Never Trust a Socialist when it comes to Your Money (Tax's)
**And speaking of The Ghost of Chretian
anyone also notice that Last nite on the CTV National Loyd was appologizing to Chretian for saying the prior nite that he had gone to the States for a medical procedure! They had apparently got their facts wrong & This of course was during the Fife segment on the PM not going to let Parliment take a break..
The Liberals said that they would replace the GST with another "fairer"(read progressive) tax, but found that they just couldn't beat the fact that businesses collected it for the government and so they left it in place.
say what! Lloyd apologized to Chretien....did Chretien not do what Ezra indicated. I have no idea who is correct in this....if Ezra is it is an unexploded bombshell, if ezra is wrong then he has some explaining to do.
What is the most stimulating set up for economy, ensuring that federal responsibilities of defense and law enforcement are funded adequately?

Lower all areas of taxation, even temporarily eliminating some, and make up the government revenue shortfall through borrowing, gradually bringing the taxation back after the economy recovers and shows that it is robust.
Of course large areas of the welfare state should be cut too, to decrease expenditures when government revenues are dependent on borrowing.
In the light of the federal deficit only exaggerated by coming economic difficulties, it is only a matter of time when the government will increase taxes - never mind Liberal or Conservative. The only alternative would be to reduce or eliminate transfers where the choice could look like this: health care or Indian affairs. No politician in Canada is able to make a decision like this, They will protect the government and it's institutions. It will be you that will be making choices and sacrifices.
It may be only anecdotal, however what I hear from people I know, CRA already cranked-up auditing (annoying) of small business. I guess, that must be what Conservatives mean by efficient government.
Say,didn't the patriot Sheila Copps resign her seat in Hamilton, her Daddy's town, and run AGAIN to apologize for not dropping the GST?
The Liberals promised to replace the GST with a more fair and equitable tax, so it's hard to understand why they didn't. They could have tweaked the new tax to get the same amount out of taxpayers, and poor Sheila wouldn't have had to go through the trauma of resigning her seat.
They should have called it "The Reform Tax", and let the sheeple of Eastern Canada equate Preston Manning with the damned thing.
Chretien could have thought up a good reason to call it that.
You either eliminate all personal and corporate income taxes and have a 10% GST that is non refundable on ALL goods and services.
Or you eliminate all consumer taxes and have a 20% personal income tax and 10% corporate income tax with $12000 personal exemption. No tax shelters or deductions except personal pension plans.

I have had a look at the CTV replay segments(ctv.ca National) Re: Chretian Stateside for treatment
These have been edited out, Both where loyd mentions this in the Tuesday Nite broadcast(Danny Williams) & the apology on Wed Nite broadcast with Fife.
One thing though I did not see the 11'oclock versions at the time, this was the NewsNet 10'oclock broadcast's, So Ample time to get the correction made for 11 Or to recieve a call from a lawyer!! get my drift And the replay shown on ctv.ca is the 11'oclock recast.
Btw one more thing on the subject of Chretian & In light of other charges & court actions One's that have happened since the Gomery Inquiry.
Its time another Inquiry is called on the Adscam BS. Time for the Govt to get to the bottom of this.
Chretien said after he won the election he didn't say he would get rid of the GST in spite of video proving he did say it. Also, Sheila Copps believed him, ran on it and won her riding. Chretien's lie forced her to contest her seat on principle without the promise of scrapping the GST.
I'd put this Chretien lie down as one of the biggest in our political history because it was so hated, everyone was talking about it and believed he was getting rid of it.
The bottom line is that anybody that is not on the public teat who believes one word out of any politicians mouth should be hospitalized as they are insane. You believe psychos? It's true as someone said, the life of ease we now live has made a nation of pussies. Our granparents are spinning in their graves.
NP article predicts 1.1 million Ontarians unemployed in the next few years.
If outsourcing will be going at today's rate, I am afraid there will be 100% unemployment, as service industry will have no one to offer their services to, unless of course the government will use OPP to force labor 50%.
Gee Liberals Lie! Who saw that coming? Can we avoid belaboring the obvious and just get on with the task of eliminating them from the political landscape?
personally I prefer sales taxes for several reasons; less distortion in the economy from the tax advantages of certain sources of income and spending as with an income tax, less intrusion in personal life (no one need know your name when you pay a sales tax unlike income tax which demands your name, address, source of income, how you spend and invest, who depends on your income etc etc etc), easy to audit the collectors, and to a some degree control on how much tax I pay (if you don't buy something I don't pay the tax). Get rid of all taxes except GST, bump it up to 20% with perhaps a 2% rate on groceries, residential rents, medical services and other currently exempt goods and services.
One missing from the G&M's list is when Don Boudria got in a tussle with Senate security, shouting something to the effect of "you're not going to pass this without a fight" as the new senators were being led in to the upper chamber for the final vote. It was a laugh.
How much GST revenue was collected during the Mulroney gov't's reign? I heard that it brought in approx $14 billion in each of the first two years, while it was $30 billion in the last year of the Liberals. So 13 years... hmmmm. Had to be 1/4 of a trillion they collected over that time, wiping out any tax cuts they and MSM claim they made over their time in power, particularly the $100 billion over 5 years from the Feb 2000 budget. Any tax cut promise not deleivered on is a de facto tax increase. And there's no way the Liberals cut 1/4 of a trillion over 13 years, which in fact would just have them break even with Canadians.

Lazy Liberals.
Chretian denied it at the time as well. but Paul Martin didnt.
But let's talk of a sensible alternative.
Should there be no personal and business income tax, but tax on spending?
Or should there be no tax on spending, and no corporate income tax, but only personal income tax?
What is the most stimulating set up for economy, ensuring that federal responsibilities of defense and law enforcement are funded adequately?

Is that supposed to be Chretien? A lousy artist spoils the effect.
