Canada has just become the first Western government to cut off aid to UNRWA, the UN agency that runs Palestinian “refugee” camps and does so much to abuse and radicalize Palestinians and prevent any resolution of the conflict.

Oh, I am soooo liking what this government is doing in the international arena!! Way to go Harper, et al.
It's about time.
Next step, cut off all funds to the UN. I know, I know, never gonna happen, but a guy can dream right? It'd be best if the U.S. decided on that course, though.
Great News!!
Now just start passing some orders in coucil to remove certain firearms from the "prohibited" and "restricted" lists...
Good Job. The wailers will commence their screech as soon as they get up and get the call from the msm to 'join them' in outrage! Jacko and the Liberanos will be on the move too.
Let the games begin.
I imagine Mo Shlong's nephew will blow a gasket over this.
show us your colors Bob. ;)
Let the wailing and shrieking commence, as if there isn't enough already...
The precious, my precious...UNRWA accountability now.
"Oil for Food" anybody?
Nice to see the swamp drain a little...

PERFECT!!!
I don't know what I'm going to do if the Liberals ever get back in power. I'm getting spoiled.
This is VERY good news.
Go Stevie Go
This is excellent news. I'm only sorry that I didn't buy a copy of the National Post today!
One of PM Harper's best qualities is his ability to stand alone when necessary. This is a very sensible and ethical move.
Now lets hope to see a defunding of the most malignant NGO still funded by the Canadian taxpayer: yes, the CBC.
Harper - like fine wine is getting better and better with age!
Now if we could just defund mcguinty...

A small step in the right direction. I'll start clapping when we cut off all contact with, and funding for, the world's most corrupt and disfunctional regime: the UN.
"... One of PM Harper's best qualities is his ability to stand alone when necessary.."
Very true. And that's the true test of leadership.
A small step in the right direction. I'll start clapping when we cut off all contact with, and funding for, the world's most corrupt and disfunctional regime: the UN.
Excellent! More please, and faster. We need to de-fund and shut down the radical islamic groups, mosques, madrases and start deporting these people.
And while we're at it, let's extend the principle to what our own government does with our taxes. How about a declaration on our income tax forms along these lines: "No longer may my tax dollars be spent on any of the following: (1) NGOs (2) Islamist organizations, (3) Corrupt indian organizations, including their university, (4) The NDP, (5) The Liberals, (5) Global Warmists, etc.".
Hell, why stop at UNWRA?
Next week, defund the IPCC and then as an Olympic Gold Medal performance, just blow off the entire seething mass of corruption that is the UN and refuse to sen any more good money to Turtle Bay.
Yesterday I expressed my delight with this to my MP.
I also mentioned hammering NGO's, so-called charitable organizations in Canada and Agencies/Departments of the government that have rogue elements in them that throw up roadblocks or act out of step with the elected government.
Let the CPC know if you support these measures.
Even if they were for promotion of origami, cutting funding to them should have been 1st priority.
This is what I like. Quietly cutting off access to the money tree for Leftist radicals, UN poobahs and vermin that thrive and multiply under Liberal Party majorities. No big hype announcement, just -snip- and the IV tube gets cut off.
We will now be treated to the usual trolls posting their usual "they all do it" bash of Harper and the CPC.
But you know trolls, they -don't- all do it. Hell would have frozen over before Count Iggula or any other head of the Liberals would have cut off anything at all with a UN sticker on it. Smilin'Jack would increase UN funds dramatically, he'd double down on one-world government. Neither is what Conservatives want, both are morally and ethically wrong as well as flatly stupid except in the narrow pleasing-the-moonbats frame of reference.
Making your constant Harper bashing nothing more than a clumsy lie. Therefore I mock you.
Leave it to Harpo. The sooner this inept clown and his incompetent ministers are out of office the better for the entire country.
Harper shifts from defence to offence. And just when Ignatieff and Layton are holding centre stage in the empty House of Commons. The PPG looks kind of bored, so maybe they'll press these two for their positions on Harper's move.
Now you start appreciating the prorogation, T, don't you? Sucks to be a parasite.
NGO's worldwide are by-and-large leftist UN incestuous bastard organizations.
Good news for Canadian taxpayers to get full control and value for our aid money by cutting off UNRWA.
And as far as reconstruction of Haiti long term goes, the worst possible scenario would be for the UN to be in charge of that effort.

