I don't know if those are the musicians that actually played on this recording (@ 2.40 ish) or just who happened to be in Hamilton that day... it does look like he called in his friends for a favor, regardless, I remember parts of it real well, other parts not so well... you like it now but you'll learn to love it later!
jajaja.. :) exactly.
In the 60's a lot of great musicians lived and played in Hamilton all at the same time. The Band, Janis Joplins Band, Lou Reeds Band, Alice Coopers Band and a few others. During the 70's you could still go to a tavern on a Saturday afternoon and see a pick up band made up of great players for the price of a couple drafts. Guys off the road from playing with Joe Cocker and a host of other international players. Much like Detroit it was a magnet for talent. Mostly cause that's where the good bar gigs were. And like Detroit the talent is for the most part gone. Like the jobs.
gord, I mention it because I had thought Robbie Robertson was from Hamilton (he's from Toronto really), and Daniel Lanois is from there as well, although he plays on this album, he doesn't play on this single, but he is in the single's video playing the Omnichord? whatever. I wouldn't diss Hamilton's musical talent any more than I would Winnipeg's. :)
Perhaps I should have said, "whoever happened to be at Peter Gabriel's house" as it was recorded there with all his buddies.
Marc. Sorry I didn't think you were dissing Hamilton. Although feel free to do so. I was just waxing nostolgic after a couple beers. I think Robbie is actually from Brantford.I think his family was from the 6 Nations. Dan is old enough to have been around for Hamiltons hayday and was influenced by it. I saw him and his brother at all the gigs that mattered. I work with a guy now who was in Wilson Picketts Band during his peak period.
Winnipeg put out some great musicians as well. A lot of guys woodshedded cause it was too cold to leave the house.
I too, remember the smoky, atmosphere magic of nightclubs and bars where people went to fall under the spell of sheer entertainment. I liked those smoky moody voices ...in the bright lit sterile bars of today, that mood cannot be captured. It's over!
I got some Feynman books as Christmas gifts, and apparently there was some drumming involved. It's fascinating to read what he did during the Challenger disaster analysis.
He seems to have been somewhat self-involved (his love for Arlene is evident and tragic), but he needed to go down to the detail level to ask questions. And he didn't need to artificially inflate his perceived status, in fact, he shy-ed away from it.

What mischief is this ?
The most underrated Canadian performer in my mind.
Slinky.
If you have a chance, listen to Robertson's nasty guitar during the first eight bars of "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" - it'll bite 'ya where it counts.
In the good way.

If u like R.R. u will like the "Last Waltz"
"What mischief is this ?"
Sorry about all that sexy stuff at the end. Just keeping the lefties off balance.
please.. no apologies for them.
There was a rumour that Robbie Robertson and Eric Clapton were going to do an album together. Has anybody else heard about this?
Wish the lyrics lived up to the music; it's not The Weight by any means.
Kate, no apologies necessary so long as you don't mention cherry ice cream..
We minions do need discipline now and then ,.... it's for our own good , of course .

The song is even better with your eyes closed.
Nice post Kate.

Are the lefies not off balance already?
Syncro
Artwork. One of Robbie's best.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbie_Robertson_(album) I did conduct a search, to know who is the dancer that blows her hair away from her mouth...
Here in case anyone is interested is a truly great song written by Robbie Robertson when he was with "The Band".
"The Night they drove old Dixie down"

I like Robbie Robertson because he likes Little Willie John.
I like anybody who likes Little Willie John.
Ah, Bill D. Cat, you've got me nostalgic for the days when more Canadians shopped at the minion than at any other store...

Great song
I warned you. I warned you people, on New Year's Eve. I bloody well warned you - I warned you all.
You were all warned.
Love this song, BTW. Is it just me, or is it very reminiscent of Dire Straits - Planet of New Orleans etc.?
I too, remember the smoky, atmosphere magic of nightclubs and bars where people went to fall under the spell of sheer entertainment. I liked those smoky moody voices ...in the bright lit sterile bars of today, that mood cannot be captured. It's over!
Wasn't that girl Maria McKee of Lone Justice?
I love this, I had forgotten about it's mystical content.
It's wonderful (I originally imagined it without the visual images).
"Catch the cluetrain..."
Mondegreens are great.

This man was a hero.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
LOVE this song and da BEAT!
(I had no idea Robertson was Canadian!)
