Most of the time, they can't tell you a damned thing about what they're doing on your behalf. And in this case, they were modest enough that a whole month went by before the information went public. But Canadian Special Operations Forces Command's commander, Mike Day, was recently promoted to Brigadier General.

Thanks for posting this, Damian. It is an impressive, and important milestone for Brigadier General Day, and those under his command. This civilian sends out a heartfelt "Congratulations!"
Out of a morbid sense of curiosity, I did a search for "Brigadier General Michael Day" on the cbc.ca website. I wasn't really surprised when no relevant hits came back.
Excellent news!! Glad to hear that the service is maturing and gaining it's own appropriate command structure.
Canada has a military?
LOL, just kidding folks. Congrats to him being recognized. .
Congratulations Mr. Day.
Thanks for posting this Damian and Kate.
Here is a link to BGen Day's official biography.

I know him personally; he is a very impressive individual in an organization that attracts outstanding people.
Brian in Kemptville - I sit back in extraordinary awe of the amazing humans that make up the Canadian military. That's what worries me about Afstan - such a terrible sacrifice for a faraway land, of precious Canadians.
Having spent more than three decades in uniform, a little bit of me dies every time I hear of another death in action. As a (retired) professional soldier, I understand death is part of the profession of arms and I stand in awe (and with not a little pride) of our men and women in uniform.
I don't think that Canadian Soldiers have ever fought in places other than a "faraway land", and because they have, they have not had to fight here.
Thanks for your service.

Good comment Pat
Eric Larson - to paraphrase William Wallace "All men die, not all men live".

Thanks for your service.

Congratulations to BGen Day. It is guys like him that quietly do their best for us. I know it sounds trite, but more than just a few of us love Canada and appreciate what she has given us.
Thanks to you to Brian in Kemptville.
wow, so you don't get the job till you are qualified. good on the army.
Some people would poke fun at our military, but it should be pointed out that you can't be good at peacekeeping unless you are brilliant at beeing a warrior.
Are these the folks who are also called JTF2 or are they different?
The sad reality is that the upper echelons are always beaurocrats.....of neccessity.
It was always been remarked that the US Army resembled GM or the reverse...both are true.
Most General officers in the US hold MBA's....
It is no accident that Eisenhower was so successful as a POTUS....think of all the different roles he had as SACEUR.....he was the de facto ruler of unoccupied Europe for years.....
JMD, JTF 2 is one unit within CANSOFCOM. The others are 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron, Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit, and Canadian Special Operations Regiment. You can learn a bit more about them here.
