PHOENIX (AP) -- Thousands of immigrant rights advocates marched in front of a county jail in Phoenix Saturday in a protest that was aimed at Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's immigration efforts and was marked by a clash between a small group of protesters and police officers.
Organizers say the protest was meant to show officials in Washington that Arpaio shouldn't handle immigration enforcement, and that Congress and the Obama administration need to come up with a way for immigrant workers to come to the country legally.
The three-mile walk that started in a west Phoenix park ended by afternoon at the Durango Jail Complex, a collection of five jails, where officials played music, including a record by singer Linda Ronstadt, to drown out noise made by protesters. Ronstadt took part in Saturday's protest.
Protesters chanted "Joe must go" as they approached the jail complex. One person carried a sign that said "We are human" and bore a picture of a lawman with a wolf's face. A family of five wore T-shirts saying "Who would Jesus deport?"
(...)
"Who would Jesus deport?"
Jesus would deport the Guatemalan immigrants like he does everyday as a Mexican border official………!!!!!
Rob> To further your point....
Possibly their T shirts were referring to the “Biblical Jesus” not Jesus Gonzalez (J Lows second cousin in border security) –
Some historians point out that story of Jesus casting out “Legion” (Mark 5:1 – 5:17) may indeed refer to the dispelling of The Roman tenth legion (Legio X, Fretensis) around 65CE. The emblem of their banners was the wild bore. (Don’t ask just Google it).
Why did the Romans consider Jesus a troublemaker? I doubt very much it was because he was promoting peace amongst all men and welcoming the Romans with open arms.
And then of course there were the tax collectors in the temple, who brought on a certain physical wrath of a pacifist.
Semantics? Probably. The point being is that no one likes the illegal occupation of their lands whether it is through military conquest, or criminal stealth.
Not here, nor there, not now and not ever……………….
And Knight 99 if you actually believe that revisionist pile of codswallop I've got some swampland in Florida.
Jesus 'fight' was with the religious leaders not the secular ones and what's more there were no tax collectors in the temple. There were money changers and sellers of livestock whose presence constituted commercializing the religion and these people were chased out of the temple by a very angry Jew named Jesus. Oh BTW he actually befriended tax collectors one of which wrote the first Gospel.
Oh oh here they come........gotta run....

Minister Of National Defence Announces Further Canadian Forces Assets Being Deployed By Government Of Canada In Response To Haiti Disaster
NR-10.003 - January 17, 2010
OTTAWA – The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today announced further Canadian Forces (CF) support to Haiti, in response to the catastrophic earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince, on January 12, 2010.
“The Government of Canada feels it has a moral imperative to do everything in its power to help with international relief and stabilization efforts in Haiti,” said Minister MacKay. “To further support Op HESTIA, I am ordering a light infantry battalion and health services support be deployed to bring further aid and assistance to the people of Haiti.”"

"Poland’s Economy Is No Joke
Watching the world’s leaders stumble their way through the economic crisis, it often feels as if political success and economic understanding are mutually exclusive. Even the Chinese, who over the past generation have engineered a dramatic turnaround from their Maoist economic nightmare, show a remarkable willingness to pursue a monetary policy (a currency peg to the U.S. dollar) that yields no benefit to their citizens. Amid this morass of economic quackery, it is refreshing to see a clear ray of sanity emanating from one country: Poland.
Last summer, I was invited to speak at the Economic Forum in Krynica, a resort town in Southern Poland. I was amazed at the level of economic activity and civic spirit that was on display throughout the country. I also was fairly surprised that my economic views, which are routinely ridiculed at home, have much wider support among the Polish economic officials who presented at the conference.
This common sense understanding was showcased in an opinion piece published this week in the Financial Times by Polish Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski. Contrary to the public flogging of the free market currently underway in Washington, under the auspices of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, Rostowski explains how governments caused the Crash of 2008 by removing the necessary element of fear from the markets. He states that this was symptomatic of the “deep Keynesian project,” in which governments over the last half century have looked to smooth the economic cycle through periodic floods of monetary expansion and government spending. I couldn't have said it better myself.
A product of the Solidarity movement that opposed the Polish Communist Party in the 1980’s, Mr. Rostowski, like many of his colleagues in the current Polish Administration, is intimately familiar with the hazards of central economic planning. He has seen this movie before, and he knows how it ends.
Instead, Poland has enacted economic policies that are informed by a belief in Austrian School (read: free market) economics. After the downfall of the Communists in 1989, Rostowski was part of a group that called for “shock therapy”: the rapid privatization of state-owned enterprises and the dismantling of price and currency controls."

