The Sound Of Settled Science

Climategate-I was the revelation that climate scientists crusading over global warming at East Anglia University had tried to censor inconvenient data and shut dissenters out of academic journals. Climategate-II is the revelation that the 2007 report of the International Panel on Climate Change, saying Himalayan glaciers might disappear by 2035, was not science at all but idle, unsubstantiated speculation.

It speaks volumes for the huge biases within IPCC that it took two years for this hoax to be exposed. Any hoax opposing the global warming thesis would be exposed in ten seconds flat. The IPCC is willing to swallow unexamined what it finds convenient, while raising a thousand technical objections to anything inconvenient. This is religious crusading, not objective science. The tactics being used to discredit and destroy heretics is reminiscent of the Spanish Inquisition."

Read the whole thing. Then compare the depth of detail it contains with this curiously vague version.

In a shocking coincidence - Al Gore tries to cool ‘climate spin’ by correcting claims of North pole thaw

Update: Another case of wet feet?

Australia’s peak science agency, the CSIRO, has backed away from attributing a decade of drought in Tasmania to climate change, claiming ‘’the jury is still out’’ on the science …

As shown in this Pielke, Jr statement, the IPCC makes things up to advance the alarmism story.

http://rogerpielkejr.blogspot.com/2010/01/what-does-pielke-think-about-this.html

The climate change deniers can stick their heads in the sand all they want or any other place for that matter. However, the sooner governments confront this real issue head on and introduce meaningful legislation to curb carbon emissions, such as cap and trade, carbon tax, carbon recapture (as is being studied in Saskatchewan and is a favorite of the Harper government), mandated maximum emission on vehicles (as Quebec and other jurisdictions have done), the better off our environment will be. Hitting people in the pocket book is the most effective way to change behavior. Incidentally, in a poll released this week, shows 75% of Quebecois dissatisfied with the Harper government and one of the primary issues of dissatisfaction is the government's approach to climate change. I always knew there was something special about Quebec and its people.

Misspoke = lying. I wish that the media would actually use the right terminology. Al Gore = liar.

"I always knew there was something special about Quebec and its people."

So did I. What I don't understand is why they are not all wearing helmuts.

Note the very subtle change in terminology in the CBC article - "climate change critics" rather than the usual "climate change skeptics" or "climate change denialists".

Obama promised change. He's getting it, but not in a way that'll make him happy.

No one is denying that the climate changes. What they are questioning is the insane fixation on carbon as the principle cause and human activity as the main contributor. Most if not all of the data supporting this fiction has been fabricated, manipulated or selectively parsed to support an agenda not resolve an issue. I am reminded of the old adage, if a thousand people say a stupid thing it remains a stupid thing regardless. T, your rant is just noise in the pipe line. That is all.

T says "I always knew there was something special about Quebec and its people."

Yeah....they live off others and pretend they are morally superior.

T is particularly dense.

The real question here is does

T = tyrant
T = trash
T = transparent
T = throwback
T = tautology
T = tedious

or all of the above?

Noise in the pipe line, Brian Mallard. Is that why the Saskatchewan and the federal government are investing millions into the study of carbon recapture? Is that why more governments are looking at a carbon tax? Is this why Sask Power is looking at increasing the power generated from wind turbines? I guess it is all just noise in the pipe line.

First one to compare T to me gets a$$ kicking!

T - your call to experts to substantiat your position is just what Mallard said - a thousand voices saying stupid things.

After the Senate election yesterday T you can kiss your desire for "Hitting people in the pocket book" goodbye as you did with your credibility and your respect for your momma long ago.

We have to assume Al Gore will soon be coming forward and admitting he was taken in by false information and apologize and return his awards. He can keep his Oscar, chalk it up as a spoof, pure fiction. Well, don't hold your breath.

Gore is realizing that his credibility is undermined. A normal consequence of overselling a proposition. Its not like AGW proponents were not warned that trying to short circuit things led to a longer process. Claims that MAY have been easily proven before will be double checked, triple checked etc.

Things were never as bad as AGW proponents indicated. If they had spent more time studying, being self criticial etc then perhaps there would be a true consensus around what teh problem is, how serious or unserious it is and we might have a far better understanding of how our climate works.

But we have blown 10 years shouting dissenters down. "T" if you really believe this is a problem, the people you should be angriest with, the ones you should proverbially hang from the flag pole, are GOre and the AGW proponents who wasted the last 10 years with politics, schemes and chicanery.

Fortunately, I dont believe the problem is as imminent as indicated. But for crying out loud, focus on the science, the process and the issues not on the politics of squealching opposition.

"No one is denying that the climate changes."
~Brian Mallard

Correct, Brian.

I specifically deny that human activity has an impact on climate.
I also deny that CO2 is a toxin.
I deny that the IPCC should even exist.

