Phew...I thought Gitmo would be there forever, but The One decreed that it be closed within one year, and so it is...what? It's not...nevermind

Looks like my President doesn't care about the 2010 elections. Also like he really is "doubling down".
Thanks, debugger - Firefox automatically fixes tags, so it's hard to detect when I've screwed up.
Silicon Valley Jim. My thoughts exactly. For a president who just lost two Dem governorships and a senatorial seat to then go after banks and Gitmo is, imo, dumb. They may be 'popular' policy positions but they won't so anything to help secure America's economic or national security.
Barry is proving that being a legend in your own mind is more than just being a narcissist.
It was announced today that some displaced Haitians will be sent to Guantanamo.
It's not good enough for Muslims however.
voodoo and muslims , should be a good mix.
PS. the CBC and the lieberals seemed to have forgotton about the horrid spawn of the first family of Canadian terrorists, Omar Khadr.
Post WWII terrorists, former Nazi soldiers mostly, were swiftly executed.
The Obama-Nation(tm) is a little slow on the uptake of recent "election feedback".
The Yemeni Al Quaeda outfit will no doubt accept all recent inmates of Guantanamo for retraining as "knicker-bombers"...
Hold on to the 'family jewels' folks its gonna be a rough ride.
Cheers

I didn't even bother reading down past the "Geneva Convention" line. Pfffh.
The sooner it is closed the better.
Gitmo was a mistake from the beginning. The "inmates" should have been interrogated and released or disposed of in theater depending on their relative risk. Instead Gitmo was there with no endgame as an (overly humanitarian) anti-Bush shrine for the PC lefty mush-brained Dems.
On the plus side, the pathological narcissist will not be doing his political future any favours by closing the joint.
Love the graphics, Kate!
Erik: Yeah, I musta missed the part where Al Quaeda signed the conventions. And issued uniforms. And stopped attacking civs.

This part I sure have to agree with, especially the 'no endgame' part.
Barack Obama doesn't care about brown people!
The thugs who run al-Quaeda in Yemen were released from Guantanamo.
I guess the US should send the rest of them home so they can make even more plots to kill them.
I can't remember al-Quaeda signing the Geneva Convention.
If anybody has proof they did, please direct us to it.
DoJ misses GWB.

I disagree with Merle and John. Under the circumstances gitmo was and still is necessary. The ginch bomber should be there now as should ksm. Giving these guys back to their home country would have been a mistake for two main reasons:
1. The opportunity to do extensive interogations would have been missed as would the time to turn some of these guys into double agents (something that I think was/is being done). Valuable info has been gathered and lives saved.
2. For many of these guys sending them back to their home country would be the equivalent of catch and release fishing. We would be returning them to the battlefield to resume their activities.
The only other option would have been trial by military tribunal and then execution. And how do you think the lefties would have reacted to that?
As I read on another post, Obama should get together with Tiger Woods as a twosome and they can play a round together f-----g things up.
I have heard not a peep about this one year later. Have I been missing the big First Year In Review reports on Obama too? It was a big thrill when he had done 100 days.
The writing is on the wall for Mr. Obama: finish destroying the country before the term is up.
It is interesting to speculate what the unintended consequences of this order might be. How many times a day/week/year does the balance of life depend on a second's judgment? How often will the knowledge that one's life will be put at greater risk determine whether the target is a live prisoner or a dead combatant? Perhaps this is where 'Supporting the Troops' really makes a difference.
JihadiCare ... that's lovely, Kate.
Related: The silvery tongued Islamist, Tariq Ramadan, the grandson of Hassan Al Bana (sp?) the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, a man who refuses to condemn the stoning of women convicted of adultery, who is all sweetness and light with his taqiyya "dialogue" and "outreach" is being allowed into the US, after having been kept out for 5 whole years.
Evidently the Jihadi-President himself made the decision and our Gal Hillary at State has signed off on it, telling us that he had been denied entry 'cos he made statements about US foreign policy. A whopper: he had helped fund terrorist groups including Hamas.
According to Pamela Geller he and a rabid Jew-bating Imam are to be invited to the WH.
While I understand your point Gord, Gitmo is a PR victory for the enemy (including the MSM) every day that it exists. I would add option 3 to your comments - the high risk combatants have no protection under the Geneva Convention and don't require a military tribunal nor publicity when they take their quiet and lonely trip to their eternal bliss. Option 1 could have been accomplished quietly in theater as well. Option 2 would be at the discretion of the military in theater. For example they could be returned home with life-altering wounds or released and advertised as having sold out their fellow Jihadists, either way, useless for further actions. I'm pretty sure that's how Churchill would have handled it.
as OweBowLo delegates ALL his work, one wonders when heads will start rolling, making it appear that changes are in the making
will it be before, or after a successful terrorist attack on the USA
John: none of the options you outlined above would have not resulted in scandal possibly impeachment for GWB. Hell, the left has a fit if they pour water down one of these guy's noses.
As for the recruiting power of gitmo, I would need to see proof that that indeed was the case. Iraq being a recruiting tool I can see, but it was and is far more offset by it's use as a killing field that has bled these radicals white (by their own admission) and more importantly has planted the seeds of democracy in the muslim middle east.
Yeah, Gitmo was tough, but crawling through and sleeping on the rocks, planting IED's, pointing my bum at the west 5 times a day, well, listening to Barny ,cheeseburgers, Oprah,I dont know man... it was better than this. Lets go back to Gitmo , Mahmood!
Gord, I don't see Gitmo so much as a recruiting tool although the lame left does. The Jihadist enemy is inspired by the inherent weakness demonstrated by the enormous cost and political correctness of the Gitmo guards falling over themselves to handle the prisoners with the utmost (undeserved) respect for their Islamic scripture, and most of all, the international scorn from supposed American allies. The Jihadists whack off heads of prisoners on YouTube for maximum shock effect while the West has a shit fit over the most humane treatment of enemy combatants in the history of warfare. And the biggest joke of the West is the silent surrender in the form going to any and all lengths to avoid insulting the so-called moderate Muslims who will most assuredly support Shariah when demographics allow. They answer to their Imams, not Western laws and culture. Not hard to tell who's winning this one.
To all of the people that voted for Obama, try and relate to it like "He's a virus that you voted into your system. Now he's awake and is going to destroy it."
Sorry Norton and Avast won't help with this puppy. This is going to take some doing to get rid of him.
