That's funny! One of the reasons we chose to adopt internationally is that Canadian social workers have stuffed "open adoption" down the throats of anyone hoping to adopt. The idea that it is better to have the adopted child know and have contact with the birth family sounds very progressive but when you think about the main reasons a child becomes available for adoption - seized by the ministry from abusive and neglectful parents - is it really in the best interest of the child to maintain contact? Do YOU want a heroine addict becoming "intrusive"?

What's really funny is how a lesbian couple can sue, SUE!!, because they don't get the private family experience most people see as normal but heterosexual adoptive parents in Canada are forced to act out the fantasies of lefty social workers.

It's my understanding that the progressives are pushing for a child to have "rights" with respect to sperm donors, meaning financial compensation ect. I've also read stories of the mothers that have received the sperm also looking for some type of support. I'm also aware of a past story where a father's child was adopted-out without his knowing, then against his will because the mother hid the pregnancy from him and she didn't want him involved in the child’s life that she too wanted no part of.

I don't understand the legality of the issue; but things being equal, in a progressive society this father should be entitled to his share of the parenting burden.

It's hard to say which party is loonier.

My wife forbids me from giving away my sperm or even use of the applicator. Just sayin'... ;-)

What is wrong with these people? In all likelihood they wanted a child that would mature into a loving,giving adult. From my point of view,they will raise a petty,vindicative,very selfish wastrel if the child emulates it's 'parents'. What a mess.

This is gross man! I'm afraid to ask how she was inseminated. I've heard the term "turkey-baster" used in reference to these matters, but assumed it was a joke. Won't be eating turkey at their place anytime soon. No, they shouldn't be allowed to adopt, nor male couples either. Every child has a right to a mother and a father.
