The world still has too many researchers;
Just about everybody - even workaholics - should look forward to the weekend, when most people get a mood boost, a new study suggests.

Too many:
researchers
civil servants
climate change experts
grievance mongering advocates
victim's rights lawyers
feminist rights professors
. . .
this is a very long list
What's even more ridiculous is that EVERY news, radio, & paper is also reporting on this study as if it is ground breaking.
These researchers count as more "jobs saved or created" ...so halleluyah, the stimulus is working!!!!
Oh no! I'm a shift worker who only has one weekend off every month!!does this mean I'm doomed?
How do I apply to get a grant for a study of my research on researchers???
I have a theory that most household heating bills go down in the summer - likely because of Global Warming - but I'm going to need a lot of funding to prove it. I'm also going to need to spend some time in Italy, for comparison purposes. I want to do research on how much it costs to heat a small villa in... ooooh, let's say Venice.
I'll be contributing to two economies.
well said Mamba :)
Wow... I had no idea the reason I like weekends was because I wasn't at work, giving opportunity to unwind, pursue personal interests... Go figure.
These researchers are obviously contenders for the Nobel.
Actually, I find weekends quite stressful and look forward to Mondays, but that may be because I have been retired for ten years :-)
BTW, I don't remember being polled by the authors of the study, but maybe they just inadvertently overlooked me.
my workmates are congenial...in fact they're devoted to me....i get to hear a few jokes get some exercise...earn a few bucks...see a bit of the country.....it's perfect !
weekends to me though are one long unending occasion for sin...the indolence...the vereating...the recourse to wine beer and other so called 'relaxants' inevitably lead to behaviour i know i will come to regret monday morning...
i couldn't be happier if the weekend were by statute regulated to include sober reflection...meditation and prayer...suitable chastisement and mortification of the flesh...fasting of course....

Waiting for sharia law, are you?
"The Journal Of The Blatantly Obvious" - lol, too funny, thank you for making my day Kate!
"Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come
back to your work your judgment will be surer. Go some distance away
because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at
a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen."
-- Leonardo da Vinci
Surely it was the famous social research institution Loverboy that first observed, "Everybody's working for the weekend"?
There should be a category of "Researching the bleeding obvious"
somehow that pronouncement seems almost biblical.
oh yes, it was, it was number 4 of 10
test
So I guess we should conclude from this government funded research that we can expect a sin tax on our enjoyment of weekends.
After all, if they can redefine CO2 as a toxin and tax it...
This could explain why TGIW (Thank G*d It's Wednesday) never caught on, eh.
I think many of our problems could be solved if university enrollment was limited to those age 50 and up.
Many unanswered questions. Are long weekends better than regular weekends? I will wait for someone to tell me if they are.
Why are these researchers concluding things a child could see?
Better question: who is funding this "profound" research?
John Murney @339, I can't remember where I first heard the wonderful comment "He has a keen grasp of the painfully obvious"
I'm retired so I can't decide if I'm cheated because I don't have weekends to look forward to or just tiddly that every day is a weekend.

well...not sharia exactly but a little order and discipline would go a long way toward instilling a moral sense in the licentious lifestyle of today's youth...i'm agog at time...speechless even when i bear witness to the lack of civic virtue and the wholesale hedonism in today's society...
all i can do i fear is to pray for the dies irae and lead an exemplary life...perhaps my example of selfless virtue and abnegation may make a difference in the Sodom we unfortunately find ourselves inhabiting...
Funny..my job is working the weekends with very little in between at minimum wage. It's something to do with the recession, but I don't think i need to worry though. The Conservative government has decided to fast track Haitians into Canada to make my life easier. They will do the jobs I don't want to do, and like the prime-minister said the population is aging we need them.
There are too many people "working" in every industry. Fred's list only scratches the surface. Half the time, I feel I should be on the list, but why should I fight it?
I was almost run over by the olympic torch convoy this morning. They were barreling down Hwy 3, between Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat. The road conditions were pretty bad, with frost forming from the warm air. Taking up the rear was an Escalade with a mural, and license plate TORCH 0. He passed me doing about 140, and proceeded to cut me off, for no reason.
I was disgusted at the display of tax dollars going down th big toilet, then I remembered I was on my way to do a job that was nothing more than a make work project for an environmental company, made possible by a government bureaucracy, to create revenue for a bunch of people with formerly useless degrees. Just one more reason we can't afford to put gas in our motorhomes, and jacked up 4x4s. What a vicious circle.
BTW, I know how to fix the problem. Convince women they don't need to feel ashamed to stay home, and raise families.
This just in: "Research suggests that candy tastes good"
dp: Call the RCMP and file a complaint. Your have the licence plate...
a weak end
how unbecoming!!!
Has this been peer reviewed? And can we trust the quality of the peer review?
More money please...need to verify these findings...duplicate the results.
I mean, really, how many weathermen does it take to get the forecast wrong?
Erik ---"He has a keen grasp of the painfully obvious"
I don't know, but Basil Fawlty did say something similar about his lovely lady Sybil.
I'm planning a major research project to see if "people like vacations". I need 75 volunteers ... and lots of money.
Erik Larsen
ask the women whether long ones are better than regular ones.

Damn. You beat me to it,infinity squared.I will be sending the bucks via UNESCO/Haiti fund. You should get it in,oh,never.
And BTW....how do you square infinity????
Texas Canuck -- Wednesday is "Hump day" don't cha know? Ever wonder why most kids are conceived mid-week? TGIW became "I get some tonight, long ago." Thinkin' bout Wednesday already.
As a workaholic I do look forward to weekends. I can get so much more work done at the office when I don't have people telephoning, dropping in to "chat" about some project or problem (the work part takes 30 seconds; the preable socializing bit 10 minutes).
wallyj - thanks - the mist is starting to clear - I think you're right.
cal2 - the answer would be that both probably aren't long enough