I don't think it will do much. What I would like to hear is that when Ignatieff drops former PM Lester Pearson's name into a conversation he doesn't call him Mike Pearson. It is always accompanied by a smug smirk,as if we are to ooh and ahh at his familiarity with the former PM. "Up To A Foot of Snow in Store for Parts of Massachusetts by Monday.
A storm spreading locally heavy rain into the Northeast will meet colder air and allow for a treacherous wintry mix and snow to fall over portions of the region. Most of the accumulating snow will fall overnight into Monday morning.
The heaviest snow will thump over a small swathe from the Berkshire Mountains in northwestern Connecticut to southern New Hampshire and southeastern Maine. Six to twelve inches will fall in this corridor. Portland and Portsmouth are among the cities and towns that will be digging out from this much snow."

"So far, Barack Obama hasn't delivered the goods
From the war to the economy, he can't yet claim success on any major issue
One year into Barack Obama's term of office, two remarkable things stand out: how little he has achieved on the core issues on his agenda and how potent the right wing has grown during his watch. It's too early to make a prediction, but this has the feel of a one-term presidency about it.
On the four great questions that have shaped his year in the White House – the economy, health care, war and the environment – Obama cannot claim any clear victories.
Despite the rebound of the stock market and the return to huge bonuses on Wall Street, most Americans remain mired in debt and millions of them are living in depression-like conditions. The economy has come back far enough to reassure the wealthy and the corporate elites that things ought to return to pre-crash ways and that there is no need for radical measures of the kind they were prepared to accept during the great bailouts a year ago.
Food stamps are needed by one adult in eight and one child in four to keep enough food on the table. The real incomes (adjusted for inflation) of wage- and salary-earning Americans are lower now than they were a decade ago. Members of this crucial constituency are asking themselves what Obama has done for them. Ill-at-ease about the future, many of them are open to alternative political narratives, including those of the populist right.
In Midwest industrial states, the rising economic woes of white working class males – at 11 per cent, the male unemployment rate is higher than the national average – are pushing some who voted Democrat in 2008 into the Republican column."

Yeah wallyj it reminds me of the Lion King. 'They call me Mister Pig'!
maz2 @ 11:01 "Mr. Rostowski, like many of his colleagues in the current Polish Administration, is intimately familiar with the hazards of central economic planning." It seems bizarre that many of the former Soviet Union states are moving away from central planning, while we in the west are moving toward that system. People never learn , do they?
wallyj @ 12:32, does that mean we have to call him Mr. Iffy now?
I couldn't believe it!
CTV's Bob Fife praised the CPC government (without actually naming them, unfortunately) for their purchasing of C-17 cargo planes which have "made a tremendous difference" in the military's successful emergency quake relief operations. These planes can accommodate helicopters, as well as large amounts of relief resources.
If not for Prime Minister Stephen Harper's building up of the military, which had been decimated on the Liberal$' watch, Canada would not have been able to launch such a massive and successful emergency response to the devastation in Haiti.
C-17 cargo planes is good kind of plan
if they made them bigger size it can use to do more job as well
is good if they enter in export market to
sell food with low cost to middle east and far east
since we are going to finish war soon that planes can use for commodity export food and other items too
ask Fed express to ship using their cost with lower fuel any where
taht would be good too
"sell food with low cost to middle east and far east"
Yea right!
When we get low cost oil and gas like they pay at the Saudi pumps, we'll send seeds.
The C-17 heavy transport airplanes were bought by the tax payers of Canada so that the Government of Canada could send help to those areas of the world in need, and to have Canadian Forces troops sent to areas that need that sort of help. They were not bought so the taxpayers of Canada could subsidize the delivery of low cost food to those too stupid to grow it, like those in the middle east outside of Israel for example. Your comment is the most stupid I've read so far today, although I await your rebuttal. Those idiots in the middle east can arrange with Israel to purchase food they desire, or buy it on the free market from hundreds of other locations without the need of subsidy from Canadians.
There is a long list of countries that have donated to the cause of helping in Haiti, among the nations helping there I have seen mention of a field hospital from Jordan, 1 airplane full of medical supplies from Iran, and some help from the Red Crescent. How many nations of the world are islamic? +50? most are more wealthy than Haiti, where are they and their so called religion of peace? Do they remember the world wide help sent to the islamic nation of Indonesia? What short memories those stupid people have! What imbeciles those islamists are.
the reason I said low cost I do not mean low cost I just should say competative price since Canada export is not good sinc their price is high compare with other who export food to far east and middle east
it is hard to accept this fact that farmer are lazy to change sysyrm but this is fact
farmer in canada should do something to compete and get price or lower price to gain market there

