A man reportedly set off firecrackers on Delta Flight 253 that was carrying 278 passengers to Detroit from Amsterdam.

"The president was notified of the incident this morning between 9:00 and 9:30 Hawaii time by the president's military aide," White House spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.

Obama spoke by conference call with national security advisers and then he "instructed that all appropriate measures be taken to increase security for air travel," Burton said.

"The president is actively monitoring the situation and receiving regular updates. There is currently no change to his schedule," he said.

In a sermon preached before King James I on Christ-masse Day, 1622, he unwrapped the significance of Matthew II, verses 1 & 2, in particular, the *errand* of the Magi:

Bp. Andrewes was a meticulous craftsman of language. He could carve and paint the chiaroscuro of meaning into simple, clear representations of truth. Artists know that their creations are often the result of meticulous dedication to the seemingly insignificant component.

Artists are skeptics because they spend their time answering questions with chisels or brushes, chalk or cameras -- even words. Art is never settled.

Those Wise Men were skeptics. Bp. Andrewes was a skeptic. That's why they know so much. Like Mark Steyn, they hope they're wrong; that's what makes prophets write so much.

Artists, like real scientists, aren't gullible -- the opposite of skeptical.

There's quite a tally of muslim attacks listed at http://thereligionofpeace.com/ (scroll down to the bottom) ... in fact if you have a quick look through the past month, you'll see that the muslims haven't taken any days off, so to speak. Most days have multiple attacks and murders listed, regardless of it being friday, sunday, your birthday, or any day.
So I don't think it's a matter of "us right wingers" letting up or not for 24 hours.

I do not think it will be easy to delay Obamism. It is not just that both houses of Congress are under liberal leadership with ample majorities, with a White House and captive media egging them on. The problem is that now the entire engine of the federal government is harnessed in the most unapologetic way to pushing through a far left agenda. There is no shame, no hesitancy in using the full powers of the state.

How does that work out? Without qualification (remember we are in a new age of transparency and ethical reform) votes are bought with hundred-million-dollar earmarks; the attorney general predicates judicial action on the political ramifications of indicting or not indicting; federal bureaucracies (watch the EPA if cap and trade stalls) are devoted to the new Caesar rather than the letter of the law.

Such a strange scenario we have found ourselves in—a clear majority of Americans is opposed to almost everything Obama has to offer; congressional representatives know they are acting against the will of the people, but know too that they are offered all sorts of borrowed money for their districts to compensate for their unpopular actions. And a charismatic commander in chief believes that he can charm even the angriest of critics, and that anything he promises (Iran’s deadlines, closing of Guantanamo, new transparency, no more lobbyists, etc) means zilch and can be contextualized by another “let me be perfectly clear” speech spiced with a couple of the usual “it would have been impossible for someone as unlikely as me to have become President just (fill in the blanks) years ago”

No, I would not count Obama out. So what drives his agenda? What are its origins?

I enjoyed the presentation by the choir. Beautifully done.

I do urge anyone and indeed,for those as well who are not religious, go to visit St Paul's Cathedral. This goes for non-Christians also. This if ever in London.

The crypt alone and the monuments including a marble depiction of Lord Nelson's death are worth a sombre moment of thought.

Some of the most powerful and giants of another day also rest. Guided up by cockney sounding cassocked persons, using two way radios to the very top. I treasure the memories. I might try to visit one last time and I was born in 1931.

Many thanks for “Hark . . .” My daughter and I attended a service at St. Paul's this fall. (We're both choral singers and love the English choral sound and repertoire.)

We were rather surprised by how young the trebles were: the oldest looked about nine and there were more than a few seven year olds. With the men, they sang Ralph Vaughan Williams's Mass in G minor—very well! We were most impressed. (And, of course, the building is magnificent: the service was right under the dome. The acoustics were phenomenal.)

The dedication to tradition and high standards that produced such a fine performance has all but disappeared from our government schools. The difference in output is staggering. Poor us. (Though England is in very bad shape: its cathedral schools and choirs are the exception to most of what’s going on over there. One wonders how much longer there will the considerable resources needed to sustain such institutions. Certainly, without tourists, the resources would have run out long ago.)
