Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
CNN, November 2008 - "There is a delicious irony in seeing private luxury jets flying into Washington, D.C., and people coming off of them with tin cups in their hand, saying that they're going to be trimming down and streamlining their businesses," Rep. Gary Ackerman, D-New York, told the chief executive officers of Ford, Chrysler and General Motors at a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee.
Washington Examiner, February 2010 - Electric vehicle maker used private jet to lobby in D.C. a dozen times

But it's ok for the greenies! They were doing it for the children, er, planet, er Mother Gaia and her prophet, Algoricus!
I thought that blarb about driving vs flying was another low point for the Congress. Pure pandering. I dislike grandstanding for the cameras, which this was. Solely to score political points.
It distracted from the real problem - that the US was and is facing serious problems.
In any case, the US market is saturated for automobiles, with potentially more vehicles on the road than licensed drivers (think rental cars, motor homes, etc).
That's why there was cash for clunkers, to stimulate artificial demand. And it may have produced a short term blip, but that's about it.
If you legislate that everyone must have hybrids for non-commercial use, that would sure improve sales in the auto sector. Watch for something like that soon.
Agreed Erik!!!
How ever we must remeber that many americans are just waiting for the green light on a civil war keep that in the back of your head .
Paul in calgary .
Clearly when it comes to car makers, some are more equal than others.
Hypocracy thy name is greenie.
You've got it all wrong.
Now that we've figured out that global warming isn't - its OK. OK!
Outstanding juxtaposition. I don't recall seeing a whole lot of electric cars on the road. I wonder where the money is coming from, for them to have their own private jets. So, I suppose they are using government subsidies to lobby for more subsidies. Great business model.
Hypocracy thy name is Dr.Casey..
Sweet but typical jux - I agree. I was watching a GM commercial a few minutes ago that showed a Chevy Volt being plugged in for the night. My first thought was a pseudo Wizard of Oz flashback - "Pay no attention the the coal fired electrical generation plant behind the curtain!!!".
Do the greentards think that electricity just magically flows out the end of the cord?
Incidentally, I see on Drudge that the new, appointed by The One, head of Government Motors is getting a $6 million paycheck this year.
Also on Drudge today, Toyota looks like they are going to bring it to the Democraps in these hearings coming up. If were Mr. Toyoda, I'd ask the sons 'a bee-atches how they'd like it if I shuttered every Toyota plant in the USA and moved the whole works to Mexico and Canada.
I'm hoping Stevie and company called Mr. Toyoda and told him we're open of business.
Open FOR business. Dang tiny keyboard.
And yes BrianM, greentards do think the electricity comes from the outlet all clean and nice. They don't understand the idea of a "coal fired generator" or line losses, etc.
Indeed, they are the kind of people who think if you are nice to mountain lions and don't let mean conservatives hunt them, that the cuddly kitties will be all grateful and won't come into your yard and eat your kids.
That's why we call them 'tards.
Wrong issue.
I don't care whether they take a plane, a train, an automobile (gas, diesel, hybrid, or electric), a bicycle, or a wheelchair.
It's the fact that they're going to ask the government to give them more of my money to achieve their aims that's the problem.
Go Greyhound, and leave the driving to us?
These wouldn't be the same cheapskate politicians who quietly extort the use of private jets from companies to get them, their families, even their hangers-on to fund raising events and foreign vacations gratis by any chance?
Didn't Chrysler recently shelve some electric or hybrid projects?
Chrysler didn't drop the electric car project, the ruling was made by Fiat, pun intended.
Greenies are allowed to fly endless carbon-belching trips around the world cuz they're in it for Momma Gaia. Well... Momma Gaia and big fat wads of tax-payer funded dollars.
The 'progressive' Green/Left don't do irony...
The Goreacle unplugged ... a wind(sock) bag...
"If you legislate that everyone must have hybrids for non-commercial use..."
Gettin' real tired of somebody else's vested interest force trumping my vested interest...
Hybrids are dying on the vine - toy for the already rich. Fleet buyers are dumping them off lease - maintenance costs are horrific, and the fuel savings aren't being realized.
I'm glad the CTF has been hammering away at both ironies: carbon taxes and corporate handouts.

Watched an 'infomercial' for a new Ford electric truck with a range of 80 KM per charge (warm weather 50 km Cold weather). Running 220v it has to be plugged in for 8 hours. Not sure what the amperage required as it is usual for the amps drawn to drop as the battery reaches full charge but if you think of running your stove every night for 8 hours I would think it would tend to be expensive with the electrical rates here in Edmonton. Can't imagine it doing much good for CO2 since here in Edmonton our electricity is coal generated. It might cut down on urban smog but since that isn't really a big problem here in Edmonton I don't see any advantage to converting.
BTW what do you do with those monster batteries when they fail?
Joe.
isnt Edmonton's power plant downtown? or is that one shut down. I haven't driven through the downdown now for nearly 20 years.
you know with the Capliano and the Whitemud
Not any more cal2 Edmonton gets its electricity off the provincial grid and owns the Epcor Power Plants out at Genesee (Lake Wabamun) as well as numerous co-gen plants around the province.
