This is the moment when the masses of asses in Moronto, Dumbtreal and Vanpoofter all say in unison:
"duh... whazzat?"
"With the window for a negotiated exemption to Buy American for Canadian companies narrowing, manufacturers are losing faith in the Harper government's slow-moving effort to win over the Obama administration"
It's not that Harper isn't moving fast enough, it is that Obama and his goons won't budge. Obama admitted that Harper was constantly raising the issue.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the liberals took Harper to court so he would be forced to beg Obama on this issue too.
Has Obama bowed to the Governor General yet?
That'll be a sign. So, let me get this straight.....
Owebumble creates the $787 Billion porkulus package, with the 'Buy American' stipulation.
Owebumble then tries to force through his Health plan, forcing huge new taxes on businesses and individuals, to pay for the 'health care' of others.
Businesses, getting the largesse of government spending, feed the government back some of the porkulus money, known as health taxes.
Individuals, hired through the funding of the porkulus program, get significant earnings stripped from their incomes, in the form of health taxes, up to $15,000 per year according to some sources, which go back to Owe and his socialist cabal. or, you go to jail, according to Moonbat Pelosi.
Can you say 'House of Cards'? Connect the dots, this is redistribution at its worst. it looks like lots of money moving through the system, doing a lot of different things, but it is not growth based, nor based upon real (business) based earnings.
That's the same theoretical house of cards the NDP was trying in BC through the late 90's, which ended in a dismal failure. More government spending, through higher and higher taxes, does not stimulate economies, they actually retract.
How is it going to get in the US? Depends on the House and Congressional elections of 2010. if Owebumble gets a free ride to 2012, the US will be finished as a world power, bowing to China. That probably suits Owe just fine, bowing to his Communist masters!
Oh well, they can't say Kate didn't warn them about the crap sandwich with broken glass .
Unless Canada is prepared to give the Chicago Administration a simple demonstration of what energy dependence really means, you will have to accept that he's your President too. In fact, based on his CHANGING popularity here in the US, we HOPE you will take him. Bush and Cheney understood these things.
Now John, why the hell would we take him?
We have a leader here in Canada who is getting on with the job just fine.
I agree on one thing though. How about a little 5 day brown out just to show the Americans we mean business?
Harper needs to tell Obongo that if he doesn't allow Canadian companies to compete in the "buy American" program, that he will start locking out some of the specific U.S. companies mentioned in this story. Declare their (non-citizen) staff persona non grata, and punt them back over the border, and commence seizing their assets.
Hey you voted for it..
Obama - Wanted to re-open NAFTA (This is stall coming and is not a dead issue, it is waiting for the Cap and Tax )
Obama - Fair Trade, Not Free Trade (means trade with an American advantage)
These were not hidden agenda issues he said it over and over. Was nobody listening? Many said repeatedly during the election that Obama was bad for US Canada Trade. Take a look back through the blogs, BNN casts and Op-Eds and everything that is happening was foretold, why is it that people are now surprised to see it?
Hype and cringe indeed. Patience is a virtue that is often rewarded.
Canadian moderation and our strong resource base will serve us nicely through the next few years
I hope
John, we had our Bam Bam moment in the 60s and 70s with our own socialist twit, Pierre Trudeau. It nearly bankrupted our nation by the late 80s, early 90s. I had thought the U.S. resistant to socialist false promises, and am saddened to see the decline of your great nation. I do, however, see great promise in the U.S. to turn the situation around.

Because socialists and their commie brethern believe in unicorns and rainbows. Sort of like their mental equicalents,4 yeay-old kids believe in the tooth fairy and Santa. Difference is,most kids grow out of this, but the mentally deranged lefturds are incapable of that.
He was tricked again!
The Phantom said "This is the moment when the masses of asses in Moronto, Dumbtreal and Vanpoofter all say in unison: "duh...Whazzat?"
Agreed, couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.
Another Failed Presidency
By Geoffrey P. Hunt
Barrack Obama is on track to have the most spectacularly failed presidency since Woodrow Wilson. In the modern era, we've seen several failed presidencies led by Jimmy Carter and LBJ. Failed presidents have one strong common trait they are repudiated, in the vernacular, spat out.