I read this on the NP yesterday and it was quite possibly the best news of the 21st century.
The next thing is getting out of that maggot ridden UN for real.
Why stop there? Cut all government run foreign aid, and let us decide who deserves charity. Canadians have been extremely generous over the years. Why insult us with tax funded donations to criminals?
Exactly Arron. while the parasites were a wailin outside with misspelt signs, Mr Harper and his glorious lieberal wrecking crew were hard at work for the real intelligent hard working Canadian, Me, and the many other hard working people of this country who don't or can't holiday in the South of France, Igula, and don't or can't holiday and snorkel in Belize, Little Lenin. We just work and pay taxes and this is great news, and a great start, keep it up.
What a courageous move this is. In light of the inevitable outrage that will come from Crazy Jack and Mike, along with their pull toy mp's, we have a government willing to stand up for what is right. Keep up the good work and know that there really is support for you in the country (too bad the CBC can't find it)
But but you can't cut the money. This agency helps refugees. Riiight.
Just how many generations of people have to live on a patch of land before they cease to be refugees? Any refugees among the Palestinian population are probably in the 80s by now. The vast majority of Palestinians have never known any home other than the one they have now. They are not refugees.
Willful refugees, JMD.
Those refugees, who were scared into fleeing their homes by the war cartel - Syria, Egypt, Jordan, SA, Iraq. The same refugees and their descendants, who are refused citizenship and right to work by the same countries.
Not refugees in my books, but hostages to political and religious machinations of warmongers. Not Israel's or our responsibility at all.
T: I recognize that many of the leftish persuasion get a thrill from supporting and/or funding terrorism, since it makes them feel manly to know that they played a tiny part in promoting violence they rarely themselves have the balls to employ, so I can see why you've gotten your panties in a twist over this.
But you're problem isn't that PMSH is an "inept clown" with "incompetent ministers". Quite the opposite really. You're dismayed by the fact that they are too competent and errr....ept.
Sheesh, you can't even troll well. What a sad life you must lead.
When I was in the middle-east with the military, it became obvious that the 'refugee's were in fact from all over the middle east.
For all intents, a jordanian etc. could move into the camps and claim to be a refugee.
It was a form of welfare, as the funding never stopped,
We (soldiers) claimed that the camps became landing strips for assholes, as they ended up with the same type of behavior as the inner-city in Canada/US.
Of course, the UN decided that these criminals automaticlly became 'brave freedom fighters' and as such needed funding.
Thats what you get when you send UN workers, who's education is political science or sociology.
I see that t-for-troll barked on command. Good doggie.
Stone by stone, we continue the quiet undermining of the enormous tax/regulation prison built up by the Liberal Party over the last 40 years, since I was a kid basically. I look forward to the bleatings and whingings of the Left with every stone, too.
It makes the job so much more rewarding, you know?
There are two aspects to this story - the tactical aspect and the strategic aspect. The tactical aspect is the more obvious of the two: an organization with ties to Islamic terrorism has had its Canadian funding rescinded and this is a good thing.
The strategic aspect is part of a larger overall incremental move to more conservative values within Canada by the Harper government. Although conservative critics of Harper have previously criticized both the rate and the intensity of the changes, the changes for the most part have been in a more conservative direction. Every month that the CPC remains in power allows Canadians to become more accustomed to the idea that conservative Western Canadian values are influencing government policies more than ever in Canada's history while at the same time liberal Quebec values are having the least influence upon government policies since at least the time before Trudeau and, perhaps, the least influence ever. This demonstrates itself in many areas, not the least of which is the lower overall business tax rate that should by 2012, I predict, be able to entice some businesses to relocate from the US to Canada in order to escape the projected (2012) higher business tax burden in the US. What a change that would be - companies moving north for tax purposes!
Strategically, one of the other areas that Harper is moving Canada towards a slightly more conservative direction is in the area of Canada's relation to the UN. Since Pearson's time, Canada has been a large promoter of the UN. I know that Canada has not always agreed with UN decisions, but it seems to me that Canada has, in the past, been mostly silent when it has disagreed with UN decisions. Yet it has funded those same decisions simply because it was a member nation. I follow politics a little more than the average person, but not enough to be certain on my last point of Canada not funding a UN decision with which it disagreed, but that is the way the record appears to me.
