"We were not consulted"

Raymond W. Kelly’s remarks Thursday to The New York Young Republican Club started out sounding very boilerplate – like a speech by any of the City’s mayors, police officials, and tourism execs: “Crime is down, tourism is up, come to Times Square and see a show.” So why had the NY Post’s Maggie Haberman announced his appearance as “unusual” and “surprising”?

By the time it was over, it was clear why. We had witnessed this politically independent, world-class police commissioner quietly employ a few dry statistics and facts to slide an anvil off a ledge, allowing gravity to deliver its full weight upon Barack Obama’s head.

I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. It sounds like stimulus $$ at work to me. Holder and Obama wouldn't drop this on NY without some federal funds for the increased security requirements. Would they?

This seems to be the will of the current administration being shoved down the throats of the people.

Obama has as part of his DNA to be an agitator and contrarian. He does things just to agitate and watches in glee as he ruffles the feathers of the masses. It is not about right and wrong, good and bad, he is a first class sh*t-disturber who thinks up things to throw everyone off balance that way he can get what he wants while we chase our tails and feign the outrage which he knows we will never act on.

He really enjoys this, and really doesn't give a crap about how anyone feels.

Narcisist in Chief!

This just further evidence of this administration's total lack of experience and lack of critical thinking.
This what happens when the 60's hippies get affirmative action credentials and take over our schools, MSM and now our government.
Not only is Islam now a race but drivers of pickups are racist.
And then there is that CO2 AGW, melting Polar Bears and Glaciers nonsense.

That grinding, shrieking, tearing metal sound you hear is the sound of millions of New York liberals mentally trying to shift gears, as they come to the realization that their government, their guy, blessed Barry, The One, does not give a rip if they live or die.

Transmissions appear to be pretty rusty and crunchy, they've been in Reverse for so long its really hard to shift into a forward gear. I predict quite a few head explosions in the coming weeks.

Obam-uh will probably get Air Force One to buzz Manhattan again at the start of the trial, just as a photo op.
It is all about HIM, President tin-ear, after all.

Retired Marine Corps Colonel?

Don't mess wid dat!

Any chance they can hold the trial somewhere in the neighborhood of 760 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017. After all, the "World President" and Nobel Prize winner should not snub his international fanclub headquarters.

Obama and his associates do not seem to consider the safety or well being of American citizens a top priority. As the article says, he is painting a bull's eye on the city. Terrorists will not be able to resist attempting to make history in the Big Apple.

Pathetic, just pathetic.

So you honestly think that terrorists simply forgot about attacking NYC until Obama moved the trial there?

Are you people serious?

you gotta wonder, really, why in NYC ?

but, that's politics !!!

Nobody thinks the terrorists forgot about wanting to attack NYC.
Residents of NYC probably don't want to live with the stress of the added incentive for attack, though.
Just my opinion.

Obama remembers his friends...He needs to feed them.

How can you guarantee work for years to an army of civil lawyers and to fill their pockets full of taxpayer cash if you send war criminals to face trial in front of a military tribunal?

Plus, how do you reward a bunch of lefty moonbat traitors that voted for you?

They should have chosen a location that does not increase the risk to millions of innocent people. Relocate the court to a secure, remote location rather than proceed with the drama of The Big Show.

If the past actions of Communist activists are considered.. Obama wants to demoralize NYC by pissing on & trivializing those that lost loved ones.

Of course NYC Police can protect it's citizens from terrorists ..., but who is going to protect the Obama judicial hair balls from the NYC citizens?

He is a heartless bastard who may trigger a revolution & become a Martyr

seeing it was the same repubs that brought us Iraq 1.0 AND Iraq 2.0, I will plop this one right ..... here .....

huge jump in US mil. veteran suicides. 18 a day. whodda thunk it.

The way I see it, Obama made a decision to try terrorists who directly attacked the US (or tried to) to be tried using the US court system. He separated them from terrorists who attacked American assets overseas. Enemy combatants go to military tribunals if it looks like they killed Americans overseas - they get the Geneva Conventions stuff - lucky them. NY makes sense because that is where most of the damage happened and most of the people from New York were murdered on 9/11. The panty bomber will likely be tried in Michigan because if he succeeded most of the people killed would probably be from Michigan. A civil trial is relatively transparent. These guys will be convicted by the very people that saw themselves and their city decimated. The trial will also bring out stuff on Gitmo, Bush, and 9/11 deniers, etc. This is a good thing because it will really show what happened and why and it will shut down all this anti-Bush and Gitmo stuff. I go to NY an awful lot and it is true that they are turning into a bunch of girly-boys. This guy in this article is basically saying that NY is not tough enough to try the a-holes that bombed their city and devastated their people because they are afraid.

What can you expect from someone who has yet to operate a popcicle stand?

