| Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our 2009 SDA Late Nite Radio Christmas Extravaganza. Tonight, for your delectation, here are Mr. Bob Hope, KBE, KCSG, & guests in the The Bob Hope Christmas Show, live from Berlin, Germany, during the Air Lift, in 1948 (26:41). [RealPlayer] |
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

This actually happened this evening:
I posted on Facebook that I had watched the film, "The Lives of Others", about the despicable STASI secret police of East Germany. I drew a comparison with Canada in that the assorted HRCs are on similar early paths of the STASI. And that, I added, is why we must fight them tooth & nail.
An acquaintance of mine in Seattle, a female immigrant from Brazil, challenged me, asking how the HRCs monitoring and control of free speech in Canada affected me.
At first I thought she was joking but apparently she is not.
I have many ideas about what I want to say but am curious how you would respond to such a challenge.
tell her we are already being dragged in front of kangaroo courts.
point her to Ezra Levant's blog
How you were affected? Driven to rage at the actions of the HRC's is how you were affected. That you were forced to watch taxpayer money being used to bankrupt and destroy the businesses of Canadian citizens. That religious freedoms were being abridged by the HRC's on a biased slant. That the HRC's have hacked into peoples private emails for their own purposes. That freedom of the press was actively challenged by the HRC's. What about the HRC's is not offensive?
Tell your friend, "First they came for the ..."
I do not know much of STASI and I have not seen the movie you referenced, but the HRC has become it's own entity and above reproach.
To the independent business owner, it is cheaper to right an apology and cut a check then to do the moral thing and fight it in court.
For obvious reasons, one being that the accuser has the state pay their legal costs, it is almost impossible for the average person to recover from the court costs even if they win.
Simply put, the HRC is in a win win situation.
about 3 minutes more of your time Robert W?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RYuJfAZJWc
scanning the cut up STASI files into computers and having them place the parts together again... cut up in the last days of the STASI.
Now wouldn't those be interesting HRC files to have access to. The names of all of the people that sought to sic the HRC on their fellow Canadians, or in the case of the Sock Puppets, sic them on Canadians.
Now we are hearing more murmurings about "radical action to save the climate" in the form of space-based actions to deflect heat away from the earth.
This is even more dangerous than the commie economics of global warming.
Imagine what could happen if these nut cases are allowed to proceed with their "remedial actions" and send the climate towards an ice age set-up.
The ironic fact is this -- human activity could modify climate more easily in this way (cooling from outside the system) than this postulated and overblown warming from within.
This will be our next big battle, I feel ... because the AGW lobby has not accepted defeat. Just like when communism "fell" it was an ambiguous defeat that may not be recorded that way by ultimate posterity.

"The costs of abstraction - On the intellectual irresponsibility of Soviet sympathizers.
One of the most extraordinary episodes in the intellectual history of the twentieth century—if, indeed, something that lasted half a century or more can properly be called an episode—is the moral and sometimes material support given by much of the western intelligentsia to the Soviet tyranny, a tyranny that made all previous tyrannies seem relaxed, liberal, and almost amateurish by comparison. Men who found the slightest circumscription of their own freedom intolerable raised hosannas to the most systematic and concerted abrogation of personal liberty yet attempted; many were those who strained at gnats to swallow a camel.
No doubt the explanation for this phenomenon is psychologically and sociologically complex. A commonly cited factor that supposedly contributed to it was ignorance of the real situation obtaining in the Soviet Union: intellectuals were therefore able to project on to the Soviet Union their utopian fantasies unconstrained by any appreciation of the sordid realities. This explanation, however, is entirely false.
I mean no disrespect to the brave and colossal labors of figures such as Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Robert Conquest, nor do I deny the scope of their actual historical effect upon the opinions of the Western intelligentsia, when I say that they added nothing whatever of deep moral significance to the material that was readily available in the west in the 1920s and 1930s, and that could and should have enabled people to form a proper moral judgment about the Soviet Union and its “experiment,” and this at the very time when it was doing its worst. Everything about the Soviet Union was known at the time; the problem was that nothing was believed.
Let us take the Ukrainian famine as an example. The dust jacket of Robert Conquest’s book The Harvest of Sorrow, published in 1986, says that that it “will register in the public consciousness of the West a sense of the darker side of the history of this century,” and so, no doubt, it did. But more than half a century earlier, in 1934, the British journalist Malcolm Muggeridge, who could hardly have been suspected of anti-Soviet prejudice or bias because he went to Russia actually intending to emigrate, hoping that his second child would be born a Soviet citizen, published a book called Moscow Winter.
It is a very barely fictionalized account of what Muggeridge saw in Russia: so barely fictionalized that, when he published his autobiography thirty-eight years later, he felt able to lift whole passages almost verbatim from it, save for the names of the characters. The book has not, so far as I am aware, been reissued as it was written, probably because it contains passages that are unpleasantly anti-Semitic in tone. The first chapter devoted to the Ukrainian famine begins:
The class war hung over the North Caucasus and over its population like a heavy cloud; filling the fields with weeds; killing off cattle and horses; and spreading famine and trouble everywhere. Under the direction of the OGPU, the Red Army ravaged the country. Hundreds of thousands of peasants were exiled, and thousands shot. Everything edible except some millet and potatoes was requisitioned by the government. These potatoes were counted over one by one like jewels.
Muggeridge goes on to recount the story of a peasant woman whose hut is visited by requisitioning soldiers, led by a Comrade Babel." (more)

