Found this over at Secrets of Vancouver.
So you voted democrat?

Well, then, it's not a secret any more, is it ;-)
A superb performance of John Dowland, Allemande: My Lady Hunsdon's Puffe
I think the secret is that there is someone in Vancouver that does not lean so far left they need training wheels to walk!
Pretty good blog btw. I try and stop by a few times a week.
Jim, shhhhhhhh ... there are a few of us out here who have escaped the herd on the Left Coast but we like to remain underneath the radar somewhat.
By the way, a bit further down in that blog is this post. The author asks which of these federal government agencies (and their spending) would be missed:

"It's an uncomfortable pivot from the audacity of hope to buyer's remorse."
"The ferocity they applied to the Republican vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, in contrast with the timidity they brought to his campaign, will in time come to be seen as one of the most shameful episodes in American journalism."
An interesting read... Rex Murphy

.... that a calamity might prove to be the longed-for transformation. But turning practical problems into cosmic cataclysms takes us further away from actual solutions.
This applies, in my view, to the towering seas, storms, droughts and mass extinctions of popular climate catastrophism. Such entertaining visions owe less to scientific climatology than to eschatology, and that familiar sense that modernity and its wasteful comforts are bringing us closer to a biblical day of judgment. As that headline put it for Y2K, predictions of the end of the world are often intertwined with condemnations of human “folly, greed and denial.” Repent and recycle!] Denis Dutton, NYT

Straight out of David Suzuki's hand book.
If your political views are on the right and you live in Vancouver under the radar, what sort of disguise do you wear?
Secret agent.
Great column here by Jonah Goldberg at NRO.

How about a Che T-Shirt and a Kumbaya headband?!
Re Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside (DTES), it is indeed a disgrace. There's one section along Hastings thar looks like something out of a Zombie movie. The Leftards frequently blame the problems of this area on "failed capitalist policies" and "uncaring elites". To me, that's like saying that the problems of Africa are the fault of the same. Nonsense!
The fact is that a well greased Poverty Industry has been created down there, with a reported $1 Million per day going to wages, etc. of all the "poverty agencies". There has actually become a disincentive for things to ever get any better.
A textbook example of your government at work. :-(

I was told they were transit security on overtime.