Of course, LBJ wisely took the exit ramp early, avoiding a shove into oncoming traffic by his own party. Richard Nixon indeed resigned in disgrace, yet his reputation as a statesman has been partially restored by his triumphant overture to China.
But Barack Obama is failing. Failing big. Failing fast. And failing everywhere: foreign policy, domestic initiatives and most importantly, in forging connections with the American people. The incomparable Dorothy Rabinowitz in the Wall Street Journal put her finger on it: He is failing because he has no understanding of the American people and may indeed loathe them. Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard says he is failing because he has lost control of his message and is overexposed. Clarice Feldman of American Thinker produced a dispositive commentary showing that Obama is failing because fundamentally he is neither smart nor articulate; his intellectual dishonesty is conspicuous by its audacity and lack of shame.
But, there is something more seriously wrong. How could a new president riding in on a wave of unprecedented promise and goodwill have forfeited his tenure and become a lame duck in six months? His poll ratings are in free fall. In generic balloting, the Republicans have now seized a five point advantage. This truly is unbelievable. What's going on?
No narrative. Obama doesn't have a narrative. No, not a narrative about himself. He has a self-narrative, much of it fabricated, cleverly disguised or written by someone else. But this self-narrative is isolated and doesn't connect with us. He doesn't have an American narrative that draws upon the rest of us. All successful presidents have a narrative about the American character that intersects with their own where they display a command of history and reveal an authenticity at the core of their personality that resonates in a positive endearing way with the majority of Americans. We admire those presidents whose narratives not only touch our own, but who seem stronger, wiser and smarter than we are. Presidents we admire are aspirational peers, even those whose politics don't align exactly with our own: Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Harry Truman, Ike, Reagan.
But not this president. It's not so much that he's a phony, knows nothing about economics, is historically illiterate and woefully small minded for the size of the task - all contributory of course. It's that he's not one of us. And whatever he is, his profile is fuzzy and devoid of content, like a cardboard cutout made from delaminated corrugated paper. Moreover, he doesn't command our respect and is unable to appeal to our own common sense.
His notions of right and wrong are repugnant and how things work just don't add up. They are not existential. His descriptions of the world we live in don't make sense and don't correspond with our experience.
In the meantime, while we've been struggling to take a measurement of this man, he's dissed just about every one of us - financiers, energy producers, banks, insurance executives, police officers, doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, post office workers and anybody else who has a non-green job. Expect Obama to lament at his last press conference in 2012: "For those of you I offended, I apologize. For those of you who were not offended, you just didn't give me enough time; if only I'd had a second term, I could have offended you too."
Mercifully, the Founders at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 devised a useful remedy for such a desperate state - staggered terms for both houses of the legislature and the executive. An equally abominable Congress can get voted out next year. With a new Congress, there's always hope of legislative gridlock until we vote for president again two short years after that.
Yes, small presidents do fail, Barack Obama among them. The coyotes howl but the wagon train keeps rolling along. Hopefully, we will all have the will to make sure this will be a one-term presidency as I don't think we can survive two terms.
I think it's pretty safe to say that a majority of canadians think that Jimmy carter was a good president and that Reagan was a bad one. Frankly we are by and large smug, ignorant morons when it comes to our opinions on American politics. IOW we are democrats.
Good post Tranio.
I'm from the US and apologize for what Obama has done to you. I just hang my head in shame. What a slap in the face to our our Canadian brothers and sister too (Kate).
SDA poster ET had Obama pegged a narcissist early on his rise to centre stage and now Tranio succinctly fleshes out Obama in explicit terms we are never going to see in any MSM.
The especially the Canadian MSM which slobbered over Obama a year ago.
The problem is that the same Canadians who are on their [virtual] knees in front of Obama conversely despise businesses and executives who work in them. So any damage Obama effects on Canadian businesses actually makes these folks very happy.
Gord, you don't know how insightful you are. Just a few months ago a female friend of mine said exactly that about Carter/Reagan. When I asked her for some examples to support her statement she responded with, "I don't want to hear any of your conservative crap!"
The Leftist MSM propaganda keeps paying dividends over & over & over again!!
Another Harvard failure?
