Reader Jim H. emails -

I was reading your site tonight and had a thought regarding the Islamic convention that just wrapped in Toronto.

All we've heard here for the last 2 days is about the chaos at Pearson Airport, something like 15% of flights to the US cancelled, incredible delays etc. I'm given to understand the problems are not as severe in other parts of the country or in the US. And then I began to wonder if the presence of 8000 politically active Muslims in the city might have more to do with the extensive searches and cancelled US flights than some guy whose underwear caught fire.

Not the sort of angle our local media is likely to suggest. But if you were an edgy head of Homeland Security and knew 8000 people who don't like you very much were camped that close to the border, you might be putting some pressure on your opposite number here to tighten things up.

Yes, I suspect so.

I've been listening to Mark Steyn guest hosting Rush Limbaugh's show today. A female caller named Jessica called up and said, "Why should we just place our hands on our knees for the last hour of every flight? Instead, let's go all the way where the Obama Administration wants us to: reach way forward, grab our ankles, and assume the position."

You know, this could be combined with Obamacare by having a team of doctors & nurses strolling the aisles, performing cavity checks for "health reasons" on every passenger.

Remember, it's all for your own good!

Robert; Pleeasee Don't make any suggestions.

Hmmm. On tonight's National there was a rather extensive report on logjams at Pearson. One gentleman said - not verbatim here - that the problem wasn't at the security stations - according to him, there were eight people in the line, and he breezed through - but rather at the ticket counters. That seemed kind of odd to me, given that the airport delays were being attributed to security concerns, but Jim H's conjecture might provide an explanation: perhaps the *identity* of the passengers, as could be referenced in a check-in database but not at security/scan stations, was being carefully checked, as opposed to the, erm, passengers' toothpaste.

I wonder how the media, the HRCs, and the Jihadis would react to a 15000 strong convention on the subject of: Preventing Shariah and the Colonization of the West by Islam?

EBD - I flew out of Pearson this afternoon (Terminal 1) to Regina - geez, it's cold here - and I can assure you that the line up for security, not check-in, was horrendous for US bound travelers. I actually could not see where the line started from my place in the domestic security line (which took about 3 minutes...)

It was not related to check-in at all.

further historical goings-on in muzzieland:

then there was the intfada supporter who snuck the word past the ontari-ari-ario auto license folks by lopping off the 1st letter. or sumptin. upon being found out, was advised to return plates forthwith, whereupon ...(how do you say 'go stuff yerself' in arabic?).

the dude was reminded the plates are the property of the province etc etc. I didnt hear anything else on the story but I extremely (lots of extremists around these parts) doubt if they stayed on his vehicle.

really. the *attitude* of some sectors of society.....

Yeah, this must be a trying time to be anywhere near where the Muzzies are going for travel. What if the f'n thing goes off when he's in the line just over there. What if he gets pissed off and ends it all at my counter, what if.... G'D Muslims. 150 conflicts in the world and in every case, one side is Muslim.

When is Islam going to be banned in Canada?

I'm waiting for airport security to require all men to wear kilts (Scots style) and women to wear skirts and no underwear, with everyone passing over a security camera in the floor pointing upward (what would the feminists have to say about that?).

"New rules imposed by the U.S. also limit travellers' movements during a flight. During the final hour of flight, passengers must remain seated and will not be allowed to access carry-on baggage or have personal belongings on their laps."

This was a successful terror attach. Our side is in the hands of people too stupid to be entrusted with a pet rabbit. The way things are going it will only be a matter of time before the general public is banned from flying all together.

Heck, it won't be long before we all have to fly nekkid.

Someone from El Al commented on the difference between their security and everybody else. "You screen for weapons, we screen for terrorists." BTW, this does include profiling, racial and psychological. Safest airline in the world. The Jihadists have pretty much given up trying to down an El Al plane.

Yet another industry forthcoming to be a ruin by the barbarians. Of course our political elite nor the Academic World care. Since they fly private Jets.
So the Luddites win another one. No wonder the leftist environmentalists love Islam so much.
Film, eating pork or drinking soon to come. I take it Women will be tented up & treated like animals.
All to show where not bigots while the Colinizers plot our destruction. Its not like their hiding the fact. With our tax money yet!
You know when I grew up we expected things to get better not devolve into Chaos.
Its come the time we choose. Either we become fellow savages or take up the the touch for our civilization.

