Canadian Taxpayers Federation;
The Canadian "Human Rights" Commission (CHRC) has "placed itself in a position of deemed refusal" according to the Information Commissioner of Canada in response to complaints filed by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF). After months of wrangling with the federal government's chief censorship body, the CTF was able to obtain records from the CHRC revealing that Chief Commissar Jennifer Lynch spent much more on flights and hospitality than she revealed online, and that what she disclosed was at times nearly half of the actual cost.
The CTF filed three separate Access to Information Requests in August of 2009 to obtain details on Lynch's expenses. The CHRC refused to provide information within the legally allotted time frame as it would "unreasonably interfere with the operations of the [Commission]," but finally bowed to pressure and released the documents more than a month late.

….Algeria and Morocco….Bangladesh, Cameroon, Cuba, Kyrgyzstan, Russia….Saudi Arabia…..Malaysia… in whose mind is this collection of despots to advise on human rights?
One must wander who does the commissar talk to about at these meetings. Then again, the commissar probably or let me say definetly, does not care about human rights, this is the way to get into the “high society” the socialist aristocracy that does meetings in exotic places where the plebeians pay for their outings.
The woman should be fired, the CHRC should be cut out of federal and provicial budgets, if anybody wants one, maybe they should pick up a collection, see how much the population cares.
The avarice proves it's not about human rights, it's about you, Jennifer. No amount of money is going to cover that ache where your sold out soul languishes.

L/liberal$ always seem to think that a patronage appointment in the government, or being the government, means that taxpayers' dollars are their personal bank account.
I guess it doesn't occur to the media that this kind of money grab is in any way dishonourable, duplicitous, or constitutes fraud -- which would necessitate their exposure of such misuse of public funds, wouldn't it? -- seeing as many of them are recipients of the l/Liberal$' largesse and they like it that way.
Of course, this is why so many of the l/Liberal$ in government and the media loathe Stephen Harper. With him as Prime Minister, no more gravy train -- except for the Liberal$' patronage appointments in the CHRC.

Personal expenses seem minor when considered in the context of the total costs of the HRC across Canada, just in their existence, and especially in their abuse of power.

Lynch is a product of what Glenn Beck calls, the 'progressive' propaganda cult. She is a nasty, ego-centric, human hating, envy ridden, pimple on the nation. The pimple has come to a head (and seems to be a black head!) sooo..what is to be done?
Like others here, a very public trial, firing, seizing of all assets and jail time will help me to 'understand'.

Not at all surprised that Lynch and crew consider themselves above the law, after all laws only apply to the common folk, nest-ce pas? What is surprising and unacceptable however is the government's inaction. Not only must Lynch be removed (and not simply to be appointed to another position within government) but she must be prosecuted for breaking the law. After that the whole CHR Act and the CHRC must be demolished.
Aren't people supposed to go to jail for stealing government funds? I heard that someplace one time...

It's obvious there's an endemic pathology in this commission that holds it to be above the law and beyond scrutiny by mere mortals. This commission has gone rogue and needs PMO or Judicial intervention to clean it out.
Any SCC justice with even a modest deferment to the rule of law under charter legal rights will laugh that CHRC factum out of the courtroom.

The National Post ran an article on Thursday about the appeal of Hadjis's decision. I found the following section interesting:
"The Supreme Court of Canada last upheld Section 13 as a justifiable limit on free expression in 1990, in part on the basis of its remedial and non-punitive purpose. Eight years later, the penalty provision was added by Parliament, allowing for fines of $10,000."
"Mr. Hadjis decided this amendment means Section 13 'can no longer be considered exclusively remedial, preventative and conciliatory in nature'."
As I recall, the Supreme Court in 1990 upheld a jail term for Jim Keegstra, so the section was clearly far from merely "remedial" even back then. At that time, the Supreme Court was playing with Section 1 reasonable-limits exemptions from Charter rights the way a three-year-old boy plays with a new fire truck on Christmas morning: they couldn't keep their hands off it. The Court was led at the time by Brian Dickson (who wrote the judgment), an extremely shallow mind. Current chief justice Beverley McLachlin wrote the dissent.
The term "remedial" in this context has to be an anti-concept, because the purpose of government is to protect individual rights. That sometimes includes meting out punishment to transgressors. Jail terms and fines are clearly forms of punishment, and the entire notion of a court or tribunal judgment that forces you to do something that isn't considered a punishment is frankly Orwellian.
