This wussy touchy-feely attitude may prove our undoing if we do not snap out of it. The assaults such as the "bullock bomber" seem to be escalating in frequency.
I grew up in Richmond, BC. I write this now partly because I can't shake the image of communist statuary adorning the streets of my hometown.
I learned to box at about that age and could fight if need be but it was never my thing.
However at 2 and Granville there was a church with a
lot in beside and a huge grass field behind it. Making for a great baseball field.
It was August and the pick up ball game started around 9 or 10 in the morning and went until maybe
1:30-2:00 in the afternoon. It was pure joy.
Afterward I was laying on the grassy knoll leading up to the road under a tree looking up at the leaves blowing in the breeze. That was sheer contentment.
Until you get a teen stuck to the end of your age I personally figure that's what life should be. But that's just me.
I did a quick internet search, and there is a possibility both of these pint sized pugilists may still be alive!
There are several persons named Pierre ("What you talking "bout") Willis of around age 80 living in Florida, and also several Jimmy ("Ever") Reddys.
They would have been too young to participate in WWII and the Korean War, therefore the likelihood they are still alive.
Have a look at all the men in this picture of Jack Dempsey and Harry Houdini. This could be an advertisement for the NRA. Talk about a rough crowd to please!!
Not sure why my original post never came up. My apologies for the double post if it does show up later.
Jack Dempsey was one of the greats however with a mere 83 fights he doesn't hold a candle to the greatest fighter ever to come out of Canada Sam Langford had 314 fights and Dempsey himself once said "The hell I feared no man. There was one man I wouldn't fight because I knew he would flatten me. I was afraid of Sam Langford" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Langford
I'm as much a "purest" when it comes to sports as anyone; but I must say, as a father of a 14yr old girl who is a boxer, I am happy for most, if not all of the protections that are insisted on by boxing clubs and organizations today.
12 years is the youngest (I believe) allowed to join the sport in Saskatchewan, and my youngest is counting the days until her 12th b-day.
So a bunch of you posted a few 'muscle' comments, and what? What's going to change to the public schools where a principal has power to prohibit the students from being on snow in winter, from running during recess or from speaking during recess when in the corridor?
What have you done to fix the society?
Am I alone in fighting the system, in training my two sons in full contact martial arts since they were 7 and instructing them to stand up to the bullies? Where is the rest of you? Why do you allow your Canadian police officers to yell at me for daring to call them after one of my sons received a written death threat at school and the staff went out of their way to destroy the note?
What surprises me is that Jack Dempsey looks so "normal". A lot of the recent boxing champs must be ingesting anabolic steroids morning, noon, and night. I think we, or at least I, tend to forget what the pre-steroid era was like.
hmmmph!...at MY school(christian bros of ireland and a wonderful body of men they were to be sure bedad)there was a boxing ring in the gym that was used continually...and very often for settling playground disputes...
to this day nothing gives me more pleasure than thumping someone good and proper....and nothing gives me less pleasure than being thumped good and proper.....and so,a certain symmetry has been achieved....a balance.
When boys were allowed to be boys (and girls were allowed to be girls).
I mentioned this a few years ago, but it may be worth reiterating. Aside from the feminazis, who've done everything they can to knock testosterone-based behaviour out of boys -- and to encourage it in girls -- apparently fish in North America are beginning to demonstrate characteristics of both genders due to pollution
(http://greatlakesecho.org/2009/10/09/studies-of-fish-sharing-male-and-female-characteristics-raise-concerns-about-great-lakes-contaminants/).
You know that expression, "It must be something in the water" to explain aberrant behaviour?
This reminded me of this cool boxing scene between two little kids in this excellent video for 'Doesn't Remind Me" by Audioslave circa 2005. There are political overtones here but it's still great.
well tommy me boy....that's a long story indeed...but i WILL admit to having a...ahem...connection to that fine institution for inculcating Catholic morality .....and the creation of decent moral fine upstanding young men...
unfortunately i was rather TOO moral and upstanding for the good brothers who summarily ejected me from the precincts....a bloody trumped up job it was too....all lies..all bloody lies i tell you...all bloody rumour and innuendo !
uh, yes, well aaron, you're setting your boys up for some serious legal problems and Im not just tossing out a cliche. the prosecution logic will be that since they were well trained in the martial arts, it was incumbent on them to avoid the confrontation and back down.
I backed down for the better part of 50 years and the very first time I finally really stood my ground I got blamed for the whole thing.
you have to run in terror at the thought of a fight because if you lose there will be a blizzard of shouldacoulda and if you win then obviously you wanted the fight.
Ah boxing that most honest of sports. Since the object of any sport is to 'beat' your opponent it is truly refreshing in boxing to actually Beat your opponent.
I agree with you, batb, it is the aim of the World Order outfit to make boys weak and fearful and to make girls mean and brutish. Why? Because this inversion will completely destroy the most powerful anti slavery union known to mankind - the family union/unit.
Boys should learn how to fight so that when they grow up they can protect their wives and children and thus earn themselves some respect. Women do not want to fight for weak men; they want to be around strong men who will protect them! Women have contempt for 'dependant' weak men. The msm say the opposite to my above statement but it is nevertheless true.
You are all talk.