"Theodore Dalrymple
Haiti’s Apocalypse
This week’s earthquake adds a nightmarish chapter to a tragic history.
15 January 2010
The news from Haiti is always terrible; when there is no Haitian news, it does not so much suggest that the news is good as that the long, slow catastrophe that is Haitian history is merely continuing as usual. But this week’s apocalyptic earthquake makes Haiti’s recent past seem almost like a golden age.
No one who has been to Haiti ever loses his interest in the country. It is one of those places that, because of its history, because of its culture, because of its torments, captures the imagination and never lets it go. You respond to it not with tough, but appalled love. The American writer, Herbert Gold, summarized the country in the title of his wonderful memoir of his experiences there: The Best Nightmare on Earth.
By now it is a commonplace, a piece of received wisdom in every country, that the devastating consequences of the Haitian earthquake are not those of a natural disaster alone, but of a natural event interacting with extreme poverty. The causes of the poverty itself are a matter of deep ideological contention. What is beyond dispute is that so many buildings collapsed because they were so flimsily constructed in the first place.
That Haiti was a slow-moving disaster even before the earthquake was visible—obvious, in fact—from a height of 35,000 feet. When you flew from Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince, the border was as clearly visible as on any map, a straight line drawn on the earth’s surface: on the Dominican side, verdant, on the Haitian side, brown, bare as a desert. It’s difficult to imagine now, but Haiti was once deeply forested; but 98 percent of the tree cover is gone, leaving eroded hillsides with gullies down which the rain torrentially washes whatever soil is left."

