Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here are Johnny Cymbal and the boys performing Mr. Bass Man, with Ronnie Bright (from The Valentines) on bass, in 1963 (2:39). Johnny was born in Scotland, he was adopted by Nikolas Cymbal (who was a Polish national and a member of the Free Polish Forces stationed in Scotland during World War II), they emigrated to Canada, and then Johnny moved to Cleveland, where he first worked with Sid Lawrence at the age of 13. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Muslim travels cross-border with “nearly $1-million in gold coins from the Canadian mint.*”

“Flight instructor released after month in custody

A Saudi-born flight instructor who was stopped at the Canadian border with nearly $1-million in his van has been released after more than a month in custody.

Khaled Nawaya had a permanent residence visa and was planning to move to British Columbia when guards at the Douglas border crossing discovered nearly $1-million in gold coins from the Canadian mint. They also found a ring bearing the logo of Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based Islamist organization, some 9/11 videos and a scarf depicting two former U.S. and Israeli leaders as monkey.

An Immigration and Refugee Board adjudicator released Mr. Nawaya on the condition that he provide documentation on the source of his money. Mr. Nawaya said most of the money came from a lawsuit he won in the United States where he has lived since 1993.”

Maz2, saw the piece on tonight's The National. Stunning. Heavy focus on the man's apparent "innocence", painting him as an okay guy, while establishing that he's a Hezbollah supporter, as if that's some sort of sidebar.

Adler was on fire against the Liberals (and liberals) today. I loved listening to it though I fear that when the Tories do get a majority, many SDA regulars like me will be disappointed.

Oooooh Kate's e-mail was to Adler was read around 52 minutes - audio here.

By the way, one of the guests was Rebecca Scott, one of the reporters for CKNW here in Vancouver. I don't know much about her and don't know her politics but being a single woman, statistically she is in THE most liberal group in society.

Since I never watch CNN, I didn't hear this until I watched the "Daily Show" tonight, but Lou Dobbs has resigned "to contribute to a more informed debate". Since the square root of Dobbs' IQ is comfortably in the single digits, one might wonder what he is thinking about, except, given the first clause of this increasingly convoluted sentence, one might better wonder if he thinks at all. Whew.

Also, on last night's show, Stewart referred to a Fox News report showing an anti-Obama rally in Washington from earlier this week. The initial Fox shots showed a fairly small crowd on a sunny day, but then changed to shots of massive crowds on an overcast day. Stewart showed pretty clearly that the latter shots were taken from the "Tea Party" rally from September. So, today, on Fox, Hannity apologized to Stewart and admitted the (unintentional) error. Stewart then used that as the entree into two minute montage alleging Fox's malfeasance at each and every turn.

So, Hannity apologizes for a mistake, and Stewart implies he not only lied deliberately yesterday, but that Fox news lies deliberately at all times. That's what I call class.

Hmmm. Never recall ever hearing Mr Bass Man.

Musta slept right through it.

However, Blue Moon still rings a di-di-dinga-dong dong dong bell.

(what were we thinking then?)

Hey Robert, maybe we should start our own party?

Maz2 - is there any reference out there that identifies what form the missing gold is in? Coins? Bars? Do they even know?

Johnny Cynmbal also had a hit called Cinnamon in 1969 under the name Derek (no surname).

Allan, I have fantasies about creating a Common Sense, Fiscally Conservative Party but intuitively don't believe it would go anywhere. On the one hand, it would do the kinds of things that so many people tell me they'd like a political party to stand for. But on the other hand, with the Liberals & NDP dangling all sorts of shiny bobbles in front of the voters, it would be too hard for them to resist. Plus, the Canadian MSM would demonize us like crazy. Sad, but I believe true.

"Lee Harvey Oswald photo real: Computer expert

A photograph of accused John F. Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, which for many years was thought by conspiracy theorists to be forged by authorities, is real, says an American computer scientist.

Hany Farid, an expert in digital forensics at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, has found a new way to analyze photos using 3D imaging and discovered the shadows in the photograph are consistent with a single light source.

"If this photograph is fake, then it would almost certainly point to a broader conspiracy because it means the police doctored a photograph to try to spin a story," said Farid, in a Dartmouth College video posted on YouTube.

The problem people have had since the photo was made public in the 1960s is that they were concerned the shadow from Oswald's nose didn't match the shadows on the ground, suggesting the picture was a fake.

Farid said the shadow cast by his body goes back and to the right which suggests the light is low and the shadow on his nose suggests the light is much higher."

"The real flu story

So far, fewer have died this year than normal

Isn't the real story about H1N1 -- despite all the fears and panic over it -- is it's far less deadly than the normal seasonal flu?

I had that discussion with Manitoba's chief public health officer Dr. Joel Kettner and some of his first-year medical students who were observing his work yesterday.

Kettner has always said Manitoba has about 100 confirmed deaths from seasonal flu every year. This year, the only strain of influenza public health officials are seeing in Manitoba is H1N1. And so far, we've only had eight deaths from this supposedly very deadly disease.

Shouldn't the real story be, "flu deaths way down this year?"

"How U.N. redefined 'pandemic' to heighten alarm over H1N1

In light of a perceived swine flu outbreak, the World Health Organization raised its influenza pandemic alert to its second highest level in May – but evidence reveals the agency may have made it easier to classify the flu outbreak as a pandemic by changing its definition to omit "enormous numbers of deaths and illness" just prior to making its declaration.

