Having served its purpose...
"A WARNING that climate change will melt most of the Himalayan glaciers by 2035 is likely to be retracted after a series of scientific blunders by the United Nations body that issued it.
Two years ago the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a benchmark report that was claimed to incorporate the latest and most detailed research into the impact of global warming. A central claim was the world's glaciers were melting so fast that those in the Himalayas could vanish by 2035.
In the past few days the scientists behind the warning have admitted that it was based on a news story in the New Scientist, a popular science journal, published eight years before the IPCC's 2007 report.
It has also emerged that the New Scientist report was itself based on a short telephone interview with Syed Hasnain, a little-known Indian scientist then based at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi."

I'm shocked...shocked....
The IPCC has thousands of "scientists" reviewing "peer-revued" papers.......
This sounds like that FBI "study" (4X as likely to be murdered if a gun in the house) which was copied from a Sarah Brady Foundation study which was based upon a "letter to the editor" to the Kansas City Star, by a teenager who, with his dad's guidance, reviewed newspaper clippings.
I'm just glad that these people don't want to appropriate our means of production and subject us to global socialism.....
aww nuts.
They also transcribed the dates:
According to Kotlyakov, the loss of 80% of the extrapolar glaciation on the Earth's surface will be by 2350, not 2035. And even after 2350 there will still be some glaciers surviving in the Karakoram, the Himalayas, and in parts of Tibet.

"BBC forecast for Met Office: changeable
BUFFETED by complaints about its inaccurate weather forecasts, the Met Office now faces being dumped by the BBC after almost 90 years.
The Met Office contract with the BBC expires in April and the broadcaster has begun talks with Metra, the national forecaster for New Zealand, as a possible alternative.
The BBC put the contract out to tender to ensure “best value for money”, but its timing coincides with a storm over the Met Office’s accuracy.
Last July the state-owned forecaster’s predictions for a “barbecue summer” turned into a washout. And its forecast for a mild winter attracted derision when temperatures recently plunged as low as -22C."

