For those who say "I don't like immigrants" - have a look around at the people that would otherwise inherit this country. Most people I know from other countries value what we have here in Canada. (And I'm pretty sure that the CCCP kid's parents weren't born in the former Soviet Union.)

What they might do is pass a resolution that the House will Prorogue without some notice etc. Kind of dumb.

While I am not a big fan of big breaks post proroguement this is hardly a the big deal they have stated. The UK prorogues every year but only for 3 weeks. Nothing wrong with annual proroguements. Committees can and should continue their work. Question is should reports be tabled or not. Since every commission I know of seems to pre release stuff anyway, then I see no reason it cant be tabled pending Parliaments acknowledgment of receipt.

Why is the federal (and most provincial)government's fiscal year end March 31 and the public accounts or financial statements for that year not tabled until October 31, seven months later? Heck, any publicly traded corporation must release within 90 days. Simple answer: when we were founded, most MPs/MLAs were farmers as were 95% of the country. What do farmers do from April to the end of October? Well, they FARM! Therefore the farmer/MP couldn't even look at the public accounts until after harvest, he (yes HE as women were not allowed to vote) had the winter to get all the parliamentary debates and legislation dealt with and finally vote supply bills (spending appropriations) for the next fiscal year before he had to hurry back to the farm for planting. Unless there was a dire emergency (war/famine etc) Parliament would never sit April to October.
This whole business of Parliament always sitting is due to professional politicians. If we didn't pay the buggers so well, they would need real jobs and welcome a break so they could earn some money.
I believe Montana's state legislature is only permitted to sit 55 days a year and the state assemblymen receive $50/day for every day it sits. Last I checked, New Hampshire only pay's its folks $200 for the two year term! Get in, get the business done ASAP, go home. That's the way!

Yes-- and they need to back off quickly as Pollivere and others have made the link between constraints being put on proroguing and bringing back the coalition. They could find themselves in an election with "coalition" as the central issue. Attacking the military as a secondary issue.