New York Post:

"Lying to ourselves: Blindness to Islam ties helps terrorists

On Christmas Day, an Islamist fanatic tried to blow up an airplane whose passengers were mostly Christians. And we helped.

Our government gets no thanks for preventing a tragedy. Only the bomber's ineptitude preserved the lives of nearly 300 innocents.

How did we help Umar Abdulmutallab, a wealthy Muslim university graduate who decided that Allah wanted him to slaughter Christians on their most joyous holiday?

By continuing to lie to ourselves. Although willing -- at last -- to briefly use the word "terror," yesterday President Obama still refused to make a connection between the action, the date and Islam.

The Big Lie.

"This means that there will be no reality check until the entire mental bubble is punctured through a painful crash with actual reality."

"The perfect world of Reason Alone is beautiful in all its symmetry and mathematical precision.

There is only one problem with it: It is a lie.

"Unfortunately, the media, the political and intellectual leaders as well as the education system have become passionately dedicated to preserving and upholding this lie as The Only Truth and will ruthlessly harass any dissenters who suggest alternative ideas.

This means that there will be no reality check until the entire mental bubble is punctured through a painful crash with actual reality. By the time that happens, the collapse may well take much of the edifice of Western civilization with it."

Brian M,

Israeli security at their airport is extensive and layered. They screen for weapons, as a routing measure, but the most important part is the human screening.

They do it with people walkng the lines and having conversations with people, and they do it with people watching the crowds through cameras.

The human screeners are highly trained to read people for lies and discomfort. They will engage you in conversation about the weather and proceed to ask you about politics, the news and maybe more serious topics. The issue is they will also capture anyone with an anti authoritarian streak who gets their back up over this, as happened to an acquaintence of mine, white of irish lineage. It isnt just arabs or "muslims" they target or speak to....since israeli's know their enemies and their sympathizers come in all shapes sizes and colours.

Banning all muslims is silly, but pretending that the heart of the problem isnt within that community is equally silly.

Western military tradition has succeeded through technology, thats the histroy. We shouldnt abandon these paths. But we shouldnt be so enamoured with that we abandon other tactics, like the human side or the bigger picture. Use technology, like IT to better screen who doesnt belong, use technology to help analyze human intelligence or better train screeners etc. At the end of the day, we will lose this war if we lose our will to fight....thats a societal level thing.

Right now, I want some of these other loose ends cleared, maybe they are maybe they arent the confidene level isnt high. Was there soemone filming th eflight, was there a second man arrested on that flight, was there a "sherpa" in amsterdam, did the guy board without a passport, was the mule drugged?

They at least have confirmed that the material was big enough to have brought the airliner down.

As Stephen's comments show, the Israelis take an approach to security measures that should be considered seriously by North American governments. On the other hand, one of the reasons for the effectiveness of those measures is that most Israelis (and certainly those tasked with security) do understand that they are engaged in a war against terror, do understand that there are large numbers of people who wish to destroy them, and are personally invested in the preservation of their own state and people. As I endure the ordeal of airline travel in this country and the USA, there doesn't seem to be the same awareness and commitment on the part of those whose main task is to protect the public.

Once again our academics and politicians are flummoxed. They are wondering how it can be that people are not acting according to their pet theory of Materialism. They are even more confused because their most prominent god, technology, is not helping in their endeavour. What ever shall they do. If they admit that people do not always act according to material motivations then they are tacitly admitting that there is more to life than a full belly and lots of sex. If they admit that technology can not keep a rabid practitioner of the Death Cult from killing people then.... Of course their solution is obvious more bread, circus' and whiz bang technology. Yeah that'll do the trick! Can't let the swine lift their noses from the slop trough you know or else they will completely destroy the elite's comfy lifestyle with all its perks and international travel......Why the elite might miss out on a conference somewhere. Technology that's the answer its always worked before.