Nobody asked me if I would vote for him.
No.
No.
No.
Was I unclear? Do I want this vapid, self-important appeaser ruining Canada's economy?
Again, no.
Liberal Canadians really are dumb, they only win elections by appealing to xenophobia and running against the Americans, now that they are hopelessly in love with the American President, they got nuthin'
People are sheep. They buy anything the snake oil salesman has to offer.
Here in Halifax, I keep seeing OBAMA/BIDEN '08 bumper stickers plastered on cars. ALL the time. I've considered printing out sheets along the lines of: Wrong Year, Wrong Country, Cr*p President to stick under their windshield-wipers; but that does seem a tad too obsessive and mental. Really, though.
Just sharing.
Orlin Bowman
No need to apologize.
As this thread suggests, the ratio of Canadians, willing to kiss Obama's ass, was even higher than in the U-S.
A year ago, two of my sons, who are conservative, said they favored Obama.
I told them "just wait! The guy is a foul ball."
He sickens me. 13 soldiers get killed and another 50 or so are ambushed by a jihadist traitor and Obama's first comments (after shout outs to his political pals for three minutes) was to tell the U-S not to jump to any conclusions about radical Islam.
Pardon my language but he's an asshole.
That's a great catch, tranio, from American Thinker. If it didn't have Geoffrey Hunt's name attached to the piece, it could easily have been SDA's own ET. They both nail it. And I bashed my head down on my desk when I heard the "This was the moment that the rise of the oceans ..." speech -- head still hurts.
I think one thing that must be kept in perspective is the fact that probably 99% of the American public has absolutely no idea of what buy American really means. They immediately think it refers to China, India, Taiwan and other outsourcing Countries that bleed away American jobs. They have no understanding of the fact that it also sideswipes their largest and most trusted trading partner. None. Zero. Obama included.
Earlier posts by CHITTICK and KURSK are exactly what I think is the only thing that would get their attention. Unfortunately if something like that ever took place that bunch of incestuous political socialist idiots in Washington would take it as a sign to build more wind mills.
My feeling is that the only thing that will wake up the American public is an economy in the toilet and even greater unemployment.
This reminds so many of the dearly departed personality cult figure Trudeau. In mostly Eastern Canada. Which according to the Star & its affiliated ends at Manitoba.
Another phony Messiah that destroyed a Nation.
By American is going to lead the US into penury. Most of our Markets in the Western Canada are steadily going after the more stable Asian market.
Obama is hell bent on annihilating the present America into a just another banana Republic.
Time to find new partners more stable. Canada & the US have experience unparalleled growth & wealth in all Of World History. The secret was FREE markets not closed.
JMO
Not that I disagree with any of the criticism of Bambam above, but I do feel honour bound to point out that NAFTA is a federal treaty, the various states and municipalities are not bound by all of it, and those are the entities that are favouring American products over Canadian ones. And, in fact, these exceptions are a part of NAFTA. From the Canadian government's guide for municipalities to NAFTA:
http://www.international.gc.ca/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux/ressources/fcm/part1.aspx?lang=en
Taken together, these reservations and exceptions effectively remove a wide range of government
measures, including at the municipal level, from the coverage of key NAFTA Chapter 11 obligations.
I still don't like the guy, though.
Mr. Bowman...no need to apologize. Really, the only Canadians that are being affected by this buy American policy...as stated above...are the very people that did (and very likely still do) support TheBigZero. Us rednecks out west are still managing to scratch out a living waiting for the next boom. Hopefully the USA is not too damaged to be able to enjoy it with us.
"Buy American" is really "Buy Union Voters" and has little real effect on Canadian exports because the real gusher of stimulus money starts next year to get Dem politicians reelected. It is a touchstone of Congressional busywork with the firm "hope and change" that most of those involved on the receiving end will be generous in recycling some the taxpayers' money back to support their friends in office.
One little sour note is that one of the best municipal water treatment systems sold by a huge American company is effectively shut out of any stimulus project because key parts are made in Canada and Europe for proprietary reasons. Water shortage prone areas in the US need such systems yesterday. Exemptions are supposed to be available under such conditions but guess what? Not so far.

