How would you like your toast Mr. President?
As I posted on Readers Tips, perhaps too late to be read, the latest unreported widely horror by Obama:
Obama: 'She insisted she's going to be buried in an Obama t-shirt'
Yes, those are the words of the president, last night at the Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Washington. After listing his administration's accomplishments and vowing that "our most urgent task is job creation," Obama pledged to keep fighting for a national health care system. "We knew this was hard," Obama said. And then he described a letter he received from a campaign worker who suffered from breast cancer and has since died:
I got a letter -- I got a note today from one of my staff -- they forwarded it to me -- from a woman in St. Louis who had been part of our campaign, very active, who had passed away from breast cancer. She didn't have insurance. She couldn't afford it, so she had put off having the kind of exams that she needed. And she had fought a tough battle for four years. All through the campaign she was fighting it, but finally she succumbed to it. And she insisted she's going to be buried in an Obama t-shirt.
Many observers have noted that the president often seems extraordinarily self-referential. It's all about him, they say. But even those critics might be a little taken aback by the "buried in an Obama t-shirt" remark. Is it really that much about him?
Others ask how some of Obama's statements would have been covered had George W. Bush made them -- for example, if Bush had pronounced "corpsman" as "corpse-man" (as Obama did twice at the National Prayer Breakfast). Had Bush mispronounced the word so badly -- and he did say some weird things -- it's likely many commentators would have rushed to fit it into their Bush-is-stupid narrative. Now, it's Obama who's sounding strange. And even putting aside the "corpsman" gaffe, what does the president's telling of the "buried in an Obama t-shirt" anecdote tell us about him? (By the way, this is not about the woman and her choice -- people do all sorts of things, and we respect the decisions they make -- but about the president's choosing to tell the story himself.)
The statement comes at 8:25 in a video. You can see that the crowd laughed after the "t-shirt" comment -- perhaps because they thought it was funny or perhaps because it made them a bit uneasy. In any event, Obama was serious.
looking glass, like Ann Coulter says, if you want to know what the left is thinking, just look at what they are accusing the right of. well, if they really want war, and if they ask for it, they just might get it.
Palin represents some interesting contrasts and refreshing frankness coming back into the public dialogue. She's not afraid to mention God in her speeches but she has avoided identifying publicly the epicenter of America's fiscal and economic woe- the federal reserve system, it's funny money creation policies and the larcenous insider cartel who run it.
Until the American people realize this private central banking cartel is the root of their economy being stagnated through needless tax slavery and an unreliable inflationary currency, generations of Americans still unborn will be born into bondage to feed the debt governments create needlessly borrowing from this unaccountable banking junta.
Until I hear Palin openly advocate an economic revolution - Audit the Fed, Indict it's criminal cartel, go to a hard currency issued by the government not a private banking junta, I'll just mark Palin down as another status quo establishment GOP stumping to resurrect that failed party's fortunes with a disillusioned red state constituency.
For the first time evah, actually watched the commie news network last night to hear Palin, and what struck me after her speech was just how scared s*&tless the socialists are of her.I guess when you start spouting facts, and asking hard quesions(how's that hopey-changey thing working),the masters are afraid that the sheeple may start asking their own questions. Can't have that now,can we.
Some of the comments at Alhouse's are great."she's in it for the money".Oh? So why say,on the DemoRat network, that she was going to immediately give the check back for her speech?Oh wait.Giving back money? Not in the socialists lexicon.
I don't have any trouble with her as a lightening rod and as one voice (of many) for American conservatism. Same with Rush. Same with Beck. They are importance voices that push forward a true conservative agenda of smaller less invasive government.
But, I have HUUUGE issues with her as a presidential candidate.
We don't need "everyday people" running the US. We need the best, brightest, most thoughtful, best educated, and experienced. And YES, we need for them to be Reagan-like conservative statesmen.
Just as Obama was not qualified to be Prez, neither is Palin. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Where is the next great and unifying American conservative statesman? Palin is not that person.
and there's a good chance in actuality, the opposite will be the case.
Man made global warming anyone?
Right now the media also seems to be writing off Harper because he's neck and neck in the polls (though they never dare to mention the neck and nect tie with Dion, before voters were focused on an actual decision rather than general complaining).
Which means its probably a good time to buy Harper Majority stock on intrade.
