| Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio, now fortified with thiomersal, fluoride, and MSG, and to the first day of the last year of the first decade of the third millennium. Tonight, for your delectation, here are Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians performing Auld Lang Syne § (2:04). Happy New Year, Everyone! |
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Happy New Year, everybody!
And yes, I'm hunkered down at home.
How, uh, 2010.
Same to you, Chutzpahticular and all the gang here at SDA.
Health, happiness, and prosperity in the new year to all the conservatives here at SDA.
Thank you once again, Kate, for this beautiful blog.
Happy New Year.
A happy, healthy and successful 2010 to one and all.
Eberle just scored; Canada trails the US 4-3.
Happy New Year to Kate, Vitruvius, and all the wonderful guests posters and commentors! Many thanks for all for your hard work during this past year and for the great "conversations" in the comments threads! I really love your blog and appreciate getting to hear "the other side" of issues (we certainly don't get it in the MSM!!). I can't imagine a day going by without a quick check of SDA for the latest news!
All the best for 2010!

A happy New Year to all, especially to my buddies patrolling Kandahar on the first day of 2010. May the new year bring the Taliban and their enablers to their just desserts - and spare the lives of our nation's finest men and women as they hand out those just desserts.
Happy New Year to all, to Kate for her outstanding blog and the incredible work she's done on 'climate change', and to the Late Nite Guys: to Vitruvius ..for being Vitruvius, and to EBD for being also, EBD. A great blog, and also, all the best to everyone who posts here.
Happy New Year to the crew here at SDA!
And a special Cheers to all my wingers and fellow hairy bags, scaliwags and pollywogs in Her Majesty's Canadian Navy on their Centennial of service in 2010.
"I said to a man who stood at the gate of the year, 'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown,' and he replied, 'Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than the known way.'" Happy happy happy New Year!
Happy New Year to all. Especially Kate for all the hard work and the great job on Climate. Kudos to Vit and the regular posters that contribute a lot in the comments. Well done.
Happy New Year to Kate for all her efforts, to Vitruvius for his music selections and short and to the point comments, to everybody that posts here and to all military personnel.
What a game!!! Canada just won in a shoot out after one period of a no score overtime, 3 goals to 2. Final score 7-6
Happy New Year to one and all here. I'm working the night shift, so the beverages I have will have to be of the non-alcoholic variety. Tomorrow night, though...
A million thanks to Kate and Vitruvius and EBD and lance and all the commentors who keep SDA going as the blog to go to. Many happy returns!
To add another tick to this year's count stats, Happy New Year. I feel at home here is all I can add. Thanks Kate and crew.
Happy New Year to Kate for her tremendous blog, her regular guest posters, all the blog participants and to our armed forces.
Let us hope for God's continued blessing on this great nation, and that He causes the idiots (we know who they are) to remove their collective heads from their nether regions. ;-),
Happy New Year 2010! Kate and all!
Enjoying our evening with our little grand daughter. At least I know that I will be feeling great tomorrow!
To our troops: We will never forget your sacrifices. Be safe everyone.
In 1960--my Dad came home with a new Seebreeze Hi-Fi with auto turntable. That's the first record we listened to, along with Bobby Vinton. Thanks!! Happy New Year!!
Not normally a "first poster" but as the first post of the new decade (in the eastern time zone anyway), I just want to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2010.
Thanks to Kate & crew for this blog!
enlightening all who enter;
Climate-shite (it's a long story)
Afstan (our bravehearts)
Libranos-NDP-Bloq-Greens (loyal Opposition?)
CWB
Caledonia (not the song)
the One (Obama, Oprah, Osama pick one)
all good stuff the MSM won't talk about.....
Hello Everyone!
It's 9:38pm here on Canada's Cold & Rainy Left Coast. I must confess that this has not been the best of years for me, culminating in a week of the flu as the year comes to a close. The year hasn't been all bad, but was far from mostly great.
Tonight, I'm very happy to be staying home, warm & dry!
One positive constant in my life though has been the "connection" with all of you here on SDA. Enjoyable, intelligent discussions ... with just a few trolls to spice things up from time to time.
With my volunteering stint at the Olympics starting soon, I won't have as much time on here but hopefully enough to keep my sanity on the straight & narrow.
Wishing you all & your families a Really Great 2010!!!
Great Juniors game. Although credit where it's due to the Yanks' Campbell. (Although not to the point of the gushing b.j. given to the U.S. side by the TSN announcers. Funny how we never deserve to win, but have on flukes for the past 6 years./sarc)
I know lots of you SDA fans check in at Joels site (PTBC) on occasion and today he's on fire over the ever so tolerant CBC web site. Over a million bucks a month people! Worth a read...
*Rush Limbaugh heart attack: CBC's leftest "tolerant" set wish him dead; CBC approves comments*

All the best in 2010 everyone.
Ia am new here, so we don't know each other. Hope that changes in the next decade. To any of our troops /Good luck in the New Year, and go and get 40 for the 4. Still an hour and a half away from the top of the hour here in B.C. but to you all, look forward for some positives in '10. Happy New Year.
It should not be a surprise that the CBC would wish the worst for Rush. This is the same crowd that would give critical acclaim to a movie about the assasination of President Bush.