I don't deny that in some cases, in some places, actual pollution from human activity is a problem.

T: Nothing like beating your head to a mushy pulp with a broken hockey stick is there?

""No one is denying that the climate changes."
~Brian Mallard

And nobody is denying water is wet, but saying "water wet" sounds just plain stupid.

And the Warmongers, global warming hysterics and corrupt climate scientists still peddle the ridiculous phrase "Climate Change"

"Australia’s peak science agency, the CSIRO, has backed away from attributing a decade of drought in Tasmania to climate change, claiming ‘’the jury is still out’’ on the science..."

Actually the jury should be pronouncing guilty on the AGW scam artists.

Al Gore's Weather (AGW) Lying School.

Who is the "UN Climate Chief"?

TimesUK-MSM says the "UN Climate Chief" is "Jean-Pascal van Ypersele'".

"The vice-chairman of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has admitted that the group made a mistake in asserting that Himalayan glaciers could disappear by 2035."

But, Choo-Choo Pachauri is Chairman.

Choo-Choo is in hiding.

What gives? More deceit, lies, and lying; and, the TimesUK-MSM is complicit in the AGW Fraud.
...-

"UN climate chief admits mistake on Himalayan glaciers warning"

"Some people will attempt to use it to damage the credibility of the IPCC; but if we can uncover it, and explain it and change it, it should strengthen the IPCC's credibility, showing that we are ready to learn from our mistakes."

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article6994774.ece

"Fortunately, I dont believe the problem is as imminent as indicated. But for crying out loud, focus on the science, the process and the issues not on the politics of squealching opposition."

Fair enough Stephen, but if we're going to be logical and balanced then we must analyze the cost/benefit of trying to reverse so called AGW vs coping with it. When the first thing I hear is we need your money(especially from the political left), I'm sceptical.

Arguing with people like T is, like discussing religion with a Jehovah's Witness, a total waste of time. He comes across as an old-time preacher raining hellfire and damnation on sinners. Best to ignore him.

The IPCC thugocracy...

cf Lord Monckton's headlong rush to the pavement in Copenhagen...

A more appropriate heading to the post would be:

"The Sound of Settled FEAR MONGERING and BODILY HARM."

Science would be the least of their cares...

IPCC and credibility are becoming mutually exclusive terms.

Indiana,

I agree and your comment cuts to the problem. This has been my issue as well, why spend trillions on a problem we dont understand...that doesnt deny that the problem is there but you cant fight ghosts, so to speak. The AGW group hasnt been able to unravel natural from man made. The claim now is warming has paused, go back 5 years and the claaims were that AGW washed any natural effect out, based solely on the idea that CO2 is increasing.

Apparently there are natural effects that wash out whatever AGW does. wow thats a different proposition, leads to different predicitions and time scales and this is even before you start the cost benefit stuff on mitigation versus ending....it only makes the mitigation costs much lower since the AGW process would apparently take longer and be smaller than expected.

Once again, we really need to get a hndle on the science....because you cannot make policy without a proper scientific basis....that certainly isnt formed by shouting down and body checking free inquiry.

"After all the fuss about the content of e-mails stolen last year from the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit, this new slip-up just poisons climate science's reputation further."

"A Costly Mistake
UN Climate Experts Under Fire for Glacier Melt Error

By Christoph Seidler

In its 2007 report on climate change, the United Nations included a prediction that the Himalayan glaciers had a high probability of melting by 2035 -- a forecast that came as an unpleasant surprise for many. But the forecast is wrong and the Nobel Prize-winning UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change is be criticized heavily for its methods.

If they had only listened to Georg Kaser, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) would have been spared deep embarrassment. The glacier specialist from the University of Innsbruck was one of the lead authors of the first part of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning body's 2007 Fourth Assessment Report, or AR4. The second part of the paper stated that the probability of Himalayan glaciers "disappearing by the year 2035 and perhaps sooner is very high."

"This date -- 2035 -- is almost completely absurd," Kaser told SPIEGEL ONLINE. "No one could take that number seriously." The glacier ice is so thick that it could not melt in the specified time period. To do so global warming would need to be two or three times higher than currently expected. But at current rates, this is a physical impossibility."

The differnce is the Jehovah's Witness's are trying to save you, whereas T is trying to "make sex with you".

exactly, Justthinkin @2:58 - whenever anyone says 'we must do something' run the other way because 'we' means you!

I'm dummer now after watching that Australian clip via Tim Blair.
Truth: I couldn't watch the whole thing.

Yep, that's why I did not expect a response from him.

Since JW's do not recognize Jesus as the Son of God, it's difficult to say what they stand for ... I'd guess some type of re-packaged Judaism.