Krauthammers latest:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2010/01/02/war_what_war_99742.html
Obama is going to have chronic trouble with this issue.
The primacy of language as a creator of social meaning is nicely addressed by Claudia Rosett in the piece RSP linked to:
"There’s quite a debate going on right now about which comes first, the sloppy thinking or the willful misleading...Orwell warned that there is a vicious spiral to these things: The English language 'becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish,' and then 'the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts.'
(...)
"If you’re an average Joe planning to take a plane, it’s a good bet you’re a tad worried that a Muslim terrorist might try to kill you en route. If you’re a high-ranking security official in the Obama administration, entrusted with spending billions to ensure the safety of America, you are constrained to fret that despite U.S. efforts to bring 'an end' to 'Overseas Contingency Operations', there is still a risk that an 'isolated extremist' might 'allegedly' attempt to bring about a 'man-caused disaster.'"
(...)
"When polysyllabic fuzz is the lingo - and mindset - of the 'system,' it's hard to see how the result can be anything but repeated 'systemic failure.'"
From Gord's (2:21) link to Charles Krauthammer:
"Obama reassured the nation that this 'suspect' had been charged. Reassurance? The president should be saying: We have captured an enemy combatant -- an illegal combatant under the laws of war: no uniform, direct attack on civilians -- and now to prevent future attacks, he is being interrogated regarding information he may have about al-Qaeda in Yemen.
"Instead, Abdulmutallab is dispatched to some Detroit-area jail and immediately lawyered up. At which point -- surprise! -- he stops talking.
"This absurdity renders hollow Obama's declaration that 'we will not rest until we find all who were involved.' Once we've given Abdulmutallab the right to remain silent, we have gratuitously forfeited our right to find out from him precisely who else was involved, namely those who trained, instructed, armed and sent him.
"This is all quite mad even in Obama's terms. He sends 30,000 troops to fight terror overseas, yet if any terrorists come to attack us here, they are magically transformed from enemy into defendant.
"The logic is perverse. If we find Abdulmutallab in an al-Qaeda training camp in Yemen, where he is merely preparing for a terror attack, we snuff him out with a Predator -- no judge, no jury, no qualms. But if we catch him in the United States in the very act of mass murder, he instantly acquires protection not just from execution by drone but even from interrogation."
Krauthammer's exactly right: come to the US, jihadists, and you will find gentle purchase under the downy wing of the grinning one....
EBD - beautiful writing - "downy wing" etc. Perfect.
Merci for dat dere, Vit, as I am in Moreale 30 etages up et je parle le francais now.
Lately what I've noticed is that many French-speakers now "feel free" and comfortable to speak English if they want to. Back in the old days Quebecers speaking English was akin to treachery.
Wanna guess why? The internet.
Thanks Al Gore.
Yup Erik. When you start redefining words (the apologists will claim that English is a "living language" and therefore open to interpretation and revision} all bets are off. Gnome sane, yo mo fo?
The worst part of this phenomenon is the efforts by marketers to "create" brand names and subtle references to their products.
It's sneaky, sleazy and usually championed by a dork in a suit who owns an MBA.
Re: my link above
if osama bin laden crawled out of a shipping container in new York would they marandize him? How about hitler? If the answer is to one or both the united states (and Canada?) has to rethink the rules on how it deals with it's enemies.
EBD, I like Krauthammer. He went to McGill. He also has not won a Nobel prize.
No wonder he's so cool. McGill!! He does not look like a long distance runner and if you go to school in Quebec and speak English, you either learn to run or fight. Like I said, he does not look like a runner.
Great film on D.V.D. with Michael Caine called is "Anybody There? He plays a retired magician who is in an old folks home run by the parents of a 10 year old boy. Not your usual subject for a film but magical. The actor playing the boy is also first-rate. Only problem no English subtitles (only Spanish!) so you might miss some of the dialogue with the English working class accent.
Sorry bout that Robert! There is radar jamming equipment to be had out there.
Of course you might look a tad suspicious toting around a three tonne RAMSES unit off one of the frigates..........
Hey, guys, I beat you to it! Tim and Gord, I posted the links to the Rex Murphy and Charles Krauthammer articles at Reader Tips yesterday!
Both of them hit the nail on the head -- and then some.
I truly prey that this never comes to pass,
but should another Yemeni pull it off and take down a planeful of women and children,
the American people will be ruthless in their judgement of Obama's decision to give the underwear bomber the "right to remain silent" at a time when he was just starting to chirp about "others just like me".
"The worst part of this phenomenon is the efforts by marketers to "create" brand names and subtle references to their products... It's sneaky, sleazy and usually championed by a dork in a suit who owns an MBA." (Piper Paul, 3:39AM)
You're right, Paul. Language means nothing to these people. My wife used to work at a hospital named "Hackensack Medical Center". Located fifteen miles away, in Newark, New Jersey, was the medical school of Rutgers University. There was no connection between the school and the hospital other than the fact that a few of the students at the school did their residency at the hospital. Well, the consultants hired to "market" the hospital recommended that the hospital rename itself to "Hackensack University Medical Center". The recommended slogan, which was adopted, became "Hackensack University Medical Center... It's a Natural Evolution."
We had other, more direct contact with "dorks in suits" who pushed mutual funds as part of the hospital's retirement program, but that is another, less amusing story.

biff, I think you meant to write "I truly PRAY ..."
The other "prey" has to do with lunch for a lion, as in "the lion's prey was a gazelle."

While everyone else in Vancouver uses a black umbrella, we use beige ones as a secret ID code when walking down the sidewalks.
We also walk through puddles instead of going around them.
But keep it secret . . . as long as the leftoids and lieberals that have over run the place don't recognize us among them, we are safe to continue our plan of slowly taking over.
We're working on a secret head nod and special decoder rings as well.
Interpol: not overlooked, actually. I read about Obama's giving Interpol vast powers on US soil over at Power Line, I believe, a few weeks ago.
But it's another big story disregarded by the MSM. Like Obama, the MSM are fifth columnists and should be charged with treason, IMO.
Aaron , I think you are pointing out that the Boy Scouts coin is so politically correct it has the 90% representative taking up the 20% space on the lower part of the coin. how quaint.
Re: Bloomerbomber Yemen training. Eric says evil US at fault (kicking a hornet's nest), bombing innocent Yemeni jihadists with US warplanes, special forces, and drones.
Well, obviously.
http://www.ottawasun.com/comment/columnists/eric_margolis/2010/01/03/12329321-sun.html
Perhaps the more learned of you could explain what Margolis talking about. Are US forces operating (no,not Saudis with US equipment) in Saudi Arabia on border with Yemen?
Then maybe someone could explain the Eric that, yes, there are most definitely AQ jihadist soldiers in Afghanistan.
Does this guy speak from any authoritative sources?

