Addressing the recent murders of two women, allegedly by Col. Russell Williams, Charlie Smith of the Georgia Straight has a couple of questions, one for the Canadian Armed Forces and one for Canadians in general:
Is (the Canadian Armed Forces) using the psychopathy checklist, which was pioneered by retired UBC psychology professor Bob Hare, to ferret out psychopaths? I emailed a question to the Department of National Defence, and I received a call back saying the inquiry couldn't be answered this evening. However, someone will call back tomorrow.
In the meantime, perhaps we should ask ourselves if this is another cost of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's decision to prorogue Parliament...
Honestly now...
(h/t blackash)

Dear Lord...
"In the meantime, perhaps we should ask ourselves if this is another cost of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's decision to prorogue Parliament..."
I said to my husband last night as I watched the news that this was going to be blamed on Stephen Harper....I sort of had my tongue in cheek, but I guess I didn't realize that someone could actually tie this to him....sigh
It has become quite evident to me that those who have really skewered PMSH over proroguing Parliament are not so much upset that he shut the place down for awhile as they are that the PM now has the Senators he needs to help him advance his agenda (oh ya - his hidden agenda).
They are just so dishonest about their righteous indignation. Phony bastards all!
I've sent them a comment, doubt it will get posted.
if you have ever read the Straight, you;d know they use psychopathy checklist and hire the failures.
Let it be remembered that this is, after all, Charlie Smith who has written with the Georgia Straight for years. You can imagine what affect that would have on any sane person. Carry on with the porn ads boys.
Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, is he?
a bassakwards headline courtesy of CTVtass but worthty of CBCpravda. no reporting on what PMSH says, just the oppositions reponse. not responsible reporting at all. I think I will not watch the olympics on CTVtass

Huh?
I mean I can usually draw a line from Liberal Point A to B, but come on even in the tortured and fevered progressive minds of the left this is a stretch...the Department of National Defence does not stay home because lawmakers are out, it is not a Government is away so the Military skips out and plays. Waiting 24 hours for an answer, how unacceptable!
"If Parliament were in session, perhaps an Opposition MP could have asked Defence Minister Peter MacKay if senior military commanders are screened for psychopathy. In light of recent events, it's a legitimate area to pursue and it wouldn't jeopardize Williams's right to a fair trial.
If it turns out that the Canadian Armed Forces isn't testing its senior commanders in this area, the public might start wondering if it's time the prime minister found a new minister of national defence."
Ya that will solve the problem, a New Minister via a Question Period Mud-Slinging session will magically remove any chance that a Military Officer will commit a crime in the future, ya thats the revenge the left needs.
Perhaps Charlie Smith should go through the screening and report back the results.
The promotion of this man to Col is clearly the fault of Jean Chretien, after all, Mr Chretien had close contact with Col Williams during the years that the Col was his pilot. Perhaps Col Williams even had some influence on Mr Chretien for the purchase of new Challenger aircraft without using the normal process for capital purchases.
/sarc off
Wiarton Willie saw his shadow! would this have happened if the PM had not prorogued?
Give your head a shake Smith maybe you should have your head read instead for writing the most ludicrous piece of trash i think i have ever read.
Journalism in Canada ranks right up there with the National Enquirer.
BTW: I posted under Readers Tips NP article
"Look Who is Proroguing"
Where's the indignation there for McGuinty & he has a Majority, Chirp Chirp Chirp!
All I can say is it's a good thing the straight doesn't put it's blog contributors through psych screening or they'd have no copy.
"In the meantime, perhaps we should ask ourselves if this is another cost of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's decision to prorogue Parliament..."
No Sir, the real cost of the decision to prorogue
parliment is that is give license to idiots like you to write crap like this...
Did Humpty Dumpty fall, or was he pushed because he knew too much about proroguing parliament?
If Harper hadn't prorogued parliament all the king's horses and all the king's men could have put him together again.
In response to bryanr at 8:48 am, the National Enquirer actually gets some things right and has a better accuracy in the most recent past. Can not say that about the Canadian MSM.
nnm @ 8:27, does the knife even have an edge?
Umpteenth proof that logic and Canadian left don't mix.
HDS...it's official.
Harper Derangement Syndrome
bryanr, I left a comment there also.
Well of course Stephen Harper might as well be the devil himself...according to the Georgia Straight or is that the Georgia Crooked?
Thus PMSH is linked to the alleged psycho-sexual predator Col. Williams.
Ya, I'm sure PMSH has put an advert in the personal section of the Georgia Straight seeking an odd bedroom romp...
Oh but don't you get the joke PMSH is for a "PRO ROGUE" government...
Must be one those inside Georgia Straight jokes...
In other news PMSH is being criticised for a speech before he even makes it...to the BC legislature.

