Wandered over to Ezra Levant's site tonight as I've been too focused on climategate for the past 2 months. Ezra's being sued again, this time by Khurrum Awan of the CIC. Full details at:
http://ezralevant.com/2010/01/mark-steyns-wouldbe-censor-sue.html
I've mailed off a check for $100 to Ezra and I suggest that those who can afford to support him send him a donation also. Lets make sure that these islamist scum are shown what happens when they appear in a venue where the truth is an absolute defence, unlike the HRC's which are so much to their liking.
A truly fine display of lib compassion at cbc site re the Gail Shea pie in the face incident.Unbelievable show of stupidity..and aren't the libs the ones that are always saying they are the party of 'the wimminfolk?'
One for you Vitruvius.
A recent discovery for me, Melody Gardot: Baby I'm a Fool. Dig the retro 60s string arrangements too.
Check out other Gardot offerings on YouTube.
All self-penned stuff much of which sounds like instant standards to me. Hints of Peggy Lee, Norah Jones with more power and edge, etc.
Vitruvius, that's one of the few of your selections that I'd already given a listen to.. B.B. King's standard "duet" in a small club with Gary Moore usually follows...
me no dhimmi, she sounds like she's got a lot of influences all right. bravo!
mr/ms/whatever low key:
that's all well and good that Ezra Levant has moral and financial support, but why does the ultra-right wing cabal morally and financial support steve-o harpoon who looks the other way instead of putting laws in place to halt frivolous nuisance lawsuits?
oh, right, parliament has been prorogued yet again by a prime minister obsessed with staying in power.
Wake up dummy..
All Canadian prime ministers are obsessed with staying in power.
What with olympics and Haiti, there's lots to do outside of the house.
Its a total non-issue. Get back to your young liberals club house and think up a real issue.
Blake's famous lines about the tiger (the cat not the golfer) was inspired by his viewing one at the London Zoo. It's doubtful we would have this startling description otherwise, as I don't think he ever left the continent, and had he seen it in the wild it's likely he'd never have lived to report it.
As this is the 25th of January, perhaps it's appropriate to hear one of the songs written by the Immortal Bard: Robert Burns

Canadian Govt Minister assaulted by American
Warning, Palin link
Via HotAir
"We’ve now seen three landslide Republican victories in three states that President Obama carried in 2008. From the tea parties to the town halls to the Massachusetts Miracle, Americans have tried to make their opposition to Washington’s big government agenda loud and clear. But the President has decided that this current discontent isn’t his fault, it’s ours. He seems to think we just don’t understand what’s going on because he hasn’t had the chance – in his 411 speeches and 158 interviews last year – to adequately explain his policies to us."

The natural end result of socialism: collapse.

"How Hugo Chavez's revolution crumbled
While the world has been preoccupied with the crisis in Haiti, Latin America has quietly passed through a tipping point in the ideological conflict that has polarized the region -- and paralyzed U.S. diplomacy -- for most of the past decade.
The result boils down to this: Hugo Chávez's "socialism for the 21st century" has been defeated and is on its way to collapse."

Venezuelan police used clubs and tear gas to battle students protesting the government's shutdown of a major opposition TV station, as President Hugo Chavez's vice president announced his resignation.
Vice President Ramon Carrizalez, 59, a retired colonel who is also the country's defense minister, said he was resigning for "strictly personal" reasons."

"Obama in Free Fall
NRO ^ | 1/25/10 | Victor Davis Hanson
A year ago, a number of "moderate" Republicans and Democratic stalwarts, in the gush of the inauguration, warned us of new Democratic majorities for years to come. A new race/class/gender dynamic would doom conservatives and their-old-white-guy party and its reactionary fellow-travelers. And, of course, the post-national, post-racial, post-modern president would hope and change his way to just about anything he wanted.
All of this was nonsense, but the narrative did mesmerize quite a lot of DC-NY pundits, who mistakenly fell for the Emanuel/Axelrod thesis that popular outrage at Wall Street banditry, weariness with Iraq, and the lackluster McCain campaign would translate into populist support for a kinder, gentler socialism.
And now? On every issue — more bailouts, more stimuli, more deficits, higher taxes, statist health care, cap and trade, diplomatic apologetics, the shunning of natural gas, oil, and nuclear in favor of "millions of green jobs" subsidized by billions in federal "stimulus" — the Obama position polls 5-15 points below 50 percent.
After Van Jones, Anita Dunn, the Skip Gates mess, the "tea-bagger" slurs, the attacks on Fox News, the Copenhagen dashes, the bowing, the apologizing, the reordering of creditors, the NEA obsequiousness, the lackluster overseas-contingency-operation front, the deer-in-the-headlights pause on Afghanistan, the pseudo-deadlines on Iran, Guantanamo, and health care, the transparency and bipartisanship fraud, and dozens of other things, Obama simply does not have the popularity to carry unpopular legislation forward. Indeed, he is reaching a point where he may poll more negatively than his agenda does. "Let me be perfectly clear" and "make no mistake about it" are now caricatures."