By funding projects that it does not support, Canada has, in effect, given tacit approval to the UN as a taxing body. By changing the way that Canada deals with the UN to that of dealing with each project on its merits and funding/de-funding based upon Canada's values, Harper is moving the relationship to that of a business relationship - monies are paid based upon perceived value. Whether or not the perceived value in justified or not is a separate discussion; the point is that Canada's relationship with the UN is changing and that is a good thing.
If this were the US, then this would not be news. The Americans have long made their decisions independent of UN decisions; John Bolton only amplified that practice. However, for Canada this seems to me to be the beginning of a significant change, a change that was also hinted at in Copenhagen.
One sometimes wonders if Harper plays chess. At a time like this, it appears that Harper is beginning to move into his middle game. Time will tell.
[ an agency that ]...does so much to abuse and radicalize Palestinians and prevent any resolution of the conflict
I thought they were talking about the CBC!...
All kidding aside,
Bravo Stephen Harper! (and you should also cut funding to the CBC.)
We see what can be done during prorogation; far more than anyone thought. Seems Harper has not been in hiding as the Libs and socialists would have us believe. Imagine ... if you can, what might come to fruition were we to give the Conservatives, under a real conservative, (not the namby-pamby Joe Who's, and other pretend tories) a majority to begin real change?
Way to go PM Harper now defund the people responsible for wastin' a billion dollars a year of our money I talkin' about the C.B.C. When they are not providing free advertisin' for the Liberals scandal-du-jour Perogie-gate etc. they present us with such gems as Little Mosque on the Prairie. Make em' live or die on their ratings!
Now just start passing some orders in coucil to remove certain firearms from the "prohibited" and "restricted" lists...~ norm at 1:53 AM
That would be undemocratic norm; orders-in-council should only be used for simple routine matters, like switching the Country to metric.
Mr. Harper, sir. Could you please see what you can co about paroguing the entire UN and let each part of the UN start up again ONLY AFTER they had proven their ethical and financial efficacy? Thanks, sir.
ps/ I will be doubling my contribution to the CPC this year based solely on your cutbacks to A-Holes program.
China still receives 150 million a year from Canada due to it's being a developing nation status. I think Mr. Harper aught to cut off China and redirect that cash to Haiti.
Has Sid Ryan heard? Boy-o-boy, the anti-semitic labour unions will be extremely ticked about this.
Go PHSH, wean a few more of these organizations off the public teat.
Aaron @ 10:11, that is exactly what they are. Tools in the greater game played by Arab nationalist dictators and kingdoms.
BRENT WESTON
Your remarks regarding the UN and Canadian funding in general are bang on. "Dealing with each project on its merits" should also be applied across the board here at home.
Kate, the wailing has been going on for at least a week now. This organization has been exhorting its members to lobby the government, the opposition and MPs generally to restore funding to UNRWA.
http://www.cjpme.org/
Here is their "press release" on the subject:
http://www.cjpme.org/DisplayDocument.aspx?DocumentID=629&SaveMode=0
Does anyone here have any more information on "Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East"? Who are its board and officers? How is it funded?
From what I can tell from their website, they like to have very even sounding phrases in their policy documents, and high sounding principles, but I've never heard of an initiative or press release of theirs that doesn't try to lay the heavy on Israel.
Stupendously good news.
UNWRA is the main reason this "refugee' problem festers decades after the dozens of other real refugee problems were long since resolved, including the roughly equivalent number of Jews exiled from Arab counries, the partition of India, etc.
UNWRA is terrorism welfare, period.
Compare Harper's brilliant move with Obama's quietly removing ALL but ONE Hamas persons from the terrorist list permitting the easy flow of money to these genocidaires. Mind you, it's just a little appreciation for the Gaza-manned phone banks during the Obama election campaign!
Brent Weston @ 10:38am, I'm not sure if you remember Liberal MP Allan Rock who was for a time Canada's ambassador to the UN. He had that organization pegged correctly.
Among his most important accomplishments while serving as Canada's UN ambassador was to push through the doctrine known as "the Responsibility to Protect" and the replacement of the old Human Rights organization with a new one. It would be a good thing to remember him when and if the Lieberals start to whine and wail against the Harper administration about their UN related decisions.
Of course, the Responsibility to Protect has as much teeth as the UN's declaration on Human Rights. In other words, looks pretty on paper, and that's about it. The new Human Rights agency is as decrepid as the old one. The whole organization is beyond recovery, and the free world should simply walk away from it and the USA in particular should boot it out of the continent.
