'Although there remains a mountain of research from multiple institutions about the reality of climate change' stinks, just stinks, the target audience must be the brain dead.

I have one burning question.

How will we know when we have defeated climate change?

This man is a relentlessly stupid bottom-feeding hypocrite and bloodsucking asstard. did he actually earn the money to buy that bloated mansion writing sophomoric drivel like this? Incredible...

"Just drill baby drill" - reminded me of a wonderful comment over at that great article on "post-normal science":

"Resistance to oppression begins by questioning the constant use of buzzwords."

Amen!

The only "weirding" going here is Thomas Friedman's blatant disregard for the reality of what is happening in the science, the empirical data, failing Alternative Energy Systems and public opinion around Global Weirding (that just seems stupid to say) lets stay with AGW.

Damn if the USA would just be like Chinese Communists, right Tom? Except that whole shoot the intellectuals part... hmmm a redeeming part of communism? (jk)

"UN Climocrat Deserts the Sinking UNFCCC at by Claudia Rosett at Pajamas Media.

"Polar bears may be doing fine, but the climate commissars of the United Nations are feeling the heat, as their claims of scientific “consensus” melt under them. Now we have the first big UN climocrat to desert the cooling/warming/sinking ship. Yvo de Boer, head of the UN’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, has announced he will be resigning as of July 1, 2010."

H/T Instapundit.

Interesting article. I never knew China was investing heavily in clean tech, I thought they were building coal fired plants. Those sneaky Chinese!

To Michael J. Anderson. I am fairly certain that Mr. Friedman "married well" to get to live in that mansion.

He is such a moron, I have burned my copy of "The Lexus & The Olive Tree". Made a really nice plume of dense black carbon.

I feel warmer already.

Tom

This Friedman fellow must suffer from some kind of serious cognitive disorder. This line alone proves it: "The climate-science community is not blameless. It knew it was up against formidable forces..."

Give me a break. The AGW warm-mongers have been given a completely free ride from politicians and the media for the past two decades. And, putting aside for the moment that "Big Oil" has been complicit in the AGW scam for years now, any money from "Big Oil" that has funded contrarian studies is but a fart in the wind when compared to the money from Big Government to propagate this nonsense.

No don't put it aside. It seems "big oil" spent pocket change early on to both sides and ended dropping major coin to support the hoax---as they ramped up to profit from the Carbon Credit extortion.
One of the biggest lies was that Big Oil was funding the "sceptics/deniers". Most major sceptics such as Chricton/Avery/Moncton did it on their own coin---against Warmists funded by billions of taxpayer $$$$.
While the hard cash is possible to audit---soft funding by supporting bureaucrats in GISS, NOAA, CRU, Met office.... even Enviro-Canada is impossible to calculate.

To: Michael J. Anderson and Tom

Pay more attention boys. The quaint little house, without any solar panels or wind turbines, is the home of Al Gore.

"What’s real? In my view, the climate-science community should convene its top experts — from places like NASA, America’s national laboratories, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, the California Institute of Technology and the U.K. Met Office Hadley Centre — and produce a simple 50-page report. They could call it “What We Know,” summarizing everything we already know about climate change in language that a sixth grader could understand, with unimpeachable peer-reviewed footnotes."

Friedman's a "beer and popcorn" type elitist,I see. Get that last sentence,"unimpeachable peer-reviewed "!

Where in Hell does he think they're going to get THAT! Is he oblivious to the fact that dishonesty in peer review IS the problem?

Like I said in another post, the war on AGW is NOT over, we haven't won.

This is like the "Phony War"of 1939 and early 1940, war had been declared by Britain and France, but no one, save the Poles, had fired a shot, YET!

These bastards are waiting for the skepticism to die down, then they'll be right back at it attacking our flanks with a sweep through Belgium, nailing us with a Blitzkreig that will have us deniers reeling in defeat.

Hope enough of us survive our upcoming "Dunkirk" to carry on the battle.

"The hots are expected to get hotter, the wets wetter, the dries drier and the most violent storms more numerous."

So are the middle temperatures going to get more middler?

You're right dmorris, I said on another thread that I did a little litmus test with my wife and she is completely clueless to the recent events in the debate. Clueless to all of it, except she’s noticed quite a bit of ridicule towards the AGW theory lately.

Colin

I'm sure they've just moved into the "I'm a victim" stage of their plan. Soon it will be a human right to believe in AGW.

Friedman's a massive tool, on an epic scale. I'm glad that us lefty moonbats and you right wing nutbars can meet on this common ground.

When did weather become a left/right issue?

This is about the nature of science. Is it a search for proveable truths or is it political science, consensus by persuasion?

AGW (last two stand for Global Warming) is quite obviously political science.

Obviously he only reads his and Suzuki's drivel.

This guy is so massively ignorant, it "sorta stagnates the imagination", as Pogo once said.