Actualy we have advanced from the umbrella (grey) to no umbrella this way we can walk in the rain without being noticed at all. The lefties just look right through us without giving a thought to the coming "Rightvolution".
its over, I think the media has turned on Obama.

Thank you Mr. McHale, for your courage, tenacity, and the desire to advance truth in Canada. The bureaucrats and government ghouls are not exempt from the law.
"The OPP and the Crown have acted as though somehow the police and government are exempt from criminal charges," he said. "This is an attack on democracy itself. Because there's a hands-off approach to Native crime, citizens aren't protected by the Criminal Code."
OPP head Fantino could face charge of threatening public officials
Kenyon Wallace and Matthew Coutts, National Post Published: Thursday, December 31, 2009
Julian Fantino, the Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police, must face an accusation that he illegally tried to influence public officials by threatening them, a Criminal Code offence, a court has ruled.
A judge has ordered a justice of the peace to issue a charge against Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino, after the former Toronto police chief sent an allegedly threatening email to Caledonia politicians

"Climategate: Michael Mann's very unhappy New Year
As I said yesterday, one of our jobs this year is to wipe the complacent smiles off the smug faces of the lobbyists, “experts”, “scientists”, politicians and activists pushing AGW.
This is why I am so glad to report that Michael Mann – creator of the incredible Hockey Stick curve and one of the scientists most heavily implicated in the Climategate scandal – is about to get a very nasty shock. When he turns up to work on Monday, he’ll find that all 27 of his colleagues at the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University have received a rather tempting email inviting them to blow the whistle on anyone they know who may have been fraudulently misusing federal grant funds for climate research.
Under US law, regardless of whether or not a prosecution results, the whistleblower stands to make very large sums of money: it is based on a percentage of the total government funds which have been misused, in this case perhaps as much as $50 million. (Hat tip: John O’Sullivan of the wonderful new campaigning site www.climategate.com)
Here’s that email in full:
Hi,
Greetings and best wishes for a prosperous New Year.
National Search
After the recent whistleblower revelations of emails between climate researchers and data from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, there are on-going investigations into potential fraudulent use of grant funds in Climate Research in the US. I am assisting interested parties who may have details of fraud in climate research to make contact with the proper authorities, and to share in the rewards paid when the funds are recovered.
Whistleblower Rewards Program
The federal government has established vigorous programs to identify and prosecute fraudulent grant applications and administration. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) administers the False Claims Act. It allows rewards for those who come forward with details of grant fraud to share in the recovery of federal funds. This reward can be as much as 30% of the total amount reclaimed. The program is almost completely reliant on insiders to report their knowledge of the fraud in their institutions."

Wally, you can see the absolute idiocy of the London, Ontario based individual known as "Ground Zero" here. With more citizens like him, we'd have a failed state in no time flat.
Incidentally, some of his stupid expressions pop up here on SDA from time to time. We should both look out for & identify this troll.
Around the same time I read Charles Krauthammer's excellent piece about Obama's failure to prosecute the war against terrorists, I caught a segment on CKNW's news on the same subject.
Strangely enough though, CKNW only presented the Obama Administration's point of view, which in this case was criticizing the "terrible" Dick Cheney. There was no counterpoint. No balance. No explanation of why Cheney was saying what he was.
And that, my friends, is how the MSM shapes the opinions of the vast majority of citizens, most of whom have no curiosity to look beyond the headlines. :-(
Al Gore gets another Award.

Interesting article on Kurt Haskell, the Michigan lawyer who was on Flight 253.
Haskell seems absolutely sincere. Reading through the article, I sense that a number of officials are playing the PYA game rather than trying to get to the heart of what occurred at the Amsterdam airport.
CKNW responds to my e-mail.
Little did I know that Charles Krauthammer was a "bobblehead"!