"Which means its probably a good time to buy Harper Majority stock on intrade."
If the Liberals are going to hang their re election hopes on universal daycare the Conservatives will get a majority in the next election. There are more children than guns in Canada and if the Liberals can go over budget by 1000% on the Gun Registry how do you think they'll manage when they have to do the paperwork on living breathing children.
I can't help but wonder what John McCain thinks of Palinmania. First he thought he was a genius for bringing her on as a VP candidate then he blamed her for his defeat and joined with the masses who had great sport trying to tear her to pieces. It seems as though Palin is getting the last laugh and all that goes with it while not many even remember Johnny Mc. I don't know how Sarah would do in big politics or even how intelligent she may be but I certainly give her credit and admire her. She doesn't let anyone put her down and isn't afraid to step up or go for a goal, whatever it may be.
old Lori said: We don't need "everyday people" running the US. We need the best, brightest, most thoughtful, best educated, and experienced. And YES, we need for them to be Reagan-like conservative statesmen.
I understand your thought, I wonder if Obama is even thinking "D*** this job is hard!" However, Lori, all presidents are mere humans, and wasn't Reagan a Governor just as Palin was? I think the talent that is needed is that of a good manager, which is the skill that governing requires. Reagan was a brilliant manager. My feeling is we need a few more every day talented managers in government. I guess that's why it used to be old guys who had done something in their lives who ran for office. Now we've got 18 yr old state governor wannabees. (Huckabee last night). The Americans have discovered, I think, that it does matter who they vote for and that elections are more than just a November version of American Idol.
Palin has an absolutely unique role in American politics. This is due to her being a political and not an entertainment or media public figure.
She is the voice of the people of America. That's an astonishing role. The people of America have come together against Big Government, and that's both Democrat and Republican Big Government and are speaking out in defense of their Constitution and conservative limited government.
This movement has exploded in the one year since Obama took office. Obama and the Democrats have tried to ignore it or have smeared it with name-calling and contempt. It has continued to grow as Obama's poll numbers drop.
Importantly, Palin rejects being the leader of the Tea Party movement. She made it clear that there should be no leader; that they are not sheep; that they are, themselves, the People and that is all that is required. That is, she acknowledges - something that the Obama gang do not- that The People are the government and have the brains to be that government.
But what she is doing is articulating their concerns and outlining their aims of limited government, the free market, tax cuts, a focus on small business and an adherence to the Constitution.
All of this is said clearly, simply and, because she is a political figure, it's all on the political scene. That acts as a major confrontational force to the statist take-over agenda of the Obama Gang.
Then, besides expressing this conservative agenda, which she says anyone in any party can accept: Democrat or Republican - she is going around endorsing candidates who support these aims. Again, a powerful force.
Now, what will the statist gang of Obama do? They've tried and will probably continue the personal vilification of Palin, but this will only make them look bad. Obama is trying to seem 'personable' but his overwhelming narcissism and elitist contempt for people makes this difficult.
After all, we've heard that the White House visitor walls are now covered with pictures of Obama. Not pictures of past presidents, or great events in American history or scenes of America. Nope. Pictures of Obama, Obama, Obama.
Funniest thing I read on Althouse is a guy by the alias of AllenS chastising a troll by saying
" Alpha, I don't think Obama wants you to read blogs! "
What a great putdown on both trolls and lieberals at the same time. I hope to see that used here on SDA.
Sarah Palin's voice may be somewhat shrill, but man, can she deliver the punch lines!
As long as she's got them written down on her hands. Imagine. Cheat note talking points for her tea bagger Q&A. I'm shaking in my Birkenstocks, but it ain't from fear.
I am just gald to see conservatives standing up and speaking out and that the media finally is paying attention.
If Sarah Palin is part of getting that to happen then it is a good thing. Her popularity is actually a by product of the Liberal hatered of her, the more they attack the more she is defended because she is "just like me" and it exposes a bias that they cannot seem to restrain in regards to attacking her. Sarah Plain is the worse thing to happen to liberal media, ever.
My favorite part of the convention is still Breitbart "Its not your business model that sucks, its you that sucks"
phil @ 11:07, I am extremeley disgusted with your choice of words, that expression you and your ilk use belongs on a hard core porn site. Disgusting pig go crawl back under your rock.