I concur with with Lorne Gunther that his story is simmering away and will break big on the MSM next year. Be interesting to see MSM trust vaporize after it is revealed how long they sat on the story while pimping AGW quackery during COP15.

"Climate Change: The Religion of Copenhagen
by Caroline May
During the recent COP-15 Conference in Copenhagen, the United Nations claimed it wanted to maintain religious neutrality. It was a lie. Global Warming is the established religion at these international events.
This was made especially clear when, days before the event’s commencement, the Denmark Foreign Ministry rejected a donated delivery of Christmas fir trees. “We have to remember that this is a U.N. conference and, as the [Bella] center then becomes U.N. territory, there can be no Christmas trees in the decor, because the U.N. wishes to maintain neutrality,” explained Ministry official Svend Olling.
Religious objectivity, however, is impossible at a conference explicitly engaged in blind adherence to an unproven premise- a faith in the veracity of global warming. For though the science is not settled, participants convened to devise strategies for what they believe will be the world’s environmental salvation, the capping of carbon dioxide emissions.
Global Warming devotees’ religious fervor commands action, even if their deliverance comes at the expense of economic devastation. American disciples such as Al Gore and President Barack Obama are more than willing to sacrifice economic stability at the alter of Global Warming.
The faith dictates absolute advocacy for draconian carbon dioxide regulations such as the cap and trade scheme detailed in the House-passed “American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.” To Warming enthusiasts the $9.4 trillion reduction in aggregate GDP, the loss of another 2.5 million jobs, and increase in inflation-adjusted electricity prices by 90 percent, gasoline prices by 58 percent, and residential natural gas prices by 55 percent, all estimated to occur within the first 24 years under such a cap and trade scheme, are merely an afterthought.
Though economists have highlighted the dire financial implications of energy restriction ad nauseam and questions remain about the actual science, the Global Warming theory adherents are steadfast in their beliefs. Ironically, it seems that most of these Warmers -many of whom are often quick to proclaim religious believers as backward- stick to their faith with the unbending will of St. Paul.
Even in the wake of Climategate and new peer-reviewed studies -which give lie to consensus driven apocalyptic climate forecasts- by such renowned scientists as Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Dr. Stephen E. Schwartz, MIT’s Dr. Richard Lindzen, and University of Auckland’s Dr. Chris de Freitas, Warming adherents remain loyally convinced that man and his evil energy usage is destroying Mother Earth."

Just wanted to send a big Thank You to everyone who provided feedback on the HRCs and the STASI. Much appreciated!!!
For those who haven't seen it yet, I HIGHLY recommend The Lives of Others. It's not violent at all but incredibly chilling. I think it's important for every North American to see this film so that everyone realizes how vigilant we must be about excessive government control of our lives.
[ Bomb experts say there was more than enough explosive to bring down the Northwest jet, which had nearly 300 people aboard, had the detonator not failed ]
So it wasn't as the media and Obama spun - it was luck not heroics.
Works out doubly good, though. Three hundred people are still alive today and the media cannot spin their usual Islamic cover up - as when hard evidence is destroyed in the blast.
[The bomb was built and the plot organized, say U.S. officials, by al Qaeda leaders in Yemen, just north of the capital city of Sanaa.]

