Must be a military thing. Lieutenant is even wierder:

"Left-tenant" in British English - correctly describing the French origin of the rank which translates into "Place Holder".

"Loo-tenant" in american English, which correctly replaces the French sound with an english mangling.

As much as I think Obama is a tool, this is to my mind an innocent faux-pas only indicating unfamiliarity with US Military ranks.

Given the current state of governance over-reach, I think that virtually every politician exemplifies the Peter Principle upon election. I didn't know there were dialects in the U.S. military. I thought there was the military way of pronouncing things and the wrong way.