T sorry I did not get back to you earlier but I have a job that requires my time and attention. As to your points, Please review the following:

Is that why the Saskatchewan and the federal government are investing millions into the study of carbon recapture?
Study is a good thing. Rigging the results to reflect your unsubstantiated beliefs to achieve a political objective is reprehensible

Is that why more governments are looking at a carbon tax?
This is just one more mechanism to get their hand in the taxpayer’s pocket while posturing as environmental saviors. Charlatans all of them.

Is this why Sask Power is looking at increasing the power generated from wind turbines?
Please review this information and tell me that they are doing not looking. http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/013115.html#c462456
Looking costs nothing and shows curiosity. Doing costs are outrageous and shows stupidity. I hope Sask Power is curious not stupid.

Yeah, but T still wants to "make sex with you".

T
If you want to know why the feds are investing in carbon capture, I suggest you make yourself acquainted with one Dr. Clement Bowman-OC (and a bunch of other awards.)
He has recognized the need for carbon as a component in producing other forms of energy.
He is particularly fond of coal, which has a high carbon content.

"Angry Pachauri threatens to sue UK daily

It is an all-out war of words between IPCC chief RK Pachauri and UK newspaper The Sunday Telegraph. A day after the newspaper published a stinging article calling Pachauri a hypocrite, the TERI chairman has hit right back. Pachauri, who is the chief of the UN panel on climate change, has accused Telegraph of carrying out "a sustained vendetta" against him.

In a letter addressed to the editor of the Sunday Telegraph, Pachauri said he does not receive any payment, honoraria or compensation for work done for the IPCC, adding that his association with various organisations are limited to providing advice on sustainable energy.

Pachuari has asked the newspaper to publish his letter within a week hinting that if they do not do so, he might pursue legal action.

Soon after RK Pachauri sent out this letter, Dr Richard North - the journalist who co-authored the article on Pachauri appeared on the NEWSHOUR and defended his article, saying that there's absolutely no inaccuracy in what has been said."

Poor Al G, miscalculations can happen to anyone. Hey, last night it happened to Bumbling Barack. Today he says post Massachusetts Massacre that he didn't listen to the people. Well wasn't that one of the talking points about you during election 2008 - you listened? Well now hear this: Haiti is about to be the next game changer for you - NOT health care. When will Obama get his priorities straight? It's immigration reform before or in tandem with health care reform and not afterward. Haiti is an immigration time bomb waiting to go off and you are not prepared, Barack. Kate.

Over the past six months or so I have noticed one thing about SDA that I find discouraging. I find the posters seem to be more interested in slagging each other and people like T rather than commenting on the subject, stating their piece and adding a link. I find myself coming to SDA to see what you have to say, following your links but passing on the comments which I used to enjoy. It also seems that the interesting and knowable comments are becoming fewer and fewer. Is it just me? I am not trying to be a jerk or put anyone down, that’s just my feelings.

The above thread had 36 comments and 32 of those were referring to T. T must enjoy all the attention he is given, he keeps hanging around.

Read the IPCC statement.
If you "review" it, you too [like Christopher Monckton] can say you are a Nobel Prize winner.

Meanwhile --drip, drip, drip .....
Glacial retreat in Himalaya using Indian Remote Sensing satellite data
Conclusion 17 Oct 2009
This investigation was carried out for 466 glaciers in the highly glaciered Himalayan basins, namely Baspa, Parbatiand Chenab. Normally in the Himalayas, retreat is measured at well-developed and easily accessible valley glaciers. This study is now extended to small mountain glaciers and ice fields. The investigation has shown overall 21% reduction in glacial area from the middle of the last century.
Mean area of glacial extent was reduced from 1.4 to 0.32 sq. km between 1962 and 2001. In addition, the number of glaciers has increased between 1962 and 2001; however, total areal extent has reduced. The number of glaciers has increased due to fragmentation.

Count your reference to the idiot "T" also western Canadian. The people on this thread are interested in truth and stupidity, and in the quest to understand how stupid some people are, and why the truth is covered up and the stupid believe lies and distortions, we sometimes comment on the stupidity of the T's and John Crosses of the world, this is to remind you teterers to hold fast and think for yourselves. There is no tooth fairy, no easter bunny, no santa clause and no GLOBAL WARMING, get it. Take a deep breath and thank whoever that America is slowly coming out of their Oprah induced coma and will soon put the run on the Goricles Obongos and Suzuker type fraud artists and charlatans. Think what this scam has cost the western world so far, if it is not stopped through exposure, kiss your house, car bank account, etc goodbye!

I have been led to believe that it takes a great deal of carbon to extract hydrogen from water.
As hydrogen fuel cells are being examined as an alternative form of energy, it makes sense for
a carbon capture program to be in place.
Carbon can be our friend.
