Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Winnipeg Free Press, Feb.4th - I'm left wondering why it seems three trained daycare staff members can't count to 11.
Toronto Sun, Feb.1st - I'm left wondering why it seems a Harvard trained professor can't count to -56B.

Let's just keep spending until life on an Indian starts looking like a move up.
Dear Mr. Ignatieff,
Thank you very much for reminding me, once again, why a Conservative government under Stephen Harper is the best choice for Canada.
Sincerely yours,
One of those female voters you are trying so hard to get on the Liberal bandwagon
'“At a time when Canadian families can least afford it, Michael Ignatieff wants to impose a $6-billion, one-size-fits-all model of day care,” said Ryan Sparrow, a spokesman for Human Resources Minister Diane Finley.'
The $6 billion figure assumes that the Liberals are capable of instituting a nation-wide program on budget. Their track record in that regard doesn't inspire confidence.
Now,now Barbara....Iggy just wants all our kiddies rounded up and put in the "gulag".My question is,where is he going to built it?Oh wait...Queerbec...Hans Island is all ready claimed.Damn them Danes.
Barbara,
I think you are correct. The only justification for this, politically, is to try to consolidate NDP votes under a Liberal banner. The effect will be to raise underlying doubts about the fiscal rectitude of the Liberal party.
Sometimes its good to be the centre party, but only when facing two extremes. The cons are hardly extreme, despite Iggy's attempts to paint them as hard right socons.....it isnt going to happen. I am still bothered by Iggy's red herring issue. Is he saying that his policy is for more abortion access internationally than we already have, that Canadian contributions to aid should prioritize abortion clinics ahead of clean water? And are we supposed to make access to abortion in other countries a string of our aid? What freaking moron, even if you support abortion choice in this country it is so far down the list of things to do in these poverty stricken places that you have to wonder where his head is.
It is just as offensive to make it a string one way as it would be to make it a string the other. I hope this one bites him back in a nasty way, because it is such a crass move.
What is coming is a fight about the plan to contain the spending. Displacing private spending with more permanent public spending is the wrong note. As Barbare said, thanks for reminding me why I shouldnt vote Liberal and why I should vote conservative....whetehr I agree with everything they do or not.
I agree, Ndp and Liberals should consolidate under one banner saying : pathetic lack of ideas.
Just caught the tail end of a conversation on Adler, apparently Iggy is whining about Harper not providing Haitian's with abortion services. This guy from Harvard is certifiable.
"The huge federal deficit must not stand in the way of a national child-care program, Michael Ignatieff said Monday"
Huh? Well last week Iffy was all over the Tories for deficit spending (which they did under intimidation from the opposition troika).
Just what IS your position Iffy? You make it hard for us to define from your constant flip flopping and dithering. Anyone'd think you learned your technique from Mr Dithers Martin.
Nice poll that needs to go horribly wrong on the right of the Winnipeg Free Press article.
The real issue is that we have become a society in which many people have to send kids to day care. This is a poor choice.
We should support families so that kids can remain at home in the care of a loving parent or grand parent. We should reduce taxes for families so that they have more choices.
In all fairness, the program would allow more people to enter the workforce leading to job creation via the upstart of new business.
A better question would be why are we leaving children in the hands of the Riders' coaching staff during the off-season?
Jackel....
I see .........the disparity between fairness and logic.
This is damned outrageous!
How dare a bunch of smug Canadians disparage the name of a fine American citizen who daily makes a tremendous contribution to the USA?
Michael Ignatieff is a proud supporter of the Red, White, and Blue. How can Canadians not have complete respect for a man that could have Old Glory tatooed on some innocuous part of his body?
Michael Ignatieff eats, sleeps, and breathes the American values of our great president.
The two of them together can stand proud as Ebony and Ivory!
The two links illustrate what should be obvious to Canadian citizens: the Troika outfit and supporters, do not consider your child a treasure, as you do; the msm 'leader' of the Troika outfit does not consider you money of value, as you do.
The 'leader' and his pals would tax you for state daycare and allow your child to perish in that system without blinking an eye! Alarming, is an understatement.
I second Barbara's comment @2:27.
Heck, Kate, we have a Harvard trained lawyer down here in the US who can't count to 1.5 trillion!
"roundtable on poverty organized by his party,"
Would be hard to find a more apt statement than that one..
Yep... universal, low-cost daycare is unaffordable. Existing and future workers are already on the hook for the aging boomers health care costs, pensions and government debt. Adding more entitlement programs at this time is crazy talk. We'll be lucky to be able to maintain the existing ones.
Besides, parents should really think about the costs of raising a child before having one. To expect society to provide free daycare and free post-secondary education (another MI musing) on top of K-12 public education, 'free' health-care, CCTB, UCC etc. is unreasonable.
To increase the size of the future workforce it is better to lower taxes on working families. One and two income families (unlike welfare households) are more likely to produce children that will also enter the workforce. Tax policies promoting family income splitting would reward both working and having children.
When I was single and this issue came up,I thought to myself, why should I have to pay for other people's child care. Now married with two boys,my thinking is,there's no way in hell other people are going to raise my children.Opposite shifts to my wife's,unpaid time off, enlisting family if in a bind, whatever it takes,it was our choice to have children and I accept that responsibility.
Sorry,how Barry O. of me,we accept.
But the lefties all seem to want to destroy our economy and send us back to the stone age in terms of standard of living. How is it that child care is a priority in all of this? Is there going to be one big teepee for everyone to drop their children off before they leave to hunt deer or gather berries?