WHO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, issued its pandemic declaration – the first in 40 years – just as 74 countries had reported 144 deaths from the novel H1N1 infection.

The world was gripped with fears of swine flu as the alert increased from Phase 5 to Phase 6, the highest level. Immediately, pharmaceutical companies began working to develop vaccines, and countries tailored their responses to address the situation.

Dr. Thomas Frieden, who assumed leadership of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, on June 8, announced that the U.S. would respond aggressively to the virus.

"There has been excellent global cooperation with the World Health Organization, with countries around the world," Frieden said. "This is one of the many conditions that reminds us that we are all connected and many of our decisions in the U.S. will rely on good information from countries in Latin America, in Africa, in Asia, Australia and elsewhere. It's very important that we confront this jointly."

The current WHO phase of pandemic alert remains at 6, indicating a full-blown global pandemic.

But in early May, just prior to the initial declaration, WHO made little-noticed changes to its definition of a pandemic."

Multiculturalism is us.

This from continuous articles in today's Toronto Sun on pages 3-5.

-Robert Flagiello 18 shot dead outside a restaurant. Shooter is a black male.
-Shawn Amos, black male, on trial for beating an innocent man to death.
-Attempted armed robbery of poppy fund boxes from a Legion branch in Scarborough thwarted by 84 year old John Dietsch and 64 year old Earl Gray. Police are hunting for male, black.

Of course the common thread appearing in these articles, which are almost an every day occurance, would never be picked up by Mayor Miller or the rest of his socialist hand-wringing pack of appeasers.

regarding H1N1, my GP's opinion is
- it hasn't been thoroughly tested like the regular annual flu vaccine, and,
- the hype is based on economics, not medicine.

regarding poppy boxes, has anyone else noticed a trend amongst the common hoodlums to make off with the things? how much does the avg poppy box hold? 20 - 30 bucks tops? sign of the times folks, sign of the times !!!

What a surprise -- that someone who shouts "Allahu Akbar" (the "God is great" jihadist battle cry) as he is shooting up a room of American soldiers might have Islamist motives. A significantly smaller U.S. presence in Afghanistan may paradoxically generate more anti-Americanism outside Afghanistan and ultimately more anti-Western terrorism than a more conventional military approach. This is because jihadi propaganda today relies on visually powerful symbols to mobilize people, and intermittent "surgical" strikes, and the casualties they cause, may create more such symbols than continuous conventional warfare...

"Obama Says He Would Be ‘Honored’ to Visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki

(CNSNews.com) – Visiting the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki – targets of a U.S. atomic bomb attack that hastened the end of World War II – would be “meaningful,” President Obama said Friday in Tokyo.

“I certainly would be honored – it would be meaningful for me to visit those two cities in the future. I don’t have immediate travel plans, but it’s something that would be meaningful to me.”

In an interview with a Japanese network earlier this week, Obama said something similar: "The memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are etched in the minds of the world, and I would be honored to have the opportunity to visit those cities at some point during my presidency," he said on Tuesday."

OPP, province not liable for Caledonia injuries: lawyer
THE CANADIAN PRESS
Published 43 minutes ago

HAMILTON – A lawyer for the Crown says a couple suing the province of Ontario and provincial police over the handling of an aboriginal occupation were harmed by the activities of protesters.

But in the Crown's opening statement today, David Feliciant says admitting harm doesn't necessarily equal liability.

He says the question for the court isn't whether Dave Brown and Dana Chatwell were harmed, but whether the government and police were the cause – which he says they were not.

Chatwell and Brown's home in Caledonia, Ont., borders a former housing development site that has been occupied by aboriginal protesters since February 2006 in a land claim dispute.

Court heard Thursday that the couple has endured threats, intimidation and vandalism from the protesters and they now suffer from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Feliciant says the Crown will argue that Brown and Chatwell at times provoked the protesters and exacerbated a delicate situation.

A key adviser to Nato forces warned today that Barack Obama risks a Suez-style debacle in Afghanistan if he fails to deploy enough extra troops and opts instead for a messy compromise.

David Kilcullen, one of the world's leading authorities on counter-insurgency and an adviser to the British government as well as the US state department, said Obama's delay in reaching a decision over extra troops had been "messy". He said it not only worried US allies but created uncertainty the Taliban could exploit...

Either put in enough firemen to put the fire out or get out of the house. That is my analogy of where we are. Either of those approaches could potentially work."...

Illegal activity in Caledonia unrelated to protest, court hears

By Allison Jones, THE CANADIAN PRESS

Six Nations members have been occupying the site in Caledonia, Ont., since February 2006. Dave Brown and Dana Chatwell, whose home borders the property, are suing the province and the police force for $7 million, alleging the police failed to protect them from repeated threats, intimidation and harassment from the protesters.

After a failed raid on the property on April 20, 2006, the protesters erected barricades blockading the town’s two main roads.

Court heard excerpts Friday from an interview conducted under oath on Dec. 11, 2008 with provincial police Insp. Brian Haggith, who said the actions surrounding the blockades were “all unlawful.”

“It blockaded the road,” he said. “They set up a checkpoint... like a customs.”

“I know we asked them if they would kindly remove the barricades,” Haggith said in the interview. “They said no.”

.....In another incident in May 2006, which also occurred off the housing development site, protesters caused about $1 million in damage by burning down a hydro station, court heard. In normal circumstances arrests would be made following such vandalism, Haggith said, but the hydro station was “off-limits to the police...that particular day.”
