There's a terrible lesson in Breitbart's address for Canadians. In many ways we are much farther down the road toward totalitarianism than the US. Using the Trudeau Charter, the Human "Rights" Acts and media domination, the politico-bureaucratic and NGO Establishment have emasculated speech and dissent in this country. The way Stephen Harper has been demonised, his policies---real or suspected---distorted, and been subjected to a Narrative ("mean, churlish, partisan (!), devious, and all the other words Don Martin can think of) amply illustrates how far we have gone toward the precipice.
The first person who posts a woe-is-me, all-is-lost to the socialist utopians should watch this video.
Name-calling has temporarily given the left a technique. Unless we call BS, it will continue to be effective.
Fiscal conservatism is what will win the day on both sides of the border. Of course, the left will try to muddy the water with social issues. Don't fall for it ever again and get rid of your defeatist attitude.
"That my friends is not CBC bias. It's contempt for the Canadian people."
CBC . . . a cesspit of socialist progressive wannbe's who believe they are entitled to have a life long lip lock on the public teat, who idolize to mass murdering dictators like Castro, who have a drawer full of various Che T shirts and actually believe Pierre Trudeau improved Canada.
The flavour of it: It's not that my ideas aren't unassailable, it's just that I've failed to explain it clearly [read: Americans are stupid]. Maybe if I speak more slowly?
the problem with the media is that they control the definitions of the words that they use, and they only report the stories according to the definitions of those meanings.
Case in point. The CBC went from using the term "suicide bomber" to "freedom fighter". The actual word by definition is that they were "homicide bombers". If you are a suicide bomber, you blow yourself up with a bomb. Nobody else gets hurt. Period. But, that was still too harsh a word and didn't represent the view of the mother*#*@#@$@ship, they viewed them as "freedom fighters". The murderers are terrorist, but the words they use and the definitions of those words are what they control.
We need to take back the words and give them there rightful place and their rightful definitions, that way everyone can play by the same rules.
Here's another word which has been changed according to its original definition: the word GAY! What is the media definition which we have all been forced to adopt which has nothing to do with its original definition?!!!
Hey when Fox was exposed as knowingly cutting together an unrelated video to make the Tea Party gathering look bigger, my friends, that was media bias, my friends, and it was contempt for the American people -- and, come to think of it, contempt for the very concept of objective reportage.
glacierman....excellent example...I remember using the phrase J'em tres gai waaaayyyyyy back in grade 10....meaning I am very happy...but only the French teacher took it that way....everybody else in class laughed and called me a fag...although my wife may disagree...so what's next?....melting glaciers actually means they are not?...oh wait.
Well that cheered me up, we have the reigns to the dog and pony show called MSM. Can MSM afford to lose an entire demograpic, no but that's what is happening in the US. We in Canada should do the self same thing and not buy their papers, read their online additions shun them until their clients start abandoning them.
When FOX puts up the numbers it does, when FOX's ratings go up while all the other MSM and cable news numbers go down, it shows who the public trusts.
O'Reilly blew apart the criticism of FOX when Jon Stewart said people did not know FOX was not a news network. After making the point that newspapers have news pages and opinion pages and that show like his were opinion shows, O'Reilly asked Stewart a good question.
“Do you think people watching you know it's a comedy show?" O'Reilly asked.
So tell me,marquis. How come you can come to this conservative blog, and say what you want(free speech),and not get banned, yet,I get banned from so called free speech sites like Huff and Kos etc?

And further, marquis,Kate could have probably banned me many times from SDA,but guess what? She let's me,AND you spout off.Ahhhhhh....there's that free speech thingie again.

Me No Dhimmi, thanks for posting the link to the Krauthammer article. I enjoy his commentary, both written and on the boob tube, very much.
I found this comment interesting:

It reminded me distinctly of the Chretien pronouncement of "da Canadian value" some 10-odd years ago, and the inherent conceit that Liberal values were, by definition, the same as Canadian values.
Democrats. Liberals. America. Canada. Different parties. Different countries. Same elitist, liberal conceit.

