This is an example of what I call the 'Big Mac swindle'. We see the ads on television, billboards and coupons of the perfect Big Mac, not an onion bit out of place. When we order one, that picture is not even close to the ads. But we don't slide it back and say "I didn't order this!". We take it and shut up about it all the while knowing McDonald's is laughing at us. The media and politicians use the same ruse and all of us, the jounalists, the politicians, our leaders, we readers, we all know it's a lie but we're all ready to be party to it to some degree. Some of us, and I hope there are more each day, thanks to people like Kate, have begun yelling at the radio, the TV and the papers - " You don't speak for me".
Interesting. The "wrong-ness" of this didn't occur to me until I read the article, so I'm really glad this was posted.
As the article says, you get close to the politicos, and as they do well, so do you. (CNN's Candy Crowley was originally given Obama to cover during the primaries, which turned out to be a big career booster for her.)
Also, it's pretty bad to withhold information for a book that you're going to write. You not only not doing your job, but you're saving the juicy stuff so you can line your own pockets. Not good!
It could be much worse ...... as in Canada. Just imagine the American journalistic whores if they had a 19th century-style appointed Senate being used as an incentive/reward for sucking up to their "natural governing party".
Ladies and gentlemen, kids and aliens, this is the money quote:
This isn't to say that the contents of Game Change would have been a game-changer in 2008. But at a time when distrust of politicians and of the news media are both high, this type of reporting isn't helpful.
It "isn't helpful"? Er, showing, definitively, that the MSM doesn't portray the whole story all the time is not "helpful"?
Like Kate keeps saying, it's not murder, it's suicide.
Great post. Here's more evidence for the "Suicide" verdict.

Newsday Employees Reject Contract With Pay Cuts"
"Via: Ed Padgett's Pressman Los Angeles Times:
Following the lead of their national union president, employees at Newsday on Sunday overwhelmingly rejected a contract with pay cuts and other concessions. The vote by members of Local 406 of the Graphic Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters was 473 to 10 against the proposed pact."
Hold out for a raise, dudes!

Journal de Montreal lockout a year and counting"
"Workers at Francophone newspaper the Journal de Montreal will mark a full year of being locked out Sunday.
The 250 members of the reporting and office staff, who are unionized by the Syndicat des travailleurs de l'information du Journal de Montréal, were locked out Jan. 24, 2009 after a contract dispute over salary, benefits and media convergence."
Deathwish?
• Some reporters are too willing to grant anonymity to sources — the lazier ones might even be the first to suggest that arrangement. That's easier than haggling to get them on the record.
My favourite rule, it got me where I am today.

Kind of reminds one how the corrupt malfeasant Chretien/Martin governing Liberals were able to stay below the ADscam corruption radar for a decade with the enabling Ottawa press gallery and their wilfully blind employers, Corporate Canadian MSM.
Journalists are scum.

"... But at a time when distrust of politicians and of the news media are both high, this type of reporting isn't helpful. A fair question: Just what would the authors withhold from the public in order to sell a book at a later date?
Heheheh!!
Really? Just what would be helpfull? And helpfull to who?
Faster please!
Speaking of hacks I just heard Weston on CTV (I catch snippets of Power Play when Glen Beck has commercial breaks; being careful not to over run his commercial time) suggesting that a MINORITY government, in Canada, is dangerously flirting with Totalitarianism because of ...wait for it...the prorogue!! The dreaded Prorogue. Is he making this up? He claims Canada has 'checks and balances' in our constitution...oh wait..isn't that USA Constitution and isn't he using "Glen Beck talk" and attempting to apply those lines to the Canadian Parliament's 2 week Prorogue?
Why, yes he is! Is he, like his 'fearless leader', an American at heart? Has he been reading the BNA Act instead of the Bolshevik document Turdo spewed that we call 'The Charter of Rights'? (Note the nod to Monarchy (Totalitarianism) - "Charter", not "Bill") Search if you wish, you will find no reference to 'we, the people' in the "Charter" and you will find no right to own property either - if not for Eric Nielson, Turdo would have parked lawfull and unlawfull people in citizens houses to eat and drink until they wanted to move out!! The charter reads almost word for word what the Congress of the Soviet created for the Russian People in 1918 or 1919 (I forget the exact date but I will produce it if anyone wants to know). Anyone who has ever read anything about the real Soviet Union (like Solzhenitsyn or Ayn Rand) will know that all property was nationalized by the gument as soon as Lenin rolled into town. The big shot Bolsheviks used the nice houses to hang their hats prior to the routine of losing their heads via a bullet or a noose).
This book sounds like a bad joke, how much was this author paid to wait? One person the media certainly did dig for dirt about was/is Sarah Palin. Didn't find much but the stupidity and bias of the msm 'truthers' made some easy 'buy ins' reject Governor Palin even though they said they supported what she said - I remember people saying the same things about Ronald Regan - Canadians looked at me like I had two heads when I informed them that I liked Ronald Regan and that I liked Premier Bill Vander Zalm (in B.C.) too.
Time to tell Weston to stop thinking he can steal talking points from Glen Beck and try to claim them as his own; B. Weston is pathetic, IMO.
PMSH is the antithesis of a King/Dictator, he is an economist, doing his best for the people who elected him - the citizens of Canada. So put that in your pipe and smoke it 'Mr. Fat hair on the back of your head'.. oh wait ..I am almost certain that tobacco has never crossed his virgin lips, if it has, I am most certain that he did not inhale; another "American(ism) for our lost Brentie W.
The press choses who they annoint. They had no problem digging for every bit of dust and dirt on Sarah Palin, while puffing up Obamalamadingdong every chance they got.

I take it you don't like Weston?
Console yourself with the fact he's been hurting since the Conservatives have been in power. Waiting for an expected Senate seat under the Libs. He will now never sit in the red room even in his dotage. If free politics continue.
Glenn with two 'n's.
Weston is with Sunmedia, which has taken a full free fall to the left.
Once Peter Worthington retires (or dies) the only thing the Sun newspapers will be good for is a**wipe.
I would imagine with Worhtington gone Lorie Goldstein would be pushed out to make way for more radical left-tards in the editorial department.
Revnant Dream , I dislike Weston intensely because he is a person who plays games with real people and real issues. If he was an out and out pinko I would not hold him in such low regard, Weston spouts innuendo with praise (for PMSH) and praises with criticism (MIMI, Jacko and the blocheads) - he revolts me.
I have made a terrible mistake in names - I have referred to the egregious CTV reporter as Brent and insulted one of Kate's commentators, a commentator for whom I have great respect. The CTV guy is Greg Weston. A thousand apologies to you Brent and to Kate. It will not happen again.
@ Mike T,
Just today I was wandering through the letters to the editor at the various Sun papers and their little comments at the end of each letter.
The Edmonton Sun's editor is maintaining that fully one third of the population of the US has no health care.......
the MSM seems to have 'gotten religious' in its dying days:
ca.news.yahoo.com/s/afp/100127/technology/us_it_internet_media_books_telecom_apple
how predictable.