Quote of the day:

"We've spent eight years looking for little scissors and toenail clippers," said Ken Dunlap, IATA's director of security in North America. "Perhaps the emphasis should be looking for bad people."

I fly very little: Four times in the past 10 years.

What I noticed about the "security" for a recent transatlantic flight I took was how lax it was. The security personnel spent more time talking and kibitzing with each other than they did inspecting our carry-on luggage.

I was aghast at how slap-dash their attitude was and how inattentive they were. If we're serious about airport security, the whole enterprise needs to be reappraised and fixed NOW.

Re-entry to Pearson was another disconcerting experience. Among the 20 or so immigration officers on whose shoulders rested entry into Canada, I couldn't identify one that represented my racial background (British). Every one of these officers was from a visible minority: Middle Eastern, East Indian, Asian, African. You'd have thought from this lineup that Canada was, primarily, a country of visible minorities.

Something's askew here. As long as we perpetrate the big lie that all cultures are equal (ask many Africans how they feel about what happened to their countries after the British left; ask Afghan women how they felt when the Taliban forced them into burqas and told them they could no longer leave their homes to work) we're going to incur greater and greater problems at all levels of society.

"Multiculturalism" is a Western construct of secular, humanist, socialist, one-world government, overlords who dearly wish to deep-six Christianity, which champions individual liberty, and Christians, who are empowered by their faith to stand up against collectivist tyranny.

"Multiculturalism" is a holding tank for the masses while our secular, humanist, socialist, one-world government, overlords suck life and liberty out of all of us, led by the hapless do-gooders and Pollyannas who've fallen for the multi-culti goop.

We'd better wake up fast to what we've allowed to happen to us or we're done like a dinner (I can already smell the sizzle). Sadly, however, Christianity, which for centuries has been the West's great defence against the Islamic jihad, has been relegated to the basement of society and is mocked as passe, as a "fairytale," as the opiate of the masses.

The actual opiate of the masses is multiculturalism, touted as the way forward, the new dawn of the brotherhood of man, yada, yada, yada. Under the multicultural banner, all I see up ahead is darkness, all I hear is the steady marching of feet as we're herded into the multicultural boxcars.

New dawn, my foot. The new Dark Ages is more like it.

the Tel Aviv airport has an unnerving number of rubber gloves dropped on the floor in the four stage , several hour check in procedure.

I once ended up on an airplane in Toronto without going through security. they had not checked my baggage through to Halifax from Calgary so I ran down to the baggage handling with the intention of retrieving it and getting it rechecked and thru. however, it was ScairCanada so we were late and the transfer time was only minutes long. so I ran up the down escalator and ended up back in the departure lounge with full luggage. there was a guard at the top to prevent this. but since he looked alot more like Osama than I do , he let me through.

I am actually quite happy with Sikh guards. Look up the history of the religon and given the enmey targetting us, radical Islam, I am more than happy with a turbaned guy who is carrying a dagger. There is no love lost between Sikh's and Islamists.

Stephen, most of the immigration officers weren't Sikhs. But, I had a hard time seeing where my culture/race fit into the so-called Canadian mosaic, even though my ancestors arrived here over 200 years ago and helped to build Canada into a democracy envied the world over.

John G Chittick @ 1:08 am, I think such a conference would be a great idea and who cares what the media says. They're history.

Batb,

I have seen lots of "Anglo Saxon" customs agents, both at the airport and the border. Airport security, the guards, are a different story.

"I am actually quite happy with Sikh guards."

Brian Mallard @ 3:15 am, very interesting. I think we could learn a lot of lessons from the Israelis.

I vote for the later, but the torch will have to include to fighting savagery with savagery, somethin' the milquetoast leftards in our civilization can't get their puny heads around.

Canada sadly is turning into a nation of guilt ridden "ass kissers", and I for one am damn sick of it. I curse Trudeau's memory.

batb @ 10:23 am: "The actual opiate of the masses is multiculturalism.."