old Lori - I think the jury is still out on Palin. I'm not ready to throw her under the bus on whether or not she is presidential material.
You are wrong to compare her abilities to Chairman O's. Palin has a record of accomplishment actually running things and a successful one at that. She is a former Mayor and Govenor. Her approval rating in these endeavour was very high.
Now compare that to the Chairman.
Your argument that compares her to the Totus doesn't pass muster.
If you're going to make a case for her not being Prez material you will have to offer concrete points to support that thesis. So far you've offered none - zero - zilch.
Mentioning the woman that wanted to be buried in the T-shirt I was struck by one thing. He did not give her name. Now if she felt as it appeared she did, she would have been honoured if he had. When bambam can make political hay, he does. So I don't know if she is a figment or not.
I don't think that Palin should run for president. Certainly not now. Maybe never.
My reason is that I think she has a far more important role - the public political articulation of The People. The American people as they really are. Now. The Constitution as it is. In other words - the articulation of reality.
She couldn't do this if she were running in a party campaign because then she'd be speaking for the ideology of the Republican Party. But at the moment, she's not speaking 'for' any party. She's speaking for the reality of the American people and that includes independents, Republicans and Democrats.
As she said, she'll endorse any candidate regardless of political party, if they support the basic themes of conservativism: small non-intrusive govt, lowering of taxes, focus on small business and private ownership in a free market economy and a strong defense. That's it.
Being the Voice of America is at the moment, a vital, an extremely important role. She's perfect for it - and that's where she should be.
What I find fascinating is how the statist elitist left is going to deal with this. They've tried the smear tactics - and how childish that is, as evinced by phil here. That won't work; the dirt sticks to the left.
And trying to get Obama the narcissist to be a 'man of the people' is impossible. His favourite word (I, me, my); the walls of the White House covered with pictures of Himself..and remember his gift to the Queen: an ipod with his speeches on it!
He is unable to interact with people without his teleprompter; that's why they've stopped all press Q&A meetings since July. He, and the Gang who run him are trapped in ideology, a utopian vision of what 'ought to be', without any interest in the real world of whether Americans want their fictional world.
So, how does a fictional world deal with the real world? That's fascinating.
Yes. But Reagan's mettle and ideas were formed by 40 years of conservative activism and especially two terms as the Governor of California. Palin does not compare.
Small town mayor x 6 years, small state Governor x 2-3 years, quit in mid term. Sorry, that does not pass muster. Yes, it's probably better than 0bama. Does that make it right? 0bama is the least qualified president in history, the ultimate expression of affirmative action. Is that the bar we have now set for the next president?
I do, very much, like the idea as noted above of Palin as the next Oprah. A person around whom conservative voices can rally. That's an excellent role for her. Yes, she's a great speaker.
But is this the person you want sitting down in the oval office making decisions that shake the world. What experience does she have to draw upon? What broad understanding of human issues, obtained through education, experience, and travel can she bring? Sorry. No. The founding fathers of the US were men of deep learning, and engaged in prolonged and deep debate, and this is what led to the birth of the most brilliant and most successful governance structure in human history. The compromise of the principles of the Constitution can be seen in every major failure of the United States in the past century. Every mistake they have made was predicted in the writings of Jefferson and Adams and Madison.
I am not asking for another Thomas Jefferson at this point. Hell, he probably would get massacred by the poisonous politics that we have these days, but we need a person of stature. We have not had a great US president in a long time, since Reagan. Can't the US come up with such a person at least once a generation? If not, then truly the future looks dim.
Oh, did I also mention that besides needing cheat notes to get through a sycophantic softball interview before an adoring audience, Palin is also a tax cheat.?
Actually old Lori, ordinary people are exactly who needs to be running America. At its base is the very concept that all men are created equal. This elitist ideal is what is getting them into the glue in the first place. I've been around long enough to have known men and women of genius in all walks of life. One of my favorite Presidents couldn't make it as a farmer or a haberdasher so he became president. I'm not sold on Palin but I won't discount her because she doesn't fit the elite.
But Reagan's mettle and ideas were formed by 40 years of conservative activism and especially two terms as the Governor of California.
~old Lori
Ronald Reagan was a registered Democrat until 1962 when he switched to the Republican Party.
He became President in 1981.

