Hey Phil - you missed a paper;
In his paper, Qing-Bin Lu, a professor of physics and astronomy, shows how CFCs – compounds once widely used as refrigerants – and cosmic rays – energy particles originating in outer space – are mostly to blame for climate change, rather than carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. His paper, derived from observations of satellite, ground-based and balloon measurements as well as an innovative use of an established mechanism, was published online in the prestigious journal Physics Reports.
“My findings do not agree with the climate models that conventionally thought that greenhouse gases, mainly CO2, are the major culprits for the global warming seen in the late 20th century,” Lu said. “Instead, the observed data show that CFCs conspiring with cosmic rays most likely caused both the Antarctic ozone hole and global warming. These findings are totally unexpected and striking, as I was focused on studying the mechanism for the formation of the ozone hole, rather than global warming.”
His conclusions are based on observations that from 1950 up to now, the climate in the Arctic and Antarctic atmospheres has been completely controlled by CFCs and cosmic rays, with no CO2 impact.
The rest is at WUWT, (along with lots of discussion/skepticism in the comments).

I'm not a climate scientist, but this strikes me as being false. Everything I've read says that when the sun is in an active period (lots of sunspots), the solar winds protect us from most cosmic rays, and vice versa during inactive solar periods. Therefore, we should be receiving more cosmic rays during the cycles of low solar output. However, our warmer decades seem to coincide with the active cycles, not the inactive cycles.
All the lovely Warmongers and their "Settled Science".
Settled like knee deep cow piles in a pasture.
Smells like that pasture too.
I remember the concern about allowing refrigerents moving into the atmosphere and the effect it had. it was a correctable situation and to this day there are procedures for recovering the refrigerents also a reasonable fee for doing as much. I guess this was not suffcient to satisfy the current crop of neo- Malthusians. I am not sure why the effect of the "social contract" has not been reintroduced to the debate to refute once again the claims of over population. The obvious proof of the impact of a social contract on population growth in Europe should set this aside, as it did with "population Bomb" scare of the sixties and early seventies. Our youngest son is three years younger than he would have been without that blast of fear mongering. Neo- malthusiasm will be used again and again if it is not resolutely debunked this time; Cheers;
I thought they stopped using CFC's R-12 many years ago?
I suddenly felt an urge to puncture a spray can.
From what I recall the cosmic rays do not cause heating, but rather, promote cloud formatio. Therefore, higher solar activity -> less cosmic rays -> less clouds -> more solar heat -> higher temps. This correlation seems well established, with known periods of exceptional low solar activity corresponding to cold periods (e.g. LIA/Maunder Minimum).
The fact there are so many theories floating around about climate shows how little we really know about it.
cloud formation
I should learn to use spell check :)
Lots of Canadian connections. Google the "Montreal Accord"
I still have a 50lb cannister of Twelve hiding in my garage. If it stays this cold maybe I should open it up?
RRR john, that there's gold!
Steyn calls it The Church of Settled Science.
I like it.
Maybe cosmic rays hitting CFCs cause clown formation.
That would explain global warming science completely. ~:D
So .... now it's the Penguins?
I may have a solution.
A gigantic tin foil hat for the entire earth!
I remember that hole in the sky.
I can not remember, did we discover it or did we CREATE it??
discover woodcutter discover
Just another trough hog hopefull .... will he cash in on the AGW bandwagon?
Similar research presented is this film. Interesting stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKoUwttE0BA&feature=player_embedded
"CFCs – compounds once widely used as refrigerants" (-until banned in countries with an overabundance of envirocranks and patent law)
Now a very profitable sideline for smugglers with access to supplies from "unknown sources overseas."
No one knows how big the ozone "hole" at the pole is supposed to be.
No one has proven that it didn't exist prior to it's having been discovered or has reasonably postulated what it's diameter should be as a natural phenomenon.
This is old news. Where ya been?
See CBC from last Spring: http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/03/23/tech-090323-ozone-hole-cosmic-rays.html
We are at an extended solar minimum, so we should have more cosmic rays hitting Earth. The zone hole over the Antarctic was larger than expected, but the solar minimum is lasting longer than expected (we only just saw some sunspots this past week). Still, the ozone hole was only of an average size. According to Lu's theory, it should be larger.
40,000 years ago, Earths magnetic field was gone for a while, and the planet was hit hard by cosmic rays. It was a huge, rare event. The record of the time does not show climatic change as a result though.
It is believed that cosmic rays may play a small role in climate and ozone depletion, but the paper itself is very theoretical.

