A good friend of mine reached out to me to get some medical supplies and doctors into Haiti. The plan was to get the supplies, docs, and SF medics into the Dominican Republic and convoy into Haiti. Since convoys have been attacked from the DR, you need to have security personnel who can sub as medics and medics who can sub as security personnel.
So you send experienced operators - Soldiers and Marines.
Continuing updates here. If you'd like to help out, there's more at the link.

While these aid NGOs do perform some good work...they frequently lack ethics........they hire private contractors for security......
They refuse to pay in advance...complain bitterly about providing a deposit----then try to make final payment with a receipt for a "donation". This by salaried aid workers.
When they need ya....they are glad to see you come and when the danger passes.....they mutter things like "bloodsucking mercenaries...."
No respect....
"I'll leave a missionary burning in the window."
You can't even send decent quality ammunition to protect against looters like during Katrina - Because store shelves across North America are empty of good defensive rounds. That which you can find is outrageously priced - Thanks again Obamba!!
Well. Just go, Kate.
I'm a man that's not afraid. I also have a small penis.
And ignore the hundreds of other morons.
(I'm on your side, Kate, you know me)
There are some people that have sent encouragement also.
Paul
I'm surprised that any people or supplies can make it through the bottleneck. If the thousands of newscasters, cameramen and writers would get the hell out of the way more could probably be done. How much fresh water, food, electricity, gas and shelter are the press corp using up that could otherwise be used by the needy. These parasites just want to get their face associated with a big story.
You need that much "security" for an -aid- convoy? Otherwise known as, you have to kill looters and gang bangers to get food and water through to the women and kids that they are starving.
That's not a relief effort, that's a war.
We Canadians are not authorized to participate in such things. Just ask Mr. Trudeau, Mr. Mulroney, and Mr. Chretien. Oh, and Kim Campbell and that Joe Who? guy, they were PM for a couple weeks.
Send the Army, they are the only authorized group. What's that? They're all in Ashcanistan?
Oh. Pity.
Ah, the classic 'chicken hawk' argument from a left leaning pseudo-elite; if you don't go then you have no right to relay someone else's comments.
Oh, brilliant Paul, where exactly do you see Kate expressing her opinion? This is not your beloved MSM.
I was going to ignore the troll Doug, but as you mention it, I agree.
I'll accept abuse from an -aid worker- who's there, telling me off for being too lazy or chicken to go help the poor b@st@rds of Country X, whoever that is this week. From some bleeding heart d1ckweed in Toronto, who's just peeved we aren't expressing the proper bleeding heart platitudes, not so much.
No I'm not going. Because frankly, I already gave at the office. Stevie Harper is sending my money and guys I paid for whether I like it or not.
Toronto dwelling socialists like Paul have extorted this aid from me, they should be happy with what they've got. Just one more unintended consequence of bleeding heart liberal policy, Paul. It makes people stingy.
And you know, I'm just not all that excited to be sending money to a place where they block the roads with corpses because we aren't helping them fast enough. Call me heartless and cruel if you must, but I just can't seem to get into a caring mood, you know?
Maybe if there's a disaster in Toronto I'll send a case of water. How's that?
I think most of the commenters don't get it.
The aid convoys are getting attacked inside Dominican Republic, at least how I read 'DR':
"Since convoys have been attacked from the DR, "
Is DR at war with Haiti?
What a mess, I'd stay the hell out of it and watch them do each other in, then pave the place and build steel framed resort. Yes, I am becoming more and more racist the longer I live.
NGO invades Haiti.
O's Imperialism.
...-
"US troops land at Haiti presidential palace
AP"
"No I'm not going. Because frankly, I already gave at the office. Stevie Harper is sending my money and guys I paid for whether I like it or not."
Bingo! My wife asked me the other day if we should donate to Haiti. I told her, "We already have."
Well, unlike some here, I actually READ the link. It sounds like a worthy effort. A relatively small group of military and/or ex-military doctors and medics who can provide their own security and transport, and not be riding the coat tails of some other group.
So I sent a donation.
Just like normal people don't live in the desert, they don't live on a crack in the bedrock while quarreling among themselves. Lost cause. Dead enders.
It took the Brazilian UN contingent some time to learn the obvious in Cité-Soleil but they did: criminal gangs settle down quite quickly when confronted with well-directed lead poisoning from a disciplined antagonist.
The reality is simple.
If we are going to assist the vast majority of Haitians who are the victims of this terrible natural disaster, order must first be re-established.
And that may well mean plugging a few criminals and looters to get the message across.
This is not the time for squeamish bed-wetters; singing "It's A Small World After All" won't save the life of a single Haitian.
Gave at the office thank you very much.Oh and Paul, this is not the proper forum to over exaggerate the size of your anatomy.
Bomb thrower Paul , a typical socialist Liberal.
Colin from Mission, ditto here.
Good for the Blackfive people. Expect the NDP/Liberal crowd to call for a Royal Commission any day now.
Aaron @ 9:53 and JJM @ 11:36!! Right on!!
I recall a little reported situation in New York during 911. Amazingly the first international assistance to reach New York came from the PLO....unannounced....experienced specialists complete with search dogs. Delivered by El Al....a smooth catch up by the IDF.
The Pali specialists first had to get the quarantine waived for the dogs and then somebody had to explain the face masks for the asbestos.
The Pali's commented it was much more efficient working in an environment where bearing weapons and security was not an issue.
This points up the sad reality that looters are a near universal feature of disasters---natural and man made.
I've given to two charities that have been working in Haiti before the earthquake and have two more who also have been on the ground for quite a while to whom I'll send donations.
I have until Feb. 12 in order to have them matched by the Cdn government.
There's enough money to go around to all the troubled areas of the world if each gives what he/she can. Followers of Christ are commanded to give so it's not an option for us anyway.
The Lord loves a cheerful giver so it's much better for those who begrudge the Haitians assistance to keep their wallets closed.
I find the ungenerous are terribly self-righteous. It's as if they're holding up a placard saying: Look at me. I don't give a damn and am proud of it.
So, you don't give a damn, keep it to yourself. Hardly anything to boast about. But then, I'm only an 81 yr old who has been around the block a few times too many.

"Haitian born Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean whose term is up soon."
Good she can go down to Haiti with a few suitcases full of her husbands money and knock herself out.
Maybe set herself up as "the One" and never return to Canada. Thats the kind of "Hope & Change" I like.
