California: Not Broke Enough!

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!

Jan 8, 2010 - California looks for federal funds to close $20b budget deficit

Jan 12, 2010 - California adopts system of voter bribery to help drive remaining private employers out of the state.

(And such a cheery little article. Read the comments).

Can't find any words that work.

The hardships of mere citizens do not affect the paychecks of their rulers. Or the little brown bags fulla money that circulate around either. Buy a couple more votes, it'll all work out!

Man, the riots when the welfare checks bounce are going to make for some good TV eh?

What Speedy said.

The best comment so far [sorry, there doesn't seem to be a direct link for comments]:

I live in this nightmare, and I can tell you it's far worse than anything you can read. We're seriously considering taking the tax penalty on our 401k so we can use the money to move. Sales tax almost 9%, every little thing you do is regulated, and they're taking our 2011 taxes out of our paychecks now. I kid you not. CALIFORNIA IS TAKING PERSONAL INCOME TAXES OUT A YEAR IN ADVANCE! But don't worry, they say, if we take too much you'll get it back in a refund later! Never mind that they're taking taxes on money you haven't earned yet, never mind that they're forcing you to give the government an interest free loan at gunpoint... how do you know that Kalifornia will even have the money to give back? Last year they stopped our refunds because they didn't have it.

I won't even go into gun rights, nanny state garbage on food, etc. All the fantasies liberals have about ruling God-like over the "little people who need our help" have come true here, and yes, it is FAR WORSE than you can possibly imagine.

Build a wall around this place, and only let out the people who can write in English, tell you who the Founding Fathers are, indentify the Vice President, and not yell "assault weapon" when shown an AR-15.

Arnie came to power after California recalled an a tax and spend Governor and he may be the first Governor to both come to office and leave it as a matter of recall.

It's amazing how fast and how far Arnie got his nose up the tucas of the globalist elite who profit from all this green legislating treasury bankruptcy.

California, what a joke of a state. This is what Taliban Jack wants to do here. Don't the voters there ever have enough of this nonsense?

Not one single favorable comment over there on the 6 pages I just read. It is however a look into the future (our future?) with leftards & greens running things. And as one poster said "CALIFORNIA IS TAKING PERSONAL INCOME TAXES OUT A YEAR IN ADVANCE!". That's what happens when you run out of other peoples money, take more from other people. Leftopia I tell ya.

Ken they're too enamoured with the designer shoes and red carpet events to concern themselves with the slobs living in reality. For the useless idiots on the left reality is what they see nightly on TMZ.

California is a nice place to visit. Sorta like Cuba.

California seems to be more like that pre1990 Russian socialist utopia every day. Quebec would be like this except for the fact that those bad Albertans, and now Saskatchewanians (take breath), keep funding their larges.

Indiana, under socialism, some are more equal than others.

Loved the comment by the guy who owns a solar power company, and is leaving the State because he can't make a living there due to over regulation and onerous levels of taxation.

California had better legalize marijuana quick so they can tax it. And why stop there, legal cocaine would be a big hit with the "jet set" and they can tax the hell out of it,too.

I wonder if all those song writers, who over the past few decades wrote lovely odes to California, like it was Heaven on Earth, would like to revisit their songs and make an adjustment to their lyrics to reflect the new reality.

Gotta be something in the water...

Perhaps California can import some house building experts from Africa.

Bill, Ah-nulled married a Kennedy! How much more left can you get in American politics? You can't tell me that he hasn't tapped into the lefts thinking every single time he walks into his own home!

Let's just remember this: "Happy wife, happy life"!

Not one single favorable comment over there on the 6 pages ...

Looks like the tide is turning. Ahh tide, an alternate energy source.

In contrast to Alberta. The only place i've lived where the government sent a cheque for being here.

Thanks Ralph! ($400/householder)

glacier man, too bad there's only one Kate!

It's obvious to anyone with a thinking brain that Forrest Gump is easily the smartest man in California. If he still lives there, and not the leftie fool who played him in the movie. Yea yea I know Forrest was not real.

I love riding the California coast: an annual rite of passage.
However, it has occurred to me that just as restaurants with great scenery usually have poor food (over reliance on the scenery), California has taken its majestic bounty for granted: it would always be there. Liberalism: The Great All You Can Eat Buffet (while quantities last).

Claremont Review of Books: Failed State

Hyper Democracy. Unionocracy. Girly-man governor.

they call Ah-nald are republican in Kalifornia. nuff said:-))))

and have to wonder if Blacks beach is still a topless Paradise:-)))

Yes indeed, puddin n pie, thanks Ralph! Our Ralph bucks helped to fund our trip to the Mayan Riviera! I had a few cervezas in Ralph's honour as I basked my pasty white redneck blubber on the beautiful topless Caribbean sands!

That's a cute little wind mill you got there, Arnie. Sorry, but I didn't mean to back over it with my SUV!

California seems to be a petri dish for some kind of lunatic experiment. Perhaps we should simply isolate it and recognize it as such and use it as an example of things that should not be copied.

I bet McStinkly is licking his chops over this

California has a population of about 37 million and has a debt of 20 billion and they are freaking out.

Ontario has a population of about 13 million and a 26 billion dollar debt. Why aren't we freaking out? why do people vote for the libs in this province? it's infuriating.

Rodney, the reason Ontario isn't freaking out is because they have a thing called Federal Transfer Payments and California doesn't.

As an Albertan I find it infuriating too.

I believe Alaska under Sarah Palin also sent cheques to its citizens.

Damn capitalists! Damn trickle-down!

Rodney, not sticking up for Gonetario, never, never, never!! But is $20,000,000,000.00 Californias debt or deficit? If it is a debt it's mice nuts. If it's their deficit, they're fubared.

Rodney and Old Spice:

According to Dave Dunderhead, McSquinty's finance minister, Ontario's deficit for 09-10 is $24.7 billion. California's deficit is just over $20 billion for the current fiscal year, but they have well over $150 billion in total debt. Neither one is a poster child for spending restraint.

I'm waiting for the day California bans eating meat.
Having Hollywood as the pool from which politics emerge. Is analogous to a can recycling operation with pawn shops opening up in the neighborhood. Along with a tattoo parlor with a liqueur emporium.
After a while the place is not the same. It attracts the wrong people. Eventually it becomes a ghetto. California has become an inner city State.

California will rise from this debacle. They will legalize cannabis in 2010 and then use the tax revenue to balance the books. Then other states will follow.

BTW- Arnie was brought in because Gray Davis was pursuing Enron and Dynegy for defrauding California of billions of dollars and wanted the money repaid. Enron and Dynegy bankrolled Arnie's campaign and set in motion the events that led to the recall.