Cconn - Chairman O recently said "We are at war" when referring to Alkaeda (however the hell its spelt). Those you are at war against are NOT entitled to the rights that your citizens are afforded.

When those you are at war against are captured they go to military trials. Period. The Chairman is making a mokery of the US justice system and insults its citizens by according rights to these radical murdering thugs.

I hope New Yorkers are plenty mad enough to turf that most idiotic and annoying Chuck Shumer out of office this fall too.

Oh, help! Yelp! We're afwaid of the big bad terrorists if we have a trial in New York! Boo-hoo! Yipes! I think I just wet myself!

After all, it's not like the terrrists hated us before! Oh please, let's don't do Anything that might inflame or enrage them! All hail our terrorist overlord masters!

In the words of GB, "They're progressive radicals and will stop at nothing". I do not think this is incompetence, I think this is conspiracy. There's way, way too many things going south for it to be accident. M'thinks that this is deliberate.

New Yorkers SAY NO!! LOUDLY!! AND OFTEN!!

sda wimp, knock it off. If you came face to face with a real terrorist you would do more than wet yourself.

Maybe they're planning to attack NYC and maybe they're not. But its own government choosing to paint a bright red target on its forehead is not going to help the odds.

And what happens when one of them is acquitted because evidence is held to be inadmissable?

The courts, rightly, bend over backwards to avoid convicting an innocent civilian. But the presumption of innocence is ridiculous for terrorists who more often than not claim "credit" for what they have done.

Obama would be going against everything he stands for, if he didn't have the trials in NYC. President of Harvard Law Review is not something you do for the heck of it. He probably puts the law above all else, including community standards. Sort of a good candidate for the supreme court, not POTUS.

Is there a link to the text of Rays speech?
Probably one to cut and paste...

It's a well know fact that al-Qaeda targets conform to a pattern.
The pattern is that they have to have high propaganda value in order to stir the Ummah to rise in the Jihad that the Koran commands they must participate in.
That is the goal of al-Qaeda and their reason for existence.

Holding the KSM trial in NYC makes NYC a beckoning target.
It's a come-hither to Jihadis and if I were an NYC resident I wouldn't like it.

The Ray Kellys of the NYPD put Toronto's Finest to shame.

On a trip to NYC a few years ago, a couple of us stopped to get directions from two NYPD officers, stationed on a corner in lower Manhattan. They were smart guys, both fluent in Spanish -- and were on the beat getting to know the 'hood and who "should" be there and who "shouldn't."

When they heard we were from Toronto and we volunteered how we felt about the Toronto Police Services (not good because they're dumbed down and ineffective against the real criminals and gangstas), they gave each other knowing glances and said, "Yeah, we know about the Toronto police. They're a joke."

Hmmm. How safe do we feel here in Toronto? Not particularly. You'll see police officers stationed at construction sites, in Timmie's getting their morning coffee, cruising in their marked cars -- though not ticketing glaring traffic offenses like drivers doing U-turns, right in front of them, on Bloor Street in the middle of rush hour -- protecting Hamas and Hezbollah demonstrators, harassing Israeli supporters, but is there any sense that they're taking care of business protecting us FROM the criminal and terrorist elements in our city?

No.

Please, God, send Toronto a Ray Kelly. I believe in miracles.

Our family spent three days in New York just prior to this years New Years eve. It is easy to see why crime has dropped. The police were everywhere, on foot, vehicle and even horses. There had to be two on every street corner near Times Square. It impressed me that the majority were on foot....we just don't see that in any Canadian City, our cops like driving around in two member units. They were very visible and invisible, as our taxu driver said, "there are more undercover than you can see"
I felt perfectly safe while there.

Gulliani had a vision that cutting down on petty street crime would be more productive than going after the big names. He seems to have been right.

Germany has a similar style of law enforcement. There's very little street crime, because the cops are very aggressive in keeping order. It makes the average citizen feel a lot more secure, and that's what we pay them for, isn't it?

The only problem I see, is the cost of hiring so many cops. When you travel in the States, they're everywhere. It seems you can't drive more than a few miles, on a freeway, without seeing at least one cruiser.

dp, President of the Harvard Law review was very much something Obama did just for the hell of it. There was a time when it was the prerogative of the top student in the school; by the time he came along, it was merely a prize in a popularity contest, and he reckoned most people wouldn't know the difference. And in your case, he was clearly right.

This is a very dangerous move by Obama...only now will terrorists see the value of targeting New York City for a terrorist attack, and the potential damage it could do to the nations economy by striking at its economic center.

Er wait...I guess they already knew that back in 2001? Seriously, the right has gone off a cliff (not saying the dems are better, I'm saying the right is painting itself into a corner and becoming increasingly irrelevant as it continues to bluster about non-issues).