Errr... OK.. So I was off by one year because I rounded off to the nearest decade.... Your point?
And Joe, with respect, the Founding Fathers were not ordinary people. Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson are two of the most brilliant thinkers of any time. Einstein had issues holding a job.
My understanding of the "all men are created equal" bit is that they all have the same inalienable rights. None have more rights than others. But problem solving skills, intellect, artistic talent, physical prowess, and strength of will are not given out equally at birth. I know genius mechanics, laboratory researchers, doctors, and librarians. They are geniuses at what they do. They would not be capable of managing the amount and complexity of information that a POTUS has to deal with. Further, they do not have the philosophical, cultural, and moral grounding to equitably manage the conflicts that a POTUS must resolve.
The resolution of conflict between competing interests and ideas is probably the most important role of a leader like the president. Within their own close advisors, within their own government apparatus, and within the nation they govern. This, by the way, is entirely why 0bama is failing.
This "conflict management" skill is in part a talent, I believe, but it is also something learned through life, through perspective, and through the actual practice of the skill during the course of a life. It's the reason why age is respected in all cultures. It's the reason why a 40 year old should not be president unless there is something truly extraordinary about them.

You were off by 19 years.
That's off by half, if you round up by decades.
You know someone is a Liberal when they think the difference between 1962 and 1981 is 40 years.
Liberals can't do math.
Rush Limbaugh can say "retard" because he doesn't claim to be PC, politically correct.
In fact Rush doesn't buy into the speech restrictions of political correctness at all.
When someone who lives by political correctness says "retard", they are breaking their own rules and being a hypocrite.
Olby and Mattews go into a ballistic, male chauvinist rant whenever they hear her name or see her in action. As some have mentioned here, perhaps she could do more for America and the world as an organizer and a media personality.
The biggest problem in the world today is the media. She could squelch the idiots with a better product. As President the media attacks would be petty, relentless and distracting. The Olbermanns and the Matthews of the world know no shame.
phil @ 12:02, you slimeball, if there was a shred of truth to your charge that Palin is a tax cheat she'd have been crucified by opponents with more guts and money than you.
But just like those ethics charges and every other attempt at slander made by your kind of gutless gigolo, even those with more money and opportunity than you, they never are pursued beyond the whisper and media-leak stage.
This is just the media desperately needing to change the topic from Obama's recent failings. Wait til the GOP selects its candidate for 2012, I'm sure MSM is salivating at ripping him/her to shreds.
When someone who lives by political correctness says "retard", they are breaking their own rules and being a hypocrite.
No, oz, when it was reported that Emanuel used the word in a private meeting -- one time -- Palin quickly took to Facebook and, mentioning Emanuel by name, called on President Obama to fire him. When Limbaugh repeatedly used the term on his radio show, Palin did nothing.
As usual, Palin is the hypocrite, but what can you expect from a tax fraud and softball interview cheat, quitter and serial liar?
Emmanuel is Chief of Whitehouse Staff.
His job is to ride herd over people who make such gaffs, especially since being PC is what Liberals are all about.
He broke his own rules.
Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer.
Rush didn't break any of his own rules, and probably not the terms of his employment contract, he was holding Emmanuel to Emmanuel's own standards.
Rush can say "retard" or any other word his contract permits.
Next you'll be saying that Mark Steyn should be prosecuted by the CHRC for merely quoting some Imam or Ayatollah in a McLean's column and discussing the quote.
It' isn't a surprise that you can't comprehend the difference, phil.
Will Palin run for POTUS? Who knows...but I would much rather see a person like her running the show than most Harvard or Yale graduates. Given the quality of work and ideas coming out of the universities, it's doubtful that the "best, brightest, most thoughtful, best educated" will come out the todays Ivy League. This is not an aversion to higher education but an observation of how distorted and mindless higher education has become.
Experience is important but so is the type of experience. A candidate with experience in the business world or military is far better grounded than lifer politicians, career students, and community organizers. Today it is the voice of the middle and entrepreneurial class that speaks with clarity and confidence. We need more doers and less borg-like technocrats.
I sometimes think we overestimate Sarah Palin's effect on the political climate, but then I see the endless, whiny posts by idiot boy phil and I realize just how much she's scaring the liberal and democratic left. I'd sooner see her working outside government, though, because I think she can play a unique role by keeping the conservative movement truly conservative. Oh, and by annoying pissants like phil.
This calculation is rather challenging to me. Subtractin 1962 from 1981, placing it beside, above, below, somehow wont make 40.
old Lori, help me out.
Thanks
Compounding her deceit with hypocrisy: In 2004, it came to light that Republican Rep. Vic Kohring owed the borough $2,277 in unpaid property taxes on property he owns off Knik-Goose Bay Road, according to borough records. “That bothered former Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin enough that she declined a campaign request to do a pro-Kohring TV commercial. As a former mayor, Palin said, it made her uncomfortable to back someone with unpaid taxes when the city relies on property taxes.” [Anchorage Daily News (Alaska), 10/28/04]

