Declining fog cover on California's coast could leave the state's famous redwoods high and dry, a new study says.Among the tallest and longest-lived trees on Earth, redwoods depend on summertime's moisture-rich fog to replenish their water reserves.
But climate change may be reducing this crucial fog cover. Though still poorly understood, climate change may be contributing to a decline in a high-pressure climatic system that usually "pinches itself" against the coast, creating fog, said study co-author James Johnstone, an environmental scientist at the University of California, Berkeley.
The Bay Area just had its foggiest May in 50 years. And thanks to global warming, it's about to get even foggier. That's the conclusion of several state researchers, whose soon-to-be-published study predicts that even with average temperatures on the rise, the mercury won't be soaring everywhere.

And, of course, over the hundreds of years of currently-alive redwood growth the amount of fog in the area has always remained constant just as it's been constant over the thousands of years of redwood existence.
The National Geographic is firmly in the AGW camp.
"But climate change may be reducing this crucial fog cover, or not. Though still poorly understood, but that doesn't stop us from idly speculating that climate change may or may not be contributing to a decline in a high-pressure climatic system that usually "pinches itself" against the coast, creating fog, said study co-author James Johnstone, an environmental alarmist at the University of California, Berkeley. Johnstone, thought by some to be a graduate of "Cracker-Jack U", a veiled reference to the origin of the scientific credentials of many "climatologists" in the wake of the CRU emails, indicated he was refusing to hide the decline."
There, fixed that for ya.
Maybe its time we de-funded the "education" industry and found these poor folks some real jobs. Obviously their education hasn't helped them and its certainly not helping the rest of us. We could start with de-funding journalism schools everywhere. I asked an old farmer about journalists and he called them 'busybodies with an agenda and a printing press that are best ignored'.
"Studies haven't yet studied the effects of less fog on redwoods, Johnstone added. "
At least he didn't say,"da proof is da proof".
Seeing that the redwoods live for up to 2200 years, I doubt there hasn't been a period where there's been less or more fog than normal, whatever the hell "normal" is.
I sometimes wonder if every "green" organization, from Greenpeace to the National geographic, isn't lead by misanthropes.
We clearly need governmental intervention to insure that this year's weather is identical to last year's weather.
San Fransisco, Fog, and Nancy Pelosi. Enough said.
Yet another example that places AGW firmly in the Religions of the World camp, and not in that of Scientific Theories.
As we see over and over again, AGW is not falsifiable.
More snow? AGW.
Less snow? AGW.
Heat wave? AGW.
Cold snap? AGW.
And now....
More fog? AGW.
Less fog? AGW.
It's long-since turned into an unfunny joke.
The argument for all the snow on the East coast is that global warming has put more moisture in the air because the oceans are warmer.
Somehow that type of global warming isn't happening off of California. They get a different type of global warming, where it reduces fog (moisture) in the air.
Also interesting in view of the AGW alarmists glib lawyerlike logic explaining away the latest snowstorms, are the years of network and local TV news shows where scripted talking heads and cloud pushers confidently offered any summer one week heatwave as concrete proof of global warning. I don't recall any AGW alarmists demanding time to tell the TV audience that "weather isn't climate" then. In fact, many followers of Dr Fruitfly et al were quite happy to pontificate endlessly in quickly arranged softball interviews using such events as a backdrop.
This is what's called a pithy juxtaposition. High Fives, Paul!
Paul, nice AGW hedge exposure.
The 'clueless academic' needs to be added to the list of endangered species.
I am sick and tired of hearing about these little "scientific studies".
The "clueless academic" does not need to be added
to the list of endangered species. They are like
seals - too d***ned many of them as it is.

Ummmmmmmm. I think you took philanthropist's comment the wrong way. Think about REDUCING their numbers down to where they are endangered!! Or further.
To paraphrase an old George Carlin line...
"Mother's milk leads to global warming."
scientific American has nitrogen causing global warming this month too. its a twisted story but basicly the article was saying nitrogen fertilizer was making plants grow where they shouldnt .
the experts cant get on the same page other than for gubmint grants.