If its any consolation the pot smoking perverted hippies of the Georgia Straight have their offices in the same building as the head office of the Fraser Institute. Every day they have to ride up and down the elevator with rich successful capitalist pigs while they scrape out an existence mainly selling porn ads.
Last night, an almost rabid female CBC "newsperson" badgered the CDS with persistent and hectoring questions about "psychological testing".
They're mad, all of them. If anyone needs testing, it's the media.
I also saw CBC's National newscast last night JJM and I felt like throwing something at the TV. The nitwit "newsperson" badgered the CDS until I yelled at her "shut up fool" and my wife came in the room wondering what caused such an outburst.
The linked article can be summed up in a very few words:
"I have a suspicion that CF does not run things exactly the way I want"
Fine by me.
As my Dad used to say, "That boy is about as sharp as a hole".
Did'nt the HHRC hire a known female cop criminal as Ezra Levant pointed out long ago?
The left loves their criminals. When the Bolshiveks took over in Russia they opened the prisons and released every degenerate against the Russian people killing tens of millions.
To put this issue in perspective I would like to direct you to an interview with Dr.Bruce Levine on Infowars feb 10 2010.We are witnessing an engineered breakdown of society as we knew it.Part of the puzzle is here for us,this really is a war for your mind, wake up, we can change things for the better. If we keep doing the same thing the same way nothing is going to change. The best way for me to direct you to the interview is thru You Tube.
Surprised that the media hasn't managed to slip Bush in here somewhere yet.
After all, he's the devil incarnate responsible for all the world's sundry ills, isn't he?
That was too pitiful.
One assumes that the journalist in question has a brain so simply wired a first-year electrical student could perform brain surgery on the twit with a blow torch and a soldering gun.
It isn't even the hack-job hit for political reasons that is the worst of this drivel. That's "progressive" "journalism" which sadly is the norm. No, the worst of it is how childish and stupid the remark was.
If you are going to slag someone, find an intelligent way to do it. Try starting with a fact or two. Then elaborate with logic.
Further to that, maybe this imbecile could have waited for an answer to his question before making himself look like a slack-jawed retard.
The killer was an officer. It's hard to call up the poor, illiterate grunting and violent oaf stereotype of the military (that the "tolerant" media seems to have internalized) when you have to go to university and get a degree before you get to be an officer.
I bet the lowest officer has a better education that 99% of the journalists out there. The other 1% completed their education while embedded with the military.
The Georgia strate dude missed the most obvious connection, that of Col Williams and global warming and funding cuts to the needle exchange. Geeesh!
If parliament was so vital to all things Canadian, we wouldn't shut it down regularly for vacations and elections. These fools like to ignore the fact the Chretien prorogue parliament FOUR times and their beloved Trudeau did it ELEVEN times.
Whatever the psychological testing requirements are for commanding officers, it likely remains unchanged from when Mr. Martin was Prime Minister. Besides, anybody who thinks psychological testing is an infallible science probably lost the ability to distinguish real life from Hollywood movies a long time ago.
Oh, and for the record, the military does do psych testing then weeds out the undesirables in the first year or two.
The people who couldn't hide their aggression are out quick.
The problem with scociopaths and psychopaths is that they tend to be smart and can beat the system. That's why they take so long to catch.
Further irony can be gleamed in the fact that journalists also look down on cops who're the ones who have to be smart enough to catch said killers. The only job description a journalist has: know nothing but be snotty and condescending while illustrating astounding ignorance.
And the first time a minority person was weeded out of the military, cue the leftist media to cry foul, it is racist, bigotry or whatever. I blame political correctness for most of the mess we are in. Then you have the lowering of standards to get into the police, rcmp, military, university and firefighting.
Here is a simple solution for the frustration I persononally have experianced from reading the drivel from the Straight and watching CBC and for that matter any mainstream news source.Stop looking at it stop listening to it.The more we support these sources of dissinformation the longer they will remain viable.Advertising keeps these things afloat no readers or viewers will lead to their ultimate demise.Browse the internet dont waste your time or energy caring what these peaple say or think mainstream media is dying we need only to ignore them to starve them to death.
I have always regarded the Georgia Straight as a humor publication not to be taken seriously.
It offers a glimpse into the deranged and often entertaining mind of the left.
And to think the Georgia Strait was even loonier than that when it first began publication. Sheesh.