I was waiting to hear what the response would be to the Toronto EMS union employees who basically killed a man because they were on strike. These two POSs waited around the corner for 30 minutes as they stated they were waiting for the police to arrive because they didn't feel safe responding to an 50 year old man, James Hearst, dying in the lobby of his apartment building.
It was what I expected, weasely words about safety concerns, staging, blah, blah, blah. Of course all the proper procedures were already in place and the report by the ministry noted they were not followed, repeatedly, by the EMS staff but Mayor Miller said they will be followed next time. You bet your life on it.
I have met some wonderful EMS staff, just recently one super guy who attended my wife after she fell on the ice, but put them under the control of a CUPE union and things change and not for the better.
Unions, literaly, may be the death of you!
Germany's AGW Merkel: First Head of Country To Go MeltDown as a result of Copenhagen failure.
Merkel has **vanished.
"**An explanation offered by someone who knows her well is: exhaustion. The twin burden of dealing with the economic crisis and of fighting and winning a general election has left her drained. She loses concentration more quickly than three or four years ago; she is said to be sleeping badly. Ms Merkel took a two week mountain holiday at the outset of last year’s election campaign and this set a pattern of absent or remote leadership. Her Christmas break was unusually long."
*Merkel's Gaia Shriek:
"*Please: in this spirit, let us all work over the next 24 hours so that tomorrow we will be able to meet again in this hall and show that we have understood: life can not go on as it was."
>>> Go here* to see her eyes: her eyes show her meltdown.

"*Merkel, Copenhagen: 24 hours to succeed
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has made an empassioned appeal to all the countries represented at the Climate Conference in Copenhagen.
She said the commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions had to be improved — to limit a rise in global temperatures:
“We also know that going it alone will not be the effective way to fight this. It is a task for all of us. We need to show the world works together, as we did in the economic and financial crisis. Please: in this spirit, let us all work over the next 24 hours so that tomorrow we will be able to meet again in this hall and show that we have understood: life can not go on as it was. The world needs to change. Let us all work together fruitfully in these 24 hours.”"

"**Iron Lady Angela Merkel vanishes amid trouble home and abroad
Angela Merkel, once billed as a kind of Iron Lady, has become the Invisible Chancellor. Even Germans who are usually quite happy to have a non-intrusive, modest head of government, are astonished. There is trouble brewing at home and abroad but the leader of Europe's biggest economy is distinguished by her absence.
One of her coalition partners, the Bavarian Christian Social Union, is bracing for embarrassing revelations from the trial of an arms dealer: he is expected to spill the beans about how illicit funds flowed into party coffers. Ms Merkel’s other coalition partner, the Free Democrats, are under fire for cutting value-added-tax for the hotel trade – and receiving hefty contributions from grateful hoteliers. Clearly party funding reform should be on the government agenda. Equally clearly, Ms Merkel does not intend to touch the issue: it is too dangerous, and she is adept at stepping out of the firing line.
At home, she suddenly looks weak. And abroad, there is a sense that her attention is flagging. The failure of the Copenhagen summit was partly her failure. Nothing much has been heard about the grand re-launch of the France-German relationship. For the past half year Germany has had no policy on Afghanistan. It was waiting to see what President Obama would come up with. Now it is waiting to see what will be demanded of it. That’s not exactly distinguished leadership.
What is going wrong?"

The Coalition is alive & well with the help of the MSM, Just look at the editorials, CTV national news, Dont watch CBC so dont care.
CTV runs very close to the top of the news Just after the piece on the storm in Western Canada You have Ignatieff & Co. & Layton & Co. in front of the Hall doors, The NDP singing O'Canada(poorly i might add) & Ignatieff giving his best Ron Reagan "Open these Doors".
After the break they do a little piece on the Haiti Conference in Montreal, You would think this Important conference would take priority. But not to the MSM!! No lets continue to encite a riot, Lets plaster the Pic of Rae with his Comrades(kid's Hat CCCP)
My bet is that we are into an Election come March after the Budget, My bet is the Liberal/NDP coalition comes to life if the Liberals take a minority. And my bet is the Liberals/NDP are in secret negotiations "Now" in the event of a Liberal win, With them taking credit for Canada's recovery.
The Polls & MSM stiring the pot makes the atmosphere perfect for a Liberal run at the Keys.
One final Point is that with Ignatieff saying restrictions to PM's right to Perogue. Well this is an out & out piece of crap coming out of the Liberals! Why? The Liberals would not change the rules of Perogue Because If they ever take office again would not be able to use the Perogue status, Of which they are Experts at.
So in other words Bull Shit the Public into thinking you want a change, get them to back you & when you take back the Keys You dont follow through with it.

