What's ironic about it is that the house socialist, Andrea Calver, spouting her usual moral equivalency, seemed to be using Marc Lepine as an example of mass murder carried out by non-Muslim extremists. She seemed completely oblivious to the fact that Lepine's birth name was Gamil Gharbi and his father was an Algerian Muslim wife-beater (as per several columns by Mark Steyn).

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

On another thread, the topic was women bloggers with balls, which led to some speculation about the female of the species and her fierceness when riled having to do, IMO, with women's true grit and no-nonsense approach to life as it pertains to motherhood.

True grit USED to be the default position for Canadian women when most of us were mothers fiercely guarding our children and family members. During the Trudeaupian Dispensation, the push was on to get moms out of their homes (fiefdoms they staunchly defended against the pack) for two reasons: 1) to collect taxes from women who up to then had no money with which to build up the government coffers and 2) to disarm a potent force intent on rugged individualism and individual rights, not collectivist rights which, we know, the leftards needed us to "buy" in order to forward their socialist, herd-mentality agenda.

Now that we have forced women en masse into the work place, the government coffers have overflowed -- not to our advantage, as they've been used to forward social "programs," and women are just as likely as men, often moreso in the guise of radical feminism, to blindly buy into the status quo, to support the zeitgeist.

We lost a lot more than stay-at-home moms and civilized kids when we herded women into the workplace.

I speak from personal experience in the trenches. I stayed home with my kids in the '80s and was considered Enemy #1 by the feminists and the l/Liberal$ (who punished one-income families by taxing us to the max).

I saw, firsthand, how women making money in the workplace tended to be blind to, and blindsided by, the rapid-fire assaults on the sovereignty of the family by government-funded social programs (which, BTW, were never extended to one-income families with a parent home to care for the kid/s) and, thus, the well-being of their own children. Some of their acquiescence was simply due to their being overwhelmed by their dual responsibilities and not enough hours in the day, but the other reason they surrendered to the collectivist status quo was that acquiescence, aka political corrrectness, was required if they were going to continue to collect their salaries. Even if they didn't agree with the new goose-step "everyone" was doing, they kept their mouths shut.

I didn't. Although my politically incorrect opinions often resulted in my being unpopular with the l/Liberal$, the feminists, the Dippers and meant that my husband and I were excluded from the social lists of many of the elites in town, I never passed up an opportunity to express my increasingly skeptical opinions about the dangers of social engineering, the increasingly early sexualization of our children, etc. etc.

I had no salary to lose (we lived very frugally). I had no boss to please, no "power" to forfeit. What I did have, however, was the responsibility and obligation to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of my family, which meant standing on the watchtower and being extremely vigilant concerning what was coming up over the hill. I noticed any stranger in the neighbourhood, I monitored the latest lies from NAC/SOW which were seeping into our schools, I kept on top of the sex "ed" in my kids' classrooms.

If you'll also notice, Terry, we don't have this discussion in Canada, as there are certain subjects you "can't" talk about in the Deranged Dominion north of the 49th parallel. This makes me all the more determined to start the discussion -- and cut to the quick!

Somewhere, in the murky past, a long term decision must have been made by the extreme left that they would "protect" and support certain ethnic, religious, and racial groups no matter what, in the belief that eventually this support would result in votes to install a permanent one party government under their direction.

It is interesting that there has been such a reaction to trying Islamist terrorists in New York, but no one seems to have mentioned an obvious political purpose. It seems clear to me that the extreme left's agenda was to discredit and get rid of Christianity and law-and-order British heritage. The left knew that a frontal attack wouldn't work -- there'd be pushback if it was too obvious -- so they decided to come in the back door: elevate every faith EXCEPT the foundational Judeo-Christian faith of Western Civilization and demonize believing Christians, especially if they're in the public square.

I totally agree with batb on the Christianity angle: the leftists have done everything in their power to discredit Christianity (aided and abetted, unfortunately, by many non leftists who seem quite happy to join the "discredit party" on this issue).

The very foundation of the rule of law, our freedoms, and civil behaviour—not to mention courage and steadfastness in the face of a clear and present danger—has been eroded from right under our feet (generally, with both our money and our eyes wide shut): believe me, the election of a dangerous impostor to POTUS is just the latest and most dramatic symptom of “post civilization syndrome”, something that all of us, who have eyes to see and ears to hear, notice every day—with alarm.
