social scientists, then so be it. If the opposition believes we must go further into deficit for fiscal security, then so be it. Make them state their position and defend it.

Barring any mistakes and or punitive policy, the opposition cannot do anything but gripe. This is our time! Lets not squander this opportunity to move right with 100% political cover... then lets talk about a majority. JMO

I'm going to take this as a positive development for conservatives in Canada, Kate. It's been looking a bit bleak lately for the Government.

Ignatieff has just brought out the national day care plank again. Doesn't know how he'll pay for it, but, it's job one for his Government.

He supports cap and trade (read green shaft).

Now he's dragged out the abortion card, although I suspect he may have been forced to do so by Important People in his party. His comments are definitely intended for Canadian ears. Others have pointed out that abortion in most third world countries, including Haiti, is seen as morally and legally repugnant.

Harper is been on record many times. Any government he leads will not get involved in any way in the abortion issue.

The Libs are bringing back the same old platform that Canadians have rejected several times.

Things are looking up.

Well, paying for it is easy! Just kill off the unborn and all your problems with paying for daycare are over.

Iggy wants to debate this, he can do so with the rest of the opposition.
Of course one sided debates have this habit of turning into an echo chamber, with each advocate of the same side trying to out voice the others.
But to really get at the problem Iggy keeps having, he seems to reach out to the third rail, and eventually he takes a position he either waters down or outright abandons in about a week or two, having had to think real long and hard about what he meant to say.
i.e.: war crimes
Now he's decided he'll bring out an old liberal tactic, expecting the conservatives to react in one particular fashion.
Hate to break it to him, but those ridings that are still held by what you would call blu-liberals, aren't going to feel too secure with Iggy making like the second coming of Morgentaller.
The other side of his rhetoric that was revealing was when reminded that he's the only one make an issue out of this, he had to explain himself..again.

Closing this post up, let me state.
There was this bunch of guys last century that thought the best way to get their country back on track was if the "others" didn't breed so many kids. They had the audacity to refer to this "consensus" as the science of eugenics.
So tell me do.
Is there a difference between, having a storefront operation that treats pregnacy as problem, another that allows drug addicts to shoot up on poison, and a house of prostitution?
Or is it really just the rate by which the customers die off.

Last but not least...in a reference to an old post.
If the liberals have their way, 20 years from now a politician will be speaking before a crowd brandishing two pieces of plastic declaring that they will never allow American style two tier child care in Canada.