Is there anything O can do?
But, but,*; O doomsdays AGW's Indulgences.

PDF warning and this document is his speaking notes for a power point demo he was giving so it does not read all that great.
Some prime comments from the first few pages,
"You can prove ANY point if you mix and match data and present it in a way to hide the truth."
"Those pushing the hardest to reduce man-caused CO2 and those controlling the funds for research, actually worry little and care little about the threat of warming or flooding. If they did, they would not personally grossly emit carbon or buy homes at Sea Level in West Palm Beach, Florida."

Jillian Kay Melchior, Ignoring 'Climategate'
Since Climategate broke, the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change admitted that its much-cited 2007 claim that the Himalayan glaciers would have melted by 2035 was unsubstantiated by scientific evidence. Further media reports revealed Michael Mann, one of the key scientists implicated in Climategate, is still receiving millions of dollars in grant money from the 2009 stimulus package. Yet policymakers in Washington and around the world press on, even as the climate-change evidence becomes more and more dubious...

'We don't want a second Oka crisis'
By KATHERINE WILTON, The GazetteJanuary 26, 2010
The Mohawks of Kanesatake called on the federal government yesterday to return to the negotiating table to settle a long-standing land claim, a section of which is slated for development in the heart of Mohawk territory.
With a developer planning to build three luxury houses across the highway from "the Pines" - a tree-covered land adjacent to an aboriginal burial ground - the council wants talks to resume as soon as possible, Kanesatake Grand Chief Sohenrise Paul Nicholas said.
The area was at the centre of the 1990 crisis that erupted over a plan to expand the town of Oka's golf course onto the Pines.
At a news conference yesterday, the band council demanded that developer Normand Ducharme refrain from cutting down trees on his property until the Mohawks' land claims are settled.
"We don't want a second Oka crisis - we want this matter resolved " Nicholas said, referred to the events during the 78-day armed standoff in 1990."

Imagine the words "contrary to the values of the republic" begin said out loud, by a politician in this nation. Then imagine all the emasculated statists running in circles yelling 'neocon!', and you have the perfect picture of contemporary Canadian life.
Why do fully developed nations always seem to need a revolution to actualize and mature?????
France MPs' report backs Muslim face veil ban
A French parliamentary committee has recommended a partial ban on women wearing Islamic face veils.
The committee's near 200-page report has proposed a ban in hospitals, schools, government offices and on public transport.
It also recommends that anyone showing visible signs of "radical religious practice" should be refused residence cards and citizenship.
The interior ministry says just 1,900 women in France wear the full veils.
In its report, the committee said requiring women to cover their faces was against the French republican principles of secularism and equality.
"The wearing of the full veil is a challenge to our republic. This is unacceptable. We must condemn this excess," the report said.
The commission called on parliament to adopt a formal resolution stating that the face veil was "contrary to the values of the republic" and proclaiming that "all of France is saying 'no' to the full veil". ........"

"Cold weather claims more lives in Europe
A deep freeze gripping Europe claimed more lives Tuesday as record low temperatures combined with snow and ice to disrupt travel, close schools and trigger emergency measures. Ten people died of cold in Poland, a police spokeswoman said Tuesday, after 11 on Sunday, raising the death toll since November to 212 -- mainly homeless men -- while around 5,000 homes in the south were without electricity
In Romania, one of the worst-hit nations, 33 people have died in six days, with 11 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the ministry of health said.
With temperatures plunging as low as minus 32 Celsius (minus 27 Fahrenheit) in the centre, authorities triggered an emergency measure that allows them to cut gas supplies to companies in favour of households in case of shortage.
In neighbouring Bulgaria, many schools remained closed for a second day and nearly 20 towns registered record low temperatures for the day.
Rescue services continued to fight their way through snow-drifted roads to villages that have been cut off, but two highways east from the capital to the Black Sea coast were finally reopened.
In Russia, schools were closed in the Orel region south of Moscow, nearly 30,000 people were without power in mountainous Chechnya and the agency Ria Novosti said some 40 automatic money dispensers froze in Moscow.
The Regnum news agency reported 13 people had died of cold in part of the Volga region since January 1.

The Center for Media Research has released a study by Vertical Response that shows just where many of these ‘Main Street’ players are going with their online dollars. The big winners: e-mail and social media. With only 3.8% of small business folks NOT planning on using e-mail marketing and with social media carrying the perception of being free (which they so rudely discover it is far from free) this should make some in the banner and search crowd a little wary.