Here is further evidence of the parallel universe that the Obama Administration and their MSM sycophants live in.
Just a thought about the new security procedures. Will everyone be subject to these searches,or will some be excused because of their religious beliefs? I can imagine a scenario where the perpetually offended are exempted from searches and we are paying millions to those already searched.---http://www.cbc.ca/canada/windsor/story/2009/11/12/windsor-police-apology-091112.html

HONOLULU, Hawaii — The White House warned political foes Sunday not to provoke a partisan tug of war over terrorism, with President Barack Obama yet to publicly address the thwarted attack on a US airliner.
A political storm erupted over the attempt by a 23-year-old Nigerian to bring down a Northwest jet carrying 290 people, as senior Obama aides cranked up a sweeping national and homeland security operation.
But the president, vacationing in Hawaii, conspicuously has not commented on television about the Christmas Day drama, apparently seeking to project calm and avoid the political trauma and panic unleashed by past terror incidents."

The United States has demanded clarifications from Israel after IDF special forces killed three terrorists Saturday who murdered a civilian, Rabbi Meir Chai, on Thursday.
Calls were made to National Security Adviser Prof. Uzi Arad, apparently by senior U.S. Administration officials, in which he was asked to provide clarifications. The calls came from the United States after Palestinian Authority officials complained to the Americans that the IDF had carried out “executions.”
Arad informed the White House of details of the counterterrorist raid and rejected the PA officials' claims."

"Obama's Lost Face
Why did Chinese premier Wen Jiabao choose to publicly humiliate Barack Obama at Copenhagen? In their eyes, and in those of much of the world, he has lost face, and with it, power and influence. While getting widespread play overseas, this story has been kept very quiet by our disinterested, nonpartisan media (I haven't seen it mentioned in any major U.S. outlet).
After promising to meet the Messiah at 7:00 p.m., Premier Wen stood him up in favor of a meeting with the leaders of India, South Africa, and Brazil. Rather than wait, a no-doubt infuriated Obama stalked into the room in question and demanded, "Are you ready to see me, Premier Wen?" No word on Wen's reaction, though he did submit to a discussion on the spot that evidently sealed the release of the immortal and glorious Copenhagen Quasi-Agreement on Climate Change.
So with Barack Obama, we've reached the point where the leader of record of the most powerful state in history has become a man you can casually stand up. But the question remains: Why?"

"2 passengers detained after flight to Phoenix
PHOENIX — Authorities say they've detained two men thought to have been acting suspicious aboard a flight bound for Phoenix.
A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman says passengers aboard U.S. Airways Flight 192 from Orlando, Fla. Saturday night reported that two men were acting strangely.
The flight crew called for law enforcement and TSA officers to meet them when the plane landed at Phoenix's at a Sky Harbor International Airport at about 8 p.m. Authorities say the two men were met by Phoenix police and TSA officials at the flight's airport gate and later interviewed by FBI agents.
Police say nothing dangerous was found during a search of the plane and passengers' luggage.
TSA officials didn't immediately know the names, ages or hometowns of the two detained men."

"Of some importance
Marc Ambinder at the Atlantic explains the President’s muted reaction to the failed attempt to blow up the NWA to Detroit: he doesn’t want to dignify the attack by giving it attention. Now in all fairness to President Obama, this is Ambinder’s analysis of events, not the President’s.
There is a reason why Obama hasn’t given a public statement. It’s strategy.
Here’s the theory: a two-bit mook is sent by Al Qaeda to do a dastardly deed. He winds up neutering himself. Literally.
Authorities respond appropriately; the president (as this president is wont to to) presides over the federal response. His senior aides speak for him, letting reporters know that he’s videoconferencing regularly, that he’s ordering a review of terrorist watch lists, that he’s discoursing with his secretary of Homeland Security.
But an in-person Obama statement isn’t needed; Indeed, a message expressing command, control, outrage and anger might elevate the importance of the deed, would generate panic (because Obama usually DOESN’T talk about the specifics of cases like this, and so him deciding to do so would cue the American people to respond in a way that exacerbates the situation)."

Once again the actions of another MUSLIM terrorist causes more stupid ramped up security controls for all passengers! When will our governments have the balls to profile and then extensively search with body scans, strip searches, pat downs, whatever, all muslims, particularly men that meet this profile? If 99.9% of terrorists are muslim men, then for god's sake focus on them. Why is this so difficult in our PC world to take the appropriate action?
Now you can't stand up for the last hour of the flight nor have a blanket or bag on your lap. What is next, flying with clear plastic clothing, cameras in the washrooms, locked in our seats? The billions of dollars spent on idiotic security measures and the billions of hours of people's time is ludicrous when you consider this terrorist's father informed the authorities about his son's fanaticism yet they still allowed him on the flight with no passport.
How much longer can this continue until the airlines simply shut down.