Never mind the massive fraud and log rolling in the IPCC and the UK Met office; this buffoon actually believes that rain in Vancouver in the winter is not normal. I've been to Whistler three times, and every time, it has rained at the bottom of the mountain, while snowing at the top. There's nothing "weird" about it.

"you really wonder if we can have a serious discussion about the climate-energy issue anymore. "

Well it was the believer who didn't want to have a serious discussion about climate change because they said the science was settled and there was nothing to discuss. Perhaps not counting how much of our money and freedom we were to give up.

Now that we all know the science was fraudulent and that there is no no man made warming, they want to talk. Well there is nothing to talk about other than perhaps some jail sentences handed out to the frauds behind the science.

Please, please, please bring on the 50 page report. Give it your best shot, so that we can honestly see what all the fuss is about.
And please call it Global-Weirding. I love that. It suits morons like Friedman to a tee.

Weather isn't a "left/right issue", but money sucking socialist plots are.

in answer to Tom Freidman's house. No, we can't .

Because as Kate has pointed out in her own unique sarcastic wit, you really can't have any 2 way conversation with an elitist. The climate change crisis gives us the right to impose our will and world view upon the unwashed masses cult, never debate. Their narrow gage, one track minds are made up. They pontificate not debate and this screed about objective reality denial is just more elitist pontificating - selling more quackery which the author obviously isn't willing to have challenged in debate.

I suppose this arrogant twit missed the fact that the most scandalous part of AGW quack science was the concerted effort to silence and damage critics who wanted to debate the findings.

Friedman thinks rain in Vancouver in the winter is unusual !? So wierd ?

There was one solid fact right at the end of Friedman's screed. "Maureen Dowd is off today"

Friedman's wife, Ann, is a graduate of Stanford University and the London School of Economics.[3] Her father, Matthew Bucksbaum, was the chairman of the board of General Growth Properties, a real estate development group.[4] As of 2007, Forbes estimated the Bucksbaum family's assets at $4.1 billion, including about 18.6 million square meters of mall space, but the firm's value later plummeted.[5][6] The family's trust declined in value from $3.6 billion to $25 million.[7] On April 16, 2009, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, after failing to reach a deal with its creditors.[8] The GGP collapse marked the largest real estate bankruptcy in U.S. history.[9]
Ann and Thomas Friedman live in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. The July 2006 issue of Washingtonian reported that they own "a palatial 11,400-square-foot (1,060 m2) house, currently valued at $9.3 million, on a 7½-acre parcel just blocks from I-495 and Bethesda Country Club." Friedman is paid $50,000 per speaking engagement.[7]

People, please ... it's Gorebull warming.

What I like about this is the NY Slimes is still burning column inches and credibility printing Freidman's noise. Thereby hastening the day when their total effect on world affairs will be as fish wrapping and bird-cage lining.

Rage on, Tommy!

I like your new name for the climate hoax Jeff Bauer - may i add to it to make it an oriental dish: Gorebull warming in Mo Stlong katskilla crap.

Tom Friedman's bath house is the size of an average middle class home. Who's this dude kidding?
No credibility at all.

Is that Al Gore's house at 314 Lynnwood Blvd, Nashville?

I just don't read anything by Friedman.*

And that' easy to do because his column appears in the New York Times.

* I don't read anything by Rick Salutin either. His columns are just soporific sludge.

what is clear, at this juncture, is that capt. friedman has made a decision to go down with the ship.

Method to perpetrate a fraud on the sheeple.

Get university professors to report professionally whatever your cause needs to the press and broadcast media like the CBC.

Payment gets you just the right slant.

Then, as none of us, the sheeple, are qualified to test professorial reports, your fraud is launched and on its way.

That works on a smaller local scale too.

Local politicos who own grand homes, [ with fireplaces], on the bluffs above our local ocean-front tried to kill our freedom to roast marshmellows in steel fire rings on Goose Spit in Comox.

They enlisted Professor's crapola gobbledegook in their website to ban us from hotdog roasting.

Can you spot the the fraud?; the gall? the dictatorship?

Ooops! Too late. The embarrassing report summary has vanished with a mild PC 'update in its place.

Fortunately: I snapped a bit of the text two days ago.

''A year-long air quality monitoring project by the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) and the University of Victoria showed that while the air quality in the Comox Valley isn’t bad, there are areas of concern in terms of particulate matter generated by fires, and at certain times, Goose Spit is one of them.

The CVRD will be asking the area’s medical health officer to attend a future electoral area services committee to discuss air quality and the effects wood burning can have. '' [/Quote]

"" Air quality in the Comox Valley isn't bad. ""

Isn't bad?? It's the cleanest on Vancouver Island!!

Mansion owners with personal fireplaces jamming a campfire ban down our throats!

Returning from a visit Feb 14th from Campbell River, we noticed kids and parents enjoying small beach fires all along many miles of beach strip. They have decent local politicians.

An author of the report protested in a later editorial..

As on of the authors of the report = Monitoring of Fine Particulate Matter [PM2.5], in the Comox Valley Regional District, BC, I must take exception to the way our report was characterized in your publication ...
