Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!

Professional journalist;

About 300 people assembled in the snow at the University of Winnipeg to show their displeasure with the federal government’s decision to take an extended holiday break.

And they say that Jesus feeding the 5000 with a few loaves and fishes was a miracle. You should see what the media can do with a group of 3 malcontents.

Was that supposed to read "coalition"?

"coaition"

rotflmao!!

This was the "spurt coffee out my nose" moment of the day.

“Harper you are a Nazi”

Dammit, they take an extended break just when the unions of the peoples socialist army are looking for legislation on less working hours and extended lunch breaks!

“We in the meantime had to use our OWN unemployment dollars to make these stupid signs and stand out here all morning”!

yup - they all pass their courses Summa cum laud!

I'm no rabid Conservative (can't forget those scoundrels' flip flop on income trusts and their enthusiasm to send our young adults into the quagmire of Iraq) but this whole prorogation furore is so patently partisan (the original face book campaigner was even an NDP candidate) that it is annoying to read the ludicrous mainstream media coverage as though there is some serious groundswell of concern by Joe and Jane Sixpack. Most of us are happy to be spared the embarrassing spectacle of our politicians acting like kindergarten kids in parliament.
It is also depressing to see that our university students can't spell 'coalition'.

The question becomes what is the poll number that sees the Libs and NDP gain enough seats to govern without the Bloc. If we are there now then we may have an election earlier than expected.

There will be an a coalition and it will be those two parties.

john:

How many Canadian soldiers have been killed in Iraq? Income trust? Get over it.

Y'all:

Funniest moment of the day was when Jack Layton got up and in his Ronald Reagan tones said:

Mr. Harper, bring back this parliament.

I guess Layton missed the news that the Soviet Union collapes. You'd think he'd notice there were fewer people at the Socialist International meetings.

Actually, the question becomes "Why don't we have a class in high school about how government works?"

When I read the article, that was my first impression. I understand the comment about "How can my MP ask a question" but in reality, MPs can still get stuff done. Harper has been sitting in his office for weeks. All they have to do is call him. He and his ministers got Haitian relief out the door within hours of the disaster. What these people REALLY want to know is "How can my MP PUBLICLY ask a question that might embarrass the government", and unfortunately, the answer to that is "not easily".

Besides their obvious English education level I wonder if they intentionally used the “equivalent” sign rather than the “equals”?

After all both surnames begin with the letter H and at least in the English pronunciation end with them with R. Hitler is actually pronounced without the R in German.

I wonder if Hitler’s party the National Socialist German Workers Party being related in policy to the Canadian national socialist party (NDP) has anything to do with the use of the equivalent symbol and not the = equals………

Hate to take to much future credit away from Jack Layton I suppose.

Photo from the Winnipeg Free Press webs site shows a protester with a sign that reads:
No Vacation For Parliment (sic)

He should have played it safe and used one of the pre-made NDP signs.

On a lighter note, today's 6/49 jackpot of $20 million was won by one ticket in Saskatchewan.
Pilsners on Kate perhaps?

And narrow, black printing against a dark red background is a brilliant choice for legibility, too.

"I’m here because it’s flat-out stupid that our prime minister thinks he can get away with shutting down Parliament,” said Christopher Penner. “It’s just ridiculous."

I love inane statements like the one above. It says nothing, means nothing, does nothing except show how mindless and pointless these protesters are.

The fact is that what Harper is doing has zero affect on anyone. I cannot think of anything Parliament can do in the next few weeks that will be frenzied with Olympic fever. This is nothing more than the Left taking an opportunity to spew their utter contempt for Mr. Harper. They offer nothing constructive whatsoever.

I do enjoy their pain.

Penner? That's a Manitoba name that I associate with the communists. I wonder why.

There was nary a peep on CBC, and that is my barometer of how well the protest goes in Winnipeg. That the Sun reporter actually wrote something has me questioning the honesty of that well known rag! Something I would expect from the Free Press (or as I like to call it, Pravda on the Prairies)

Harper = Hitler

Nice to see the 'serious' political analysts out in farce!

Yep, that Harper is sure "Pro-Rogue" government...

Lovely bunch of comedians...

Cheers

I'm willing to bet that fewer than 1 in 100 people could tell you, even approximately, when parliament is in session. I couldn't give you dates, and I'm actually sort of interested in politics.

albertaclipper @ 12:11, you got that right and it would be Roland Penner.

Coalition spelt as "coaition", by a University of Winnipeg student? My, my, these people should be taking a few English classes rather than being steeped in Marxism.