" Now that the enviro nuts have finished handing out their "Fossil of the Day" and "Colossal Fossil" awards, unfairly smearing Canada at the just-completed Copenhagen climate summit, let's return the favour with some well-deserved honours of our own.
Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, we present the Copenhagen Flatulence Awards, honouring those who raised the art of generating hot air and gassy emissions to new intensity levels during the UN-sponsored festival of indignation.
---
The "I'm Not Really A Climatologist, I Just Play One on TV" Flatulence Award:
To Al Gore, who, having made a career out of mocking opponents for "getting the science wrong" on global warming, gets the science wrong on the melting of the polar ice cap, according to the scientist he says he got the science from.
---
The "That Old Man River, He Just Keeps Rolling Along" Flatulence Award:
To David Suzuki, for suggesting during a CBC interview -- twice -- that anyone worried about lost jobs if Canada's oil sands are shut down, would also have endorsed slavery in the American south.
---
The "I'm The King Of The World, Baby, King Of The World!!!" Flatulence Award:
To David Miller, who accepted two Canada-mocking fossil awards in Copenhagen and pronounced himself embarrassed on behalf of all Canadians, apparently unaware that a lame-duck Toronto mayor who would have been slaughtered in the next municipal election -- had he had the stones to run -- is about as fossilized as you can get.
---
The "Yes, I'll Have My Gateaux and Eat It Too" Flatulence Award:
To Quebec Premier Jean Charest, for going medieval on Alberta's oil sands, apparently unaware that oil money from Alberta helps to pay for Quebec's cradle-to-grave social programs.
---
The "Pay No Attention To That Man Behind the Curtain" Flatulence Award:
To Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, for having his environmental thingy in Copenhagen lambaste Stephen Harper for not doing enough to lower greenhouse gas emissions, days after Ontario's environment commissioner lambasted McGuinty for not doing enough to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
---
The "Somebody Has to Change Their Irresponsible, Carbon-Spewing Lifestyle To Save The Planet, But It Ain't Gonna Be Me" Flatulence Award:
To the Copenhagen delegates who booked 140 private jets and 1,200 limousines -- five of them hybrids -- to fly into and tool around the UN conference.
---
The "Okay, Now It's Just Getting !@$#%$ Stupid" Flatulence Award:
To UN Copenhagen delegates who applauded Third World thug Robert Mugabe and Venezuela's loopy Hugo Chavez, for demanding more money from the West for fighting global warming, as if it won't go down exactly the same sinkhole our foreign aid does now.
---
The "We'll Tell You What's News, You Miserable Little Peons" Flatulence Award:
To all those Canadian media outlets, and you know who you are, who kept insisting climategate wasn't a real story, without ever explaining what climategate was.
And in conclusion, some positive examples of those who took the high-flying, hypocritical gas bags in Copenhagen down a notch:
---
The "Is That An Iceberg In Your Pocket Or Are You Happy To See Me?" Award:
To Danish sex trade workers, who, angered by a warning from Copenhagen's mayor to conference delegates not to make use of their services, offered free sex to anyone who could produce their conference identity card, plus a copy of the mayor's warning that was sent to local hotels.
---
The "My Government Went to COP 15 And All I Got Was This Lousy Economy" Award:
To the Washington-based National Center For Public Policy Research, which handed out free T-shirts in Copenhagen featuring the above motto -- along with a photo of a soup line during the Great Depression.
And finally, overheard at newsbusters.org: "Climate scientists today said 2000 to 2009 is the warmest decade on record ... And they have the manipulated data to prove it!" "

== agreed. I think this film is available in DVD stores.
On a transatlantic flight I took a few months back, I did everything the airline required, down to putting my shampoo and other liquid toiletries in 100ml, see-through plastic containers, which I then put in a see-through plastic bag right down to the required measurement: a real pain in the neck. Security didn't even check them. I was P-O-ed.
How do they know what I was carrying in them?
I'm with someone else on this thread who says for G*d's sake, for common sense's sake, search the persons and baggage of those in the group who are known to use terrorist tactics in airplanes -- which would be Muslim males. They're offended? SO WHAT? Get them to put some pressure on their co-religionists to stop being terrorists if they object to being searched.
We in the West need to cut the crap about not allowing racial profiling on the grounds that it's not politically correct. What a crock. If "racial profiling" -- i.e. common-sense pre-boarding procedures to ensure the safety of all passengers -- is going to make our travel safer, then we need to do it, rather than treat every passenger as a potential terrorist.
What about my rights as a non-terrorist? Shouldn't they count for something?
