Define "reader tip" as it is highly subjective.

Also, there seems to be a strong demand for an "open blog mike", "blogadio" or "bloggeraoke" judging by the type and amount of comments posted on SDA Late Night Radio. After all, back in the day, friends or mere acquaintances sharing a common space, while listening to the radio, would discuss the topics of the day which often led to other discussions-they would not just focus on the music or radio program, although it was "instrumental" in bringing the group together, and, most assuredly appreciated, enjoyable, and often educational material that certainly supurred or initiated many disscussions; it simply was not the entire focus of the gathering.

What people share during a karoke sessions is usually consists of rather different material - such as how funny or ridculously bad or amazingly well the last person sang. Any topics introduced, via comments with or without links included for others to check out on their own, in this type of a forum or format will utlitmately be ignored by others if thier comments or reading suggestions/links are not of interest or provoking anyway.

Just a thought/suggestion.

No-One, your suggestion seems quite timely. It would address the current embargo on the most significant news of the moment, as enforced by the overnight censor.

I agree, No-One, personally I'd love to get into long philosophical debates about whatever suits my fancy. But Kate has said over and over that SDA isn't a debating society, it's not a chat room, and we are to stay on topic. And the topic here is Reader Tips, which generally means links to things that you would otherwise post in some other thread, perhaps with an "off topic" proviso. This is the place for posting those reader tips.

And look, up to a point, it is what you suggest too. Nevertheless, the discussion here has been going farther and farther astray from the topic lately, so I need to push it back in line a bit. I'm sure things will return to normal (that is, pre-astray) once this delta damps out. In the interim, study the 11:41 supra by BATB ~ that's the way to do it, you see ~ having provided us with a reader tip, namely that the Americans prevailed over the Canadians in a hocky game, she, and now you, could comment on that ;-)

But one can't just come waltzing in here saying, for example, "I don't like Verlinde's paper". That's not a reader tip, and if no previous reader tip introduced Verlinde's paper it's not a comment on a reader tip either, so it would be off topic. Please, for the benefit of the SDA readers, put in the effort to provide a useful reader tip and some information on it. Why should people pick a random YouTube link if you just say "Check this out"? If you want to make a point, it's your job to sell it.

The real problem with the chat format is that the software here produces a full page rebuild every time a comment is posted. It eats up server resources, and causes delays for other people accessing the site.

That, and good comments that actually add to the quality of the site's content are totally drowned out in noise that nobody else reads, including me.

There are plenty of conservative forums out there to chatter on, this just isn't one of them.

batb - not good news at all, but on the upside a Canada win is sure to cause a riot on Robson Street - Hockey does that to otherwise law abiding Canadians.

What this country needs is a good revolution from the sheeple.

We live in the best country in the world, Justthinkin, and you want a revolution? I think not. It is perfectly adequate for us to work on the continued evolution of the existing system. Although, maybe it's just me, but I think the best of what we have should be: conserved. Tens of thousands of years of political evolution, standing on the shoulders of giants, and you want to throw it all away just because you're impatient. What a silly idea.

There were three of the original Reformers who didn't rush squealing into the golden trough: Werner Schmidt, Lee Morrison and Preston Manning. Mind you, Manning had an "edge" because, before Chretien made his famous offer that "couldn't" be refused the Reform Party had set him up with some nice RRSPs.

The most disgusting fall from grace was by Deborah Grey, who built her political career on her refusal of the pension and her derisive scorn for all those who stuck to their "entitlement". When an annual take of $75,000 at age 55 was dangled in front of her snout, she made the lame excuse that, after learning of Manning's bout with prostrate cancer, she became aware of her own mortality. Huh? Does she plan to take it with her? Does she have a prostate? Who knew?

Here is an excellent speech by George Will, courtesy of NRO.

In his weekly columns, Will's syntax is occasionally twisted and awkward and his content is sometimes thin, a consequence, I think, of having to produce text on a weekly basis. In this speech before CPAC, however, he is in top form and crystallizes, for me at least, a conservative's approach to life and to government.

At the risk of coming off as an insufferable slithering suck-up - and even worse, being off topic and wasting bandwidth - Vitruvius is an excellent DJ. I really mean excellent. Irreplaceable. If some people find him short-tempered, well, you know what they say about channels you don't like...

I think anyone bashing him on this thread is just annoyed about the whole "don't treat this as a chat-room and please stay on-topic" thing - (and I know I've been as guilty as anyone in that department) - and isn't willing to take it up with the lady who sets the rules.