This whole thing is a f'ng joke. Politicians bitching about not being able to work: complete hypocrisy.

All MPs can still "work". They might actually try listening to their constituents. But they'd prefer to trash the ruling CPC without providing any tangible plans for governing, which they excel at regardless of whether Parliament's in session or not.

If the Libs & NDP have their way this is what will happen. Parliament will resume in March. The opposition will request a confidence vote ASAP. Parliament will be dissolved and will likely not reappear again until late May or June. Again complete hypocrisy.

"can't forget those scoundrels' flip flop on income trusts and their enthusiasm to send our young adults into the quagmire of Iraq"

I’ll agree with you.

The royalty trust scandal was a piss-off to be sure, the economic health of Harpers decision was sound, it was the delivery that was unpalatable.

If you were referring to Income Trust Scandal, that is what put Harpers government into power and tarred and feathered the thieving Liberals.

As far as young adults dying in Iraq, for sure, it’s unconscionable considering what they are dying for. On the other hand I could give a rats behind that they are killing Afghanis in droves, it’s simply terribly unfortunate that our own are not at home and kicking them out of our country and protecting our own borders.

The one that will get me on Harper is if he doesn’t come through on repealing the gun registry. That will be an unforgivable broken promise!

Let’s not forget who was in the seat of power when all these things were enacted! The first troops went into Afghanistan in 2001. The useless gun registry was enacted in 1995 with the promised cost of $2 million dollars!! It’s now approaching nearly 2 Billion with a B by some estimates, and amnesty has still been moved ahead into May 2010. That’s 2 Billion dollars absolutely wasted regardless if they can get everyone to register. Even then it won’t work and simply targets normal working class Canadians for extra needless tax’s and subjugating laws.

Jack Layton at the demonstration in Ottawa today:
"Mr. Harper, unlock the doors of the Peoples' house, it’s not your house."

Scott Brown, incoming Mass R Senator on January 10, 2010:
"It’s not the Kennedy seat, it’s not the Democratic Seat, it’s the Peoples' seat."

Gee Jack, if you are going to borrow from someone else's speech, at least borrow from one that's not so fresh.
But then again, how fresh are any of Jack's ideas?

"coaition" (even my spell checker catches this retyping of the word)

well; the valid complaint is that university students can't spell worth squat. and that's the result of the public edjukashun system refusing to EVER flunk ANYONE for anything. spelling isn't even a low priority, it's a non-priority.

perhaps there's a niche market for felt tip pens with built-in spell checker. LOL !!!

I hate it when the photo doesn't show up :(

Liberals in Canada have the 'Young Liberals'.

The membership is especially numerous in cities where there are federal offices.

Many of these young 'members' are related to someone in a comfy government paid job.

Their loyalty hinges more on the promise of secure future employment more than anything else.

Naturally it only takes an email to these young liberals to get them out demonstrating for anything Ignatieffe wants.

Well, since professional journalists are trained to tell the truth (*cough*hack*), I'll accept that the number was close to 300. This is a really big movement, folks. That's .047% of the population of Winnipeg, fer Christ's sake. The Conservative Party is toast.

I did not know that the Canadian Wheat Board was sponsoring this shindig. Did the paper shufflers not get their bonus this year?

John? Knight99? What's this about our young people and Iraq??

I'm on a mission to start a coaition, yea thats what I'll do. What losers, hope their mommys and daddys are happy they are getting their moneys worth an University.

I have only one word to comment on those two "wymyn" in the photo:

OINK

“What's this about our young people and Iraq??”

Nothing much, just some side comments alluding to the fact that we wished our troops weren’t getting killed.

I believe the context of those wishes come from different angles though. Mine being that I could care less about the Afghani’s and do care about our own.

John would need to explain his own sentiments, which I read as a Harper government issue although they were not in power when the first Canadian troops went over there.

"What losers, hope their mommys and daddys are happy they are getting their moneys worth an University."

That's the reason why they covered their faces.

Oh yea, me bad I guess I did typo "Iraq" once. Meant Afghanistan obviously..........

Canadian Native people will tell you stories about the Ghost People in their Myths.
Looks like Ottawa Journalists found them, Kinda sorta.
JMO

Here in Saskatoon, we were treated to a pretty nasty all day, all night blizzard on Saturday, so I don't think the Saskatoon Chapter rally went as planned, unless they were able to move it indoors at the last minute.

If parliament is shut, they are not making any more laws. We already lave lots of laws.

gee...i thot it said "Coition government NOW'...........which on a certain level i agreed with...