That should be the title of a new book that fully examines this issue. Western leftards are still soooo hopelessly stuck in the materialist view that they have a hard time even dealing with the exact nature of post-colonial Cold War era, never mind and heaven forbid, the new problem that exploded in our faces on 9/11. They are still raving on and on about imperialism. Dolts.

happy infidel @ 1:26 pm, I confess to being the only western Canadian who actually like Trudeau and one of the main reasons I liked him is he knew how to deal with terrorists. Witness his response to the October crisis - the invocation of the War Measures Act and the arrest and detention of hundreds Canadian citizens.

He was heavily criticized for that by the media, but he didn't back down and was actually rather contemptuous of the media's spaghetti-like backbones. That was one time when his arrogance was actually quite beautiful. His backbone was forged from steel.

As a Flight Service Director when bidding for my seniority awarded monthly schedule,I made it paramount not to fly wide bodied aircraft and nothing over three and a half hours, not enough fuel to cause the desired collateral damage. This last attempt is curious as it was just the flight that was targeted.Oh well, back to racial profiling again.

You reap what you saw: allow a communist traitor to institute policies for mass importation of troublemakers, degradation of education, government, family values and you get hostility from your neighbour to the South. Canada should have buried Turdoe in a cardboard box on a dump instead of carrying his carcass around the country with fanfare, like Lenin's body displayed in mausoleum by Kremlin wall. Acorn does not fall far from tree.

Louise....

Marxists never take take dissent or insurection kindly.

Sasquatch??? You must be responding to one of my comments, but which one?

Well, some of these comments are a bit over the top for my taste, but I do sense that there is a limit that has been reached in testing the tolerance of "The West".

For everything in the world, there is a tipping point - and I think we're pretty much at it now . . . . FWIW.

Pretty soon we're going to have to start asking the tough questions, such as whether a retired farmer flying from Regina to Vancouver requires the same degree of civilizational risk as certain other demographic groups flying between other destinations.

Looking for weapons alone rather than focusing on individuals of interest will soon become horribly expensive.

Erik, the only problem with that is that the Islamists will find ways to plant bombs on farmers or dress up one of their own to look like a farmer. I would think there may be a few National Farmers Union types who may actually volunteer to do the job.

Well lookie here. Someone has finally had the b@lls to place some of the blame for this at the foot of academe. It's about gawd dam*ed time.

Louise, that's interesting. Like I said, I think that a tipping point is approaching or has been reached, where people will finally start asking difficult questions.

I guess electing Obama didn't solve all the world's problems . . .

My dog likes to smell crotches, perhaps it's time to train bomb sniffing dogs to sniff crotches. I mean the fanatics are now wearing explosive laden maxi-pads, can the burka be far behind? Hum there could be a market for Islamists' inspired maxi-pads, we could leave a hole in the middle for their condomn filled explosives. Kill PCness and let us take on the Islamists in the court of public opinion, Islam isn't a race and it's time we schooled the political left on that fact.

As was said before, we are applying band-aid solutions to a rather serious problem. Why ban two carry-on bags when the real problem is a poor little rich boy who thinks taking down an airplane is a good idea? We will have to profile people, compile no-fly lists and use extra technology if it means keeping air travel safe and convenient for innocent people.

Erik, the "tipping point" comes when we rid ourselves of this sham called political correctness. That has finally started, but IMO it won't be complete, at least here in Canada, until we scale back the human rights commissions and get them out of the business of thought policing. I only hope it's not too late for Europe.

Speaking of Obama, I await the US mid-term elections with bated breath.

[ Isaac Yeffet, the former head of El Al airlines, explains why Umar Abdulmutallab would never have made it onto one of El Al’s flights .] hotair.com

Louise, I've mentioned here before that whenever a sex scandal affects the Catholic Church, coverage is widespread, and (deserving) apologies are forthcoming; whereas if there is an incident such as the Christmas Day attempt, the press sits back in its chair and tries to think of something else.

Why not ask prominent imams for public statements? Why not go to CAIR and ask them what they think? Do they distance themselves from these bombers? Do they condemn murder in the name of Islam?

Where are the reporters? Where is the questioning spirit of the press?

Erik, no muslim will ever distance themselves from a shahid.

Thanks for expanding my vocabulary Aaron - a few years ago the only Arabic I knew was "salaam". Now I know a few more words.