She is the antidote to the snake oil the Obama Democrats and the American MSM are currently selling.
The good part is that FOX News network is allowing her a platform.
What a pity Canada does not have a FOX equivalent.
But then again, is there in Canada anyone to speak the message that Sarah Palin is taking to the Americans?
Conrad Black, come back home as soon as is possible, we need a conservative medium news disseminator like FOX in Canada.

She doesn't let anyone put her down and isn't afraid to step up or go for a goal, whatever it may be.
Speaking of Sarah's ability to speak without the use of a teleprompter and Obama's total reliance.

old Lori said: We don't need "everyday people" running the US.
I normally run hot and cold about Andrew Breitbart, but his latest idea is outstanding:
Stop thinking of Palin as the next President.
Start thinking of her as the next Oprah.
[T]he question of Ms. Palin’s ambitions and abilities remain as much a mystery now as when she first stormed the national consciousness 18 months ago.
Sarah Palin: Slayer of Dragons, Tea Party Guiding Light, and King Maker.
She is a beautiful human being.
No doubt the Obamanation fears her.

the debut of the Palin Palm Pilot during the tea party speech. You may know it as the iQuit?
Run, Sarah, run.
"wasn't Reagan a Governor just as Palin was".
But Reagan's mettle and ideas were formed by 40 years of conservative activism and especially two terms as the Governor of California.

Ronald Reagan was a registered Democrat until 1962 when he switched to the Republican Party.
He became President in 1981.

Errr...
Palin is not qualified.
"It's okay for Rush to say 'retard' because...well just because I say so!"

I like her other hair-do better :)
Errr... OK.. So I was off by one year because I rounded off to the nearest decade....
At both ends.
The resolution of conflict between competing interests and ideas is probably the most important role of a leader like the president.

Please demonstrate with an example why, in your opinion, you think Sarah Palin has come up short in this "most important role".
We can analyze and suggest all we want but ...
[ Sarah Palin has President Obama in her sights, telling FoxNews.com she "would be willing" to challenge him in the 2012 presidential race.]
Thanks

Compounding her deceit with hypocrisy:
In 2004, it came to light that Republican Rep.
Run, Sarah, run.
Sarah Palin endorses people with sensible "people" ideas not particularly a party . IMO that would make a pretty decent Independent President.