But you can never really repress the eternal optimist idiot poster.
'This is good news for all concerned, especially the millions who depend on glacier melt water. It gives us more time to rectify the situation and decarbonise our economy.'
an error bar of 300 years, what the hey. taking the error the other way would predate most of the era of scientific investigation.
"Lal himself admits he knows little about glaciers."
Makes me wonder who oversaw the section on global temperature trends. Daffy Duck?
As this scam unravels, and the rats run for the exits, they become more like ex smokers when some poor shlep that still smokes lights up. Jail the bastards starting with Gore and Suzuki, then fire all the "Environment ministers" that bought into this scam, name Renner comes to mind here in Alberta. Read the book Madoff and you will see how the simple mind of a believer works.
" Having served it's purpose"... At first I thought this was going to be about the 'Afghan detainees'.
Bartinski...right on! Gore and Suzuki's assets should be seized as proceeds of crime. And lets not forget about the name "Prentice" ... Lizzie would look good on an ice floe, in the loving arms of Polar Bear....with a coke of course...
I moseyed over to the CBC's 'Technology and Science' pages to see if they had taken notice of this development. They hadn't,much to my surprise, but they did have this article up which may explain why Suzuki hasn't been seen around lately.FIRE.THEM.ALL.---http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2010/01/15/tech-biology-fruit-fly-shave.html
That should read "Bartinsky"... sorry.
I am sure the MSM will be all over this!
just more of the excellent "peer reviewed" climate science.
Makes me wonder what other "science" is being fed to us from the mostly tax funded science communities.
I say pull the grants. Dr. David Suzuki has said that there should be criminal charges for some global warming deniers but these government funded quacks should be the ones facing jail time.
"Some scientists have questioned how the IPCC could have allowed such a mistake into print. Perhaps the most likely reason was lack of expertise."
No. The reason this sort of thing ever happens is that the "researchers" start with a conclusion and then look for evidence to prove it while disregarding contrary evidence. If the evidence is thin, then you take it from an article in a popular magazine, if you have to.
Funny how Jones, Mann and other "scientists" expressed pride in the Climategate emails over keeping certain unhelpful articles out of the IPCC report, or prevented their publication altogether, but were ok with this kind of garbage. Well, not "funny" -- but you get my point.
Money quotes from the article:
"Professor Murari Lal, who oversaw the chapter on glaciers...."
"Some scientists have questioned how the IPCC could have allowed such a mistake into print. Perhaps the most likely reason was lack of expertise. _Lal himself admits he knows little about glaciers_. "I am not an expert on glaciers.and I have not visited the region so I have to rely on credible published research. The comments in the WWF report were made by a respected Indian scientist and it was reasonable to assume he knew what he was talking about," he said."
The assupmtions are settled!
Michael Enright has two science journalists on his program right now. They are splitting and roasting the media. Why the whole thing has propagated. Michael said "Are the books cooked?" answer. Yes.
This is well worth the listen. Is that clean air?
http://www.cbc.ca/thesundayedition/
Great news regarding Michael Enright and the Sunday Edition. Cracks are finally beginning to appear and they will get bigger. Maybe now the MSM will begin covering this fraud.
Kate,
Thanks for allowing us to post here. There should be an award for yourself and a few others who spoke about this scam when the MSM and politicians tried to sweep it under the rug. There is no victory yet. We must keep on.
PS: It was a whistleblower, It was not a hacker.
Admittedly I a am not a glacier expert, however I suspect if the Himalayan glaciers melt, their tremendous weight lifted on the region would cause the earth beneath the area covered by the glaciers to rise up further to compensate the massive weight pressure release .
That however might cause the earth below the United Nations building in New York to sink into the bowels of the earth as a direct result of the Himalayan Glacier melt elsewhwere.
Faster, faster!
Here's another: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1243846/Met-Office-accused-warm-bias-BBC-weatherman.html
if Himalayan moutain get face melting ice then good for indian can use more water clean for their farm under water
no more icekating or ski for indian soon(lol)
I am serious now
put water tup under the moutain to boil or cold the ice by builting like air condition
by flow of water or air to keep it cold or
warm
if Iran could go under mountain for doing all job
so as Indian can built new scinetis from Canada to made new reaserch to devloep like
snake kind of tube curle to each otehr
blow the air and keep snow colder like refrigerator freezer
or put water warm to keep it warm it can possible
just need scineits to built one
we have it in small size now they need to keep bigger size
The Three Amigos score a hat trick.
From the Times' article:
"The lead role in that process was played by Graham Cogley, a geographer from Trent University in Ontario, Canada, who had long been unhappy with the IPCC's finding."
McIntyre, Watts, and now Cogley you do Canada proud..
The importance of glaciers is a bit overblown. Anyone who's stopped at the Athabasca glacier can tell you, there's only a small trickle coming off the glacier itself. The Athabasca river is fed, mainly, by winter snow melt. In fact, most glacier fed rivers only get a small part of their volume from the glacier. Most of the water comes from precipitation.
That's the biggest mistake the global warming crowd makes, predicting damaging changes in precipitation. It's almost impossible to predict how the patterns might shift, as warming continues.

"Told ya so…IPCC to retract claim on Himalayan Glacier Melt – Pachauri’s “arrogance” claim backfires
The head of the IPCC Dr. Rajenda Pachauri had said: “India was ‘arrogant’ to deny global warming link to melting glaciers. From the Guardian article:
Two years ago, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the UN agency which evaluates the risk from global warming, warned the glaciers were receding faster than in any other part of the world and could “disappear altogether by 2035 if not sooner”.
Today Ramesh denied any such risk existed: “There is no conclusive scientific evidence to link global warming with what is happening in the Himalayan glaciers.” The minister added although some glaciers are receding they were doing so at a rate that was not “historically alarming”.
However, Rajendra Pachauri, the chairman of the IPCC, told the Guardian: “We have a very clear idea of what is happening. I don’t know why the minister is supporting this unsubstantiated research. It is an extremely arrogant statement.”