Now, now, vit...you are not ISO compliant.

A tip of the hat to the “missing year” and matters related

My best to all of you for 2010, especially Kate.
Happy New Year to each and every SDA commenter - what an interesting assortment of characters - and to the guest posters who do their level best to fill in when Kate's away, and, of course, to Kate, the nonpareil, whose audacity, strength, intelligence, honesty and wicked sense of humour - ooh! oohh!! - keeps us all coming back.
2010 will be the best year ever. Sincere best wishes to all, and happy New Year!
Wot's all this? I thought 2010 was supposed to be in the future.
Harry & Boots, here's the comment I just left on the Limbaugh hospitalization story on CBC News:
When foreign friends of mine ask about what problems exist in supposedly idyllic Canada, I always point them to one place: CBC News and the commenters within. Nowhere else in our country can one find so much H-A-T-E in one place. And all from Anonymous COWARDS who I suspect are frustrated young males living in the basements of their mothers' homes.
If I had any hope for you sorry lot I'd ask you to look in the proverbial mirror to try to figure out why you're so full of hate and so terribly misguided. But that's pointless, isn't it?
I could wish you a Happy New Year but you know as well as I do that 2010 will be yet another miserable one for you, where bitterness and lack of satisfaction crops up in every aspect of your lives. Truly pathetic lives to be sure.
The best to all in the new year, and all the best to our blog lady, she is the best for sure.
I'm reminded of Peter Singer, professor of ethics, Princeton University. He believes that human beings should have the right to zoosexual relations provided that no physical harm comes to the animal.
Also, his book, A Dawinian Left, is about learning from the lessons of evolutionary biology. Unfortunately, those lessons did not include what he should have learned from the National Socialists(Peter Singer is Jewish, by the way), and so advocates the killing of disabled newborns.
So, no, I'm not surprised that the left would hope for the death of Rush.
Thanks for informing about the concert and A very Happy and properous new year to you too.

Hey, "Atlanticjim"
And a happy new year to you, from another "hairy bag"...
Mad Mike
Robert W. Just checked and the commie corp actually had your post up!! Guess they didn't have much choice...heh.
How does one go about reporting the CBC to the CHRC???
Thank-you for linking us to the beautiful music of Guy Lombardo, Vit. The music and the fabulous New Years celebrations of the 40s 50s, 60s and 70s were in a class on to themselves! We danced until 3 or 4 A.M. New Years Day. It really was a fabulous time to be alive.
I would like to reiterate your impecable comment EBD; and add my own Best Wishes to all the inspired souls who visit this miricle of a web site. Canada has never been 'safe' for the left wing crowd since Kate went roque and started her own website! She has the quote that started it all up in the right hand corner, on the top of the page - the weeks and years that have followed that great moment in Canadian History have been one of astonishing revelation/celebration to those of us who had felt buried by the left wing bullies we had to deal with every time we plied our pens or opened our mouths. SDA gave us all a place to air our opinions and find the truth.
This site has been the very best thing that happened to Canada in the 1st decade of the new Millenium, IMO. SDA is now more powerful than any newspaper in the country and as we have seen; SDA gets results! Climategate has been the outstanding achievement of this past year - everyone here, take a bow.
May the New Year bring all SDAers peace, prosperity and good fortune. God Bless all of you, the soldiers overseas, and Rush Limbaugh.
Cheers!

A Happy New Year to all SDA regulars, and to our gracious hostess. I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2010.
And, a heartfelt f*ck off to bleet, T, and all the other recurring, Leftard trolls. I have no doubt that 2010 will be as joyless and miserable for you as previous years, as the world view you subscribe to will inevitably allow.
Bravo Colin, Bravo!
You know, I realize that the following is a hopeless fantasy of mine, but I would be so intrigued for an independent, unbiased team of psychologists to do a study on a random sampling of a dozen or so of the hateful Leftards that crawl around the CBC News site and periodically pop up here.
I've often wondered if they lead normal lives outside of the time they're on the computer or if they're just miserable folks (mostly all men I'm guessing) who feel they have been victimized by society, capitalism, life, etc. Through some twisted logic, I imagine, they have convinced themselves that anyone who believes in facts, responsible government, fiscal accountability, personal responsibility, etc. must be crushed like a bug underneath the heel of their boots.
Fascinating subjects they would be!
Happy New Year Kate, the SDA ilk and to all the trolls, wankers and fascists who patrol this blog. May your new year be full of love, hope, peace and prosperity in these amazing times.
It is great to learn something here each and every day, some I love to repeat, some I love to ponder, some just bring a tear to my eye and others cause me to grind my teeth and clench my fists and say nasty things at the screen. But always, it causes me to reflect and be thankful for all I have been given and those to whom I have the responsibility to share my life with.
Richard Wolf at USA Today has an interesting article about the 2010 US economy:
http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/default.htm
Of course, half way down, it contains this amusing line:
"The White House says it inherited the problem from the Bush administration"
plus ca change, plus ca la meme chose
Yes indeed, a very Happy and Prosperous New Year to all the folks on SDA and a large economy sized hug and thanks to Kate for putting the show together.
All the best and will look forward to the amazingness of SDA in the coming year.