Ah, if only Ms. Not-So-Hot-At-Spelling had managed to drop a second letter and stray as far as "COITION GOVERNMENT", because if the New Libs On The Bloc ever managed to get into power we'd surely be effed.

One thing this prorogation has done is flush out the rats and rogues. All the expected usual subjects were on hand, including the likes of Maudie Barlow.
It was a nonpolitical and or a grassroots movement? In a pig's ass.
It was an opportunity for the Lefties and malcontent politicos to clown before the cameras. Even our illustrious Opposition leader Mister Iggy took a turn at the microphone. It appears prorogation is only OK when done by Liberals, then it is democratic.

If the Liberals want to talk about inquiries, we could go back to the Somalia inquiry which was stopped when Chretien prorogued. Never mention Adscam, we never did get that money back, never will, old Jean just shucked it off as "what's a few million"?

Nah, this event wasn't about prorogation.

Has anyone seen PMSH's latest interviews? He looks like he hasn't slept in days. Some vacation.

Watching CTV man on the street interviews, you'd think he was sunning in Cuba. People are so uninformed.

I'm a Conservative but I think what Harper did was a bad idea.
He's obviously reducing his standing in the polls.
Why would he give ammunition to the opposition?

CBC headline "Thousands attend rally" Of course this is slightly misleading The "thousands" were across the entire country at various rallies.

My headline would have been a bit more accurate. "Over 30 million don't give a F---"

Why would he give ammunition to the opposition?

Giving them the rope to hang themselfs?

I tried posting to the cbc yesterday. At that time the estimate was 3,000 people. I pointed out that was less than 0.009% of the pop. For those with social progression math..that ain't much. For some reason they did not print that. To-day I am going to bug them on prorogation

Hopefully, Harper in his decision to prorogue parliament has rung the death knell of his dismal failure as prime minister, Danny Williams was correct, he is a liar and a fraud, as evidenced by his string of broken promises and his position regarding the appointment of senators. His popularity is at an all time low in Quebec with just 25% support. Nation wide 64% of Canadians, in two separate polls, are dissatisfied with his proroguing parliament. One silver lining to the prorogation is that all of the conservative hang 'em high draconian justice bills that they are so fond of died on the order table too.

Back in the day, a crusty old editor would have finally told his hacks, "Boys, this story is goin' nowhere and it ain't sellin' copy. We're droppin' it."

Three Canadian TV networks joined forces to raise money for Haiti.

Kudos to them for that effort.

On the dark side, those same media are surreptitiously driving "prorogation" and the Taliban so called "torture" victimization stories in Canada to this very day.

The troika of corrupt MSM in Canada is agenda driven to discredit the Harper conservatives.
Canadian should stop and rethink their admiration for the "coalition" of the Communist NDP, Communist Bloq Quebec and the hard left Liberals and what the consequences of such a coalition would have meant for Canada.
Face it folks it would have been a defacto communist government in power!!!!

Largely media driven to boot!

Canada needs a FOX equivalent direly.

When I looked for the comment link on the Winnipeg Sun story I could not find it.

Could someone point it out for me? Thanks.

Bob Rae was , the King of the Prorogues.

"As premier, he prorogued this Legislature not once, not twice — but three times. And for much longer than Harper has prorogued the federal Parliament.

Rae’s NDP won power Sept. 6, 1990. On Dec. 19, 1991, Rae prorogued the House. They didn’t come back until April 6, 1992. He then prorogued again, Dec. 10, 1992 — and didn’t come back until April 13, 1993.

By 1994, his government had run out of steam. They were running double-digit deficits and he’d doubled the debt. Some of his experimental policies proved laughable at best and disastrous at worst.

Limping badly, he prorogued for the third time on Dec. 9, 1994. The House did not sit again until the legislature was dissolved April 28, 1995.

Rae didn’t even bring in a budget that year.

For four-and-a-half months, this province had no sitting Legislature.

Was there a grass-roots uprising of self-righteous people decrying Rae for ending democracy?"

T:

you're quoting Danny Williams?

25% in qc is nowhere near the low point for the CPC. Try 11%

please provide the poll that delivered the 64% number. My guess is it was a push poll.

You disparage the crime legislation as being bad but just before that you quote a public opinion poll as proof that the CPC is bad. You should know that the public very much supports the crime legislation that is in the legislative mill.

I will predict that prorogueing will be forgotten immediately when the CPC tables it new agenda and the visage of new but very well-briefed new ministers appear in the scrums when it ends.