Someone should tell this guy that if you don't change your bong water it can cause ....sorry...forgot what I was gonna say.
Shocking to realize that out of 6 million sperm cells Charlie's won the race!
This ranks up there with Lizzie "Beaver" May's recent argument, linking global warming with a worsening AIDS crisis in Africa.
"The killer was an officer." Posted by: Jason at February 11, 2010 10:53 AM
ALLEGED killer, Jason. The same legal principles acquired with difficulty over centuries, "presumption of innocence", "proof of guilt beyond any reasonable doubt", "due process of law" protect this accused officer and all accused in all of the Anglophone Democracies.
Whether or not this officer, or any other criminal defendant, is guilty, we owe him these safeguards because they also protect us.
And, if we faithfully fulfill our duties as Citizens, we will pass them on intact to our children and grandchildren.
"If Parliament were in session, perhaps an Opposition MP could have asked Defence Minister Peter MacKay if senior military commanders are screened for psychopathy."
You just knew this had to appear sooner or later, though the GS is hardly the MSM. Try as they might to blame Harper, this guy served more years under Liberal governments than he did under Conservatives, not that that has anything to do with it.
The author says he interviewed Dr.Robert Hare, but seems to have cherry-picked Hare's theories on psychopaths.
I've read two of Hare's books and seen several interviews with him. Hare claims psychopaths comprise 2% to 3 % of the male population, and about 1% of the female population. Most psychopaths are not of the "slasher movie" type, but live their lives quietly and usually very successfully, among us, undetected.
Hare says psychopaths tend toward careers where they have power and control, and in an interview on CTV said bluntly that politics would definitely be an area they would be interested in and probably excel in. He also said that a career as lawyers, judges, doctors, would also appeal to their personality.
Hare warned against amateur psychologists conferring "psychopath" on every person whose personality they didn't like.
I think the Hare test for persons going into careers where they can have a profound effect on society is a very good idea, and first place they should start administering them is appointments to the Courts. Some of the sentences handed down by Judges makes one wonder if that personality disorder isn't in play.
Williams is only one of millions of people who have served in the Canadian Forces, and he appears to be one of very few to have gone off the rails so completely. The Forces have nothing to apologize for,as there is bound to be one bad character that slips by the toughest testing system no matter how careful they can be. Psychopath tests are not infallible and very clever psychos have been known to pass quite easily.
The stretch from prorogation to Williams is so far it's utterly ridiculous, and if the author considers himself a "journalist" he's sadly mistaken.
Even Warren Kinsella's never got this loony.

Good call!
There is a high probability that has merit.

A couple of points:
1. The excoriation and exposure of false/biased/partisan "reporting" is not in any sense "support", and it is not taken as such, either by the organizations you mention OR by their advertisers. Christina Lawand was fired by the CBC after the blogosphere (and then, later, MSM opinion columnists) called her out for a biased report in which the PM's response to a particular question was presented as his response to what was in fact a different, unrelated question. Were those who first noticed, and then commented on, Lawand's blatantly partisan fraudulence "supporting" the CBC? And how about Dan Rather: were those who noticed the false story that got him fired "supporting" CBS? Did CBS gain advertising revenue as a result of the Rather embarrassment?
2. In the case of the CBC, on top of their advertising revenue they are kept afloat by the $1 billion a year they get from taxpayers like you. To keep them accountable, someone has to keep an eye on them.
3. I respectfully suggest that the "frustration (you) personally have experienced" from watching/reading biased sources isn't really an issue for anyone but yourself. In the big picture, the frustration you describe yourself as feeling whenever you see bias and disinformation isn't even one ten-thousandth as important as opposing/drawing attention to the dissemination of misinformation, specious slurs, etc etc.
unbelievable, what that fool tool wrote, dumb as a bag of hammers doesn't come close
JJM - Give it time, give it time. Carolyn Bennett has yet to be heard from.

Agreed, however, it has been reported that the 'Colonel' has confessed to two murders, two rapes, 4 dozen home invasions to steal 'women's lingerie'; also, the MSM has reported it was the Colonel who led police to the body of his latest victim.
In this case it may be true he has confessed but I find it mind boggling that he would admit as much as he apparently has within such a short period of time in which he spoke with the police Profiler on Feb. 11.