The Red Star: Star's wish list for the new year
It was looking not too left field for a couple of entries, then I got to this awfulness (emphasis mine):
"
BARACK OBAMA (U.S. president): Stop trying to make nice with your political enemies and start using the presidential bully pulpit to advance your own agenda.
"
Can you imagine the hooting and hollering (and screaming blue bloody murder) if the paper had been the NP and the name had been George W. Bush?
Oh Star, your incredible bias is showing. Cue the asteroid.
All I hope for in 2010 is a job, roof over my head, food, and health and safety for my loved ones.
I want to just add my voice to those who wish all a happy 2010. SDA is my one required reading stop every day on the internet. I love your style, Kate. I am conservative, but don't really like the labels, (hate that some people have decided all conservatives are right-wing extremists) for the most part just consider myself a reasonable person who believes in facts, responsible government, fiscal accountability, personal responsibility, etc (thanks, Robert W.). SDA fits me perfectly and with your eloquent writing, Kate, I can honestly say that I agree with you almost always! Hope for more of the same in 2010!
Best wishes to all for 2010 (even the lefties).
I just heard about an old fart guy named Justin Battle.
Could there possibly BE a better name for a defence analyst?
London calling: AGW welcomes AGW; but, Al/Moh in Bali* loomed(nice MSM word = Hope and Fear).
...-
"Spectacular fireworks warm New Year revellers braving freezing temperatures"
"Revellers across the country braved freezing temperatures"
"in Edinburgh, where temperatures fell to a biting -6C by midnight."
"*Partying on the Indonesian island of Bali was put on hold after the US Embassy warned of a possible terrorist attack on the resort island, although local security officials said they were unaware of a threat."

The cause of climategate revealed!
As I write, I'm watching the 1961 docudrama Voyage To See What's On The Bottom. Among others, it features a pre-Jeanie Barbara Eden, running around the submarine in 3-inch heels, Frankie Avalon, and Peter Lorre in his last film role. Also, you can watch for Floyd the Barber in a bit part.
The film's premise (and I use the term loosely) is that the Van Allen radiation belts have both moved to within 130 miles of the earth's surface AND caught fire. This causes temperatures to rise, not 2 degrees per century, but per day. Seas rise, lakes boil, and Paris is underwater - sound familiar? Admiral Nelson of the Seaview believes the only way to save the day is to shoot a nuclear missile into the middle of the belts from a precise angle at a precise time. (How, exactly, one calculates this is left unsaid, since they're dealing with an unprecedented situation, but, as we've seen, that didn't stop Mann or Jones either.) He debates this at the UN, but when he's turned down, he takes matters into his own hands. I haven't seen the thrilling conclusion yet, but I'm pretty sure he turns out right.
Now, Jones, Mann, et al are just a few years older than I, so they probably saw this film as 6 or 7 year olds. I have no doubt it was a formative experience, and they both think they're modern Admiral Nelsons, braving skepticism and censure to save the world. They foresee an apocalypse and only they can save us. No wonder they lie and cheat to get their way. It doesn't excuse them, of course, but it does explain them.
No, please excuse me, as I go make popcorn for the thrilling finale.
Bonne Année and Happy New Year to everyone (I decided to start with French first like PM Harper!.
Every year my son and husband rent a Japanese animated film to bring in the new year. We can't take Dick Clark on ABC any more. This year we decided to try a new animated film by Tim Burton of Nightmare Before Christmas fame. The film is called 9 (No not District 9 or the movie with the five women and Daniel Day Lewis).
Anyway I don't know if it was because we saw it on Blue-Ray (my first experience) and High Definition, but this was the best animated film I've ever seen. Christopher Plummer does one of the characters. Incredible imagination for the storyline and the visuals. I was blown over.
It's snowing, at last, here in Toronto. Maybe it will cover up the sleaze for a short time ... One can always wish ...
A very Happy New Year to everyone here at SDA, especially to Kate and Vitruvius! This site's better than any medication for maintaining one's sanity.
I'll have to tell my husband that his wish is SDA's command, as he was asking last night, "Whatever happened to Guy Lombardo on New Year's Eve?"!
That was a great hockey game last night, 'til that unfortunate incident of the miss on the shooutout at the very end... :(
For a great Juxtapose, here is one from Tim Blair