Co2 does force climate. We see it at work directly from satellite and ground station observations. It's not just theoretical and correlational.
CFCs also cause the greenhouse effect.

"E.U. Blames Others for ‘Great Failure’ on Climate
BRUSSELS — European Union leaders on Tuesday sought to deflect criticism that they had fumbled their strategy at the Copenhagen climate summit meeting, just as a feud between the British and the Chinese over whom to blame for the outcome worsened.
Andreas Carlgren, the environment minister of Sweden, the country holding the rotating E.U. presidency, said that the summit meeting had been a “great failure” partly because other nations had rejected targets and a timetable for the rest of the world to sign on to binding emissions reductions."

From your own cited article;
".... Surface measurements find more downward infrared radiation warming the planet's surface. This provides a direct, empirical causal link between CO2 and global warming.
Didn't you get the memo?
You're busted! So are your Green Offsets!
OGF Report: The East Coast; now, the West, Midwest.
However, OGF is flying, in his CO2 belcher, over the snow dump all the way to Hawaii.

"Holiday storm could snarl travel in West, Midwest
DENVER — Holiday travelers scrambled to adjust their plans Tuesday as a fast-moving snowstorm threatened to bring long delays along with a white Christmas for millions of people throughout the West and Midwest.
The storm system was already snarling traffic in Arizona on Tuesday, with blizzard-like conditions closing roads and causing a pileup involving 20 vehicles. South of Phoenix, a dust storm set off a series of collisions that killed at least three people.
The blustery weather in Arizona is part of a storm system that promised to bring more than a foot of snow in parts of Colorado and southern Utah by midday Wednesday. Blizzard warnings were likely on Christmas Eve in Kansas and other Plains states as the storm moves east.
The storm was expected to crawl across the Plains states through Christmas Day, with plenty of snow caused by a tropical jet stream pumping in moisture from the storm's south.
Stan Rose, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Pueblo, Colo., said the snowmaker would give millions of people a white Christmas."

"40,000 years ago .... The record of the time does not show climatic change as a result though. " Huh ?
Ice, two kilometers, thick peaked about 20,000 years ago over most of Canada.
Was still very thick only 10,000 years ago.
I don't know about you, but life under that much ice would be difficult.
Something has periodically caused mucho ice.
Our solar system, along with our earth, is being flung through space at a horrendous rate of speed. Cosmic rays are zinging here and there.
Something is periodically causing ice ages on earth. Interspersed with nice, interglacial warm periods. Some much warmer than today's (MWP)
The cosmos does not give a damn if some alarmists loose their shirts playing the carbon credit market.
Yet another myopic sciencematific study comes up with a divide-by-zero result ...
some would blame global warming and some should blame the injuns. but cretateous style extinction, I dont think so. permian style, not even close.

~Mark Francis
Wrong!
Annual temperature averages have been dropping for a decade since 1998.
Meanwhile, CO2 concentrations are still going up like an F-15 on afterburner.
The theory of CO2 increase forcing temperature climb has been falsified.
We see it by looking out our frost encrusted windows and believin' our own blinkin' eyes.
On another note, the Vostok Ices cores had already proved that temperature drives CO2 not the other way around, this was known BEFORE the Kyoto Protocols were decided upon.
The ground station "observations" have now been rock solidly proven, settled fact if you prefer, to have been fiddled to death and then, write this down if you don't know it, THE ACTUAL RAW DATA IS LOST! IT DOESN'T EXIST! FINI!!!
Probably shredded and erased by Dr. Phil Jones and his merry band of Climate Consensus Conmen.
You WarmAlarmists, Mark, are so finished that you don't know that you've lost the whole war.
Your climate fraud was exposed to the whole world on November 20th 2009 and you don't even know it you are so out-of-the-loop loopy.
Watch this video and grow wise, Mark:

==========
mark, some one forgot to send you the memo
ground station observations are not trust worthy, 89% of these stations in the USA, the most reliable on earth, do not, I repeat DO NOT fall within NASA's own specifide parameters. Therefore they can not be counted on, PERIOD
http://curly15.wordpress.com/2007/05/31/i-was-on-the-global-warming-gravy-train/
sums up a lot of what has been learned since 2000 or so, and seems to be somewhat ignored by John Cook.
Actually Canada's ground stations are more reliable than the USA....
That's why our friends at Environment Canada got really good at "adjusting" data.
Henrik Svensmark is mentioned in link provided by kakola @ 9:29. His web site is below. He has been working for several years on what he calls Cosmoclimatology.

Science is noble when it questions theory. It is base when it declares theory as unquestionable truth.
.
.
In 1988/1989, after reading something about "global-warming" I wondered why ANYBODY would worry about a degree or so, when the Earth clearly declared a global warming/cooling of about 15(C) degrees every year, year after year, century after century. [ -- hint: there is more land-area in the Northern hemisphere.]
I had assumed the general science I had learned many years earlier in high-school was approximately correct: a degree or so when compared with the temperature extremes between ice-ages was totally insignificant.
Now that climategate has demonstrated the particular, but widespread, fraud involved, and the accompanying pandemic subservience to stupidity and gullibility over all those years, I wonder what "schools of higher-learning" actually mean.
Does it take that much energy, time, and money to produce a puppet?
In retrospect, I guess it does. My opinion now is that "schools of higher-learning" have done us a great disfavour. They have consumed billions and billions of dollars to produce hundreds of thousands of puppets.
It's difficult to believe that somebody who didn't get puppetized, or got puppetized with a different coloured sock, cannot or does not have an opinion on the subject. They must also have gone to high-school. They did take some science; they did learn about ice-ages, they did learn about higher and lower temperatures.
Pity.

Soooo it was our old beer fridge in the basement that's guilty. And here we thought it was SUVs and wide screen TVs whot dun it!
After politics I think "science?" is the greatest catch all for social misfits.
CFCs were developed in the early 1930s. It seems questionable that they would be implicated in any prior warming events. Count me as a skeptic on this one.
C'mon you guys, this is a no brainer. Way back when the CFCs blew a biga$$ hole in the Ozone Layer and then all the sun ray cosmicky stuff leaked in and then we stopped using CFC thing generators and the hole healed up and haired over. Now the ice caps are melting.
Need anything else just ask me....

MUST SEE: A LIVELY DEBATE! CrossTalk on Climate: Dopenhagen? with Piers Corbyn & Bjorn Lomborg
Piers Corbyn made the points:-
● The Copenhagen summt is a thieves kitchen aimed at money making for carbon traders and controlling world development.
● The world is cooling while CO2 is rising and there is no evidence for the CO2 driving temperatures and climate
● Described the CO2-Global Warming theory as failed science based on falsified data.
● Challenged Michael MacCracken to provide observational evidence that CO2 changes drive temperature and climate and gave his email (piers@weatheraction.com) twice on air so the evidence can be sent.
● Called for the resignation of Dr Pachauri as chair of the IPCC because of his compromised position as director-general of the TATA (Indian based Steel makers) Energy Research Institute. TATA Steel is receiving £millions in EU Carbon Emissions allowances ('to Save the Planet') while making 1700 people redundant in the UK and also receiving carbon handouts for building replacement steel works in India as efficient as the steel works they are closing in the UK.
● Called for accountable Science and policy and called for international co-operation to use long range forecasts of extreme weather events (eg produced by Weather Action using solar activity) to prepare and defend against their effects.