"The way Stephen Harper has been demonised, his policies---real or suspected---distorted"
What are u on?.. Harper "is" the problem, he's part of a broken system. I'm glad, I didn't vote for him. I could go on and on with what's wrong but lets just look at one issue for example.
(main one that lost my vote)
Canada's Bank Bailout
The 64 billion dollar budget deficit should come as no surprise.
It is directly related to a 75 billion dollar bank bailout program for Canada's chartered banks, announced, virtually unnoticed, four days before the October Federal election.
Keep in mind Canadian chartered banks have never been in financial Difficulty, and are now making billions in profits.
here's some info on it if you like
I know of a Canadian Cabinet Minister who was at a meeting and a gentleman came up to him and introduced himself. No big deal!
But, this guy says to the cab-min that he used to work in the editing room of the CBC. He then proceeded to tell the cab-min that he had become and Christian and he came to ask forgiveness for what he had done in the editing room. Cab-min was curious, but all ears.
The guy said that he was asked, then told, then threatened with his employment by his boss to cut and splice the sound and video from the footage shot at an event. He was forced to completely twist the words and intent of what the cab-min had said during the speech into the exact opposite of what he was trying to say. The cab-min knew exactly the footage which he was talking about, but was now unable to defend himself against. Time to have the public cameras being filmed by private cameras and catch these foxes in the act. Can anyone remember the Vancouver airport/Robert Dziekansk affair?
If you are so naive as to think that there are no agendas and corruption at the CBC and other MSM's then you have either just come out of a cave or are a perp in the master plan of these socialist elites.
Peter, you're not the first to flog the "Canadian Bank Bailout" myth. Point of fact: Canadian banks were not bailed out. Allow me to set the record straight for you.
Recall, in the fall of 2008 there was a serious liquidity crunch in the wake of the Lehman Brothers failure. Banks everywhere, including those "too big to fail", suddenly became very bad lending risks. As a result, interbank lending, a significant source of capital for banks around the world, ground virtually to a halt.
As a result, solvent and well-capitalized Canadian banks found it nearly impossible to raise capital. What capital it was able to secure was very expensive (refer to the LIBOR rates in the Bank of Canada October 2008 monetary report here: www.bankofcanada.ca/en/mpr/pdf/mpr231008.pdf . Specifically, refer to chart 11 on page 18, as well as the commentary on Canadian credit conditions on page 20).
The Canadian government, realized that banks needed capital in order to continue business-as-usual lending to small business and consumers. It therefore set up a program to purchase CMHC-insured mortgages from the Canadian Banks.
Do you see the difference between what I've described, and your "bailout" moniker? Bailout would suggest that the Canadian banks were in imminent danger of failing, which you correctly point out was not the case. The Canadian government purchased income-producing, high-quality, low-risk, CHMC-insured mortgages. The banks, in turn, secured much-needed capital during a time of a serious global liquidity crunch. When the dust settles on the program, I'm quite certain it will show that the government turned a tidy profit on the transactions. However, had these market transactions not been implemented, the Canadian banks would have survived just fine, although they would have had implemented serious constraints in their lending practices due to limited available capital. THIS is what the Canadian government wanted to avoid.
We can have an honest discussion, and even disagreement, on whether this was a prudent, wise, or effective course of action. I happen to think it was all three, given the unusual circumstances of the time. But to describe the transactions as a bailout is a gross distortion in the extreme.
Peter those were CMHC mortgages. They were insured. What they did was buy mortgages they had insured to clear the liability from the banks. CMHC was on the hook for the insurance anyway. It freed up capital. No money was lost. Remember Canadians needed a larger downpayment and tend to build equity in their homes. There is a higher recovery of bad debt.
Set you free - Fiscal Conservatives will do nothing without social conservatives and that means there must be a meeting of minds. That said, social conservatives tend, I think to be fiscal conservatives, unfortunately the reverse is not true.
Did MSNBC -- and Brewer specifically -- ever offer a retraction and/or issue an apology to the rally organizers? Perhaps more knowledgeable people on this subject can inform me. I did a quick Google search of the relevant terms but never saw any links to MSNBC.
If there was no retraction and apology, what's MSNBC's excuse? She never said what she did? The guy wasn't black? The blogosphere faked a video that made her look as if she had said it? Wher's the accountabiilty?
Seems to me they have a CBC-like policy: if we don't report it, it never happened.
Breitbart is a smart man. He like Kate & Mark, Ezra & many others are leading the way back to Democracy in North America against the Marxists. It behooves us to follow their example.
Speak to family , friends or even co-workers. Let our politicians know we don't like the Media or the Insanity of current world delusions.
Let them see how our Natural rights are being subjected by an Alien elite. Completely unplugged from the realities of life. Through years of featherbedding with entitlements where they think their infallible.

glacierman writes: "Time to have the public cameras being filmed by private cameras and catch these foxes in the act."
They don't just pick on Cabinet ministers. Having written whatever story they are working on, reporters use their sources to give the story colour or credibility. Watching an interview that I had given to the local CBC, I saw that they had taken three clips of my responses and paired them with three questions they hadn't asked me. The result was a substantial distortion of what I'd said.
I'm going to duck when I say the CBC is by far the best media in New Brunswick. All the other media is owned by the even more Liberal loving than the CBC, Irving owned Brunswick News, which is ably assisting in the current heist of NB Power.
The Irvings own all the English newspapers and radio stations.(Rogers recently opened a radio station. There are no TV stations). Imagine the CBC as the only opposition to the governing Liberal Party and you understand the fun of being a Conservative in NB. ( 6 of 10 MPs currently Conservative.)
You don't have to leave the country to get 3rd world governance.
Heck, read a lot of the posts on that site. The effect of this policy is that Canada's housing market is dangerously bubbling and Canadian homeowners are increasingly in debt. We're setting ourselves up for a housing crash much like the Americans went through. Hell, Vancouver's RE market isn't just a bubble, it's a Hindenburg waiting to blow.
If you really want the CBC to be fixed, here's how.
Don't ask for it to be closed down, or purged, or sold.
Just ask, why.
Why after decades, does a national broadcaster that competes with other national broadcasters need access to public funding?
If they cannot make it in a competative market, their mandate needs to be changed so that they only offer content that the competative market does not. Conversely they (the CBC) need to stay out of those areas the competative broadcasters are in (commercialized content or that content advertizers will pay ad time for). The argument of course is that opinion shows would be viable commercial content, and therefore CBC would be banned from having it, or stop taking the subsidy so they can air it.
If the CBC wants to compete, they should do so under the same conditions that a private broadcaster is forced to.
So why, after these many years can they not compete, if they are as good as they say they are?

Set you free - Fiscal Conservatives will do nothing without social conservatives and that means there must be a meeting of minds. That said, social conservatives tend, I think to be fiscal conservatives, unfortunately the reverse is not true.

Nonetheless, pockebook issues will win the day. The other stuff is irrelevant and the utopians can manage to twist the narrative to their advantage.

I'm 67 years old and that phrase has been around as long as I can remember.
"There is nothing new under the sun."
(Ecclesiastes, I believe.)
glacierman writes: "Time to have the public cameras being filmed by private cameras and catch these foxes in the act."
You think you have it bad.
To the folks talking about CMHC and whether it was good policy for it to start buying up mortgages: read this blog post:
http://americacanada.blogspot.com/2009/07/cmhc-and-our-government.html