Canadians spend less on food as a percentage of our income than any other countries. Why should we send competitively priced food to the middle east? We don't need them as our customers.
It may interest us to send wheat to the islamist middle east countries for $80./205 litre barrel... heh.
I've never heard of successful lazy farmers. I think it is a lie when you say, "farmer are lazy to change sysyrm but this is fact". I think all islamists lie about everything, If an islamist said to me, "it's a nice sunny day outside today", I would be certain that it is either cloudy out, or it is night. Because they all lie. It's what their religion is, a lie.
... and who are you to suggest that "farmer in canada should do something...." for the islamists? why should we do anything for them?
Why don't you return to the middle east and show them how to do it?
There is a long list of countries that have donated to the cause of helping in Haiti, among the nations helping there I have seen mention of a field hospital from Jordan, 1 airplane full of medical supplies from Iran, and some help from the Red Crescent. Wendy.g, how very odd that you would bother to read new's postings. Hmmm.
never hate or lable people in big group
without knowing what is going on and all facts
canadian rather than compet with each otehr
must united and compete with other country to have better life here for all first
like we have too many food plan can join to do export not fight to destroy each otehr
this is run by bully uneducated farmer
farmer must united to do change to export and
need escort of federal to save and move them forward
in past only politican was supported by secuity guard soon all airline and all farmer and all food supply need security to grow thier business and save tehri busiens not work to local steal their businces later
so many people in canada did export when busiens start the local and other country steal theire busienss this systems must changes nobody do any investmen from peopel tax payer unless there is return back to them
some idea is charterable and only do it for god
some do ask rutrn busiens back to us since nobdy like canada seat and help anybody without any help back in future that is relatioship we help you today you help me tommorow
I am bad typer and not check my error
I know 99% of English word spelling right but
when I type fast I do error
the the point:
some times I care and like to think and say some of my ideas this may work or not work
but Mark in calgary anger more to Muslim ( I hate you all Muslim in middle east) in general and not to the point I think
I feel for human no matter christian in Haiti or muslim in middle east or jewish in Canada
not differnt all are human to my eyes
and all are cry for lost of their lifes and love one
while
when country is poor ( africa afgantan and Haiti) it can or may lead to have more thievs in country.
those thieves can real small thievs or can be
indirctly thorugh lack of balance form few rich in Haiti or bad politican there
I do not belive crime and corruption is lable saying middle east are muslim must be all liar or all balck are thieves all is systme made them corrupt of thier politician there
if those country like Africa and afganstan and Hiati has had good politician they
should not live with those poverty
when you too poor you loose your heart link with god and patient to be good for rest of your life if you have not food to eat and see too much dead around you for poverty and hunger
as Islam law when country is too poor they can not execute any Islamic law in any shape while as I said to you law of Islam again bad politician change law of Islam
since first in the least is poverty in each country and balance between poor and rich
rich are good but must pay taxes and there is not sin to be rich while it is good and need to be some people rich and brain to help poor too
while again rich today get advantage theri power
--
problmes today in Canada is hate toward Muslim is too much this can lead to civil war soon if not get stop by law, even court and police doing obstract by hate and it is corrupted to see this hate toward muslim in canada ask 33 and 41 division we need to take crrok out of police in canada who are not honest to public and lie to made up story by hate to put down peopel not correct facily for them to fix peopel not destroy them

each local are free to do copy you tommorow and compete with you in same fashion way but not to take your all business out
I understand people afraid of deal outside canada but do not think canada is safe heaven today for all business people and farmer too
Canadian's grow enough food for Canadians. That's good enough for me. If Canadian farmers have surpluses, they should be free to trade outside of the country at the fair market value they believe their labors to be.
No one give's Canadian's a break on their exports. They sell their products to us at free market prices.
We as Canadians owe the world NOTHING!
As far a "New" and other immigrants to Canada, we owe you nothing as well. Get to work pay your tax's and you are free to feed whomever you please with whatever is left of your paychecks. Otherwise go back where you came from and scratch out a living, most could careless.
You see “new” that is where you miss the whole point!
You talk about “land” like its some free right of yours to have, and Canadians are somehow squatting on everyone else’s land. The point is - there is “land” all over the earth that you could squat yourself on, but choose not too. Take China for example or the plains of Africa.
When our ancestors came to this land there was nothing. Simply rocks, trees, rivers, lakes and tribal Indians. They then went on to build the free society with all its bells and whistles that has made Canada great today. Including, cities, business, governments, education, medicine, and all the other social systems.
You now come into that society (after construction) and expect that we hand over the goodies built on the blood and sweet of our ancestors as if it’s your god given right, and that we owe you something. You tell us that we should leave, and of course leave you with the cities and societies that we built. You don’t want “land” you want what others have built. You bring your own failed cultures and ideologies to strip the successful one away. It’s a typical third world parasitic fantasy that you should freely move into the wealthy house on the street and kick out its residents, but could never build your own.
We owe you nothing and you are not welcome, that will never change.
Goodbye - don't let the door hit you in the behind on your way out.
We Chinese, Native Indian, European will all get along very well without you, thank you very much. Have a nice Islamic war wherever you end up. Cheers :)
Isn't there some sort of SDA award for being the first commenter to shut “new” up EVER??