Liberals are for this because its about control. They have taken over the education system from Kindergarten to post grad, but there are still free thinkers out there. If they can get their hands on our kids even earlier, they can stamp out free thinking.
Jackel:
In all fairness, the program would allow more people to enter the workforce leading to job creation via the upstart of new business.
This is titanically, colossally stupid. In case you didn't notice, Mr. Jackel, right now in Canada and the United States, there are, depending on how one defines unemployment, between 16 million and 24 million unemployed or underemployed workers. Where is the job creation? Where are the new businesses? How many more people have to be looking for jobs to create new businesses? What's stopping them now?
It's not like the people staying at home minding kids right now are engineers, software developers, or product designers while their spouses are off working at Tim Horton's. It's generally the spouse with the lower earning potential who stays home. We currently can't find jobs for a million people in Canada, many of whom are highly skilled. How will unleashing another few thousand semi-skilled workers result in a new job boom?
Dumbest. Post. Ever.
Um, beyond the sheer cost of this idea, I have a constitutional question of sorts:
Shouldn't child care really be a provincial issue at best?
There are about 9 Million carbon units in Haiti less approximately 200 thousand recent departures. If they would consider aborting about half of the remainder, I would chip in.
I mean to say how much VooDoo and lazing about on a once beautiful, but now deforested useless, dangerous, corrupt, pointless island do we need?
Just trying to improve on Iggy's ideas here.
KevinB
I think Jackal was employing Obamanomics.
Syncro
Abe, I support your trying to add to Iggy's ideas, but I don't think abortion is effective after birth.
KevinB - agree completely. Adding to the workforce in no way create jobs, just job seekers.
Did anyone even think to ask what the average Canadian parent thinks? This is why Liberals shouldn't even be elevated to the task of fern-waterer. The complete idiocy and moral remove of these people are astounding.
I did day care at a church for about 6 months.
I gave it up when the day care supervisor refused me permission to put a spring loaded hinge on the door after one of the kids decided to walk out the open door and wander away.
he's no longer in charge of that day care and I not longer do any volunteer work especially for any religious organization.
minuteman nails the point
osumashi, The Socialist are famous for using the line "this is what Canadians want"
When we are never asked! this is what they assume anyways & we all know what assume means
Unionized State Run daycare!
A New Democrat communist notion consuming Iggy's Libs.
Soon the twain shall meet.
What a great idea again! Mandatory Daycare! and lets fight the epidemic of teen pregnancy as well! And I know of a single mother that lives by the railroad tracks that can't pay her phone bill too!
"I'm left wondering why it seems three trained daycare staff members can't count to 11."
Once they came in from the cold and took off their boots, any one of them surely had enough available digits!
What in the heck does *this* mean???
The parents don't want their names used because he's a full-time university student and is afraid there may be repercussions.
'he's no longer in charge of that day care and I not longer do any volunteer work especially for any religious organization'
What a go Curious George - u tell em.
A waiter once brought me burnt toast. I now no longer eat toast or go to places with waiters.
Ibrowz: "..the Liberal leader said he’ll also build the foundation for a national housing strategy before the next election.
Sounds like freddie&fanny redux+jimmah carters construction outfit.
Haitians?? Abortion services???
Christ, all I thought they wanted was food and water.
I think this is the jist of his statement.
".....I not longer do any volunteer work...."
how very very selfish of you.
In retrospect, I shouldn't have used the epithet "Christ" in my comments. My apologies to those whom I may have offended.
What is it about these Harvard types who can't see a problem with huge spending when you're already deep in the hole??
With Obama it's Health Care
With Iffy it's Child Care (or at least the ones who haven't been aborted under the other programs he wants to fund)

Jeff P:
When I first read that sentence, I had the same reaction as you did - "WTF?!". Then I thought about it, and realized that "he" refers to the father of the child. So, I'm surmising the day care is somehow related to the university the dad is studying at, and he didn't want to be known on campus as the guy who blew the whistle.
But I guess at today's journalism, a-hem, schools, concepts like matching pronouns and antecedents are considered a hangover from the tyranny of ancient white men, and have no place in modern journalism.
Lindor Reynolds ... a perfect example of why the Freep is going broke.
Also ... ironically she's one of those who believes that you SHOULD be paying for state run child care.
The problem you see .... they just don't get enough of you money.
But what the hey? It's a LIberal world....
Dammit! These rogue unlicensed, unregulated daycares must be shut down immediately. Think of the children!
Oh, wait. This one _is_ licensed and regulated.
And the Liberals want more just like it.
BryanR, there is an axiom about assumptions which alludes me at the moment but I think the first three letters apply to the Liberals.
Lindork Reynolds has been letting the air out of her head into a Free Press column for a couple of decades now, and doesn't seem to be running short.
What children? There aren't very many now, you know.
The political action is increasingly with elder care.
I am not enthusiastic for the present Conservative
goverment but when I consider the alternative I
shudder. Ignatieff talking about abortion in
Haiti? He's been given a talking point but he has
no clue as when to use it.
Curious George
I apologise to u for my sarcasm.
But were u seriously implying u gave up volunteer work because of one person's bad judgement?
, "vowing that a Liberal government would “find the money.” For a national daycare program.
Gee, I wonder where he'd look for that money.
Sales of Liberal Party artifacts? Bingo?
minuteman @ 4:28 is bang on. That is exactly what national daycare is all about. Equal Marxist brainwashing for all.