That is, ahem, Canadian conservatism at the moment Aaron.
You know. $170 billion new debt. A carbon tax. No reform of Access to Infomation. 2,800 patronage appointments. Neutered and incomplete Accountability Act. Nuclear medicine testing compromised.
That said, it's imperative that your children know how to react when it is necessary, regardless of the legal and social ramifications. Self preservation and dignity above all else and helping those that need it is a close second. The rest is trivial at the crucial moments in life.
I believe one of the best life lessons one can draw from (sporting) combat is respect for others, discovery of one's own limits, and an appropriate understanding of risk/reward with real consequences.
Seeing this picture reminds me how much has changed, even over the past 30 years.
You're right, jema54, there's no more successful fighting unit against tyranny than the nuclear family: dad, mom, kids.
And, of course, that's why the Liberal$ were so Hell-bent-for-leather on getting mothers outside the home: It made money for their coffers (you know? taxes) and made sure that moms were no longer watch[wo]men on the watchtower.
Chaos now reigns -- and it's the UN/NWO to the rescue.
Hey Aaron yer wheel's still spinnin' but yer hamster died. In case you are curious the senate was trying to amend legislation that had received unanimous approval in the house. Now how is any government going to run with clowns like that stopping the parade.
Why this blog? Until this moment
I have been forced

In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice

Review, Bob, Review.
Ah... back in the days before we got all wussy touchy-feely.
It is amazing what children did in the days before having a Safe Schools Czar.
More punchy-thwacky than touchy-feely.
I love the ref. He's got the hairy eyeball on these tykes - no slacking! Men were men back then and kindergarteners were tough little SOBs.
Back in the days before we understood the term "diffuse brain injury".
Also back in the day when people were allowed to decide what risks they were going to take, instead of some wise man deciding for them.
Still my friends, all is not lost. Present day parallel, the Junior X-Games. Also mini-motocross, junior dragster series, football, etc.
If you lived anywhere in the States in 1937 and your folks named you "Pierre," you better damn well learn to throw a punch!
This wussy touchy-feely attitude may prove our undoing if we do not snap out of it. The assaults such as the "bullock bomber" seem to be escalating in frequency.
Wonder if either of the two pugilists turned out to be Liberal MP's or maybe even Liberal Senators? (with all that early childhood brain damage!)
Liberal = Democratic
And look at the mom left of the ref. at front-row middle. Could she be more thrilled?
And now they can't even play tag at recess because being "it" might hurt the little darlings feelings.Score another one for the fem-nazis.
Yeah well they used to have nude pageants in the US.....that featured "Miss Junior Miss" as well.
Different times.......
I think the happy mom must belong to the little guy in the striped shirt. Looks like he is about to land a round house right on his opponent.
That's why my boys are in soccer and hockey. Gotta learn to give/take a knock and get back up on your feet.
There's so much to be learned from sport....
That referee is Jack Dempsey.
Oh, that Jack Dempsey!
Must be an old virus attached, can't move my mouse off the picture.
;-)

John, where did you go to school? I was a Vancouver College.
Ah, yes.
When boys were allowed to be boys (and girls were allowed to be girls).

in you endo , is hardly the word to use around a catholic boys school.

Quick: someone forward this to Obama's "safe schools" czar, Kevin Jennings. I hear he's into fisticuffs.
cal2.....
what's that remark supposed to mean....you bein' a wise guy cal ?....you callin' me a catamite or sumpin ?
of course i dunno fersure but anyway i heard it only hurts the first time....is that right cal2?
John, what year(s)?
Wow, did that ever bring back some memories!!
The "old" guy on our block, he was probably all of 50, used to have his basement set up as a boxing ring and weight lifting gym.
We used to go down there, put the gloves on and pound away on each other.
Ah boxing that most honest of sports. Since the object of any sport is to 'beat' your opponent it is truly refreshing in boxing to actually Beat your opponent.

yer right there hardboiled 3:32. Isn't amazing the damage a liberal dominated senate can do?
C_G
Very true, in our liberal reality person who wins the fight/confrontation is always to blame.
That said, it's imperative that your children know how to react when it is necessary, regardless of the legal and social ramifications. Self preservation and dignity above all else and helping those that need it is a close second. The rest is trivial at the crucial moments in life.
very true Indiana.

Yeah, it's senate's fault. Big 'YEAH' to you, Joe.
What have you done? Have you stared down a socialist today?
Hey Aaron no offence but we probably have all experienced those that exhibit "what you don't know don't hurt you" syndrome.
Only parents and caring mentors can counter that type of thinking, other than that life holds the honor.
So until society cries for change and it will, best to be content waiting for the inevitable.
Hey Aaron yer wheel's still spinnin' but yer hamster died. In case you are curious the senate was trying to amend legislation that had received unanimous approval in the house. Now how is any government going to run with clowns like that stopping the parade.
NWO (New World Order) = OWG (One World Government)
wouldnt know. see, Im a proddy.