From Haiti?
"Rajendra Pachauri, the IPCC chairman, has previously dismissed criticism of the Himalayas claim as “voodoo science”." (see WUWT)
"According to atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh, “many [scientists] are now searching for a way to back out quietly, without having their professional careers ruined.”"

"The Crumbling Pillars of Climate Change
One well accepted definition of the “Three Pillars of Science” lists the three as theory, experimentation and computation. For climate science this translates into climate theory, gathering climate data, and climate modeling. The three pillars are due an update in this post Copenhagen, post Climategate world. After reviewing the past year's crop of discoveries and disclosures, it seems that all three pillars are still wobbly at best—even without questionable conduct on the part of warm-mongering researchers.
No doubt about it, it has been a hard year for the global warming true believers—a frigid cold winter, Climategate, and faltering political support, all capped off by the yawn-in at Copenhagen. Among the public, global warming fatigue continues to spread while global warming boosters become ever shriller. But what about the actual science behind the global warming theory? In The Resilient Earth we based our evaluation of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) on the three pillars of climate science given above. This article revisits the evaluation of each pillar starting with the state of climate theory.

The IPCC's report on glaciers was overseen by someone who knows very little about glaciers. No big surprise. If I'm not mistaken the report on the medical consequences of global warming was overseen by a dietician.

"*“As discussed in the thematic introduction to this regional status review, there is particular concern at the alarming rate of retreat of Himalayan glaciers. In 1999, a report by the Working Group on Himalayan Glaciology (WGHG) of the International Commission for Snow and Ice (ICSI) stated: “glaciers in the Himalayas are receding faster than in any other part of the world and, if the present rate continues, the livelihood of them disappearing by the year 2035 is very high”"

"Reasonable to Assume" WTF kind of science is that?
The UN needed incompetent meatheads like Lal to insure that the (lack of) science was "not" questioned... The EU Global control of C02 was to be handled by the EU gangsters(Gore/Soros) and the EU communists....
Run you shit house Rats.. run
A few blunders doesn't change the fact that dumping CO2 into the air causes environmental effects that will be detremental to the human species, and other life on Earth.
They're not blunders, they are lies. That they were reported as "science" doesn't make it science. Real scientists welcome dissent and use it as a means to prove their hypothesis.
How do you know that dumping CO2 into the air will alter the environment, if it has yet to be measured that said dumping has actually changed the ratio of CO2?
and... how do you know it's "detremental"? I don't agree that it's detrimental, I think of CO2 as fertilizer in the air for plant growth. The kind folks that sell garden plants each year with the CO2 generators in their greenhouses concur.
a few blunders?

Freedom Manitoba is just an unwitting dupe for the UN Global Governance conspirators----a useful idiot.

If the msm is now commenting on Climategate it is BECAUSE bloggers like Kate unearthed the fraud - the msm got the 'tip' from the whistle-blower a month before the bloggers -the truth trickled down and now these 'reborn truthers' are pretending that they are 'concerned about the fraud' Ha Ha they would have cheered as hopinchangin flushed down our freedom for a carbon credit! I will never give them the satisfaction of going to their websites to hear them regurgitate what Kate was unravelling for months; fact by fact.
This 'd'jaja vus' movement is just like the 'Special Ed' naming Ted Morton as finance minister and picking a fight with the Feds movement- he would have never done either had Danielle Smith not forced him to do something by being so much better that that sorry dithering mess 'allowed' to be Premier of Alberta. Ted M. read the quote at the top of this page and get a grip or loose the respect of the people who were your friends and backers - you will be flushed out with the P.C.s if you stay in the manure pile. Go back to the backbench; resign and cross the floor after the election is called - if you still have some honor and self respect. Ted Morton would have never held any power position in Special Ed's cabinet if he did not believe that Ted's supporters would be sucked back into P.C. voting if Ted were a 'heavy'.
Another P.C. victory for Ed would see another shuffle - Ted to the back of the bus.