Right, all those Canadian steelworkers whose pipes were ripped out of the ground (and are banned from any future projects) are probably weeping into their lattes at Yonge and St. Clair, wondering how they ever thought Bambam was good for Canada.
My impression is that the ratio of OBOZO support in Canadian is as valid as that mythical Canadian support of gun control.....an artifact like the AGW consensus and Mann's hockey stick....IOW BS!!
Nobody asked me about any of these matters and I don't anyone who was consulted.
Yeah we have a critical mass of fools eg NDP/LPC that are Canada's version of ACORN/NDC but both appear to be minorities.
As Canadians it is difficult to grasp how close the US is to a tipping point.....Canadians are more docile and not as volitile as Americans....we just can't identify with it.

Definition
By Mayo Clinic staff
Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. They believe that they're superior to others and have little regard for other people's feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.
Narcissistic personality disorder is one of several types of personality disorders. Personality disorders are conditions in which people have traits that cause them to feel and behave in socially distressing ways, limiting their ability to function in relationships and in other areas of their life, such as work or school. In particular, narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by dramatic, emotional behavior, in the same category as histrionic, antisocial and borderline personality disorders. Narcissistic personality disorder treatment is centered around psychotherapy.
hmph.
if da shoe fits . . . .
why would a kenyan want "to buy american"
me thinks that once OwebamaRahm has finished making American kneel (by 2012) he will move on to greater things, like secretary of the UN, once installed he would not want to have to compete with a powerful (military and economy) and vibrant US of A
he will move on to greater things, like secretary of the UN
~GYM
I would love to see Obama do for the UN what he's doing for America.
It would warm the cockles of my heart.
Yup.
I remember not long ago how many Canadians were in rapture over the fact that the Canadian dollar had strengthened in relation to the US greenback. I attempted to tell them that the upward surge was caused by American moneymen, not by anything we had done right or wrong. I recall for a short time in the '80's when the Canadian dollar actually went higher than the greenback; again, there but by the grace of the US Treasury.
Interesting article from American Thinker depicting Obama as a "Nowhere Man." Adds additional perspective to the deficiencies in Obama's psyche.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/11/when_our_military_is_attacked.html
gypsy, some interesting questions from psychotherapist Robin's column on Obama.
"So where are all of his school chums, best friends, and old flames? The groups he hung with? His teachers, neighbors?
Where are the anecdotes of what Obama was like, his interests and predilections? Was he friendly, funny, insightful? Did he win any prizes or trophies? Pen any papers?
Obama was president of the Harvard Law Review. Yet from his former colleagues we find no accounts of putting out the journal together under his leadership.
He was a lecturer on constitutional law. Why hasn't a single student come forth and offered evidence like a good attorney?
Why the silence? Could it be that Obama left no dent, not even a single footprint? Is there nothing there?
When I envision the youth of other public figures, my impressions are vivid:
Little Bill Clinton: people-pleaser, Mama's boy, showoff.
Young Hillary: brainiac, smartest girl in school, bossy.
W: wisecracker, class clown, smart-aleck.
McCain: impetuous, volatile, ornery.
Sarah: sweet, popular, every teacher's favorite, Miss Congeniality.
Young Barry: _________________. Blank.
Only this: stranger in a strange land."
A while ago I was talking about Obama with a teacher friend of mine and asking some of these same questions. Her response was why am I, I so full of hate and attacking anyone trying to do a good job like Obama. Of course she never answered the question.
ET, in Robin's analysis she suggests Obama is a Malignant Narcissist so you were quite accurate in your diagnosis.
Obama will be remembered as the very worst president in US history. Worse than Jimmy Carter.
Americans will overwhelmingly reject Obama's communist agenda because God believes in individual rights and freedoms.
Because God is a conservative and God wants all Americans to live the American dream ... which is not possible under the current administration.
Dave
there is nothing there. this guy is the Chauncey Gardner of politics.
no record. no values.no work. no policy.no ethics. no legacy.
Thomas Jefferson , inventor, lawyer, politician, farmer , architect ....
Barrack Obama ..... community organizer.
hasnt run an icecream stand with two flavours because he it was above his pay grade.
the mind boogles at the MSM supporting such an empty suit.
