The timetable to reach a global deal to tackle climate change lay in tatters on Wednesday after the United Nations waived the first deadline of the process laid out at last month’s fractious Copenhagen summit.
Nations agreed then to declare their emissions reduction targets by the end of this month. Developed countries would state their intended cuts by 2020: developing countries would outline how they would curb emissions growth.
But Yvo de Boer, the UN’s senior climate change official, admitted the deadline had in effect been shelved.
“By [the end of] January, countries will have the opportunity to . . . indicate if they want to be associated with the accord,” he said. “[Governments could] indicate by the deadline, or they can also indicate later.”
“You could describe it as a soft deadline,” Mr de Boer said.
"Soft", like footsteps in the snow....
Well, it looks to me as if Copenhagen was a smashing success. The weather has been really cold since then. Also, I'd rather have those folks holding meetings than, say, doing a brake job on my car.
I think the planet has been saved from the Marxist global warmists. Phew .. it was getting hot there for awhile.

Harper already knows what's going on. He has played it smart on this by saying he would match the Americans. Actually he had no choice but to match the Americans. Obama would have demanded it or cut off trade.
The fun part is that the NDP and Liberals have been screeching about Global Warming and Cap and Trade and are looking like fools for doing so. Now that Obama has no chance of passing the Cap and Trade Tax, Harper can sit back and let the left wear this mess. The more they shriek the worse they look and the smarter Harper looks.
I can wait forever to keep the money I've earned instead of sending it to third-world dictators.

I think Harper played this extremely well. By using the US as a model he has saved us a lot of grief. The US is in no position to bring in cap and trade and won't be for a long time. The citizens there are saying enough. Obama was untouchable by the Canadian left and could do no wrong. Guess the US President let them down.

I'm not sure whether my Dad was a straight arrow or just a very practical man.

I find that sticking to the truth is easiest, less trouble in the long run----disembling, lying, only produces short term gain but always loss in the long run....

Sasquatch. The best way to run a con or to lie is to tell a story that is 99% true. The 1% is the con. That way any checking of your story comes out true. You don't forget the truth and there is only 1 lie in the mix and you'll remember that. If they get suspicious about the 1% fact you constantly refer them to the 99%.
Most people don't dig that deep so even if they are suspicious they don't have the patience to dig down that deep.
